He drove from Center City to Bensalem to get the needed replacement motor and during that time cleaned the fan unit. The AC and Heat is now running extremely well. Not only did Alex do a great job during each visit, but he also explained what he was doing so that I could become more knowledgeable about my furnace. He also noticed that the unit was missing a key component that blocks air from entering the unit. Description of Work: I first used Aktion in 2015 to replace my air conditioner. They gave me a range of options, with no pressure to buy a more expensive unit. The work was done in a professional manner, in a reasonable time, and at a good price. This week (01/12/18) my heating system would not stop running. I called in the morning, they arrived in the afternoon, and fixed the problem right away (blown fuse inside the unit).

 + -1 moreAlex and his crew got to work and the job on my house was done within a week--just in time for summer. My house feels like an icebox. I love it. No demolition was required. I have central air on the first 2 floors of the house, which is controlled by a thermostat, and on the 3rd floor (my bedroom and office) I have 2 mini splits that work beautifully and efficiently. Additionally, the products that Alex used for the install come with a 10 year warranty. For the last 2 years I've been soliciting HVAC quotes for my home and studio. It was the same every time--either the price was way too high, or the price was reasonable but the company was too busy to make any time for my project. I thought I would be soliciting quotes for the rest of my earthly existence. Then one day I came across Aktion Air on angie's list, and within 2 weeks I had HVAC in my home AND my recording studio, all at a fair price, with service from a group of incredibly efficient and kind professionals who were truly proud of the work they were doing for me. Aktion Air rocks.
Description of Work: I had a pretty big job for Aktion Air. I needed a ductless mini split HVAC system installed at my 800 sq ft recording studio in Fishtown, and I needed central air installed in my 3 story row home around the corner. Alex was very responsive and was able to start the first project within days of our initial contact. The studio install was quick and painless. In 3 days he had the system up and running. Alex always worked around my availability for getting in and out of the studio to work on the system, and his crew showed the utmost respect for our workspace. A few days after the install I had a question about our system, and Alex was able to immediately provide an answer for me via text. Next came the daunting task of figuring out how to get air conditioning in my 3 story row home that was built in 1918. I already had central heat, but the system of duct work in the house was incredibly convoluted and poorly designed so the heat pump was always overheating and shutting off, leaving the house cold in the winter. If the duct work wasn't even getting the house warm in the winter, there was no chance it would be able to circulate cool air from an air conditioner in the summer. Additionally, I didn't want to tear out walls and floors in order to replace 3 stories of preexisting ductwork. Ductless mini splits were an option, but in a 3 story house with 3 rooms and a bathroom, the cost of installing enough mini splits to cool the place would have come out to almost $20,000. Way too much! Determined to come up with a creative solution, Alex went home for a night of brainstorming. As soon as he finished the studio install around the corner, he hit me with his master plan: install an air conditioner in the basement, replace the 1st floor ductwork to accommodate airflow (which could be accessed in the basement ceiling without tearing up the floor), block off the existing 3rd floor ductwork to maximize airflow in the first 2 floors, and install 2 mini splits on the 3rd floor to keep that area cool. This plan would allow for air conditioning in the summer AND improve the flow of heat through the house in the winter, all without tearing up floors or walls. Additionally, the plan would cost significantly less than installing 5 mini splits throughout the house. Another cool thing--with my old central heat, the supply and return vents on the first floor were idiotically placed directly in the center of the walkway between the living room and the kitchen. God knows why. Alex noticed how silly this was during the install and offered to reroute the supply and return ductwork so that the vents on the first floor would be closer to the walls and corners, and when I redo my floors in the future I can simply cover up the holes where the old vents were. Additionally, moving the vents farther away would help the temperature sensor the the AC read the temperature more accurately.

Alex's first visit was at 8pm at night to work around our schedule, and he and his team worked very quickly and diligently on a complex job that had some big complications (including spiral stairs!). They did not want to leave until we had heat. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Our antiquated combo heater/AC unit in our rowhouse was kaput. Alex came to take a look, and offered up several options to replace it. We chose to go with a modern heater with separate AC unit, which was more complicated to install but also more energy efficient. Alex and his team removed the old unit, including some demolition to get it out, and installed a new heater, AC unit, even a new thermostat.

Alex realized that the filter I had been using was the wrong size, allowing dirt, pet fur, etc., to flow around the filter and collect on the coils, preventing air flow. He is not the only HVAC guy who has ever looked at my system, but he was the only one who noticed this. After replacing necessary parts and cleaning the coils the air flow is perfect! Will definitely hire again and recommend.

He arrived right on time and was able to expertly diagnose the issue. He also identified a potential hazard from when the unit was originally installed. He removed the broken part, took it with him to exchange for a new one and returned the next day with the new fan and fixed the unit. I would highly recommend him for his dependability and expertise.

 + -1 moreVery well. The house is a narrow lot rowhome with tight spaces within utility runs and existing walls. Previous alterations and remodels had created several problems, compromising the original central air system and cutting off air flow to 2 bedrooms and the kitchen. Alex did a great job in finding best solutions to restore air flow in a manner that still let us open up the ground floor while also leaving room for plumbing lines to a future bathroom. Not an easy feat in our very narrow home. He sent pictures throughout installation process as I could not be on-site during the work which helped us refine solutions when questions came up. I highly recommend both his diligence and his willingness and ability to communicate.

 + -1 moreAlex arrived promptly and was very professional. Above all, he was honest. Did not try to sell me anything. Told me that my unit was recently serviced and cleaned and did not need that. Told me my dryer vent was clogged up which I didn't even bother to check. I value honesty above all and would hire him again. A couple days later...no more pooling of water. We'll see how it goes but so far so good..knock on wood.
Description of Work: I came downstairs to check on some maintenance stuff and noticed pooling of water next to HVAC unit and upon further inspection found that HVAC filter was also wet. Googled up the diagnosis and many suggested that it was clogged draining pipes or drain pan. Looked up angie's list and found Alex to have really good reviews so I trusted my instinct with this.

One of my complaints was the loudness of the fan on my system. He agreed that it was very loud. We talked about options and he recommended to replace the fan with a much more quieter one. The fan was a little pricey but in the end was well worth it. I'm amazed at how quiet the system runs now. Very happy with the service he provided and will definitely use him again.

 + -1 moreWe had called several Heating service companies to look at our unit, Most of them said that the fan had died and the entire unit needed to be replaced at a cost of $3100 or more. They did not bother to really look but just glanced inside the unit.. One even argued that we should replace our central air conditioning unit along with it at a total cost of $7000 or more, Alex from Aktion Air came by and flipped a switch and the fan came on. Someone had inadvertently turned off the electrical power to the unit. He peered inside and noted that the unit was old and we should probably replace it. Some of the gas burners were covered with rust and dust and therefore were not functioning properly, But the actual root cause of the fan not functioning was due to a switch not being flipped. Alex was honest enough to tell us the truth and not swindle us. He saved us a great deal of money and if we are to replace the unit in the future we will probably use his services.
Description of Work: The owner of the company showed up and fixed our heating unit so that it functioned properly. The fan was not working so no hot air was coming out of the vents. He vacuumed the unit and inspected it so that it functioned properly.
