It was a a total pleasure to work with Rich. It is a pleasure to entrust a valuable antique to someone with so much enthusiasm for antique clocks. He kept the clock until he was sure that it ran absolutely perfect, brought to the house and installed it in the oiginal case. It stopped a couple times, and he came back out and took it back to the shop when he could not find the reason for this. The case was probably not level but It was still part of his guarantee. It is now running and chiming exactly as it should.
Description of Work: The movement of our 1815 grandfather clock was a little worn, and Rich retooled part of the movement and remade it exactly as it was nearly 200 years ago. The dial of the clock also needed some refinishing.

My antique French clock hadn't been serviced for 15 years and had stopped working. I brought it to Rich who I can't recommend highly enough. He explained to me that the gears wear out periodically, losing their round shape, and have to be repaired or replaced. He showed me how to put the pendulum back on and how to adjust the pendulum screw to make the clock go faster or slower. Rich studied clockmaking in England for 2 years, after a career as an engineer, putting him in a class by himself in Philadelphia. Be sure to ask him about the beautiful clocks you see at his place, and you'll get a real history lesson! I thought the price was commensurate with the skill he brings to the job.
Description of Work: Repaired or replaced worn parts in my nearly 200 year old mantle clock. Lacquered the silver face so I no longer have to polish it. Checked timekeeping for one month.

They are excellent. This is an extraordinary find, because we have an antique clock that two other repairers over the twenty-five years that we have owned it have been so bad with it. This person though is highly trained. He is just setting up here and it is second career for him. What is important is that he was able to teach us how to keep it going. He was able to give us information that the other two never could.
Description of Work: Richard McCarty repaired my antique clock for me.
