AJ Appliance Inc

Called on a Friday. AJ was not available until Monday, but could not quote me a window until the day of. I explained I needed the work done in the morning. They said to call that day and make the request for a morning time slot. I was told the service call would be $85, and that would be applied to the cost of the repair. There would be no second service call charge if they did not have needed parts and had to schedule a second trip. I did my research on Angie's List and was impressed by the reviews and the prices for this company. It seemed like a few people had my problem and had gotten it repaired for $85-$100. Also, GE charged $99.99 for a service call plus parts and labor, so AJ seemed like a better deal. I called Monday morn at 8:15 am to ask what time to expect a technician. I was told the schedules still were not done. They called me back at 9:30 and said someone would arrive between 10 and 1. I hoped for the best, and the technician did arrive a bit after 11. He was polite and worked quickly. He seemed knowledgeable. He did not give me an estimate before he went ahead and did the work. He just handed me a bill for $329.40. The $85 service call price I was quoted was now $125, the motherboard $180 plus, I later noticed, 8% tax (shouldn't tax have been 6% since the service was outside of Philadelphia?). He said the woman who answered the phones gave me an incorrect price for Lower Merion, and that she had misquoted another customer of his from earlier this morning. I asked him to call his supervisor and honor the quote, which he did (not sure what they did for their earlier customer). I also told him I expected an estimate for the motherboard, so I could evaluate whether the price was fair before moving forward with the work. He said he could take it out if I wanted. I told him to just leave it. I asked him to wait to put the fridge back until I could clean up the dust and spills behind the fridge, which I did while he did his paperwork. He then slid the fridge back for me. I noticed after he left that there are two big scratch marks on my ceramic tiles where the fridge slid out, and a hairline crack across the entire width of one tile. The fridge is wedged in tightly to a custom wood cabinet and a wall, so not sure how he could have gotten it out without scratching and cracking the tiles, but surely there must be a way? Now I have a fixed fridge but need to research tile repair... Overall, the technician seemed very capable and was pleasant but the scheduling, pricing, and damaged floor were disappointing.

It all worked smoothly and it was a pleasure fr a change to see competent professionals at work.

My call to AJ was handled professionaly. The technician was right on time and all services to both dryer and dishwasher were cdone quickly and correctly. High marks for service and professionalism. Will use AJ in the future and have recommended them to friends.

A representative came out and determined that the cost of the microwave repair was equal to or more than the cost of a new appliance. I went to their showroom, selected a new one and scheduled an installment date. The cost of the first trip was applied toward the cost of my purchase. The installers arrived on time, were very efficient, removed all trash, cleaned up my kitchen after the repair and were very polite. The only complaint I had is that AJ Appliance won't let their installers removed the cabinet trim around the microwave so I had to bring in a separate company just to remove a simple piece of wood trim. Other than that, they were perfect!

I called for a repair to my fridge. The freezer was still cold and the light was on, but the fridge was warm. I called AJ and they sent out Robert within 2 hours, He dismantled the fridge, found that the fan wasn't working, not broken, just not working, and then fixed and was gone in less than an hour. Very pleasant, professional and well groomed.

I am a renter's who's dryer went on the fritz. My landllord had them call me to schedule an appointment. I was given an 8am to 12 PM window, In my conversation with the person who made the appointment, I explained that I would "work from home" all day with the exception of a one-hour window due to an unavoidable meeting at work. It was clear and she said the window would be in the morning. After waiting all morning, I received a call at 12:15 that the tech would come in 1/2 hour, during theonly time I said I couldn;t be there. When I asked for them to accomodate 2 PM instead so I could hget back, the "tech refused". I now have to take off all of Monday because theu refuse to offer a time window for the rescheduled appointment. I was also told that no one noted my time restriction. While I understand no one can predict exactly when they can arrive, I have a job too. POOR customer service. I will spread the word. But since my landlord is paying, I guess I'll review service on Monday if they actually provide me a service window.

A&J Appliance was great. I had a dryer at an investment property that stopped spinning that I was unsure if it was worth fixing or now. I called and described the problem and they were able to assure me that it was most probably an inexpensive fix. We made the appointment, and they called when there to give me an estimated cost of repair and then proceeded to fix it. I was able to leave a credit card on file with them so I didn't need to be there for the repair. A&J has a very good reputation, and it is well deserved. I will definitely do business with them again for my other properties.

The tech arrived promptly and was courteous and professional during his stay. Within a very short periord of time, he assessed the problem and offered helpful advice. I would highly recommend and use this company again!

The were punctual and thorough. I would recommend them again. What I thought was unprofessional is that the lead serviceman entered my home while speaking to someone else on a cell phone was did not greet me verbally. He just motioned that he was coming in and wanted to go upstairs. I actually had to stop him, interrupt his conversation and introduce myself toget him to tell me his name. Also it seemed that the other gentleman with him was learning the trade and the lead man was kind of rude to him as they worked.

I've used AJ intermittently over the years for a lot of odds and ends. This time I needed my ancient subzero refridge removed and purchased a new one. They came to the house and measrued and gave me advice. They actually gave me a ride down to the showroom to pick a new fridge because I was on a tight time line...that is good service! They took out he old fridge and put in new on no problem, on time and friendly. When I had some trouble with the new fridge they were extremely reasonable and professional, and took care of it. I will definitely use them again. I would say their front office staff is a bit odd...EArlier in the year I left a message about my washer dryer and never got a call back, then got kind of a testy call asking why I wasn't responding...later for the fridge I got TWO calls about time of delivery..I responded to one to confirm, and got another call later from the other caller to see why I hadn't called to confirm...so that can be mildly frustrating, but their service work and especially Angelo in Sales and Joe in service were great.

They were accommodating and friendly.

We are very pleased with the service, quality and time that it took to order and install our replacement dishwasher.

My Kenmore model 110 washer developed intermittent episodes in which the washer would run through its cycle but fail to agitate for part or all of the cycle. I selected AJ Appliances for the repair call on the basis of reviews and nearness to my location. I called on 1/24/13 and they scheduled service within 2 days - I had specified it was not a crisis so that was OK. The service technician came in, checked the washer and determined that it was the timer. He ordered the replacement timer and the repair was done on 1/31/13. Repair took less than one hour and the total bill came in under $250. Overall the responsiveness of the company dispatcher and the service technician were excellent and they earned an enthusiastic A rating. As a side note, I had already determined that the timer was the most likely cause of the problem and had looked it up on the web. They priced the replacement timer in the middle of the range of prices at which I could have purchased it myself, so that was reasonable and I was very pleased to see that they were "doing the right thing" in terms of pricing the part. That impressed me more than anything else about this service call.

The washer had failed, so they took out the old one and put in a new one. It worked out great! They were really nice.

Overall, they were willing to work with me through the entire cycle. First, AJ Appliance came out to diagnose the problem to try to repair my existing washing machine. However, after trying to fix it was not working properly due to needing more expensive parts. Because the first fix did not work, AJ Appliance worked with me to reduce the cost of the washer I purchased and removed the old one.

From beginning to end from the phone call to service tech absolutely professional pleasant and honest. They were not able to fix the issue in the first visit because they needed to order a part.. Once the part arrived the excellent service continued. With a 90 day guarantee I feel even more confident in the work of AJ's!I would recommend them to anyone who needs any type of appliance repairs.

I woke up this morning to find my kitchen floor covered in water that was leaking out from behind the fridge, and called AJ to schedule emergency service. The woman on the phone was polite & professional, and the repair man was at my door on time, the same day. He fixed the problem quickly, and even cleaned up behind the fridge for me so I didn't have to. I was extremely pleased with the service, which was fast, & reasonably priced! I'll use them again the next time something breaks in my 100-year-old house.

Very well. The representative needed details over the phone to help know what they needed to bring. They actually were spot on with what they thought. The repair was done quickly. They also were great about answering questions we had prior to their starting the job.

They knew what I needed. They offered several selections based on newness and functionality ands price. They came to the house as planned, took apart the old washer, and hauled it out, and brought in the new washer and assembled it without problems.

My washing machine started smoking during the spin cycle. I'd tried to take it apart myself, but finally gave up and two of my neighbors recommended AJ Appliance, so I checked Angie's List and called them. They had an appointment in 3 days, which was perfect because I was off that day. I was told they would call that morning to give me a window of time in the afternoon, and sure enough at 9am I got a call saying they'd be out between 12-3pm (they service Center City in the morning, South Philly in the afternoons). Michael showed up on time, walked right in, and found the problem within 5 seconds while I was still explaining what had happened. There was a screw caught between the inner and outer tubs. He checked the belt, which had incurred some damage since the inner tub couldn't spin due to friction, and said it should be replaced and he had the part in his van. It was $20, and the service charge to come out was $70. He also answered several questions I had and reassembled everything I had taken apart, and was finished in less than an hour. All told with tax & labor, the cost was $113, and I was grateful I didn't need to replace my entire unit. I highly recommend AJ Appliance - I only took one star for price because while I felt the service was excellent, I also felt like I paid for it, which is fair, but not a deal. HOWEVER - it is completely worth it to me to pay a fair price for reliable service, without any sort of upselling or "extra" repairs.

Last month I purchased a stove from another company and it was a nightmare getting everything installed correctly, and I expected a similar experience with AJ's, but I didn't get anything like it! They made everything very simple and gave great recommendations on what machines would suit my needs.

They were prompt, professional and honest. The tech figured out my issue and fixed it for the least cost possible. They are always good to deal with and fair. They call to confirm and show up on time.
