Our house has held surprises before. We called Jamison because of positive reviews citing their willingness to deal with unforeseen problems. When the cheap stucco job on our front facade began to slide away from the brownstone above it, we knew we needed help. Jamison removed the original stucco and supporting materials, which were very poorly installed, and discovered a second window well we didn't know we had. They gave us several options, including making that window accessible, glass brick, and just cinder-blocking it up. We were on a budget and didn't really want extra light in our basement TV room, so we went with cinder block. The work was performed quickly and smoothly and the Jamison team were friendly and helpful at all times. They also left us extra paint for touch-up jobs without our having to ask. Would definitely work with them again.

He first came out and gave me a verbal estimate for $300-$400 for him to do the work solo. Then, when he sent me the estimate via company letterhead, it was inflated to $700. He also refused to say in his estimate that I don't have mold - even though he verbally stated that I didn't. He also refused to say that his cement work would prevent further water intrusion - he said that he would state that after the work is done. I didn't contact him any further.

Our company does not provide mold remediation as a service at this time; therefore we would not be able to give a written report on such. In your email dated August 30, 2013, you mentioned that you had already had a mold “expert” out and you did not need any statement from us regarding evidence of mold. During the appointment the estimator did not make any offer to do the work on the side for a reduced rate; he stated that he would be the mason onsite doing the work if you accepted the proposal from our company. This was also when he stated that he did not think it would be more than a few hundred dollars after you mentioned another quote you received for $2000.00. He did not give a specific amount because it is against our corporate policy because it leads to misunderstandings such as this one. If you had accepted the proposal, once the work was completed, we would be happy to provide a letter stating that the work we did would prevent future water seepage. We can not provide a letter on work we perform until it is actually completed. This was explained to you by the estimator in his email dated September 2, 2013 along with the answers to all of your other questions regarding the specific work included in the project. To date you have not accepted the proposal for the project. Please let us know if you have any further questions by contacting our office.

Ed arrived early for the appointment ( I noticed him waiting in his truck! ). He did a very thorough investigation of why we had water seeping into one of our bedrooms. We are on a slab and I had numerous horrific scenarios in my mind. I had caused my own problem by erecting a decorative wooden beam wall in my garden, which allowed no drainage and caused the water to find it's way into our home. Ed indicated that I needed to pull the wall and create drainage in the garden as a whole. He also made several excellent suggestions as to how I could accomplish what needed to be done. I am in the process of removing all of my "enhancements". Ed indicated that if water continued to visit after the changes were made to call Jamison's. Impressive visit and repair person! I would definitely call Jamison's again if needed and would recommend them whole heartedly!

I may have graded the experience at "Good" instead of the "Fair" I gave had the project manager in charge of the project been better. He did not show up for two days and failed to call and notify of why. After contacting him as well as the owner on the second day, I got one story from the project manager and another from the owner. I will say the owner was accomdating and professional and he made good on his promise to insure the workers would be back on the job the next day after I explained what was going on at the job (i.e,not working full days work at times, only project manager showing up one day, no show and no contact, and the fact that two workers would not be able to complete task within the ten days quoted on proposal---There was some things beyond their control such as inclement weather. Note: When they showed up after the no show after two days, they wre more workers however there wasvery little improve in the quickness of the work (i.e., The additional workers each carrying a bucket of depris from the back step that were removed.---How many people do you need in one location of the home?? There was plenty of tasks that need doing. The workers talked more than worked.) Also, when the project manager and his worker got to the backroom basement, the patach work to full in the numerous open areas and/or holes in the cement wall was subpar and he missed a few areas on the wall waterproof. I attempted numerous times after providing last payment on 10/23/2012 (which was mistake on my part since he had not completed everything in backroom basement when I left for work however I paid him because appeared they would be done by the end of the day and what I did see it seemed to be going okay) to get in contact with project manager. I finally did catch up with him right before Thanksgiving and he was to call me back later to discuss when he could return howeveer he never got back with me. I did attempt to contact him again after that ---- I say from the beginning until mid December of 2012 and never received a reply back. I thought about sending an email or written request but after review my paperwork again I notice there was no warranty stated on the work. I thought it was initially when I reviewed it but it appears I misread. That being said, I expected it I email or wrote it would be more of the same run around and/or avoidance. P.s. Since initial issue, my back alley cement work(landings) beyond the steps has fine lines cracks for work done less than a year. If used them again, it would have to be with a more experienced and professional contractor and/or project manager. The pointing and steps came out quite well so the experience was all bad and I would recommended the company for future work ,of course, with a disclaimer.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to the attention of our owner, had you not made that call, we would not have known about these issues. In this age of widespread cell phone use, it is often the case that customers will contact the sales personnel directly after the initial appointment is concluded. Therefore, we encourage all Angie’s List members to please contact the main office at any time if they have concerns with the way their project is progressing. The salesman you were dealing with is no longer working for the company – largely because of a pattern of poor communication with our customers. Someone from our office will be in touch with you to arrange a time to come out and assess the patching and waterproofing work that was not completed so that we can remedy the situation. Again we apologize for the experience you had with out past employee. We are glad to hear that you are happy with the pointing work and the steps and hope you will consider us for future work.

As others have said, we were thrilled to find an A company to handle building concrete steps on my sons' house. They do offer a phone number where someone always answers - therefore the C on responsiveness. Cutting to the chase - their quote was 3 days late and 2-4 times higher then anyone else we contacted. Prior to writing this we contacted them - this isn't laminate vs granite - it's poured concrete and a couple of guys. The estimator Martin said the price was the price (perhaps the fact the job was in Philly raised the cost - but 2.5K higher?) I found it interesting that the other two contractors, Luigi Carafa and Alfredo Siravo, were still both in my search list - but not these people. One thing to mention - the other two gave us phone quotes in 24 hours. We were emailed a very professional looking pdf doc from this company - but come on - that's just a drafted word document with plug-ins. Looks impressive but doesn't take much time. I recommend both Carafa and Siravo and will review them independently. So very disappointed - wanted so much to finally get some use out of my A List membership - so it goes.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide an estimate to perform concrete work on your home. Your estimate was performed on a Thursday evening and the proposal was sent to you on the following Monday. Our business offices are closed on weekends and the contract administrator emailed it to you within 2 business days. We send written proposals so that you know exactly what services and pricing you are receiving, whereas phone quotes can be misunderstood and are not in compliance with the Pennsylvania’s Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act (HICPA). Any consumers having work done on their home should educate themselves on the HICPA mandates that took effect on July 1, 2009 by visiting the state Attorney General's website. Our prices are not changed based on service area, they are based on materials and work performed by highly skilled craftsman with the highest level of training and all are OSHA certified. When the project was evaluated, it was our estimator’s professional opinion that the steps would not be stable enough for the repair because of the extensive sinking. It was apparent that the base material was too deteriorated to withhold the new concrete. Occasionally there may be cheaper options available and not all estimates are based on the same scope of work for the project. Our estimate was to provide a permanent fix to the issues with the sinking steps; it is likely that the other proposals did not include fixing the base material, providing a temporary fix that will only cause future sinking of the steps. When we provide a proposal, know that every facet of the project is carefully considered so that each job is priced for the highest quality workmanship. After you contacted our office 2 days after receiving the proposal, Martin again explained the concern with the steps sinking if the base was not properly reconstructed and he offered to come back to explain to you in person, which you refused. We’ve also had our commercial concrete specialist evaluate the project as well and he made the same determination as our residential estimator. We understand that there are indeed instances where we may not be the lowest bid; however we stand by our estimator’s opinion the extent of work needed to fix the steps correctly, included the removal and replacement of the deteriorating base. Given the opportunity in the future, we would be happy to provide multiple options for any project. If you inform an estimator of the exact specifications you have in other proposals they can then base it on the exact same scope of work. Regardless of what contractor you choose, we suggest that the base material is fixed as to provide a lasting solution. Jamison is a BBB highly rated, full service residential and commercial masonry restoration contractor that has been in business for 25 years. We strive to do the very best job for our customers on any project, large or small.

Called about a Chimney leak. I had high hopes for this company based on the reviews however they failed. At first contact, I spoke with a woman who was pleasant and scheduled the appointment for a week or so after the call. A day before the scheduled appointment, they had to cancel because of another job. Not a problem for me, I understand things happen. Showed up on time the following day. Looked over the chimney and said would contact about an estimate later or on the following Monday. On Wednesday, I emailed them looking for the estimate and finally received it Thursday. I also asked that the estimate be revised to include another service. I watned to have the chimney cap replaced and although I did get confirmation that they received my email and that Jim would get back to me. Jim never did. It appears my job was too small (around 2-3k) for their work. I do not feel that customers should wait 4 days for an estimate when it was obvious that I had a major chimney leak and needed it repaired quickly.

This initial estimate was scheduled within 3 days of your initial call; however it had to be rescheduled because we had an emergency structural repair come in to the office which needed to be performed immediately. The appointment was re-scheduled for the next day and we are glad you had a good experience with our scheduler. Thank you for your understanding of our need to handle an emergency call as they come into the office. We apologize for any inconvenience; please understand that by the nature of our business we prioritize our customers as they come in to our scheduling department, at busy times such as this summer, we appreciate the patience of our customers. Unless it is an emergency repair as explained to you, in which we make every effort to accommodate those people, all customers are treated as equals. As mentioned by you during your appointment, you knew of the leak when purchasing the home and have not moved in yet, therefore it was not presented to us as an emergency situation and there was no danger of structural collapse. Had it been so, we would have made every effort to accommodate you. Once the estimate was completed, which was on a Friday, the write up was then given to the contract administrator the next week to be drafted electronically and sent to you a few days later within the same week. As with our appointment schedule, our customers are treated in the order the estimates are completed and several others were being drafted as well. Jim had mentioned the proposal would be sent the next week and our estimators do not specify week days due to the volume of proposals being drafted. This may have been a misunderstanding since the appointment was on a Friday. When the repair was evaluated by the estimator, the chase cover was deemed in good shape and if it was installed when the house was built, is only 10 years old. The existing chase cover was in good shape as mentioned in the initial evaluation and was not deemed the source of the leak. Had it been the issue, your leak would have been in the family room, not your basement. Our apologies for not getting back to you to restate the satisfactory condition of the chase cover. If you had insisted on another estimate, a separate appointment would have been needed to measure for a new chase cover. Also, we would not assume that you had accepted the initial proposal unless it was signed and returned as approved; therefore we did not know you wanted to proceed with the work using our services. Please know that no job is too small or too large and we believe in treating all customers with respect and equality. Thank you for the opportunity to bid your project and we wish you luck with your new home.

2 years ago Jamison did a lot of work to a duplex I own. - roofing, brick-pointing, waterproofing etc. They were great. Reasonable price, great work, punctual, everything was great. 1 year ago I had a different problem. It took 2 months to get them to come out. Their representative (Lou) would not return calls, and would not show up for an appointment. Finally they did show up to patch and fix an area about 10 x 10. They charged $250. Last month I noticed a 5 foot length of "L" shaped aluminum trim, that capped where the walls met the flat roof, was missing. It must have blown off. This work was performed by Jamison the first time, 2 years ago. I was told that the repair was not covered because the warranty had expired. I was OK with this, and asked them to schedule the repair when in the area. Since it wasn't leaking, no rush. I myself could do it with a $5 can of tar, and a $2 piece of aluminum, but every year the roof gets higher and I'm getting shaky on a ladder. They scheduled the repair, and said the work would be $350. I said still come out, but have a manager call me because I feel the price was too high. They never showed up on the day that was promised. The next week the owner called and said the price might be less than $350, but not higher. I don't expect them to do it for free, but to maintain a repeat customer, I would have hoped they'd be more reasonable.

We appreciate your comments regarding the work we completed 2 years ago on your duplex. Regarding the work that was completed last year, the employee you mentioned is no longer with the company and you have our sincere apologies for the experience regarding the installation of the strip of aluminum. When the current repair was evaluated by the new estimator, our proposal was verbally discussed to replace the missing section of capping and to make sure all capping was secure and weather tight. We will use masonry fasteners to secure the capping to the substrate in addition to using a premium grade urethane sealant to caulk all of the seams tightly; tar would not be effective for this purpose. In regard to not showing up to do the work, our estimator explained we would not schedule the project until the proposal was drafted, signed as approved and returned. None of that took place because the price was still in question. Per your request, the owner contacted you a few days ago to explain our position and the lack of a warranty on the material; he agreed that we would do the work for a maximum of $350.00 so that if the project takes less time or materials than anticipated, any savings in cost would be passed back to you. The decision as to proceed was still up in the air after the conversation and you were informed that the proposal would be sent out to you via email as soon as it was drafted. Our estimator again contacted you to apologize for any confusion. Our contract administration sent you the proposal shortly thereafter. In order to schedule the project, the proposal that was recently sent to you must be signed and returned; without your written consent we could not schedule the project. If at any time you would like to have the work completed, please sign and return the proposal. Upon receipt we will be happy to have your project scheduled. We strive to do the very best job for our customers and appreciate your repeated business.

Great! They installed a full perimeter basement waterproofing system as stated in their quote. Dave came out and gave us estimate and explained the entire process to us. He was patient and answered all my concerns, especially since I am asthmatic. He returned my calls every time I had another question and he assured us they would do all they could do to eliminate the dust from the basement. They were very professional (they covered the door way and steps to avoid tracking the dust upstairs) , punctual, and courteous. The job was scheduled for three days and was completed in that time frame. The whole processed happened as Dave stated. We have dealt with water for many years and I only wish we did this sooner. I am happy we contacted Jamison Waterproofing. The price was right and although the system has not been tested by nature we are confident our water problem is solved thanks to Jamison.

They were great. They had good communication and everything was on time. They were very professional and courteous. I had to reschedule at one point and they had no problem with it.

I called for an estimate to fix a broken step and secure an outdoor handrail. They were prompt, and sent someone out right away, knowing that it was a home inspection, and time was of the essence. The man they sent was very polite and thought about different options. What I respected was that he was thinking of the most correct long-term solution that could be provided, which is what I would expect from a masonry company. In the end, I didn't go with the company, but I think they would be an option if you're looking for a quality fix instead of a quick patch.

These guys are great! They emailed me a picture and small bio of the technician who would be coming to look at my job, so I knew who I was opening the door for. My technician, Martin, was super professional, friendly, and gave me several options at different price points for the work I might need. Martin and another guy showed up exactly on time the day of the service, they were really quick, clean, friendly and efficient. Martin showed me an 'after' picture of the work they did on the chimney. I will definitely use them again!

We contacted two well known brick and mortar contractors in our area. Jamison's was some $3000 lower than the other estimate. We put down a deposit in January and waited until spring to have the work completed. There was some delay in the work but we were generally kept in the loop about when to expect the work to begin. I contacted the rep in June and we were put on the schedule. The guys that came to the house were great. They did really nice work, were courteous, careful and professional. The biggest issue we had was an increase of $2200 in cost associated with what was discovered after our old bricks were removed. The demolition was completed when the cost overrun was brought to our attention. We were left with what we felt was no choice but to proceed at a significant markup. Interestingly, the other proposal for the work had anticipated the discovered problem and had given us an estimate based on having worked issues associated with a house as old as ours. The cost overrun really hurt the experience but we are very pleased with the craftsmanship. I'd recommend and use them again with the understanding that estimate may be inaccurate.

We appreciate your comments and are happy you are pleased with the replacement of your brick steps and the experience with our staff. Although the change order was necessary for this project, we are very happy that we were still able to complete your project with the lowest price possible. When the project was evaluated it was our estimator’s opinion that the steps would be stable enough for the repair because he did not see any unlevel areas or sinking in the steps. Once the bricks were removed it became clear that the base material was too deteriorated and crumpling to the point it would not have been able to withhold the brick replacement. The other estimate you received made that assumption, however if the base were stable that would have been an additional cost which you did not need to incur. We try our best to fit things into our customer’s budgets and only do the work we see as necessary. We were also happy to provide the extra service of leveling the 140 brick to meet the height of the sunken existing patio at no cost to you. Given the opportunity in the future, we would be happy to provide multiple options for any projects. We strive to do the very best job for our customers. Thank you for your review and comments.

I was extremely impressed with the following: 1) communication - I was kept abreast of start date, weather delays etc, 2) professionalism and skill= 2 contractors came to site, explained job, any inconveniences(can't use front exit), courtesy and cleanliness-Jamie and Joe were quiet, used tarps, hosed down patios, neatly stacked bricks, and respected my property, 4) quality of work - steps are beautiful, are in sync w/ existing patio and walkway, and to township code in terms of rise. 5) no surprise additional costs Mike factored everything in ahead of time All contractors should have the work ethic Jamie, Joe and Mike exhibited = this is the way things should be done. I am totally satisfied, and very impressed with their work! I would recommend this crew and Jamison to Angie's top list of contractors - they deliver and then some!!!!!

They were very responsive...they came right out and provided an estimate after calling them the first time. It took a while for the work to actually get done due to bad weather, but that's not their fault. They were very courteous and professional and kept us informed every step of the way, and they did an excellent job. I recommend them highly, and we'll definitely call them the next time we need masonry work done.

The staff from Jamison Home Services transformed this project from a worrisome nuisance to a reassured walk in the park. They patiently addressed all of my neurotic concerns, were very conscientious about minimizing the mess of an innately messy job, and inspired confidence in both their knowledge of what needed to be done, as well as their willingness to do things correctly rather than cutting corners. They worked with integrity. The scope of our job expanded when we found the damage from a burst pipe had eroded our foundation. While this doubled the scope of work/time for the job, the revised estimate was fair, and they worked hard to complete the work within our short timeframe. I would absolutely recommend Jamison Home Services to my family and friends.
Description of Work: Dug out our 7x15 crawl space - 5 gallon bucket at a time. Installed cinder block to reinforce foundation around entire perimeter water damage had eroded the stone foundation away. Poured a cement floor and parged walls to finish the space.

I need my side alleyway cleaned up: removal of disgusting wet brick and debris, pouring of concrete, replacement of wood door). This also involved temporarily removing the AC unit and resetting it. I also wanted the front step of my house resealed with concrete. Martin Tray was friendly and punctual and asked me all the right questions during the estimate. He came on time and was in and out in 15 minutes. His numbers were over my expectations and I actually decided to go with another contractor. Knowing what I know - I would definitely consider him for future work but that is based solely on the pre-work interaction that I had with him.
