I always use them, because they always do a really good job. They do tend to subcontract out, so I don’t know who they are subcontracting out to. They are very reasonable.
Description of Work: I use Sears Carpet and Upholstery Care to clean my rugs. I have a couple of rental properties.

We hired Sears because of a promotion and because we had used the service in the past. The technicians arrived after the appointment time (about 2 hours late), and near the end of their long day, and seemed anxious to be done with the work. They were polite but hurried, and by the time they left, the sun had set ... they may have had another appointment before quitting for the day. The next day, when moving some of the smaller pieces of furniture back in place, I noticed that something had dripped on two table tops and had damaged the finish. One piece was in the living area and was only moved temporarily during the cleaning. The other was actually in another room that the technicians passed through to and from their van. The damage appeared to be caused by solvent drops from the wand used to apply the cleaning solution. Moreover, when I looked outside, I saw that the van had been driven off our driveway and trenched our lawn parallel to the blacktop. I immediately called the Sears Carpet Cleaning office that had booked the service and explained what had happened. I followed this with a detailed e-mail containing photos of the damaged furniture and trenched lawn. Conversation with a representative and a subsequent follow-up call led me to secure an estimate to repair the furniture (the tables are present-day Stickley mission pieces, not antiques but still expensive) and that "things would be taken care of." Well, more phone calls, disappearing associates, and several follow-up letters (containing copies of previous correspondence and photos) have yet to result in any response whatsoever from Sears Carpet Cleaning. Meanwhile, I have paid $750 to have the table tops refinished by the factory. My chief issue with Sears is their absolute disregard of my respectful requests for consideration and patience over the period of several months, being passed from person to person, and finally after three months being ignored altogether. If they are not insured, so be it. At least they should have the courtesy to apologize and say so!
Description of Work: We contracted for carpet cleaning in living room, family room, stairs, and hall. The results of the cleaning were fair, at best.

The sears crew pulled up in a loud, rumbling old van. They took my credit card and charged me before the job. After the job my carpet still looked dirty in the traffic areas. I was told that the fibers get worn and the dirt will not come out. I had the carpet cleaned a year prior and the dirt came out. I blotted the carpet after they left and alot of the dirt came up. But my carpet is still looking somewhat dirty. They sprayed a scotchguard on my carpet.........oversprayed onto walls and furniture and comforters. The carpet is 8 years old and a stainmaster. I just believe that the sears crew did not do a good job. Then they emptied their brown water out onto my driveway. I used modernistic last year and will probably use modernistic next year. Sears does not put your furniture up on the little styrofoam pieces nor do they want to move your furntiture. I moved it all out and moved it all back. I will not use sears again.
Description of Work: Pretreated rooms. cleaned the carpets and put down a scotch guard.

The 2 gentlemen arrived at the scheduled time. The lead worker was very friendly, but he had some trouble communicating with his new co-worker, who spoke only a small amount of English. In any case, he explained the cleaning process to me, went over safety concerns about walking on the stairs while they're wet, etc. I had to pre-pay the job with a credit card, which I found odd (shouldn't I pay AFTER the work is done?) The work was completed very quickly - almost too quickly in my opinion. It took less than 1 hour to clean all the items above. I got the sense they were under a time crunch and were trying to get to another job. Unfortunately I wasn't so happy with how the carpets turned out. I think that is mainly due to the steam extraction process that Sears uses. I'm sure their normal process was followed, but these were light colored, low shag carpets and the traffic areas and steps did not appear very clean when they were done. I know you can never get light-colored carpets totally clean, but I expected a better result. In my opinion, a rotary brush system with shampoo would have done a better job of scrubbing and lifting the fibers of the carpet to get them really clean, as opposed to simply shooting the cleaning solution in and sucking it up. No extra work seemed to be done on these high traffic areas, such as using a hand brush to supplement the extraction process. The chair and area rug turned out better, and a scrubbing brush was used on the chair arms, which were more heavily soiled. Bottom line - the carpets were cleaner than when I started, but not exactly what I would call clean. A disappointing result. I doubt I would use Sears again for this type of work.
Description of Work: Had 1 bedroom carpet, 2 staircases, 1 upholstered chair, and 1 area rug cleaned

I asked them to be careful with the woodwork when dragging their hoses through the house becuase it was all freshly painted and they basically ignored me. They marked up several freshly painted door jambs. They also claimed to have opened every vent, but when I checked them after they left they clearly had not opened several return air vents because these were all feshly painted and it was obvious they hadn't been touched. The screws on the vents were still painted to the vent itself. I have major doubts that they opened the floor vents too. They seemed to be done awfully fast considering what they claimed they did, now we know why.

They came and upsold me a disinfecting spray when they were at my house. I wasn't really happy about this as I didn't have time to think about it and basically they made it sound like if I didn't do it it would be a waste of time. So I took the upsell of the disinfecting spray. They were not so careful with there equipment and made several marks on the wall and left a bit of a mess surrounding the vent openings. They also bent two vents. Not totally impressed with them but the ducts were cleaned and the dust in the house has dropped significantly and there is no longer any smells.
