Past reviewers are absolutely correct that getting a hold of Francis is no easy task. Two weeks after I left a voicemail, they finally returned my call to schedule a time to visit and assemble a quote. Francis himself was personable and seemed highly knowledgeable. I spent an hour or more with him reviewing our various projects and was impressed at the level of detail he was capturing in notes. He assured me that we would hear back with a quote in a week. No word after a week. No word after two weeks. I called 2-3 times subsequently, leaving voicemails, asking for a follow-up. We never did hear back and have since selected a different contractor. I understand that contractors are busy and take/reject jobs for a variety of reasons. As consumers, all we ask is that you communicate, don't set false expectations, and don't waste our time. They failed on all counts.

The painters employed by Francis X White Builders Inc did a thorough and complete job painting our two porch decks and posts and removing four unstable railings. Our house was built in 1889 and there was still some lead paint under layers of peeling paint on the posts. The lead certified painters did a very careful, lead safe removal of those small areas. The decks had not been scraped in years, required a lot of hard work, and created debris that was carefully cleaned up. All of the prep work was attended to in a methodical way. The decks were primed and subsequently given two coats of the finish paint. The completed job is neat and clean and we are very happy with the results. A great job!

It went perfectly. It turned out exactly how we wanted it to. We picked out all the materials with Fran's son, who was a tremendous help and very knowledgeable. It made things so easy. The employees were very nice and extremely talented. We had a deadline and they made sure that it was met with time to spare. We have received numerous compliments on our deck and next year we are going to add a roof to it. I would and have recommended Francis White Builders to anyone looking for construction work. In the past Fran has also done a basement for us, which turned out beautiful. He does such quality work. It is always a pleasure to work with him. Thank you. Brian J. Dobisch

From the outset, Fran was receptive to our vision and wants. He gave us many options for design with a lot of practical ideas and knowledgeable suggestions on what would work and what wouldn't. Once a plan was settled on and work began, it never stopped. As Fran promised, there was never a work interruption. The men who worked at the house were very talented, however, a couple of times Fran stopped a task and had it done over because it wasn't perfect. Fran truly showed great attention to detail and a desire to produce a great result. Whenever we felt the job was really looking great, Fran had a small suggestion or an added detail that enhanced the overall appearance. We've been in our new remodel now for two years, and rarely does a week pass that we don't look around and say how wonderful the remodel turned out! A final note - we had a large addition and remodel done about 10 years ago by another contractor. The difference in accessibility and communication with Fran was night and day. So was the attention to detail and ensuring we were thrilled every step of the way. We would highly recommend Fran and his team.

We are thrilled with the results! The quality of the work is outstanding - the details are just beautiful. My husband is a carpenter by trade (now a PM) and he is fairly meticulous when it comes to allowing contractors to do what he would love to do himself if he had the time. Fran worked with us over several months from conception to design to finished product. Steve was onsite every day, on-time and with a can-do attitude. The job site was set up with plastic to protect other areas from excessive dust. Each day the work site was swept clean and left immaculate. We were continuously kept in the communication loop with regard to how the finished product should look/work. For example, Steve would provide mock-ups of the trim designs on the fireplace, window trim and wainscoting, We had the opportunity to fully review and approve all designs before they were completed. We did not need a designer or architect (huge savings), Fran and Steve took all of our visions and made them a reality - always better than expected. Fran is busy - and we understand why, but he is worth making an extra phone call to get him and his team into your home.

Very happy with results. Mr. White did an excellent job in explaining our options. Work was performed on-time and met all expectations.

Prior to agreeing to a contract provider listened to our objectives for improvements and offered many options with pros and cons for the different choices. Once we selected our course of action the provider guided through the various decisions with regard to selection of materials. There was constant follow-up and monitoring of the construction by the provider.

Very responsive to request for an estimation. Quick turnaround. The two guys came on time and took time to get the job done right. Very happy with everything.

They didn't fix it. They said, "Well, we can't find the leak." It still leaks when there is a pretty strong storm. The wind has to be blowing the right way to force it into wherever it's leaking. I had them come out twice. I wasn't here. They claimed they spent quite a few hours. But I have no way of verifying that. The pricing was fair.

I contacted Frances X. White Builders for an estimate on two columns for our front porch. Fran contacted me shortly after I sent in the request and he told me he would be out to provide me with an estimate. He missed our first meeting for the estimate, but called and came out, I believe the next day. He got back to me in writing with a professional contract and an estimate soon after obtaining a price at his lumber yard . We agreed to have the columns ordered and the work to be done. The columns were ordered right away and came in within several days. The columns were installed prior to the Christmas holidays and we look forward to painting them this spring. No more wooden columns to worry about. The new columns should last a lifetime! Thank you!!

Our first contact with Fran was though Angie's List. He promptly returned our call and we set a date for him to come look at the job. Fran was the third of three contractors that were going to bid on the work we wanted done. He was very maticulous from the moment he entered our home with measurememts and a through discussion of our expectations. He wanted to give us an honest, fair estimate so that there were no surprises. After getting estimates from all three we decided to go with Fran. His price was between the two but our decision was based on his reviews and his professionalism. He had several jobs lines up ahead of ours which we were okay with. There was not rush. After 3 months he gave us a start date. The lead carpenter on our job was Steve. Steve showed up every day and on time working very maticulously to get every last detail perfect. The wainscoting took a while because he is such a perfectionist. This is not just picture frame wainscoting but very detailed and a lot of it. The bathroom could be on a magazine cover. Small details that other contractors would not pay attention to were skillfully done. Every inch of that bathroom is perfection. I want to use it now even though I have a great master bath. Fran showed up on the job often to check on its status and checked in with me at least weekly to make sure I didn't have any concerns. Even the things we asked to be fixed that a previous contracted did were done on such a professional level I can't say enough. At the end of the day they cleaned up carefully as to not interrupt our life too much. I wish we had met Fran earlier when we had other work done, we would never have had to get anything fixed! Can't say enough about him and will use him again!

Fran gave the most detailed estimate of the 3 i got. He took an hour to make drawings and go over details of what the job entailed. The final estimate was very detailed and i believe the price was more accurate than the others. When i hired them they arrived on time and were very polite. Drop cloths went down and a wall of plastic went up around the work site so there was no dust. Every night they removed everything and left the job immaculate. Once the door was installed and finished It looked like it had always been there. Friends came over and didn't even notice it until I pointed it out. It is this kind of professionalism that I look for in a builder and will look forward to more work with this company.

The job went very well. His carpenter/painter, Les, did a fantastic job from start to finish. He was always on time. Every single day, he started by laying out a drop cloth from the front door to the basement steps so as to not track any debris into the house while coming in and out with supplies or bringing up dust from the extensive sanding he needed to do in the basement. At the end of each day, he would remove the drop cloth and even made sure that the front porch had no debris on it. He tidied up the basement each day before he left. He is courteous, respectful and trustworthy. I did not hesitate in leaving him alone in my home to do his work. The basement looks brand new. We are very pleased with his work.

First let me say that Francis White and his team are extremely professional. They are prompt and hard working; arriving early each day and working long hours. Francis met with us multiple times to review the designs and work with us to make changes; he was upfront and candid with what would and would not work and valued our feedback as well. He met with neighbors when they had questions about the project. Francis and his team were very respectful of the neighbors and always cleaned up and never left a mess. They realized that we have young children and never used vulgar language and were always very amiable when our children wanted to watch. The one and only day they could not do work on our garage, they called in advance to let us know. His work is of the highest quality and he included us on every decision and filled us in on each step of the work. Each person in his crew is knowledgable and were willing to field our questions. Though our garage was not an easy project, as it was dug into a hill, the work exceeded our expectations. We are so happy in fact, that we have asked Francis to do an even larger project for us. It was the attention to detail that sets Francis apart from other contractors; it is apparent that he is a perfectionist, takes pride in his work and customer satisfaction is his number one priority. I have recommended Mr. White's work to friends, neighbors and colleagues because we are quite certain they would be as satisfied as we were.

I have called businesses that i found on Angies and have been told that they are so far out booked that they are not taking any more jobs at this time. I appreciated their honesty. This provider didn't even return my calls.

The retrofit of our commercial space was done -from start to finish- professionally, on time, and under budget. As the work progressed, F.X. White provided timely suggestions that not only improved the look of the office space but also saved us time and money. The job supervisor and work crew were great to work with. The contractor came up with a novel approach to prepare the call center space to secure the acoustic wood and fabric panels. They saved us tens of thousands of dollars over the other bids we had received. Our project was completed ahead of schedule, with excellent fit and finish, and as noted above significantly under budget. The F. X. White workmen also cleaned up the workplace every day, leaving the rooms neat and clean.

Fran White is a true professional in every respect. During the past three years, he has performed a host of household repairs and renovations to our 38 year old 3500 square foot home, and each job was done to perfection. Although a bit pricey, the work that Fran White does is worth every penny. Having Fran White as your builder insures high quality work, impeccable craftsmanship, friendly and trustworthy workers, and above all else the comfort of knowing that "the job will be done right" and done to your complete satisfaction. Put another way, you can take a vacation during a Fran White project and return home to a masterfully completed job. We did. We highly recommend Fran White!!! In fact, Fran White will be performing more household repairs and upgrades for us during this upcoming Spring and Summer.

Had a good feeling from the very first meeting. Fran was straight up and explained everything very well. Options were provided and recommendations were given to up to help us make our decisions. The technicians arrived on time and were very friendly. They were neat and considerate of our home. The materials and workmanship were excellent and I feel we received a quality product and excellent service. The only negative was the time estimate. I was told the entire project would take 2 to 3 days. It took 5 to complete. Other than that I was completely satisfied with the work and with the entire team. I will definitely use FXW Builders again for future projects.

As you can see, the list of contracts is extensive and we stay with Fran because of the quality of his craftsmen and his skills as project manager for all construction phases including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, custom wood working, painting and roofing. THEY ARE SUPERB! FOR PRICING, THERE ARE NO SURPRISES, HE MEETS AGREED TARGETS. AS WITH MANY CONTRACTS YOU CANNOT TELL THE RANGE OF REPAIR NEEDS UNTIL THE WALLS ARE OPENED, BUT HE ALWAYS EXPLAINS DISCOVERIES AS THE JOB PROGRESSES QUALITY: EXCELLENT IN ALL REGARDS. HIS TEAM ARRIVES ON TIME, WORKS HARD AND LEAVES THE JOB SITE IN GOOD ORDER. THEY CLEAN AT THE END OF EACH DAY AND ENSURE THAT CONSTRUCTION DUST DOES NOT BLOWN AROUND THE LIVING AREAS. FRAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN PROMPT AND THOROUGH. HE IS ALSO AMAZINGLY CREATIVE HELPING US TO FURTHER ENHANCE OUR HOME. AS NOTED ABOVE, THEY ARRIVE ON TIME WITH THE RIGHT TEAM AND TOOLS. THEY LEAVE AT THE END OF EACH DAY WITH A CLEAN JOB SITE. HIS PROFESSIONALISM IS EXCELLENT. HIS TEAM ALL LOOK, ACT AND DELIVER IN A HIGHLY COMPETENT AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER.

I was in need of a few small projects for my new home and contacted Francis X White Builders. After multiple attempts at trying to get someone on the phone I left several messages. Almost two weeks later, someone finally called me back and scheduled a date and time to come to my house to give me a quote. Of course, no one ever showed up. It was raining pretty bad that day so I anticipated that Fran might be late or not able to make it, so I called again (no one picked up of course) and I left a message asking if someone would still be making it and if not, if they would at least call me back so I could re-schedule. Its been a few weeks now, and no response still. If you want someone's business, pick up your phone and return your calls.

The work took about eight weeks, and it was completed on schedule. F.X. White was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire project. They have a lot of experience and expertise in planning, designing, and installing high-end kitchens. The team of skilled tradesman did an excellent job from start to finish. We are very impressed with the workmanship and professionalism of F.X. White Builders. We have used them before as well for other home improvement projects. In every instance, they have met or exceeded our expectations.

Fran White's company recently built an addition for my elderly parents. Fran's farsightedness in including all they needed to live comfortably is certainly appreciated by us. The two rooms are attractive, practical, light, airy and a pleasure to live in. The professionalism shown by the workers, the excellent workmanship, plus the fact that the work was completed on time are why we are recommending Fran White. We feel glad we chose him.

The front porch of our 1889 house needed significant repairs and renovations. Fran White was the only builder of the five that we called to follow-up with an estimate and who discussed possible job dates that fit our schedule. The job site carpenter demonstrated accomplished carpentry skills and craftsmanship; he also has a wonderful eye for detail. All facets of the renovations were completed in a very professional way. The workmen stayed focused and dedicated to the job. They have a neat working manner and they cleanup thoroughly each day. Communication with the carpenter, his assistant, and Fran White was very good throughout the job. We are very happy with the project. The quality of the work is excellent and quite visually pleasing. Without hesitation we recommend Fran White and would hire his crew again!

Just completed three major projects. Fran, Steve and George were terrific every step of the way. Fran competed a great design for newly finished space and Steve and George executed it perfectly. They were punctual every day, reliable, trustworthy and always willing to go the extra mile. The work is extremely high quality. Fran's suppliers were great to deal with. He coordinated everything, from selections to deliveries. For a few items we chose to use our own suppliers and he was flexible, cooperative and helpful with that as well. We had a very specific budget for one of the projects and Fran worked with us to find options to help remain within the limits. Fran is an excellent communicator and there are no surprises. And we can't say enough about Steve and George who consistently exceeded our expectations. You may find a lower bid, but you won't find any better value for your dollar. And you may wait a bit to get into his schedule, but it will be worth it. We will use Fran and his team again.
