too much 'pitch' - no sale

I didn't use them. They gave me a quote within a couple of days after the gentleman was here. Their quote was in the area of about $1000 for the tile and the labor was $3000 which was a little high. I thought that their tile prices were comparable to the other places in the area. Their labor was higher than who I eventually chose. It was pretty thorough. I eventually ended up going with a company whose labor was lower. They were pretty responsive and it was their responsiveness of getting an estimate. They came out within a couple of days. I don't know if they would come on time and be responsive to my questions since they didn't do the work for me. The gentleman who did the estimate came on time. When it comes to the professionalism, I got more information from the others as I went through the process. I wouldn't contact them again.

The installation was fine and overall it was a good job.

We had a very good experience. The sales people were knowledgeable and helpful. They weren't too pushy. The people who were sent for the installation worked efficiently and were considerate of our house. They were very good at doing what we wanted while still offering suggestions based on their experience.

Was surprised to see that they used a sub to install the tile. This bothered me at first, but it makes sense from their standpoint. They can throw a low install price at the sub and he basically can't refuse it if he ever expects to get any future work from them. Their estimator lowballs the install price and then tosses it over the wall to the sub who can't raise the price on you. Also the sub has incentive to do good job so that you don't report him. Was disappointed to see that they didn't take back the extra tile. Had about a 1/2 box of tile extra (which is the estimators doing, not mine) and it is tile that they carry in-stock, so I don't see why they can't take it back.

The salesperson was very helpful and well informed. I liked the store and thought the service was very good.

I was referred to Avalon by the GC who is renovating my kitchen. I was told that I would receive the same pricing that my contractor would get. I knew exactly what I wanted and had samples in hand that I had gotten from other tile companies. Avalon was able to match what I wanted exactly. I was quoted a price of $26.99/sf for the subway tile and $4.50/sf for the penny round. I asked if this was the GC pricing with discount, and was told yes. I told the store manager that the subway tile sample I had found myself was $21.99/sf. He said he would meet the price. I placed the order, satisfied that I had gotten a good deal. Later that day I came across a website for a competing tile chain and they had what appeared to be the same subway tile for $18.99/sf. I called Avalon back and told them to place the order on hold until I had checked out the other tile. The store manager told me that if I brought a sample in and documentation of the price that he would honor it instead of losing the sale. So I went to the competing tile store, had my job priced out, got samples of their product and went back to Avalon. Indeed, it was the very same product at much less than the price originally quoted. The penny round was also 25 cents less per sf and Avalon honored that price too. In the end, the difference in cost was $750 from what I was originally quoted and what I ended up paying. It was a pain in the butt to have to run all over the place and make three trips to get the final price but it was worth the savings. So the moral of the story is--don't accept the first price quoted. That $8/sf difference on the subway tile was an eye opener. It's a very nice store overall with a wide selection of tile, carpet, window treatments, etc. I appreciated that the store manager was willing to work with me, but I would have preferred getting the best price upfront.

I went to Avalon to pick out rugs for the house. I always wanted a wood floor for my kitchen, but could not have it because I have a dog and 2 cats. The salesperson showed me the latest ceramic tile that was among the many displays in their floor. It was ceramic tile that looks like wood. One can really not tell the difference. They sent the estimator and had the job done for me the following week. Any concerns that I had were quickly rectified by Jeanette, the installation manager. She was extremely responsive and has compassion for the home owner that is having a major job done. The products that Avalon carries reflect all the latest products of 2009. I found out later that my ceramic tile was the star of the 2009 trade show. I am also very happy with my rugs and the installation was also great.
