We were very happy with our whole experience with JRL design. In the planning phase Jim helped us to brainstorm ways to do what we wanted with our bathroom and still stay within a workable budget. He steered us toward suppliers for bathroom fixtures, ceramic tile, and granite who were all wonderful in helping us figure out what would work best for our bathroom. We had many different workers coming in through the course of the project and we were quite please both with the work they performed as well as in their professional manner. They were also all extremely patient, kind and good natured about a constant audience of 3 young children asking questions and having to step over 2 sleeping dogs who invariably were right in the way and not inclined to move. I was impressed as well with how thoughtful they were at the end of each work day not only in making sure things were tidied up, but also being mindful of leaving things so that they would not be unsafe for the children and pets. All in all, we were very pleased with our experience and we will certainly use them next time we have a project that needs doing.
Description of Work: We had our bathroom entirely redone - demolished down to the studs. They ran all new plumbing/electrical wires and repaired structural damage to the floor and wall from an old leak. We had new tub/sink/toilet installed, switching the locations of the sink and toilet. The tub walls and floor were done beautifully in tile. They built wood cabinets for a sink vanity and a set of matching cabinets for the space above the mirror. The vanity top was done in granite with an undercounter sink and matching granite was used for a large window ledge and a small shelf in the tub area. The walls and ceiling were done with drywall and painted.

Jim and his team were very easy to work with right from the design stage through project completion. Whilst not the cheapest (or most expensive) quote, we were keen to work with Jim from the first meeting due to the confidence that they would do a professional and thorough job. This confidence was well justified as they have done an exellent job. Jim and the team keep a constant dialogue with us to update us on plans and also went out of our their way to ensure our needs were met, providing excellent and constructive advice along the way. Throughout all stages of the project they worked both efficiently and to a high quality standard. Overall we have been very pleased from start to finish and our project was in very capable and honest hands.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodelling which included intial designs for a number of possible options, removal of a structurally supporting wall, demolition of the existing kitchen, movement of existing services and utilities, laying new flooring, installing cabinets and appliances including granite work tops and painting/decorating.

We called for an estimate and they repsonded promptly. Jim submitted an estimate and we worked through the design together. Jim had us out to his workshop so we could see, firsthand, the type of craftsmanship they produce. We were very impressed with Jim and his staff. We worked with them closely as the design developed and we are very happy with the end result.
Description of Work: Jim LeBair provided detailed estimates and re-worked the plan efficiently as our design evolved. The staff were always puctional, professional, experienced and always aimed to make sure we were pleased with what was going on. They are total craftsmen and their work is meticulous.
We had a wonderful experience with JRL Design. Jim was approachable, responsive, helpful, professional and delivered high quality work. One thing that stood out to us was how quickly Jim responded to calls/emails. From the very beginning, he was in touch frequently to get the project off the ground. Once the project was underway, I always felt our house was in excellent hands. Jim was also very honest and upfront about all aspects of the project, which was very refreshing (especially in this industry). He always had our budget in mind and would offer alternatives to stay within this budget. Jim stayed involved throughout the entire project, stopping in frequently to check on the progress and touch base. Our experience with JRL Design was truly outstanding and we recommend them highly!
Description of Work: We had a garage remodeled into a laundry/office area (including major repair to a leaking flat roof). This also included exterior house painting and an outside brick path/landscaping modification.

The guys again did a fantastic job and Jim was great to work with. This is the second job they've done for me and I will definately use them in the future for other projects.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced 5 single windows thoughout the house. Also installed one double hung window. Windows by Pella. A new entry door was also installed at rear of my house.
Overall it went well. There were some delays in getting the window in from Pella but once it was in the job was done timely. There were a few loose ends but those were fixed up very quickly. They were very responsive after the greenhouse was removed to quickly get in and frame out the window to allay any security concerns that I had.
Description of Work: Removal of a French door to a previous greenhouse was replaced with a Pella window. Built a knee wall and installed a granite surface to create a desk area.
This is the second major remodeling job on my house by JRL Design. As in the previous job, Jim LeBair stepped me through all of the details, from design and layout to choosing the materials. His office and workshop are well-stocked with samples of cabinets, hardware, flooring, granite so that making choices was easy. If he didn't have what I wanted, he pointed me in the direction of other suppliers who did. Once the selections were made and the work scheduled, I could count on Marty and his crew to arrive on time, get the work done professionally, clean up after themselves and complete the work on time. Any adjustments needed were taken care of with no problem. The end result was outstanding and better than I had imagined. The windows and new patio doors were installed perfectly and have helped tremendously in keeping the house appropriately warm or cool, as well as cut down on noise from the street. The new bathroom, including tile and glass throughout, is beautiful. The vanity cabinets and drawers were custom made by JRL Design craftsmen. When all was said and done, there were no details missed. Once again, I'm a happy customer.
Description of Work: Replaced all windows and patio door with Pella windows and doors. Gutted existing bathroom, enlarged footprint and built new master bath, including large tiled shower, granite topped vanity with custom cabinets/drawers and tile throughout. Built new closet in adjoining bedroom to accommodate space taken for new bathroom.
Their work and attention to detail was excellent. From beginning to end, there was always open honest communication including some changes that kept my wife happy. Besides having a wonderful new living area, the second best part was the detail that was put into every aspect including cleaning up at the end of the day. You could not find a speck of dust left behind when they were finished.
Description of Work: JRL designs converted our unfinished basement to a comfortable living area. Jim and his crew completed a full renovation from the addition of perimeter french drains to finished drop ceiling. They provided us with multiple options and professional opinions which always turned to be the best decision.
With every major home renovation, the owner goes through the exhaustive process of outlining needs, desires, style and functionality. Then getting this into a working plan with a price that's fair, takes a huge amount of faith. We were fortunate to work with the ultimate professional who heard our needs, guided our ideas and respectfully worked with us to create a truly win-win outcome. The quality of the craftsmanship is of an era gone by. Our major home renovation has importantly stood the test of time. It looks as good now as it did 3 yrs ago when it was first done. Every crossroad in design was well thought through. Our deference to JRL with their knowledge and experience served us well at many difficulty decisions. More importantly, as problems arise down the road, especially renovations of existing spaces, JRL stands by his work and that of every sub. We had an issue with in ceiling high-hats in a very shallow ceiling over our 2nd kitchen sink. We needed to change to a tract-type lighting option due to physical constraints. This was done seamlessly and expeditiously. The painter was brought in to redo the entire ceiling and "oh by the way, if you'd like him to touch up any areas in the house, just let me know" We loved the work so much, we rehired JRL to do a huge elevated deck project that again, exceeded our expectations. Professional subs that JRL works with have continued to do additional projects including slate patio, pointing, fieldstone garden walls etc. Each and every job has that "quality look". You may find a contractor as good, but never more responsive, respectful and a true joy to know.
Description of Work: 2 major jobs: 1. Single family home remodel including: kitchen, ceramic and hardwood floors, custom cabinetry, doors, painting, drywall, lighting, electrical, integrated control sound system, fireplace install, HVAC system, opening walls and rerouting duct work. 2. Huge wrap around 2nd floor deck that sits above a walk out basement equipped with lighting, sound system, custom integrated masonry.

We had a fantastic (like so many others) experience with JRL Design. The owner, Jim Lebair inspired confidence from our very first interaction. JRL Design will NOT be your cheapest option but it will most definitely be your BEST option. JRL can do any and every remodeling project with precision, strong follow through and quality workmanship. We decided to hire JRL to remodel our master bathroom after Jim and Chris came to our house, and then came back with a well thought out plan to best use our limited space. Jim was able to use software to show us exactly how the plan, if executed, would look. In the end, we were sold by Jim's professionalism and creativity and were convinced he would do a fantastic job. What separates JRL Design from other contractors is their attention to detail and willingness to work hand in hand with their client. My wife and I are very difficult to work with and even more difficult to please. Throughout the process, Jim never once flinched when we made requests and/or changes to the plan. Furthermore, when we had a few bumps in the road (which are bound to happen during a major renovation), Jim was responsive and communicative keeping our minds at ease. We are convinced that very few contractors could have handled us our our home remodeling project with the aplomb that Jim did. Our bathroom turned out fantastic. It is exactly what we wanted, complete with handmade cabinets and mirrors. The best part though, is that the project was completed on time without the typical uneasiness that accompanies such a large remodeling project. We highly recommend JRL design for any project in your home. We will be utilizing their services again in the near future for our next major renovation.
Description of Work: JRL Design completely remodeled an existing master bathroom. They took the old bathroom down to studs, designed the new bathroom, built cabinets and mirrors and rebuilt the new bathroom according to agreed upon specs.

Not good and this is not the way to start the process with a potential client especially in this bad economy.
Description of Work: I telephoned company to request an estimate for bathroom remodel. Asked for quick estimate since I was getting three estimates over the holidays and would make a decision the first of the year. Owner left message saying to call him to arrange. We agreed to a date for estimate and I asked only that he keep the date since another contractor had cancelled with little notice. His employee left voicemail Christmas Eve trying to firm up the time for 12/28. I called him and left voicemail saying anytime on 12/28 was good except for a three hour period. He left voicemail message saying 12/28 was not so good but 12/29 would be better and agreed to call me on 12/28 to set a time. He did not recontact me until morning of 12/29 saying he had a family situation to deal with on 12/28. I asked why the boss did not handle the call back or estimate in his absence and I was told he was on vacation. I told him to disregard the estimate since problems this early in the process could only continue to go downhill.

Response from CHR Home Services, Inc.
JRL Design's most important goal is our attention to High Quality Customer Service and Work Performed. Having received the 2009 Super Service Award in Twelve (12) different categories attests to this goal! Upon first contact with the member, we informed him that we had appointment dates that were out about 10 days because of the high demand for our quality work. He requested to move the date up. We squeezed him in an earlier time slot. My salesman called him to confirm and the member said he was not able to keep the original time and he canceled the appointment himself. We would have been glad to re-schedule at his convenience if he has wished but he did not. Please be assured that we take extreme efforts in communicating with our customers, setting realistic appointments and completion times, and insure that the final product exceeds our customer's expectation. We are truly blessed with all the work we are given.

the work was very well done. It was completed in a timely manner. The room was always clean after each days work and at the end of the job. Everyone was very professional and courteous. Jim was very helpful and offered suggestions. I am very pleased with the finished product. I am currently planning on having my kitchen cabinets and kitchen island replaced and I would not consider anyone other than Jim's company to do the job. He and his team are completely trustworthy.
Description of Work: I had new bathroom cabinet which was made by Jim's team. I also had lighting fixture installed and a new toilet installed. They also installed a mirror over the bathroom cabinet with a custom made frame to match the cabinet.
We used JRL Design in the past to remodel our basement. We liked them so much we had them back to remodel the kitchen. They were very professional throughout the process and the new kitchen looks wonderful.
Jim was great. He walked me through everything and presented options on all my design changes. He was always up front about pricing options. I never felt pressured (while this is not the first time I worked with Jim, this was the first really big home improvement project I did). Jim had no problem talking to me or my father about basement ideas/options, and answered all our questions. His crew were great, and at the end of the day the basement was left neat (no matter what stage of construction it was in). Overall an A+ on refinishing the basement.
Description of Work: Finished my basement complete with bar/mini-kitchen, bathroom, gym, and storage area. The kitchen area has maple cabinets with interior lighting, glass shelves and windows. The countertop is granite. There is also a small bar sink and refrigerator. The bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower. Bathroom and kitchen area tiled, and the rest carpeted. I also had a small area set aside for a gym (treadmill and weights).
Due to the additional work we had done in our main (and at the time ONLY) bathroom, the project took longer than it normally would have. JRL first installed most of the new bathroom so we had a working toliet, they then took out the existing toliet/sink and fixed the floor. So we always had a working toliet, which was important with a toddler at home. For the most part, though, the crew stayed on track with the original schedule they had laid out. If it had just been the new bathroom install, it would have been very speedy. Jim did a nice job planning out the new bathroom and thinking of all the details. The work was done very professionally and everything was very nice quality. Jim was responsive, as was Nick, the on site man. As I mentioned, they did a nice job saving our existing carpet and protecting our house -- they cleaned up nicely at the end of the day. The electrician was able to fix a few small things in our main bathroom, as well as running the new wiring to the third floor. Overall, we are very happy with the work that was done, and we feel like we have two new bathrooms.
Description of Work: We had a completely new bathroom (shower stall, sink, toliet, medicine cabinet) installed in a room on our third floor. This included framing out the room, putting up the dry wall, running all the plumbing, running the electric, new flooring, installing shower, sink, toliet etc. The bathroom was placed in a corner of a large existing bedroom, and they were very good about gently peeling back our existing carpet and saving it, so we didn't have to replace the carpet. We also had repairs done to the floor in our main bathroom (the toliet had a leak, and the floor had rotted, making the toliet very wobbly.) We then had new linoleum put down on the second floor and had our sink top, cabinet and linen closet replaced. We had some additional minor electrical work done in the main bath: we had the light switched moved from the hallway to the interior and the ballast replaced on the large hallogen overhead light. They also replaced our medicine cabinet and vanity light. In both cases, we had JRL make the new cabinets, which all turned out very lovely.

From start to finish, we were very pleased!!! Jim came up with a comprehensive estimate for us and was really willing to work with us on the finer points. He was responsive with email (a huge plus in our book, as we both work full time, and don't have time for long phone conversations), and always let us know the updated timeline, as needed. The work was top quality, and we had no complaints. I would absolutely suggest contacting Jim and his team.

Outstanding. Jim Lebair, President, personally follows through and meets all commitments above and beyond expectations!! His staff is very professional and perform work with the highest of quality.
Description of Work: basement remodelling, home theater, lighting, basement built in cabinets and shelving, master bedroom closet cabinetry
The job was done on time. The workmen - tile installer, carpenters- were professional, honest, and always prompt. I was very comfortable giving them the keys to my house and was comfortable being in the house with them. They took my ideas and made them a reality. We were so pleased with the work and the result that we've just hired JRL Design to do a complete renovation of our downstairs bathroom.
Description of Work: I had a bathroom installed a few years ago with another contractor. The grout between the shower tiles had holes, despite two separate "re-dos", and a broken tile was installed. We could not use the shower. JRL Design came in and took the shower back to the studs and installed new tile. We also changed out the floor tile. The tile vendor JRL recommended had a great selection and great prices. We also had new doors, baseboards, and window sills and molding installed throughout our upstairs.
They did a fantastic job. Earlier in the year, I had some foundation repairs done on my home. As a result, my downstairs rec room was torn apart. One of the recommendations by the engineer, who worked on foundation was to reinforce the front wall. JRL was able to that first and then they came up with great ideas for the rest of the project and the result was better than I could ever have imagined. I am so pleased. These guys are real pros. The room looks completely new and the new windows and shutters give the house such an improved look. My family loves it!
Description of Work: This was a Rec-room project. Removed old drywall, installed new drywall. Scraped, spackled and taped on walls with shown damage. Re-insulated front wall. Supplied and installed recessed lights with new circuit. Supplied and installed 3 double-hung Pella Proline Series Windows in rec-room and 2 bedrooms. Also installed one 3 wide, Pella double hung picture window in Living Room. Leveled area in rec-room with self leveler.

We browsed for contractors using the Angie's List website and selected 5 contractors based on the amount of positive reports. Only 3 of the contractors made the effort to schedule onsite free estimates. The other 2 actually had the nerve to ask us to come to their facility! ...Bzzzt! Wrong answer...you just lost the job! Of the 3 remaining contractors, JRL Design, Inc. had the lowest proposal (and that included Pella doors!). Initially, the man that came to give us the estimate took a lot of measurements but didn't sit down with us to review options. I was put off by this approach (different than the other 2 contractors) and said "Well...we'll never use these guys...they don't seem like they have it together!" I couldn't have been more wrong!!! The man that took the measurements was actually Nick, the owner's right-hand carpenter. The owner (Jim LeBair) then followed up Nick's measurement visit with brochures of various entry and storm doors for us to choose. Jim then presented us with a very attractive proposal which we agreed to and scheduled the work. As I look back now, Nick is an "old school" carpenter and that his attention to detail made our job go very smoothly. Needless to say, we are very happy with our new doors and feel that JRL Design, Inc. took a personal approach to completing the work. They responded immediately with resolving the few punch-list items that I had after the doors were installed and cleaned up the job site perfectly. Nick and the other 2 workers even took time to interact with our 19-month old daughter. She remembers them and still says "Nick!" when asked who installed the doors! We will definitely consider JRL Desgin, Inc. for our next home projects. Thumbs up!!!
Description of Work: Front and rear entry doors were replaced with new steel doors. We also had the front storm door and Florida room storm door replaced with Pella storm doors.
In the summer of 2009, we contracted with JRL Design to remodel our kitchen and laundry room. This was a total demolition project and I must say, we were extremely happy with Mr. Lebair?s work. His crew planned the project carefully so as to minimize the inconvenience of being without a kitchen for a period of time. They worked in stages, demolishing the laundry room first and beginning on its completion before the kitchen was ever touched. I believe we were without a washer/dryer for only one day. Since Mr. Lebair?s company makes their own cabinets, they did not begin any demolition until the cabinets were ready to go for the laundry room. Same timeline for the kitchen. We did not sit around with an empty kitchen while we waited for cabinets, appliances, or flooring to be purchased or completed. Once this job started, there was never a day without work. From the plumber, to the electrician, to the floor company, they all worked seamlessly around each other. Jim?s project manager was on site each day and was always reachable by phone. We?re picky. From a tiny nick on an edge, a miniscule mark on a floor plank, or a cabinet handle that was off by about 1/32 of an inch, each small detail was addressed and corrected. JRL Design was a real pleasure to work with and our remodel was complete in about six weeks! I know we?ll call Jim again when we decide to move forward with other remodeling plans.
Description of Work: Total kitchen/laundry room remodel. Complete demo with new cabinets, lighting, flooring, counters, and appliances.

My husband had a brain stroke and the step from our back door was higher than normal so we decided to add a deck w/roof onto the back of the house, I called three contractors for quotes; Jim was very prompt in answering our phone call. Jim came to our home, sat with my husband and myself wanting to know what kind of deck we wanted and all the other small things that would be enjoyable having a outside living area. He had his lead carpenter come out, take measurements, answered all our questions. In a weeks time, Jim had a estimate/proposal and explained all the procedures that would be involved. Jim's team did all the necessary paperwork involved with submitting drawings, filing for work orders, change orders, etc. After all the paperwork, it took Jim's team not quite three weeks to build a complete deck with a roof, enclosed ceiling, recessed lighing, handrails at two locations, one coming in from the driveway and one coming/going to the yard. It is awesome!!! We have a beautiful outdoor living area that we will be able to enjoy year round. When my husband (from the brain stroke, he has end stage renal which means he is on dialysis three times a week) comes home from dialysis, he enjoys sitting in our outdoor living area and feeling the breezes, watching the birds, and just enjoying our back yard. We've already had friends over and they had nothing to say but "Who did this, I want their number!!. They absolutey loved the workmanship of the deck. Through JRL, we are having our windows and doors replaced. Can't wait.
Description of Work: 14' x 14' foot deck that would be level with the top step of our back door. Deck with roof, enclosed ceiling with recessed lights.. Widening of sidewalk from deck to garage, replacing cellar doors with new Bilco cellar doors; replaced roof over basement stairs.
