Vince from VIP gave me an estimate for the installation of a 3 ton system (with ductwork since I have radiators), and a 2.5 ton system, which he said would require the installation of an attic fan. Vince said this would be a better option because it would cost less upfront and cost lest to in cooling costs. He installed the 2.5 ton system, then had to come back to install a couple more vents downstairs, for an additional $367, since it was 5-7 degrees different than upstairs. This didn't help enough, so I ordered the needed parts and installed another vent and moved one of the ones that Vince installed (because I didn't want to have to pay another $367). This helped. If installed correctly, Unico boasts that their system provides very even cooling; only one or two degree difference in any two rooms. As I started to use the system more, I quickly realized it was taking hours to reduce the temperature by just 1 or 2 degrees, even when the outside temperature was in the upper 70's to low 80's. Some days it ran nonstop from 9:30am to 9:30pm when the outside temperature was in the mid 80s (and the thermostat was set at 76). I couldn't get it to drop to 75. Vince came back and checked everything out. He said the system was performing appropriately. Then he asked me when I had the ridge vent installed in my roof. I told him it was there since before I purchased the house. He said he didn't notice it when he made his recommendation for the 2.5 ton system and the attic fan. He told me the attic fan wouldn't work properly with a ridge vent. It won't allow the air to circulate from the eves and therefore wouldn't cool the attic properly, which in turn causes the A/C to struggle to cool the house. He even mailed printouts to me from the website of the attic fan maker, which detailed the information he was telling me. His recommendation was to have the ridge vent blocked from the inside to solve the problem. So I asked him when he could come over and block the ridge vents. He insisted that it wasn't his responsibility since he subcontracted out the installation of the attic fan, even though he was the HVAC professional who recommend a 2.5 ton system with an attic fan, and he was the one who installed a 2.5 ton system. I have since obtained opinions from two reputable HVAC professionals who informed me that the problem is the A/C system that Vince installed is undersized for my house. That's why it's performing so poorly. Vince refuses to stand behind his work and correct the problem.
Description of Work: Installed Unico high velocity a/c system.

Vince is just over and above. He is great. He even brought to our attention a loan program in our state that helped up to finance the work. He had to estimate what capacity our system was going to need to be, and plan the duct work. We had a couple of other companies come out for estimates. Vince's estimate came in around everyone else's but we were happy with his willingness to work around some other structural things. Other companies did not like our idea to have the furnace on the third floor, which cut down on the duct work, but he was very accommodating. He gave us a further discount because we were able to be flexible with the time. He gave me a call the one time he was going to be 10 minutes late. We'll be calling him back for the A/C, and will call him when we get around to replacing the furnace. Any time we will have any kind of work like this, we will call him back.
Description of Work: He set up everything so that once we are ready to install the central A/C we will only have to build the condenser unit. We have to finish building our deck, and then we can easily set up the A/C.

Vince and his employees were great. We're slowly renovating our duplex, while we live in it, and many contractors are unwilling to work with us piecemeal. Vince consulted with us and came up with an acceptable plan for running the ductwork, found a way to install the furnace on the 3rd floor (to minimize ductwork). He also suggested a furnace that was exactly the same piece of equipment as more expensive models, but with an off-label brand. He was willing to put AC capability in our system, even though we couldn't immediately buy the condenser unit. He also appreciated that we could wait until his schedule was less busy (about 2 weeks after the estimate was done). Anytime he was running late, we received a call, even if it was only 10 minutes behind schedule. Work was done relatively quickly, less than a week between start and finish. Vince and his crew cleaned up after themselves, were polite and professional, and dealt with the permits and inspection for us. Great company, great work. I just had to put him on Angie's List so more people can get the benefit of his services.
Description of Work: Installed new gas furnace in third floor attic space, all ductwork for 2nd and 3rd floors, ran gas, water, and drain lines for furnace, and prepared the system to receive central AC (condenser will be installed at later date).
