The room previously had wallpaper, but I had already had it removed professionally. Allen said that the walls still had glue on them and that it would cost $970 to prep and paint the room. He is the only person that said this, and he was also the highest bid I received. For these reasons I will not be using his service.
Description of Work: I had Allen out for an estimate to paint a back bedroom.

THE MEMBER'S BEDROOM HAD WALLPAPER REMOVED BUT GLUE WAS STILL EVERY WHERE ALONG WITH MANY GOUGES FROM SCRAPING IT OFF. I ALWAYS FIGURE ON DOING A 1ST CLASS, QUALITY JOB WHICH IN THIS CASE NECESSITATED STAIN-SEALING THE GLUE & DOUBLE SPACKELING THE WALLS & CEILING. I DON'T WIN MANY BIDS IN HER PART OF PHILA AS THERE ARE MANY HANDYMAN TYPES THERE THAT WILL SAY ANYTHING FOR A DAYS WAGES. BUT IN MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION SHE NEEDED THAT KIND OF PREP. TO BE ASSURED A QUALITY JOB. I COULD HAVE DONE IT FOR 1/2 THE PRICE WITHOUT PREPPING & TAKEN A CHANCE SHE WOULD BE SATISFIED BUT I NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO SUGGEST THAT BECAUSE SHE HUNG UP ON ME AS SOON AS I TOLD HER THE PRICE. I DO NOT ASK FOR OR REQUIRE A "DEPOSIT" IN ORDER TO START A PROJECT, THEREFORE I MUST FIGURE ENOUGH TIME PREPARING THE SURFACE IN ORDER TO ASSURE A SATISFIED CLIENT SO I CAN GET PAID. I SINCERELY HOPE THE MEMBER IS HAPPY WITH THE PAINTER SHE HIRED BUT AM SURPRISED & HURT THAT SHE WOULD TAKE THE TIME & TROUBLE TO GIVE ME A BAD RATING JUST BECAUSE MY PRICE HAPPENED TO BE THE HIGHEST. I CAN GIVE HER THE NAMES OF MANY PAINTING CONTRACTORS THAT ARE TWICE MY PRICES. I CAN ALSO FURNISH ENOUGH HANDWRITTEN REFERENCES (UNFORTUNATELY, MOST DO NOT PAY TO BELONG TO ANGIE'S LIST SO I CAN NOT POST THEM HERE) THAT YOU COULD PAPER YOUR WHOLE BEDROOM WITH AND I WOULD BE HAPPY TO FORWARD THEM BY FAX, MAIL OR EMAIL TO ANY INTERESTED PARTIES.
