Excellent. No criticism whatsoever.
Description of Work: After installing a new laundry connection, I had asked Chuck Cohen to do take a look at a bathroom sink drain that had been dripping. He made some adjustments and the dripping stopped. A couple of weeks later, however, there again was some seepage in the same area. I asked Chuck to take another look at it, and he took time to come on the day before New Years and fixed the problem -- at no additional charge. Both his work and his attitude are highly professional and I will have no hesitation in calling him again if I ever need other plumbing work done. Truly a pleasure to deal with.

I called Chuck and told him the problem. He set an appointment for the following day and called the next morning during the time that he said. He showed up on time...analyzed the problem...gave me options on how he could proceed depending on what he discovered after taking the faucet apart...quoted the price...and then commenced to fix the problem. It took him about two hours given the fact that he had to go and buy specific parts. I thought that the price was relatively high, but I appreciated his promptness and service.
Description of Work: Chuck replaced internal parts on my shower faucets in my bathroom. The shower faucet was leaking continuously.

Chuck Cohen took the time to inspect all the previous work, and explain potential problems and available options. He also did not try to "up-sell" me by suggesting more extensive services than were actually necessary. (As some other other plumbers I interviewed definitely tried to do.) He was personable, professional and punctual and completed the job the same day. He and his assistant also cleaned up the work area completely and disposed of old materials. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Repair to stack pipe (replacing a shoddy access drain that had been installed by a vastly inferior "plumber" in the past). Also, dismantling and replacement of an old laundry sink, as well as testing and cleaning of drainage line.

Plumber Chuck Cohen came to the home in relatively short notice to evaluate my situation and discovered my original toilet was of unusual specifications. A discontinued harder to find 10in model as opposed to the now standard 12in. He was able to locate a 10in model and install it in a short amount of time, making a potentially frustrating situation easiar to deal with. I'm very happy with the service and have already made plans for furture work to be performed.
Description of Work: Plumber Chuck Cohen from Artisan, Surveyed, quoted, then installed a 3rd floor toilet.

We had a clogged drain and leaks around the seals of several of our toilets. We called Chuck and he responded right away. He scheduled to stop by during dinner time of the day I called, but he actually came by earlier between jobs just to see if it was something that he can do quickly, since we were in a situation where we couldn't use any of the toilets. But when he took a look at the problem, the job required heavier equipment then he had with him, so we scheduled for him to come back. However, after he left, I recalled that when I purchased the house, I had home warranty insurance for the house for the first year. So after I verified that the home warranty will cover the problem, I called Chuck back to apologize and to let him know. He was completely understanding. Since the work this time will (hopefully) be covered by the home warranty insurance and their contractor, I did not get to actually use Chuck this time. But, I really appreciated his quick response and his explanation when he was here and would happily use him in the future.

I got home from vacation and found a wet, water stain on my ceiling. I have had a leak there before and thought it was repaired (clearly not) but I thought it would be a quick job. When I called another plumber but he was not was not available to come out but offered to send a colleague and assured me he was a master plumber. Chuck arrived a few hours later. This "little" problem turned into a full two day job. A lot of my drain pipes needed to be replaced as well as the pan and drain under my water heater, and the floor in the laundry room (all on the 2nd floor of my house). Chuck explained everything that was going on, gave me options on what could be done as well as the pros & cons to each choice. He came originally on a Friday and it became clear that it would take at least two days to complete the work. I assumed he would not be back until Monday but he returned at noon on Saturday and stayed until 10:00 PM to complete the work. The water and air conditioner had to be turned off Friday afternoon but Chuck hooked them up temporarily so we would have hot water & could run the air overnight. Saturday, he cleaned up everything, including vacuuming the sawdust from having to replace the floor. When I mentioned I had notified my insurance company about the damage, he told me that I could give them his number if they had any questions about what he had done. On Monday, Rob called to make sure everything had gone well. I would recommend this company to anyone and will certainly call them again. (I have had a home warranty in the past and have not had to pay a plumber in a long time, the cost was $75/hour plus materials. I don't know what a typical rate is to really judge this).
Description of Work: Replaced drain pipes for my water heater, air conditioner (fixed the leak).

It was around 5:00 PM on a Saturday afternoon when I discovered the problem and I knew immediately I did not have the tools or know-how to do the job myself. With the current heat wave I could not allow the air to be out in the house of an elderly woman. Chuck was willing to come over for this emergent situation which is why I rate him so highly.
Description of Work: My Mom's air conditioner had backed up and there was water on the basement floor. Chuck opened up the back panel of the unit and saw that water was flooding the coil. He cut the drain pipe to clear the obstruction and installed a coupler so that in the future it would be possible to access and clear the trap,

I woke on a Sunday morning to discover that my kitchen sink had dropped out of the counter top. It was hanging by one bracket and a lot of putty. Not surprising, as I've come to realize there was some shoddy work done in this condo conversion, but that's another story. Anyway, I left a message with Artesian plumbing and received a call back from Chuck that evening. He came over the next day, which was a relief, because I was not looking forward to eating out every night until I could get a plumber over to the condo. Not surprisingly, it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be; Chuck had to drill new holes into the granite countertop while on his back and remove the old putty from the rim of the sink. But he got it done and I had a functioning kitchen sink that night. And I did not have to order Chinese takeout Monday night.
Description of Work: Drilled new holes in granite counter top and reinstalled sink and garbage deposal.

Description of Work: Chuck responded immediately after receiving a call from myself from Craigslist. He came to my house within an hour after the return call, and performed an excellent job, on top to that he seemed to be a very nice guy, whom I felt very comfortable with to leave in my home alone to do home improvements, as you know that's very important. Yes, I will and plan to use Chuck for future reference, and advise you to as well!

This was a terrible experience. My wife is over 30 weeks pregnant and Mr. Cohen was informed of our urgent need for timely delivery at the outset in August 2007. One of his two workers quit after four weeks. The worker called me and stated he wasn't being paid. We traveled for two weeks in October to come home just to find he hadn't been to the house or made any progress. He was paid by check for all work and for all additional work including a new water heater and soil waste stack. The plumbing rough-in was acceptable but he had no right taking on a full remodel. He complained constantly of being sick. He brought his daughter and dog to the job site more than once. He asked for the final payment even though no finish work was done. I have over 100 photos of the damage and poor quality. The two contractors that have quoted finishing the job were both at $20,000 or basically starting over again. A law suit is pending. Better Business Bureau has this claim as well.
Description of Work: Mr. Cohen was contracted for a complete bath and laundry room remodel to last six weeks. The job was not complete after 16 weeks. Stopped for unacceptable quality and timely delivery. The only completed work was demolition, rough-in of electrical, plumbing, framing, and the tiling of the laundry room. The new vent to outside was not attached and fell off. The bathroom floor wonderboard was so far out of level it had to be removed. The shower stall walls were not anchored and were so far out of level they had to be removed. The shower pan was not supported and squeaked. The tub deck was incomplete. The tub was not installed or operational. No fixtures were installed. The plumbing vent was not completed. 104 sq ft tile, 25 ft bullnose, 35 ft lisstello were improperly installed with gaps exceeding one half inch. I witnessed Mr. Cohen using a toothbrush end to judge gaps. Three windows were improperly installed and are not sealed or capped. The window trim was not installed.

Response from Artisan Plumbing Heating & Contracting
I first would like to start out by saying that I always have took great care in my work. I always do everything within my powers to keep my customers happy. I have been in this field for over 30yrs. In that time I have done a wide variety of work. When I was younger I worked my way up from an apprentice to a Master supervising as many as 40 men at one time and many projects. I have had my own company since 2003.I have done many bathroom remodels over the years and My customers were always happy. This particular job started out like most jobs. Her husband was the person we dealt with the entire job. His wife was pregnant and we had planned to remodel the bathroom and be done prior to the baby being born. From the start we would talk regular about the project . As the work progressed there were many changes to the original job. We also ran into quite a few problems that we had no idea were there. When we had opened up the walls and the floors we uncovered alot of problems. There were joist that were cracked clean through as well as others that were in very bad shape. We also found the plumbing stack had to be replaced from the crawl space in the basement to the 3rd floor just under the floor and in the ceiling of the 2ndfloor. As well as this there were many changes that were made by the owner as well as additional work that he requested we do . Some of this work were all electric lines running from the breaker box through a crawlspace and up to the 2nd floor.Phone line running from the attic to downstairs .The work through the attic and crawl space areas was very difficult and very time consuming .We also had water lines to run from the crawl space to the upstairs. The scope of the work now was a bathroom remodel and enlargement into a bedroom including making the bedroom into a bathroom and a walk in closet . A laundry area from scratch with a ceramic tile floor. The bathroom which was now a very large bathroom was a four piece bathroom consisting of a shower stall ,toilet,, drop in whirlpool tub ,a custom deck for the tub ,and a vanity. There was a large walk in closet built from scratch All new sheetrock ceiling with new high hat lights throughout the ceiling with all new wiring to panel, new breakers in panel . I already described some of the plumbing and electrical work. New windows . There was wonder board and ceramic tile to be installed on all of the walls , floors, deck for tub and shower stall as well as laundry area, There was plaster work in the hallway , and back staircase . We had alot of work in dining room area, which is were all of the wires passed through, . There was a new water heater and some copper work to do in basement. This was not every thing but should give you some idea of the size of this job after all of the changes. I was doing my best to work with him on all of these issues. During the course of this work he was having some personel issues that were affecting him greatly. His wife was becoming more and more difficult and riding him very hard. I am not a Doctor but I have seen my Ex go through similar behavior when she was pregnant. She was not able to cope with this job going on while she was pregnant. I was doing everything in my power includeing each night we would spend an hour moping and waxing all of the floors. Are work area was in the back part of the house . There was some very serious issues that were happening with him and he was not around as often. We worked out some of the extra,s in the early parts of the job. There were alot of extra,s that we never got to work out from a financial standpoint . We continued on the job anyway still trying to have this job done before the baby was born. There was no way that with all of the changes and all of the extra work we could have finished this job in the original time frame of even in time for the baby to be born. We were working 11 to 12 hour days every day with the exception of when I had an abcess and had to see a dentist. He had come to us just before the baby was going to be born and told me he had to stop the job until after the baby was born and he would let me know when we could resume after the baby was born. At this point we were about a week to 7 days away from finishing . We still had not sat down to resolve some of the extraʼs and there was still a final payment to be made on the original job. The job would have wound up being fifty thousand dollars had we worked out all of the additional work which was not part of the original contract. The entire job till she started riding him we got along fine and on more than one occasion he had praised the work we were doing. He was more concerned with keeping her happy than what was the right way to handle things. I do understand his position but I do not agree with the way things were handled. She had not been following any part of the job and was only concerned with having her house back. When we started this job he told me that he had never had a job like this done before . I know that if she would not have been pregnant and he had not been under so much pressure that things would have finished and she would have been very happy with the finished job. But things did not turn out this way. In the end he had twisted things so far from the truth that I lost respect for him as a person . In the beginning and throughout most of the job I had liked him. I feel very bad for him but that does not excuse what he has said and done. He went so far as to have his lawyer call me. When I was done explaining this situation to his lawyer he seemed to understand and was aware that they were in breech of our contract and that was the last I heard from him. This project cost me a great deal of loss. The things that he complains about in his complaint are things that were just not yet completed. It is easy for an other contractor to come behind and tell the homeowner that things are not right and must be changed after all they will charge more money that way. But this job was a job that would have finished just fine Dont get me wrong, this was a very difficult job and I should have been paid alot more money than I was. . But it did not need to go this way that was her choice. He should have been honest with me . He should not have lied. I took a major loss on this project and he has gone out of his way to cause trouble for my company . The only person who was done an injustice here was me . Because of the heavy loss I took on this job I have decided that I am no longer going to take most remodeling projects. It is just not worth it . There are a lot of customers who have no idea how much work goes in to a project like this. There are many more things that I could talk about but this has taken a great deal of my time and energy already . This will give you a little understanding as to what really happened on this project. I give you my word that I did everything humanly possible to try to keep them happy. All of the work I did that was finished was done properly . If you have any question please dont hesitate to ask. Chuck Cohen-Owner

Chuck and his assistant Eric are two of the hardest working guys I've dealt with. They came to my house on short notice and fixed numerous plumbing issues resulting from a previous "hacker" contractor. Chuck takes time to make it perfect and has high standards when it comes to plumbing done right. While the other member may have had issues with making side deals with an employee, I found Chuck and his helper friendly, pointedly honest and willing to work late in to the night to get things done.

THE JOB WENT OVER SCHEDULE BECAUSE THEY KEPT FINDING 'PROBLEMS'', INCLUDING JOISTS, WHICH A STRUCTURAL ENGINEER DEEMED PERFECTLY FINE (WE LATER HIRED HIM FROM ANGIE'S LIST). EVEN THOUGH WE INSISTED THEY STAY WITHIN BUDGET OF ORIGINAL CONTRACT AND STOP INCREASING THE SCOPE OF THE JOB, ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES ''OFFERED'' TO WORK SATURDAY AND SUNDAY TO ''CATCH UP'' AND DO AT LEAST SOME OF THE EXTRAS THEY WERE SUGGESTING, SAYING THE OWNER'S QUOTE FOR THE ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDED WORK MAY HAVE BEEN EXCESSIVE. BASICALLY PLAYING GOOD COP, BAD COP. EMPLOYEE SAID HE WOULD NOT BILL THE OWNER FOR THOSE WEEKEND HOURS. OF COURSE, THE OWNER DID. THE END JOB WAS OVER BUDGET AND UNDER-DONE (THEY NEVER TILED OR HOOKED UP THE DISHWASHER). QUALITY, THE MAIN WASTE PLUMBING ITSELF WAS EXEMPLARY. THE PLYWOOD SUBFLOOR WAS NOT, THE SCREWS COMPLETELY MISSED THE JOISTS TO WHICH THE PLYWOOD WAS TO BE SCREWED. JUST HAVE THEM STICK TO PLUMBING & NOT DABBLE IN CARPENTRY OR MEDDLE IN ''STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS.

Hi My name is Chuck Cohen As the customer stated we replaced the soil stack When we were working up in the ceiling I noticed that the flooring under the tub had dropped arproximatky three inches.I explained to the owner what needed to be done and how much it coct. The owner decided to trade up some of the work we were going to do upstairs of the tile and downstairs on the dishwaser agreeing that the owner would set the fixtures, tile and dishwasher and we would redeck the damaged floor. After I left the job the owner approached my worker mike to see if he would the the work on the side that the owner had told me he was going to do. I only found out about this through the helper who was helping mike. Mike and the owner went behind my back and set up a seperate deal for the tile the joist work and the dishwaser hook up. Mikes helper told me this after the job was over . I fired my worker Mike for agreeing to do work on the side behind my back. It turned out that what ever deal the owner worked out with mike was never completed. They had wrote a report giving me a bad rating based on the work Mike was suppose to do behind my back. He also told me the so called engineer he got was his freind. When the owner had declined to do the structual work I had reccomended he get a certified engineer to look at the joistl He also wrote that are plumbing work was very good. He gave me the rest of the reveiw based on my opinion and price which he never hired me to do. The next point I will make is that it was the owner who approched Mike and Mike than did the wrong thing by takeing the work behind my back. I think that that is a very slimeball thing for the owner to do and for my worker Mike to do . Thank God that the helper was there when all of this occured other wise a may not have found out at all what happened. Mike had been with me for a llong time he was a in his 40s with a family I never suspected he would do something like this. After I had fired him I was told he had a personell problems witch caused him to use bad judgement. I usually do not fire some one without a sitdown and another chance but if a person steals of lies I fire them immeaditly. Basicallly the owner just did not want to pend the money to do the job properly. I did everthing I was contracted to do and did it in a timely manner and did a very good job which the owner admits in his complalint. I do not feel as though I should be rated on the work that he hired Mike to so behind my back. Keep in mind when the floor was redecked in the bad area the floor was still out three inches. The only way to get the floor nice is to fix the joist . 'we worked with in lthe owners wishes. Thank you for your time Please consider what I ask about the rating givin on work Mike did on his own Chiuck
