Team Basements

The job went poorly. There were many errors and the quality of the work was sloppy: 1. They measured the opening for the basement and garage windows wrong twice. 2. They installed one wrong-sized window in the garage (too small) and we had to insist they remove it and order the correct size. When they finally installed the correct garage windows, the grout on the outside was smeared on the decorative brick windowsills beneath both garage windows. My husband had to use a wire wheel brush to get the grout off the brick. 3. The door company they used delivered the wrong door order twice, both times solid double doors, before finally delivering the French doors we had ordered. When we tried to phone Team Basement, we got a "cell phone not in service" message. We ended up emailing and Dan insisted his cell was working fine. This happened several times. 4. Once they installed the French doors, they failed to remove the plastic adhesive masking used in the factory when the doors were painted, although we specifically asked them to take care this. I had to remove the adhesive myself with a razor blade from each window pane on both sides. 4. While installing dry wall, the workers broke a light bulb in the laundry area and did not clean it up - I found glass all over the dryer and on the floor when they had finished for the day. We emailed Team Basement to let them know. The same thing happened the very next time the workers came to finish the dry wall. 5. While grouting the floor tile, the workers used our basement laundry sink to rinse out the bucket (they used one of my kitchen buckets without asking and left it caked in grout). We only found out when our sink became clogged and the sump pump we have attached to the sink stopped working. We had to have our plumber come and remove a bucket full of hardened grout from the drain. 6. The workers left a residue on the tiles, failing to make sure they wiped them down when they finished grouting, so we had to use a special grout removal solution to remove the residue ourselves. When it came time to pay the balance of our bill, we itemized the costs we incurred (plumber's bill and the grout removal solution), and Team Basement deducted the costs from our final bill. We were so relieved to see the last of them.

We had a really good experience with Team Basements. After speaking with and getting estimates from three companies, we decided to hire Dan and Team Basements. We had a completely unfinished basement and they worked with us to achieve exactly what we envisioned. We had an initial walk-through where we described our plan, a large L-shaped room with as few "bump-outs" and as many clean lines as possible, with the remaining area left for storage. They immediately understood what we were trying to accomplish and offered really useful suggestions. After they marked off their plan to achieve this we together did a detailed review of the markings and plans and they made adjustments as we requested. A couple of unforeseen issues came up (a pipe that needed to be moved in order to avoid losing some ceiling height, a need for additional lighting, and the need to replace the electrical panel) and in these instances Dan recommended subcontractors who efficiently did the needed work at or below their estimates. During the finishing stage, Team Basements accomodated our requests for durable wall paint, wider baseboard and different door hardware gracefully and efficiently. This was our first major home project using contractors and the entire process went so much more smoothly and pleasantly than we had anticipated. Dan and his Team were a pleasure to work with. We feel that we received remarkable value for our money and are really happy with the finished space, which turned out exactly as we had hoped it would. The basement was completed on budget except for the plumbing and electrical "add-ons" noted above. The only part that the Team did not do was the floor since we decided to install laminate flooring ourselves rather than have them carpet the basement due to issues with allergies.

The price was a little more than usual. They are best known in the area for that kind of work and it was probably about 10% more than another company would charge. They were excellent all around.

They did a good job and cleaned up after themselves. They were very responsive and careful and good about getting permits to do the job. They were professional and they came on time. I would recommend them.
