Jim was in steady contact with us from when we first met him to when he photographed the finished project. He was always professional and helpful. When it came closer to the time to build, we changed our mind several times and it was never an issue. His team built the deck in about 2 weeks. They were professional and respectful, and we love the finished product.
Description of Work: JRL built us a 16x30 deck out of Timberteck lumber.

They did a great job. Jim did the initial evaluation, but his carpenter, Fred, did the final mesaurements and design issues. They were able to accomodate my crazy work schedule, from arriving at 7 AM for measurements, to waiting until I could remove books, bookcases, etc., etc. from the room before installing. The work was done in a timely fashion and without any mess to the rest of the room. When Fred came for the final measurements and I saw the design, I changed my mind and wanted a cabinet flanking the window seat rather than more shelves. It was no problem. I love the final product and am using them to finish my basement.
Description of Work: I wanted to have built-in cabinet/bookcase on either side of a window seat. The original design was for 2 boocases flanking a window seat. I changed the design at the last minute to include bottom cabinets.

Jim responded very quickly and gave us an estimate. The work was started within two weeks. The carpenters were very professional and neat. The work was completed in a few days. The work was inspected and a few minor adjustments were made at our request. We are very satisfied and will definitely use JRL again.

I would say the whole project went very well from beginning to end. I am very satisfied and would use them again.
Description of Work: I needed them to modify an existing built-in cabinet to accommodate a flat screen T.V. and to build some shelves. Before doing the work, they came out to the house to look at the job. They took measurements of the space, listened well to what I wanted, and made suggestions of their own. I found them to be very mannerly and professional. After getting the estimate, I hired them for the job. When they worked in my house, they put down drop cloths and did the job very neatly. They cleaned up everything each day after completing that day's work. I was very pleased. After that portion of the job was done, I needed a painter to match the color and sheen of the rest of my wall unit. They sent a painter that they use exclusively. They matched the color perfectly, and you can't tell where the new work begins or ends. The painters were neat and careful as well, and cleaned up after each day's work.

I had to search for another sill repair company after the company I retained stopped work after I made a down payment. Jim called me and set up an appointment with his top carpenters to assess my job. He provided a quick and reasonable estimate. They started the project on time and were finished 1 day ahead of schedule. They were very tidy and the workmanship was consistent with my farm house detail.
Description of Work: Replaced 5 windows and repaired rotten windowsills either by replacing entire sill or patching small defects.

Jim LeBair responded quickly to my initial contact. Several others on Angie's List did not respond. He gave a frank, realistic account of things that might go wrong (due to age of the house), what it would take in time and cost if those worst case scenario items occurred. One contractor stated it could be done in a week or less! He did a "whole house" check for systems that would impact the project and that needed to be addressed. He strongly advised a modified electrical upgrade, which I initially balked at, but I'm glad I did it now. He gave useful recommendations on things I did not give thought to beforehand. I had to relocate for four weeks, but felt that my home was in good hands. Responsive to all inquiries for updates, whether by email or phone. Project was finished in time promised, and punch list items quickly fixed.

They were prompt, they were nice, and they did a good job. It was a small job that most companies or people were not willing to do. He said the price might be expensive, as it was a small thing, so we were braced for much worse. But I have nothing to compare it to as far as prices go.

JRL Design has been one of the best companies I have used to date. I was impressed with the professionalism, oversight and ability to hear what my vision was for the remodeling of 2 plus bathrooms. I am very pleased with the overall workmanship. I have a small master bath that is "to die for." James LeBair is a soft spoken, very professional person who is easy to speak with and works with you to get the job done. He has a wonderful foreman/overseer who does not let anything go if not done to specification. All necessary paperwork, insurance, etc. is part and parcel of what Jim does. I cannot say enough about the fine quality work. It was a pleasure to have them do the work and I would most certainly use JRL Design again. Do go over all the work that has to be done from start to finish. JRL was masterful at this going over all the fine details. Also, don't be afraid to say what you want and how you want it to look. You have to live with it.
Description of Work: Remodeled two plus baths and some general contracting work. The bathrooms were torn down to bare walls. All plumbing, lighting, painting, tile work, fittings, etc. were included in the job.

I hired JRL Design to finish my basement, which started from an empty space. They were very helpful every step of the way, including overall design of the space to maximize utility, finishing, etc. The whole project included installation of the required egress well and window, framing and drywall for four rooms, electrical & lighting, drop and drywall ceilings, HVAC, paint, a custom wet bar, window seat and closet. I appreciated the team's flexibility as the requirements for my home theater room were above and beyond standard construction methods and materials. Their ability to adapt to my requirements was impressive.

As part of an overall basement finishing project with JRL Design, we wanted to have a walk-up wet bar installed. Initially, my plan was to purchase pre-made cabinets at the local home improvement store. After discussing with Jim, it was determined that they would be able to design and build a custom unit exactly to my specifications that fir the area perfectly. The project included a sink, built-in refrigerator with ice maker, granite countertop, and upper cabinets with glass doors. In the end, I couldn't be happier. The quality of the fit & finish of the bar is far beyond what I would have been able to purchase off-the-shelf.

Overall the experience was positive. There were a couple of issues, one of which has yet to be resolved. The issue was an error on the final invoice, which I didn't catch until after I paid it - the final invoice listed the original contract amount incorrectly, and I have reached out to him for a refund of the overpayment. There is also at least one other small discrepancy which I'm hoping to resolve as well, but my experience so far has been that Jim is quite amenable to working out any differences in a courteous and professional manner. Once this is resolved, the B for the price should be changed to an A. Jim's crew was courteous and professional and the work is really fantastic. They gutted the bathroom and found some plumbing problems for which they called in a plumber and fixed. It turned out that they needed to remove a bit of my family room ceiling and they did it quickly and replaced it beautifully! Then the tile was installed and the tile guy that he used forgot to inform us that we shouldn't go in the bathroom (he said he told our son...which I thought was a poor choice). We opened our bathroom door and a bunch of the tiles were askew, and the next day we were told we'd be charged for this problem. After several emails with Jim, we decided to split the $200 additional charge and we felt that Jim handled it very graciously. It was definitely poor communication on the tile installer's part (he should have put a note up or something!). Finally the cabinetry was installed and the last loose ends were tied up. I submitted payment on Friday and noticed the discrepancy in the original invoice and the final invoice and alerted Jim via voice mail. I expect that he will be timely and responsive to our request.
Description of Work: We had our bathroom completely redone. The bathroom was gutted completely, and plumbing damage was repaired, and then the bathroom was completely refinished with a custom vanity, medicine cabinet, and storage shelf.

Jim's crew arrived on time every day; cleaned up every day to make our house livable. The guys were very easy to get along with. They listened to my suggestions and make several of their own, which was very helpful. The design of the cabinetry was just what we wanted. Jim seemed to know what we had in mind before the work was even started. He made sure the work was going well-checked in at the site and by telephone and email to make sure we were satisfied with everything. It was a real pleasure to deal with Jim and his carpenters. We got a beautiful, custom designed entertainment cabinet.

Overall the project went off without a hitch. There was always communication and any problems or concerns were solved easily. I will absolutely have JRL Design back for my next project.
Description of Work: JRL Design installed cabinetry and shelving in our den. They custom designed every inch of the room, providing expert advice on granite choices, finish colors, entertainment components, and mantel design. They provided unlimited options for molding choices, door design, and hardware. Our den is truly the focal point of our house, and we are incredible pleased with the craftsmanship of the work. The workers were always professional and prompt and made certain we were happy with the project. Like any project, the den overflowed into other work. JRL Design also upgraded some of our windows and doors in the house which we were also very pleased with.

JRL Design is a pleasure to deal with. The estimates were both reasonable and realistic. There was no hard sell on higher priced windows or doors, and Jim did a great job of staying within our budget. We actually came in under the estimate on two of the three jobs. We found Jim's staff to be respectful and helpful, asking the appropriate questions at all times, and actually allowing me to be able to work at home during the renovations. My husband is a stickler for detail and workmanship, and he was very pleased with the quality of work performed, and the speed with which is was completed. They left the work site very clean at the end of each workday. It was a positive experience from start to finish.
Description of Work: We hired JRL Design to install new raised panels doors on our second floor, and French doors in our first floor office. The work went so well, that after getting several estimates, we also hired them to install new Anderson windows through the entire house, including the addition of a bay window and additional window in the master bedroom.

Jim and his crew are professional and knowledgeable. While the job was slightly overbid on the excavation (they were our highest bidder of 3), the proposal was detailed and easy to understand what we would be getting. JLR subcontractors were friendly and worked fast. There was some delay on the finishing end with a handrail requirement from the township and some communications back and forth due to a family emergency with the contractor, but all was explained and handled even during a difficult time. We felt like they were trying to take care of the job. Not only would we use him again, but we have already accepted his bid for a job on our stucco and concrete front entry.

I contacted JRL Design based on reviews on Angie's List, and spoke with owner Jim Lebair about the project I had in mind. He was very responsive and set up a time and date to meet and review my requests. Jim is very personable and knowledgeable and helped talk me through the renovation plans for my 1970' era home. After reviewing his proposal and comparing to others, the decision to choose JRL Design was easy. Jim's crew was extremely professional, polite and (most of all) very kind to our dog. They arrived on time, kept me informed of their progress and made very helpful suggestions. Overall, the project was very well managed, stayed on budget and was completed within the time frame agreed upon. Best of all, the results exceeded my expectations, (not an easy task). Amazingly, things went very smoothly from start to finish, especially when considering the size of the project. On time, on budget and beautiful results...I couldn't ask for more.
Description of Work: Remodeled basement, including drywall and closed space. Completely gutted and installed new hall bathroom. Replaced vanity, sink and toilet in powder room. Designed and installed bookcases and cabinets in family room and living room. Installed chair rail and crown molding throughout home. Installed new floor in kitchen. Painted entire interior of home. Prior to Jim arriving, I had already planned the layout of my basement. When Jim came by, we walked the basement and I explained my plans. Jim re-checked my measurements and together we made any necessary adjustments. Jim confirmed a few code items with the township office and then scheduled work to be started. The crew was great. They showed up every day as expected. They were friendly and always stopped to chat with our little boy. At the end of every work day, the basement was swept and tools were organized. In addition, they often let us know how the work was progressing and what we could expect over the next few days. During the project, we made a few changes to the scope. Jim clearly outlined the adjustments to the price and waited for our approval before implementing. From the beginning, everything we agreed to was committed to paper. Jim and I often communicated via email which was perfect for us. We were leaving for a week's vacation towards the end of the project. Jim and his crew made sure that the basement was complete prior to us leaving for vacation.

Jim was very professional and gave me lots of info on decking materials but never pressured me to pick a specific one. He also informed me about the new building codes regarding basement requirements which had changed since I bought the townhouse). I finally decided to go with egress window now. Jim answered all my (and my father's questions). All work was done on time and if there was a change, Jim e-mailed or called me. The work areas were kept neat and when the work was finished, cleaned up.
Description of Work: JRL did my deck and a basement egress window (needed for code when I finish the basement) on my townhouse. Eventually built deck (12 feet by 16 feet) and basement egress window. Deck surface is mahogany with cedar posts and white vinyl railing.

JRL was very creative from the outset, something that was very important to me. They helped create a media cabinet with roll out drawers, adding venting and other customizations as we went, and created a toy chest in another unit, putting fake drawers on the front to match it to a parallel unit with drawers. From the start, they were friendly, courteous, and professional in all interactions. If changes in approach were necessary, they were discussed and everyone was very flexible. They were as careful in our home as they'd be in their own, cleaning everything before they left each day. Their commitment to doing the job right shows in the quality of their work. The workers are the same people every day (many of them related, to each other or the contractor), and the contractor came by nearly every day to check on progress. We thoroughly enjoyed the process of having this work done, and done by JRL; my daughter still asks, "Where Mr. Nick is (one of the carpenters)?" A+ outfit.
Description of Work: JRL Design built customized cabinets, shelves, and window seat/drawers and storage across our living room wall, surrounding our fireplace. They also installed lights that shine on our windows and on the bookshelves, as well as putting four recessed lights in our living room. These lights were all a new installation. They painted everything, including patching and repainting all installation-related cuts in our ceiling.

The project went well, overall. Jim worked with us from beginning to end. He assisted us with the design, picking out cabinets, picking out countertop, etc. Made suggestions on where to purchase all items needed to complete out project. Jim's crew was great to work with they kept us informed of each step and where we were. Had lots of good suggestions as we did each step. Was willing to work with you on items that you felt needed to be corrected. Basically they did a wonderful job and I would definitely recommend them. They always kept us up to date and we never felt like we were left hanging. We love our new kitchen! We are very pleased with everything!
Description of Work: We remodeled our kitchen. We did not have much counterspace or cabinets. JRL assisted us with designing a new kitchen that would have lots of cabinets and counterspace. They gutted the existing kitchen and started from scratch. We had all new cabinets, countertops, backsplash, sink, faucet and flooring installed. We had a dishwasher, an above the stove microwave and a garbage disposal added. Baseboard heat was removed and a kick plate heater installed. The whole kitchen was remodeled from top to bottom.

This was a very positive experience from beginning to end. Jim came to our house in the evening and carefully reviewed our ideas and what he thought would be possible. He came up with some creative solutions to some particularly thorny challenges. He provided a thorough and detailed estimate, including precisely where he thought there could be problems and how they would be resolved. The guys who did the work were incredibly talented and respectful of our property. When details did not appear to be going in a direction that we wanted, everyone was very quick to adjust plans and accommodate our needs. Our basement is now our favorite room in the house. They truly did great work. This is not the cheapest company, but they are honest, reliable and talented. I am sure any extra money spent was saved in piece of mind and the quality of the outcome. Also, we were simultaneously converting our heating system, and so the heating company had to work in the same space - no problems.
Description of Work: Our basement had flooded and had to be completely gutted. Jim Lebair's group created a family from scratch including foam insulation, drywall, built-in cabinets, and pre-wiring for an entertainment system.
