I thought they were excellent. I think they really knew what they were doing when they did the work and I?ve been satisfied with everything since then.
Description of Work: Russell Roofing Company had to redo a whole side of our slate roof. They had to tear it off and rebuild it, and they replaced the gutters as well.

At Russell Roofing, we want to be able to provide our customers with a warranty. In this situation, we replaced a section of the roof that we could warrant. As long as we can do a section of roof from the gutter to the peak and logical starting and stopping points on the sides we can warrant that section. Now this customer has a warranted section of roof that will last generations. Remember, "If It's Russell, It's Right, Guaranteed!"

From the day of the initial estimate it took a few weeks for them to get back to me (which is the only reason for the 'B' on responsiveness.) But once Ron set the work date the crew arrived right on time and quickly did the job in the time and at the cost they quoted. Vince was the foreman and Richard assisted. They were friendly, professional, and answered all my questions and concerns. I've had Russell Roofing do estimates for roof repair before, and the impression they left is the reason I hired them for this job. Their work on this job reinforces that first impression.
Description of Work: I had Russell Roofing perform an estimate, and then do the job of supplementing the inadequate insulation in my attic, as well as installing retainers to hold the loose-fill insulation in place around the entry, and replacing the draughty hatch door with an insulated one to seal the attic entry.

Adding or replacing insulation is the quickest return on your investment out of any home improvement. If your house was built before 1980, then you probably need more insulation. The pros at Russell Roofing can do an inspection and give you the right recommendations to save you money from the day it is installed. You will feel the difference with your comfort level and your pocketbook! That's why we say, "If It's Russell, It's Right, Guaranteed!"

(UPDATE) 4/5/2011 After initial problems with the company (detailed below), Service Manager Jack Coyle at Russell Roofing took control of the situation, and methodically and professionally responded to and addressed all of my concerns. His crew was at my residence within a day of any issue with specialists and attention to detail. While repairing a sour first impression is one one the most difficult endeavors in business, Jack and his team were selfless and top notch in making things right. They stand behind their work, and I would use them again. ______________________________________________________________________ The sales process was quite professional, with multiple displays, pamphlets, and examples of high-end work for high-end clients. I wanted high-end work for my home, and wanted to work with accountable professionals, making our decision to go with the more expensive Russell Roofing over other local contractors. Once the job was sold, the expected communication between our project manager and myself was mostly one-sided (my end). Once work started, the flat roof crew was great and very helpful. Our project manager did not relay expectations to the copper flashing and slate crew, and some items (cleaning of gutters) were not completed, nor did they do a walk-through explaining their work and answering questions, which was told to us would happen during the sales pitch. Our roof ultimately had a leak after being replaced, and it damaged our home office ceiling requiring drywall repairs. Repairs were not completed until 2 months after completion of original contract, even though repairs only took 2 hours. Ultimately, I had very high expectations and made them crystal clear upon entering into the contract with Russell Roofing. The end result in terms of craftsmanship (sans the leak) was adequate. The overall experience with the project manager and their office was not up to my standards, and I would not use this company again for work on my home.
Description of Work: Russell Roofing was contracted to remove existing flat roof, repair damage, install new flat roof. They were also contracted to remove existing flashing on slate roof and re-flash with copper, and repair and clean all gutters.

Overall the job went extremely well. Russell had 2 crews working the job so it was completed in a timely fashion. I was very pleased with the quality of their work and the professionalism of the organization. They installed the insulation in the middle of August (on a very hot day) in order to not have to come back later and run hoses through the house (they were concerned with potential damage). Cleanup was great including a very thorough inspection of the work and pickup of any nails and/or debris. They came back and repaired a minor problem with a reinstalled downspout - no questions asked. I waited to submit this report until GAF completed their lifetime warranty inspection (of course, they had no problems with the work).
Description of Work: Replaced entire roof with GAF-ELK Timberline Lifetime HD Shingles. Sistered/Replaced 10 broken/badly warped rafters. Replaced all roof plywood with 5/8" CDX Plywood sheet Installed vented soffit panels. Installed ridge vent. Hand nailed, copper counter flashing. Installed 12" of AttiCat expanding blown-in pink fiberglass insulation in attic.

Funny you talked about the inspection. Our goal is to protect the customer the best way we know how. That protection includes having the manufacturer of the shingles (GAF) inspect the roof and sign-off on it. It's what we would want if it was our house! We have more inspected and fully warranted roofs (which includes our installation) in the Philadelphia market than any other roofer. That is why we say, "If It's Russell, It's Right, Guaranteed!"

We hope to earn your business in the future. Our company thrives on word of mouth so our goal is to make you happy. Our company is set up with one goal in mind and that is to protect our customer the best way we know how. We have hundreds of years of roofing experience within our company and we know how roofers cut corners. One thing to be aware of when shopping for a roofer; when someone gives you a lower proposal than ours we know it means they are cutting corners somewhere. Usually it is in the things you may not see like insurance, workman’s compensation, safety, taxes, background checks, drug screening, training, certifications, and materials. Ultimately it is up to the consumer to decide how much risk that they want to take on. We just want to be the least amount of risk. We hope that you chose Russell Roofing. After the crew finished their work I contacted the Russell Roofing project manager to let him know that the repair team did not replace the siding, as specified in the contract. The project manager told me that he would get back to me in a few days with the adjusted price. After several days, I was contacted and told that the price would only be adjusted downward $100. I was very shocked that re-siding a good sized section of the exterior wall would only be worth $100. I was told that the repair crew spent more time at our house than originally anticipated, and that this reflected the added "labor costs". Mind you the amount of work that was performed by the repair crew was only about 3 hours, with no on-site complications! However, since I felt convinced our leak problem was solved, I agreed to pay the revised amount of $1,470. About a month later the real problems started. In mid July we had a big Thunderstorm that dumped several inches of rain on our area of Montgomery county. During the storm, water started leaking into the kitchen ceiling in the same spot as before. I immediately called the project manager and informed him of our issue. After a week or so he came out and looked at where the water leaked into the kitchen. I mentioned that perhaps they should do a water test with a hose to ascertain the exact location of the leak, rather than just guess. A repairman came out and made a few adjustments to the shingles and flashing and left. I was told the problem was now corrected. The rest of the summer was generally dry, but during our next big rainstorm the leaking occured again in the same spot. Again I contacted the project manager and he said he would send someone out. Another week or so passed and I got a call stating the repair manager will come out and place some foam material behind the siding (which is the siding that was never replaced per the contract). He came out and spent about 20 minutes performing this task. I communicated my thoughts again that I think they should focus and determine where the root cause of the leak exists, rather than just guess where it's located. In September we had a huge rainstorm that dumped 5-6 inches of rain in a day. Guess what - more leaking into the kitchen! This time the water was leaking in at a much faster rate in the same area. Since I had the direct number of the repair manager (which he gave to me on a business card), I left him a message to call me immediately. The next morning I called and also left a message with the project manager and re-communicated our ongoing issue. After a few days I finally got a return call. As an aside, the company responsiveness as these ongoing leaks occured seem to decline dramatically. A number of times I had to leave several messages on the project manager's office and cell phone before I got a return call. Rarely was it within hours or the same day as you would expect from a customer service oriented company. Eventually the repair manager came out to the house and started to do more investigative work. After pulling some of the plaster away in the kitchen ceiling we both noticed a piece of "J channel" that was wedged in the ceiling. This piece apparently was channeling water into the kitchen from an unknown location. The repair manager pulled some siding and flashing off and looked around but could not find the leak source. He also caulked some areas that I guess were not caulked before. I finally insisted and physically brought my garden hose around back to do a water test. This is something I thought would have been done from the beginning to identify and isolate the root cause of the leak. Apparently all the money I spent on the new roof section was not where the leak originated from, because water didn't leak in when the hose sprayed in that direction. However, when the hose sprayed on an adjacent siding section, water leaked into the kitchen. At that point the repair manager stated that this was another area of the siding that was not reflected in the original contract and he would need to talk to the project manager. No further work was done and he packed up and left. This was on 10/8. The following Friday (10/15), the project manager called me and said that they would need to pull off other areas of the siding to search for the leak, and that would be additional work. Sensing that he was fishing for more money, I quickly commented that Russell Roofing had failed in their diagnosis and repair of the leak I contracted them to fix. He mentioned he would discuss this internally with other members of his team and get back to me on Monday with a plan. Monday (10/18) came and went with no call and by Friday (10/22) I called him back and left a voicemail reminding him of our unresolved issue. He called back several hours later and said that they would come out with two technicians for $250 per hour to remove the other siding to find the leak. I immediately retorted that I should not have to pay additional money since the leak I contracted them to fix was not resolved. I added that I basically paid $1,500 for a new section of roof I didn't need, an undiagnosed water leak from the start of the project and I was screwed out of new siding which was specified in the contract. The project manager had the nerve to mention his technician came out several times previously without any charge to me! This was because I had water leaking into my kitchen that they were supposed to repair! At this point I decided I needed to escalate this to the owner of Russell Roofing for an acceptable resolution. The owner called me back within the day. Basically he reiterated that our house has some sort of pre-existing condition and he would send technicians out at a per hour cost to me. He also would not guarantee that the leak would be corrected. However if I wanted a guarantee, he would write up a separate bid for a whole new project. I communicated to him that my biggest gripe was that this job was poorly diagnosed from the beginning (no water test, assumption that it was the roof leaking). The owner kept reiterating his long company heritage and specially trained employees, etc; and that we were a valued customer. However never once did he just say, we'll come out and finish the job correctly so you're a satisified customer. Well I'm not a satisfied customer. This is one of the worst customer service experiences that I have ever encountered. What Russell Roofing doesn't seem to understand is that a project like this is an annuity job for the future. Eventually we'll need a new roof, and our friends and neighbors will need new roofs or siding. Often they'll call me or my wife about what contractors we liked or disliked. This is a no-brainer in my response. Basically I threw $1,500 down the drain and my leak is not fixed. I will never recommend this unprofessional company to anyone.
Description of Work: Our sole purpose for contacting Russell Roofing is because we had a water leak coming in our kitchen ceiling. We signed a contract with Russell Roofing on 5/11/2010 to correct a water leak that was entering the kitchen ceiling during particularly heavy rainstorms. A $525 deposit was handed over at the contract signing. The services that were to be performed based on analysis of this water leak were replacement of a section of roofing over the kitchen, as well as replacement of the vinyl siding adjacent to the roof. Additionally the metal flashing in that area was to be replaced as well. The Russell Roofing project manager was certain that the leak was originating from the area that was to be replaced with new roofing and siding. On the morning of 6/11/2010, the Russell Roofing crew came out to perform the necessary repairs. I was home at the time and witnessed the entire operation. After about three hours or so, they came to me and said they were finished. I noticed that the siding was not replaced and they mentioned to me that they felt it was in fine shape and didn't need replacement. They assured me that their work should fix the leak problem and I should discuss the siding issue with the project manager to revise the final invoice to reflect the lower material and labor costs. I will say that the Russell repair crew that came to my house was professional and respectful.

Response from Russell Roofing Company Inc
This case was reported to the Better Business Bureau and Russell Roofing won the case. Here is the letter to the BBB: Russell Roofing has been in business for 18 years and we have over 12,000 satisfied customers. We have become one of the top 100 roofers in the United States by our customer service and not cutting corners. Our experience has shown us that it can be very difficult to find and stop a leak when a previous contractor did not follow the manufacturer’s specifications for installation. The only way that we can be sure that we stop a leak is to replace a section of roof and siding that we can stand behind. This means a section of the roof from the peak to the eave and any siding that is a possible connection to the leak. In Mr. ___’s case this would mean three sections of roof, six sections of siding, trim, gutters, downspouts and windows. We would be happy to give him a proposal for the replacement of these items. Then we can stand behind our work. With the repair that was proposed, there is no way that we can guarantee to stop a leak from someone’s prior poor installation. Because we are trying to do a repair on someone else’s work, we cannot warrant the repair. There was never a guarantee to stop the leak in the contract. We have made additional attempts to stop the leak beyond the agreed contract. As far as the $100 siding credit, this credit is for the material cost alone (which is actually less than $100). We did not have to replace the siding and the material itself is in good condition. As with almost all leaks, including this one, it is associated with an installation error somewhere. We have been trying to find the installation error that was made and try to fix the error but it is hit and miss. We have repaired the most common problems and we can continue to try to find the leak but there will be additional charges for our service labor. The owner of Russell Roofing talked to the homeowner to try to help him understand our process in trying to find the leak. We went to the home two additional times in an extra effort to stop the leak (additional three man hours at $125/man hour = $375) at no charge to the customer. This is time spent acquiring materials, travel, diagnostics, not just time spent at the house. As a consolation, the owner of Russell Roofing made an extra effort to accommodate the customer’s requests and offered a reduced labor amount from $125 per man hour to $100 per man hour in a final attempt to stop the leak. Mr. ____ said that he would talk it over with his wife and call us. He never did. At Russell Roofing, we try to be the best customer service company in our trade but we cannot please everyone. We are deeply saddened that we could not make this customer happy.

I found Russell to be responsive and professional. My main concern was to get a company that would do the job right, because problems down the road are almost always caused by improper installation. They did the job promptly, cleaned up well, and moreover gave me a SureStart Plus certificate from CertainTeed, the manufacturer, that guarantees not only the shingles but also the workmanship for 25 years. I have to believe the manufacturer would be willing to give this guarantee only when it is satisfied that the roofer is going to do a quality job.

Thanks for the kind words! You are right, almost every old roof that we are on needs to be replaced because of installation errors. Very rarely are there materials issues (defective shingles). Just a correction though. The warranty that you received is technically called a 5-Star warranty from CertainTeed. This is the best warranty in the roofing trade and it does cover workmanship (our installation). Most roofers don't even know this type of warranty exists. The reason they don't know is because they are not certified at the highest levels from the shingle manufacturers so they cannot offer this warranty. Just to clarify, this warranty that we are talking about is a 25 year installation warranty from the manufacturer that covers our installation. Less than two percent of the roofers in the United States can offer this warranty and only half of those actually do! The reason is that they can't supervise their crews well enough to get the warranty! This warranty is full protection. The materials are covered (material warranty), the labor is covered (replacement of defective materials), and the workmanship is covered (the installation). So you have no out of pocket expenses for the next 25 years. That's why we say, "If It's Russell, It's Right, Guaranteed!"

The sales rep (who admitted he normally did commercial estimates) who gave us the initial estimate was prompt and listened to our concerns. He inspected the roof and measured our existing skylights. He said he would get us an estimate. The estimate took some time and we had to call him a couple times for it. He presented us with the estimate and provided explanations of each line item. We accepted the estimate and the estimated start date was scheduled. The first date the roof workers got to work. However, the skylight person came and determined we would need a custom size and the estimate for the skylights would be 3 times the originally provided estimate. This was disappointing to hear and would have been great to know when we received the original estimate. We ended up with a smaller (standard) size skylight. The remaining work was smooth from there. There were hiccups but overall the company was professional to work with.

Needless to say I was angry and disappointed with their lack of response and lack of professionalism. Thanks to Angies List I was able to find other reputable roofing companies to interview
Description of Work: I called in the beginning of July to get an appointment for an inspection on my flat roof. After several weeks, and phone calls the representative came out. I was told I may be able to get away with another coating but the roof was old. He explained the new product they were using for installing new roofs. It was very costly and gave me a ballpark figure of between $12, 000 and $15,000. He called a few days later to make another appointment to sit down and talk to me about my decision. I told him I decided to go with another $1,000 coating for now, the cost of the new roof was much higher than expected. He still insisted on coming out. We made another appointment which he later canceled. I called him with another available time. He never responded to my call. I called and left him 3 more messages within a 4 week span and I never heard back from him or anyone else from the company. Did they only want my business if I agreed to a $15,000 new roof??? I had been a loyal Russell Roofing customer for 15 years. They were always professional and did a good job coating the roof and repairing any broken shingles in the front.

Flat roofs can be difficult to diagnose but when the roof is nearing the end of it’s lifespan it can be in the homeowner’s best interest to replace it, especially if we have a winter like the last one. As far as the lack of responsiveness, we agree that this behavior is not acceptable. We have addressed this issue with the estimator. We have attempted to contact this customer after their Angie’s list posting and we have not heard from them as of 9/10/2010.

I had the same experience as the previous poster. I made an appointment, and the estimator came over to look at my proposed roof repairs. After doing so, he said he needed to show the photos to someone else, to determine whether my roof could be repaired, or needed to be replaced. I wondered why he wasn't qualified, but if that's what he prefered, it was okay with me. He said he would get back to me in 4 days - but I never heard from him again. Having read the previous post, I don't understand it. Does Russell expect the prospective customer to call them back after an estimate? If so, they need to say so, because this person specifically told me that he would contact me.

Russell Roofing is committed to providing the best long term roofing solutions for our prospects and customers. There are some scenarios where it is best to replace the roof rather than attempt repair after repair only to find out that the homeowner still needs to replace the roof. After talking with this homeowner, we believe there was a misunderstanding about how the estimator was going to proceed with the proposal to replace the roof and we were not interested in doing a repair. We wish this homeowner good luck with the contractor they have chosen to do the repair. At the end of our conversation, the homeowner said that if their contractor didn’t work out, they would call Russell Roofing again.

I called Russell Roofing to request a bid to replace my cedar roof. Their representative came out to the house and spent over an hour and a half discussing the roof replacement job and measuring our house. He then never sent me a bid nor did anyone else at Russell ever call us to discuss why they did not send us a bid. I would never call them again and would never recommend them to anyone. I can only assume that the unprofessionalism demonstrated during the bidding process would carry over to their actual roofing work.

We want to sit down with them and go though the details of the proposal so that they understand the scope of the work and to make sure that we are in agreement about the work to be done. For this reason, we do not send a proposal by mail or by email. We would be happy to sit down with you to go through a proposal if you are serious about reroofing.

It is sad with the state of our roofing trade. With the average roofer, the more recent the installation, the worse the workmanship. Every week we get calls from prospects that want us to repair other roofers' bad work. In many cases it means replacing the roof becuase there are thousands of nails installed incorrectly. It is sad to see perfectly good shingles being torn off of a roof because they were installed so poorly. This member said it best, "they were a bit expensive but it was worth the work." We believe in doing it right the first time. That is why we hand nail our asphalt shingles, we DO NOT use nail guns. That's why we say, "If It's Russell, It's Right, Guaranteed!"

We proposed to replace her flat roof and slate roof. She had other proposals for half of our price and a quarter of our price. When selecting a roofer, always consider your level of risk when the roofer has such a low number and can be working on your house so soon.

I contracted with Russell roofing because of their excellent reputation although their price was higher than another bid I received. It was almost 6 weeks before the job was done. A subcontractor performed the work. I was unaware that Russell used subcontractors and was concerned as to whether he was licensed or working under his own insurance. They started the job late in the day and it was dark when they finished. They left without speaking to me and I only assumed that they had completed the job. I called the Project Manager and told him my concerns. I was told that they "used him all the time". I believe that since I was willing to pay their price that they should have assumed more responsibilty and at least come out to check the quality of the work.

Thank you of your comments. This past winter has caused thousands of storm related damaged roofs. Most of the damage (like your gutters) has been caused by ice and snow. This has caused our production backlog to be as much as 20 weeks out. We do our very best to get to jobs in a timely fashion but we follow a strict schedule to assure that the jobs are completed in the order they were signed up. It took six weeks to get to your job because we had six weeks of work that had signed up before yours. Of course, our work is weather dependent and that backlog of work does not include inclement weather. To give you a background in our trade, subcontractors have been used for decades in the roofing business. Many roofers only use only subcontractors and don't supervise them. Your concern is a good one and should be addressed when hiring any contractor. At Russell Roofing we are different than almost all other roofers when it comes to subcontractors. While we do use some subcontractors, they are required to have the same licensing and insurance coverage as Russell Roofing and they install the roof according to all the manufacturers specifications to provide the homeowner with the best warranties in our trade. This is to protect you. Every subcontractor is supervised by a Russell Roofing employee and project managed by a Russell estimator to make sure that everything gets done the way you expect (and we demand). At the end of every job, our supervisors inspect the job and go through a checklist that makes sure the job is completed according to the agreement that you have made.

They are absolutely the best! They explained everything and they did a perfect job. The person who came to interview me was there throughout the the entire job. People of individual skills were monitored. Anytime I had a question, and I had many, they answered them. They were the most pleasant men I have met in a long time! The flashing is the best I have ever had done. I have gone through several roofing experiences. They did the smaller roof over the window beautifully with copper. I specifically asked for copper, and their metalworker, who was wonderful, was not sure if eh could do it. Once he determined that he could he did it perfectly. They are very business like and do not waste any time. Because of the location, the work all had to be done by going up ladders and carrying buckets down the ladders. This was not a quick or easy job.
Description of Work: I had a roof above the bathroom in a 3 story brick house. Originally it had been tin, but the tin was not in tact in all places. It then had 10 coats of thick roofing paper with tar in between. There was also a firewall which tended to leak. It was 2.5-2.75 inches thick, they had to hack it off. There was another small roof over a stained glass window separated into 3 parts. They also installed a gutter box.

Thanks for the kind words. Your job was in a difficult location and high up! You mentioned lowering the old material down in buckets. Did you know that (in some cases) it is the law? Almost all roofers are not following OSHA regulations. At Russell Roofing, we don't cut corners. From insurance, to training, to certifications, to warranties, or OSHA regulations we use the best practices in our trade. If you would have hired a roofer that is not following these criteria, you are putting yourself at risk. If there was a worker that fell, if your neighbor was hurt from falling debris, if there are hazardous materials, a lawsuit could come back onto you (the homeowner). It is why we say that Russell Roofing is your safest choice. We protect the homeowner. "If It's Russell, It's Right, Guaranteed!"

This Angie's List member has told us that they are planning on moving in five years or less and has also told us that if they were staying in the house for a longer duration, Russell Roofing would have been considered for their best long term solution. To give you an idea about pricing, Russell Roofing has installed hundreds of church, school, and commercial roofs. These roofs are usually specified by a roofing consultant and then go out to several roofers to bid. Hundreds of times, Russell Roofing has been the low bid. What is the reason? The roofers that are bidding, are using the same criteria. The homeowner usually does not have the same experience as a roofing consultant. Many times the homeowner makes their decision on price because they think that there are "minor differences." We don't know who the homeowner ultimately chose as their roofer but when a roofer is half the price of Russell Roofing, that roofer is cutting corners. We know that if a roofer is doing everything that Russell Roofing is doing, we are going to be roughly the same price. The first major difference is that most roofers in the U.S. don't have roofing insurance. They have carpenters or handyman's insurance. If an accident happens on the roof and they don't have roofers insurance, the homeowner is liable. If they don't have proper insurance, are they paying men "under the table"? Are they paying their taxes? Are they using any specifications to insure that you get a "workmanship" warranty that covers their installation? (See other comments for more details about warranties.) Have they been in business more than five years? In these difficult financial times, many roofers are desperate for work and are pricing themselves out of business thinking that the lowest bid will keep them working. At Russell Roofing we want to be your safest choice. We don't want to waste your time or your money. We use the best insurance, training, certifications, workers, warranties, and craftsmanship to protect you! Every week, we get stories from homeowners that thought they chose the right roofer and found out from day one, or week one, or six months, or two years, that they made a mistake and now have to replace their roof again. In these economic times, why take chances? "If It's Russell, It's Right, Guaranteed!"

Russell Roofing Co. scheduled Ron to do the estimate just a few days later. He arrived on time and proceeded to examine the roof from inside the attic and from outside, upon his ladder. He took photographs to document the situation for the official estimate he would prepare. His diagnosis agreed with other estimates I had taken (an ice dam that formed during the snow fall and melt.) In addition, he suggested that the siding of the house might also be at fault, based on its condition. Since the following weekend the forecast was for a very windy hard rain, he suggested that I watch closely for signs of water penetration before deciding what action to take, and he pointed out where I should look for those signs. He explained his proposed repair in detail. He even pulled out the manual by which his certified work crew would perform. We discussed the condition of the roof and the neighboring town house roofs. He went so far as to indicate that ice dams may be one-time events, and suggested that since it might not cause leakage again in coming years, one possible course of action would be to put off this repair in favor of replacing the roof 3-4 years from now when it's due for replacement. Ron was informative and professional. I felt he took my concerns into consideration. The proposed fix sounded similar to other proposals, and came in a little higher in cost. Still, he made me feel like his company views itself as a partner in the fitness of my home, not merely a service provider. If he represents the quality of their work then I believe it would be well worth that cost.
Description of Work: This was my first winter in my home. As the snow thawed it revealed a leak in my roof that damaged the sheetrock and soaked into the insulation in the upstairs bedroom. I requested an estimate for repair.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" We had unusual ice damming last winter. It could happen again or it may never happen again. To be sure it doesn't happen again, we need to do some repairs. In this case though, it may not be the roof. Please monitor and let us know if we can help in the future.

Excellent. Despite numerous attempts with other contractors to quote the job, Russell was the only contractor that was prompt in scheduling to visit us, provide a quote and in the end they got the job done on time and according to the quote they gave us originally. The overall work was completed in about one week's time, if that, and a supervisor was involved with visiting and monitoring the work. Fast forward to 2009, we had a leak appear and Russell came out promptly, viewed the leak and the work they had done originally and were honest enough to say it appears the original caulk on a seam did not cure properly. They replaced it and that was that. No charge, leak issue gone. After having so much anxiety and bad experiences with contractors, we are glad to know there is a reliable, honest roofing company like Russell.

If you are a previous customer of ours and you call into the office about a leaking situation, our goal is to be there within 24 hours. If the leak is within the scope of our work and it is a warrantable item, there is no charge. This may have been a material failure and it is technically not our fault but we just try to do the right thing. The right thing in this case is no charge!

It was a wonderful experience from start to finish! They were neat, quiet, professional, and always on time. They finished when they said they would, protected the window trim and house against possible damage during the job, and they even pulled a magnet around the yard to make sure they got all of the nails picked up. They were a little more expensive than other proposals I received, but I am glad that I chose them. They were more through on their original inspection than the others, and they did a very good job.

We are thrilled that you had a great Russell Roofing experience! Does the contractor bring organization and discipline? Or, does the contractor bring chaos, doubt, and worry? The right diagnosis, the right proposal, the right supervision, the right materials, the right insurance, the right specifications, the right training, the right workers, the right safety, the right installation, and the right warranties. Russell Roofing was very responsive telling me they could send someone to the home right away to remove snow from the roof. Since I was not at the home they asked me to pay by credit card- $200. This was an emregency and I was OK with the $200. They removed the snow from a lower eve but never touched the snow on the roof that was melting right into the problem area. After multiple calls to them asking for an update on how it went, I finally talked to Bill and he told me they were charging me $250. They said that is the number they quoted over the phone. They would not discuss it with me and told me if I had a problem I should use another company.

This winter season, the Philadelphia market has had more snow than any other season on recorded history. Every house is unique with roof slopes, ventilation, insulation, sun exposure and shading. We have been flooded with calls of ice dams on roofs, collapsing roofs, and leaks that have never happened before. Fortunately, most of these calls are not any of our 12,000 plus previous customers. Our emergency service teams are on call 24 hours a day to try to provide the best customer service in our trade. To mobilize a crew and get them to your location is a $500 emergency service fee. This fee includes a fully equipped truck, two drug-screened, certified, master roofers with full roofing insurance, and materials for two man hours from dispatch. Removing snow and ice from a roof is a dangerous process and cannot always be executed. If the job cannot be performed, the customer does not pay for the services that have not been performed. Any additional man hours are charged at $125 per man hour. These payment terms are discussed and agreed upon by the property owner before dispatch. A deposit payment made over the phone to get them into our production schedule. This does not mean that we will be able to stop a leak or remove all of the ice or snow. If we did not install the roof, we cannot guarantee it free of leaks. We made an exclusive agreement with this customer since the property is less than a mile from our office to only charge $250. We removed as much snow as we could safely remove. The customer was frustrated with us for not removing all the snow and not being able to stop the leak. We offered to come back out now that there has been more melting and we might be able to safely remove more. The customer was informed of our normal fees and declined.

It was a massive job because there was a very severe damage and they were excellent. I had 3 bids for my roof which were pretty close, but I was more comfortable with these guys. They were very thorough, very detailed and very careful. They will call me immediately in case of any problem and made sure everything was done to my liking. They assigned several mangers to check the work and the guys were very clean and very thorough. I was very impressed and I have recommended them to someone else too.

She is not kidding when she said, "It was a massive job!" At Russell Roofing, we love these kinds of projects. We say that the right roof for us is one that other roofers don't want any part of.
