Phil arrived on time, took care of it and everything is functioning beautifully. We trust Phil so much that we gave him keys to our property which he returned right after the job. We trust him. He always does a great job.

We have a double sink that was only connected on one side and a poorly installed faucet due to previous owner. I contacted Philip Schafer on 12/15 via e-mail and he called on 12/16 in the morning, he said he would see if he could get us in that afternoon and if not we could discuss another day. Later that day I had a fully working sink and a faucet that doesn't wiggle!!!!! He assessed the situation and re-piped the sink fixing the things the last owner did and did not do that needed to be done.
Description of Work: Connected side of double sink to the main so we could use it and secured the faucet.

Very timely, efficient. Even gave my husband the courtesy of cutting into the wall himself, thus saving us some $$$. Will definitely use again. Just a side note, be ready with your Angie's list coupon from the get-go. We forgot and he cannot make an adjustment after the fact.

On price and coupon. Customer paid with credit card and I left to next job. Customer called me later to mention they forgot coupon. Not my fault I do not have ability to change a credit card charge. My price was a very good fair price.

Woke up in the morning with water stain on the kitchen ceiling; seems like something broke on the second floor bathroom; called them early in the morning and he promptly answered and told me he will fit me some time during the day. Called around 10am to come over and arrived in 15 minutes. He looked around and found a leaking pipe on the toilet. Replaced the pipe and adjusted some other parts; the leaking stopped and no further damage to the kitchen ceiling. After he left, I also called to ask couple follow up questions and he was very patient and explained things clearly to me.

Phil was great - he answered the phone when I called, called back when he said he would, and arrived when he said he would. He answered all my questions about our options with the existing pipes, and we are very pleased with all the work that he did, and we will gladly use him in the future.
Description of Work: As a result of getting a new floor in our powder room, I called Phil to install a new vanity for us. He moved the pipes from the floor into the wall, replaced them with new copper pipes, and he installed the vanity. He also had to replace the flange for the toilet and install the toilet.

The leak turned out the issue was drainage from the outside. He helped me figure out what happened, but because he didn't have to do actual plumbing he did even charge me anything. Will use him for actual plumbing in the future.

When I tried to contact Phil, he was responsive. If I called and he didn't answer, he called me back within a day or so. If I emailed him, he responded in about the same timeframe. He worked around my schedule because I had to take time off work to get everything done. My wife and I purchased everything we wanted ahead of time (except for the filter and hwh pressure release tank), so everything was there for him to install. He called ahead to make sure everything was on schedule and showed up on time. He had to cut the counter to install the (large) sink, but he did a very good job because everything fit even though there wasn't much room for error. He also had to adjust the disposal and pipes because the sink was much deeper. He used a drop-cloth, but there was still a lot of dust that needed to be cleaned up later. So far the only issue we encountered was a loose pipe fitting that caused a leak under the sink, but a good hand tighten cleared that up. Aside from that we've been very happy with the sink installation. As for the hot water heater, water softener, and filter, everything went the same as with the sink. Phil took the time before he started to plan everything out before starting to work so he was more likely to do it right the first time. He had to leave in the middle of the installation to pick up an item for the installation, but it was convenient because the electrician showed up to install the line to run the hot water heater when he was gone, and he wasn't gone long. The installation finished up in the projected amount of time. So far everything has been running very well, although it took a long time to clean up afterward because there were a lot of boxes and Styrofoam. Phil did a good job of picking up after himself, although I had to take care of all the trash from the installation. Overall I really liked the quality of work and the attitude that Phil had while on the job, and would certainly call him again for additional plumbing-related work.
Description of Work: He visited twice, first to install a sink, and then install a hot water heater, water softener, and water filter.

Perfect. I couldn't be more satisfied.
Description of Work: We had bought a front load washer and drier from lowes and they installed them with the doors facing the wrong way. One estimate I had included moving the gas lines and it was a $900 estimate. This work was not necessary. I contacted Philip Schafer through Angieslist and he responded promptly and we set up a date. He came in, gave me an estimate, and did the work quickly. He used extended lines for the washer and dryer which worked great. He even fixed the dryer vent that lowes messed up. I now have a new plumber that i can trust. I highly recommend Philip Schafer.

About a month ago I had a hot water heater installed. After a few weeks I noticed rusting around the cold water pipe around the entry point to the tank and a small puddle of water on top of the tank. . I contacted the installer and he identified the problem as a pinhole leak in the piping above the water heater and he repaired the pipe at no cost. He attributed the problem to a poor water supply. A week later I noticed dripping from the solder around an elbow joint above the heater. For a variety of reasons, I decided to go with a different plumber this time and found Philip Schafer on Angie's list. I was able to contact him directly right away and discuss the problem. Due to the fact this was not an emergency, we agreed he would either come out that afternoon or sometime that week depending on the schedule. A few days later I got the call and Philip arrived promptly. After examining the pipework, it was determined the problem was due to faulty solder work and I was given a fair price to make the repair. Philip also mentioned that I was likely out of code due to not having a thermal expansion tank and that I might eventually be required to have one installed anyone when I sell my house. He also gave a thorough explanation of the benefits of having the tank which seemed logical. I decided to go with the thermal tank to save me the additional cost of getting it done when I sell the house. At the conclusion of the job, Philip explained that he replaced not just the leaky solder, but all of the piping above the heater. He also offered to properly set the thermostat in the heater explaining that they all come at the low setting. I had increased the setting myself, but was not aware you needed to do it for both elements. In summary, I was very satisifed with the job and would recommend Philip to anyone needing a real professional plumber.

Initially Phil was one of two plumbers recommended by our local hardware store several years ago. We had a small plumbing issue at that time (I can't remember what it was) and I called Phil. He came out that night, resolved the plumbing issue and would not accept any money. "Just keep me in mind when you have plumbing work," he asked. Jump to the present when we required significant plumbing work and we again called Phil. And we're glad we did. Phil listened to us and understood very well what our health needs required in the bathroom. Phil ,and the contractor he brought on board, inventively designed a very attractive bathroom in the small, unconventional space we had available. He and the contractor both adhered to the schedule they discussed with us. Phil and the contractor worked together very well. (Hopefully you've not had the experience where tradesmen clash - it can get ugly.) I could go on, but the punch line is that my wife and I are very happy with Phil and his work. I do however think that the one 'F' Phil received due to his alleged unresponsiveness is unfair. Responsiveness, or lack of, is a common problem in dealing with tradespeople. It can be feast or famine in their business and sometimes, if they're busy, they can't be as responsive as they wish. We never had that problem with Phil. Just to keep a perspective, we use a roofer that I had to "stalk" by phone for weeks. But our hardware store strongly recommended him and they were right! The roofer was brilliant in his solutions and extremely reasonable. If I have to 'chase' him a bit to get a response, it's worth it. I would strongly recommend Phil.

It went very well. He had correctly guessed that the problem with our hot water heater was a water logged expansion tank and had one with him. He solved that problem immediately and replaced the valve as well. The shower was due to the faucet itself and not the showerhead. He indicated that since it was an older faucet he would have to order the cartridge but first tried to just replace the parts. That did not work so he then ordered the new cartridge. He made it quite clear that since it was an older shower it was possible that the new cartridge would not solve the problem and he might have to replace the entire faucet. We opted for replacing the cartridge and that worked. He did not charge us for the time or parts for trying to fix it the first time and even had to come out to our house twice more since the first older cartridge he had was not the correct one. We found him to be quite personable and professional and would definitely consider using him again.
Description of Work: We called Mr. Schafer to deal with two different plumbing problems. The pressure relief valve on our hot water heater was leaking and the shower in our master bathroom was leaking as well.

I called Philip Schafer about troubleshooting and fixing a plumbing issue I had with water leaking out from the base of a toilet. He came out to take a look at the problem and determined that it was caused by a blockage in my main waste water drain that was preventing water from draining out of the house properly. He then gave me an estimate for clearing the blockage in the drain by running a cable into the main drain that was outside the house. He couldn't perform the job the same day because he did not have the equipment but he was able to do it the very next day. Once he cleared the blockage, the problem was fixed! He even reset the toilet and reinstalled a new wax ring on the toilet base to ensure that the seal was not broken. Overall, the experience was great and I would definitely hire Philip Schafer for any plumbing problems again.

I had to find another company off Angie's List for the fact that Mr. Schafer hasn't returned any phone calls. This new company has already given me an exact date and time. I wish he would have called just let me know that he couldn't do the job.
Description of Work: I called Philip Schafer Plumber in the middle of the 1st week in December and left a message. He called me back and said he will call me on the 12/10/2012. Response from Philip Schafer Plumbing
First off I do not typically read my reviews. This F review is obviously a person who had wrong number or possibly I did drop the ball on. I do my best but I am only human. He could have called back. He took more time to give me a bad grade than he did to contact me. If I did lose his call I do regret but Evan if I did fail to call him back a bad review for a job I never did is unfair in my opinion.

I called Phil on Monday after seeing great reviews of his work on Angie's List. Our kitchen sink faucet spout broke off at it's base. Over the phone, Phil was courteous and willing to squeeze us into his schedule. Because we wanted to use this incident as an opportunity to upgrade our powder room faucet, Phil and I agreed to schedule a repair/replacement appointment towards the end of the week. This gave my wife and I an opportunity to shop for the faucets that we wanted. I also appreciated Phil's advice regarding reputable faucet manufacturers. He explained why he liked two manufacturers in particular including their warrenties, their no nonsense parts replacement policy and how easy it was to get parts even for 20 year old faucets. I asked him about another faucet manufacturer and in a matter of fact way, he stated that he would not recommend that brand. Specifically, this brand was prone to leaks and in some instances the cost of repairing the leak outweighed the cost of replacing the faucet. He wasn't aware at that time but I have a 4 year old faucet from that manufacturer and it's leaking. Phil arrived on time on our appointed day. He layed out a tarp on our kitchen floor and was very careful not to create a mess. After installing both faucets, checked for flow and leaks several times. He reviewed his work with us and also showed us how to contact the manufacturer if we ever had to order a replacement part. Overall, he delivered a great service, was extremely courteous and professional. We will use Phil again in the near future and I would strongly recommend him to anyone in need of a great plumber.

He responded extremely quickly when I called him first thing in the morning. He arrived promptly, examined the plumbing in the kitchen as well as the basement and discussed our options. He answered all my questions completely and was concerned with making sure the plumbing was good in the future as well as right now. Since we had a "small" problem and a "larger" problem, I opted for fixing the smaller problem today and asked for an estimate to replace the sewer line which is 40 years old. I have nothing to compare the estimate to at this point, but it seems reasonable at $1489. I would definitely use Philip again and recommend him to my neighbors and friends.
Description of Work: Philip installed a new "clean out" under the kitchen sink and snaked the line until it was clear. He also gave us an estimate for replacing our main sewer line which is on its last legs and isn't pitched properly.

We had a major bathroom renovation project that required the replacement and reworking of a good portion of our household plumbing. Unbelievably, the hardest part of the project was finding a reliable plumber. We had nearly given up after going through 6 plumbers that were either grossly overpriced (probably to avoid the job), uncomfortably shady (gave us an estimate without even coming over to look at the job, or only giving the area a cursory glance), or just plain flaky (gave us an unbelievably "bargain" estimate, then we never heard from them again, wouldn't return phone calls, etc.). We finally found Philip Schafer on Angie's list and gave him a call -- within less than a day, I got a call back from him, and he was in the house the next day to appraise the job. He really took his time to figure out the best way to tackle all of the different parts of the project, he explained everything he planned to do in great detail, and was completely honest about everything, including parts of the job he was unsure about. He gave us a fair, detailed written estimate for the work and stuck to it through the entire job, never once bumping up the price for "unexpected additional work." During the project, he and his crew were always courteous and thoughtful of our schedule and living situation, especially concerning times when the water needed to be shut off. He always made sure the work and traffic areas were cleaned up, all extraneous materials were disposed of, and that nothing in the house got broken or damaged. His work was quite simply excellent -- all of the drain pipes worked perfectly with no leaks or backups, he did an excellent job of routing the drainage through difficult areas in the basement so that they would not interfere with the structure of the existing rooms downstairs, all of the water inlet plumbing looked unobtrusive and worked perfectly with no leaks, and all of the fixtures were installed with the greatest of care. At the end of the project, everything looked excellent and operated perfectly. In summary, there is just no way that I can possibly give this guy enough praise. We handed him one heck of a job, and he stood up to the task in every way. His work was excellent and fairly priced, and he's a genuinely straight-shooting honest guy (which I value above all else). He was worth every penny we paid and probably a lot more. I am definitely keeping him on our speed dial for future projects and/or plumbing problems.
Description of Work: Replaced the entire drain trunk, added new drainage lines with additional venting, plumbed water and drainage to 7 separate fixtures, installing two sinks, a shower, a clawfoot tub, two toilets and a urinal, replaced the inlet and drain pipes for the downstairs washing machine, and other odd tasks.

We discovered an ominous leak coming from our downstairs shower that was causing water to puddle under the carpet in our family room. There was no obvious source and fearing the worst (leak behind the pipes in the wall) we called Philip Schafer. We did not have a plumber so we chose Philip as he is local and has excellent reviews on Angie's list. He came almost immediately. He is very professional and personable. He quickly discovered the source of the leak. It was not a complicated plumbing problem or a leak behind the wall. The caulking had eroded under the shower door and the shower water was trickling undetected under the floor in the bathroom and into the family room. We were thrilled to hear that no costly repair was needed and that our problem would be solved if we replaced the shower door. He did not charge us since it was not a plumbing issue. If you are looking for an honest, responsive and professional plumber, we highly recommend you call Mr. Schafer. We will recommend him to all of our neighbors and friends and we will use him for all of our future plumbing needs. Another Angie's lislt success for us! The Clampffers of Audubon, PA

I chose Phil from the list of plumbers on Angies List since he lives nearby and got very good reviews. We didn't bother to get estimates from other plumbers -- we just trusted that he would do a good job at a fair price. Phil came over within an hour of our phone conversation. He was kind enough to cover his shoes with the booties we keep on hand, since we don't wear shoes inside the house. The work was finished in 1 1/2 hr, and he did a fine job.
Description of Work: We had persistent drips from two faucets. In the upstairs bathroom, Phil replaced a valve and supply tube. The faucet in the downstairs lavatory was old and would require a cartridge, so Phil suggested that we run over to Home Depot and get a new faucet that he could install that day so that he wouldn't have to charge for a second visit. We bought the new fixture, and Phil replaced two valves and supplies, then installed the new faucet.

Phil came out to access the issue and gave us a quote the same day. We set an appointment for the following week and had a frost-free sillcock value installed. The work was completed quickly and cleanly. We now have a working hose connection with the "siding waterfall". Phil took the time to explain the issue with my wife ... made suggestions on what not to do (leaving a hose connected in the winter), etc. Would look to use Phil again for plumbing needs.

He did an awesome job. Philip arrived on time, looked at the job, told me exactly how much it would cost and then got to work. He was very personable. He was highly efficient and knowledgeable about the faucets out there now and the one I provided to be installed. He was able to work very quickly. The faucets don't leak anymore:) They look GREAT. I'm very happy with the work. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone! I have crappy plumbing at my house and have had to contact plumbers. I have had 5 different plumbers do work in my house and he is the only one I will call back again. If you need work done, call him!! He also offered 10% off for being an Angie's List customer so I ended up paying 10% less than what he quote me which was wonderful!
Description of Work: I had the faucet system replaced in my tub. The pipes in access panel behind the wall needed to be cut, shut off valves needed to be put in, and the new faucet system needed to be installed.
