I did finally convince Ron to reduce the bill by $290 and paid him a balance of $2000 instead of the expected $1500. In retrospect, Ron Boscia does good work, for the most part. He just charges too much, takes too long & can t handle customer feedback and criticism. I will look elsewhere to repair the remaining 8 furniture pieces.
Description of Work: Ron Boscia is a perfectionist who will spend lots of time (and your money) to restore your damaged furniture. I began a 14 month adventure when I asked Ron to give me a repair estimate on 12 pieces of furniture that had been damaged in an overseas move with the US Army. Preparation of the estimate cost me over $250 and the individual repair costs looked pretty high, but I asked Ron to repair four of the larger damaged pieces anyway, because I would claim the charges with the US Army for reimbursement. Ron picked up the furniture on 24 August 2007 and I advanced him $1500 under his terms of, "50% at onset of restoration, balance due upon completion," as stated on his invoice. The invoice also stated that the work would begin earliest the 1st week of September 2007 and be completed within 3-7 weeks. As it turned out, the total job took almost one year when he returned the last piece on August 15 2008! Repair of a broken leg on a coffee table cost $366 and took 22 weeks. Repair of a broken arm & pediment removal on a couch cost $2100 and took 31 weeks. Repair of two broken arms on a couch cost $826 and took 49 weeks. Repair of a fabric knife cut and refinishing two wooden hand rests on a wing chair cost $498 and took 51 weeks. (Ron didn't charge for the refinishing, thanks Ron). Ron never kept me informed of how long his work would take & I felt that my furniture was being held hostage. When I send my claim to the US Army (and they subsequently talked to Ron), the US Army informed me that customary charges for such work were one-half to one-third of what Ron Boscia was charging me. After all, I had paid $250 for those estimates, except for one. Ron had estimates $2511 to repair my couch which had a broken arm in two places and a wooden pediment that had broken into a dozen pieces. To save money, I asked Ron not to repair that pediment and make that area of the couch appear that the pediment never existed. He agreed to change the work buy never gave me an estimate for the new work. I assumed that it would be $1500 because that was what he asked for as a 50% down payment on the invoice, this would be the balance. Instead, he charged me $2100. To further complicate this, I was not satisfied with the work because it was still obvious where the pediment had been after he did the work. When I pointed this out, he became belligerent and threatened to sue me if I didn t pay the total amount. He pointed out that in the STANDARD TERMS AND CONDITIONS on the back of the invoice (in fine print) were some interesting clauses. Translating them from legal-speak, they are: 1. Nothing Ron tells you (and he tells you a lot) means anything, because if it isn t written on the invoice, it never happened. 2. Once your furniture is returned and crosses the threshold of your home, you have agreed to accept Ron s work. 3. Only Ron determines if his work is acceptable to you. Wow, talk about consumer protection or lack of (?).

This company has a very large back-log of pieces of furniture to be refinished and repaired, probably because of their reputation for its high quality. They have an approach to give me a very detailed estimate that provided me with some options. Because this was an usual piece, creating the estimate took a lot of time. However, once we agreed on a plan, they were able to complete the work within two weeks, which was a huge surprise.
Description of Work: The company repaired several parts of an antique armoire assessed more than ten years ago at $9,500. This included replacing several small pieces that had cracked; re-nailed several quarter-round pieces, replacing three wooden pieces on the floors of the lower part of the item and refinishing the outside of the lower part of the item.

Chairs needed 100% stripping, sand blasting, wicker repair and new paint. Ron and his team took extra care, including hours of between the wicker hand sanding, to restore and beautifully paint these chairs. The chairs were completed within 60 days which I felt was pretty reasonable considering the amount of work and time needed. Their price is slightly high, but the quality and passion they put into their work is worth it!
Description of Work: Stripped, restored and applied new painted surface to 2 large antique wicker chairs.

Ron and his team took great care and expertise to restore an old, but structurally sound wicker sofa. Ron is truly passionate about his work, and he's honest and upfront about the expectations of the finished product. Ron quoted approx. 7 weeks for completion, but took 9 weeks - due to a death in his family. He's not the least expensive, but it's quality work that will last. The sofa has been in my family for +40 years and is now ready for the next 40 years! It looks fantastic.
Description of Work: Stripping and painting large wicker sofa. The sofa was sand blasted, stripped, repaired, primed, then hand/spray painted.
