Abello Bros

Terrible ending after all seemed well. Briefly- The good: They answer the phone when you call, the estimator was on time. The bad: Refused to provide an estimate, very rude, and poor communication on when we could/should expect the estimate. We called Abello on the recommendation of a neighbor who was very happy with their work and their pricing. The estimator (Steve) was on time and very friendly. But then we couldn't get the estimate. Steve told us it should take just a few days for the estimate, and we called after one week and got the run around- I need approval from the boss, then the boss needed to talk to Steve, etc. When I called to follow up 14 days after the estimator came out and we still had no estimate- and hadn't been told when to expect one- the owner very rudely said they don't want the work. He claimed the job was "too complicated" (the estimator didn't think so at all- he told us that most of it was routine and they could handle the job- gutters and downspouts are too complicated? And I specifically asked if they repaired slate roofs before having them come out to look at the job). The real issue appeared to be that we had "pressured" him for the estimate. I reminded him that he was a referral from a neighbor, that we had only called one roofing company- his- and weren't shopping around (although Kurtz came out and did an estimate for a prior potential buyer of the house), and that we were very disappointed that after taking an afternoon off to meet him at the house, we weren't going to receive an estimate, he just said he doesn't work under pressure. The reason we needed the numbers was to include them for the purposes of securing an already pre-approved rehab loan- and he then tried to say he doesn't work with loans. The money was in place and wasn't an issue- and he didn't know about it until we had called the second time to ask for the estimate and explained why we needed it sooner rather than later. If there had been better communication, this could have easily been a positive review and we may have hired him- the work on the neighbor's house looks great. Instead, I would recommend against his services because although the estimator was on time, friendly, and they answer the phone, they were rude and ended up wasting our time.
