Pell Tree Company

Very happy with Pell's. Did exactly what they proposed for the price they stated. Professional and prompt. Cleaned up beautifully after finishing - couldn't even tell they'd been there. And of course, the trees look great. Nice job. Highly recommend.

3 workers arrived and worked non-stop for 3 hours. They cleaned up all the branches and debris from my property and my neighbors property where they needed to work from to get all the branches. A very professional and excellent job. I would definitely hire them again.

Very well. They were so nice to work with! They were on time, courteous, did all of our work in only one day. We just can't say enough good things about them.

We had contracted to have stump grinding of a tree and full removal (including stump grinding) of a second. While we were on vacation we learned that a third tree had been struck by lightening. John quickly made his way to our home to put our minds at ease. Fortunately our tree and property were not in immediate danger. The staff and service was exceptional. The deal was one we could not pass up for all of the work that was performed.

When I requested the service (using a $250 coupon) it was explained that there would be a three week wait for the service, but I was willing to wait because of the large discount. Three weeks later, I received a call on a Friday that the work would be done the following Monday. I explained that I was having roof work done too, and that that would be starting on the same day, and I was told that the tree crew would work around the roofing work. The work was done that Monday. The cleanup of the tree that had fallen in the yard was pretty good, but there were still some leftover small branches and large "splinters" of wood on the ground. In addition, near the "sick" tree that was taken down I found a couple of fairly large divots in the ground; I'm guessing these were caused by the vehicle that lifts the worker up to the tree. Also, the large bush next to the tree seems to have been damaged by the work -- branches that had been vertical were bent over and seemed partly broken. Finally, the stump was left in the ground -- I had not been asked if I wanted it to be ground down, and had assumed that therefore it would be. I was later told by Mr. Pell that usually he asks if the homeowner wants the stump ground if they don't request it themselves, but sometimes he doesn't. (I was later given a price for the grinding, which was higher than I was willing to pay.) Overall, the quality of this experience was lower than I expected based on the company's ratings. (And I note that my price rating of "A" is only because of the coupon. Otherwise, it probably would be a "B".) About a year ago I used a local company -- Frank Parenti Tree Service -- to do very similar work, and I was more pleased with the results. Their cleanup was almost flawless and the wait was a week or less. His prices are very comparable to Mr. Pell's, not counting the coupon. To sum up, the only reason I would hire Mr. Pell again is the lower price afforded by his coupon; in terms of quality of work, I found Parenti to be superior.

Take it from me that these guys are good to work with as i have had a LOT of recent tree experience at my house removing several enormous trees with cranes etc. This job was more maintenance oriented in nature, but the thing that's important in this type of work is having good communication with the team involved. John Pell is very thoughtful and has a good eye for a landscape. Equally important is the work crew's attention to detail. This team of 3 worked very well with my wife during the day to prune and shape a number of tricky trees and hedges. I was very impressed when i came home from work at the end of the day. It takes a little while to get on John's calendar, but it's worth the wait.

Work went well for us but Pell's chipper broke and they were forced to completed the clean up without it.

It went fine, but I wish they had cut back a little more than they did. In particular, they left one dead branch hanging directly over the street where my neighbor parks her car. I would have given them a perfect A if they had paid closer attention to what they were doing, and just cut that one down too. I didn't notice while they were here, and I don't think it's worth bothering them about it. It seems silly to have them come back for one branch, so I haven't called them. While they were here my neighbor asked for an estimate. They did a fair amount of work for her for only $50. Their price was good and the work got done.

If I hired them in the future I would wait to pay them, and be very cautious. To make sure the job worked out correctly. They may not have finished the job if I wouldn't have paid them. I'm not putting the whole blame on him, and I have not pursued this issue entirely.

The team was very efficient in removing both trees. Even when their chipper had a mechanical failure so they couldn't complete the job in one day as they thought, they cleaned up our yard as best they could and came back first thing the next morning with a dump truck to remove the rest of the debris they weren't able to chip and finish cleaning up after the job. Overall a very positive experience despite the equipment problem which they handled as well as they could.

The owner along with his workers performed the tree work. They arrived on time, did the work, cleaned up very well. They were polite and worked hard.

The owner was very responsive. He was very good, courteous, and nice on the phone. He came out the next day to look over the work that we needed done. On the next day, he followed up by email. However, their quote was much more than a local company that we ended up hiring for the work.

The work was great! We mostly worked with John Pell. Overall, they did really good work and they were very reliable.

The work was fine. The office contact, Stefanie, was very personable and responsive. The only issues we encountered were due to rain, but that was not the fault of the company.

Great job. Just too a number of weeks to get it booked in, which was frustrating. But when they arrived, they provided a great service.

The service turned out very well. The owner came out and we talked about what should be done. I got along well with him. His people were professional and very friendly. The deal that they offered was very good and they did the work professionally.

The service was good. They came on time and the core of the work was done well. They are lovely people. They had to remove part of my neighbor’s fence to get to a tree that needed to be removed. They were very careful with fence and the removal of the tree. They guy who does the cutting is excellent, and they are good at cutting down trees. Jon is also a wonderful guy and the staff in the office is also excellent. Some of the support staff needs a little additional training because they were a little distracted during the work. The support staff had to remove the limbs that were cut and some of the limbs were too large and ended being dragged over parts of the yard which hurt the bushes under the tree. However, the property is densely planted, so the job in whole was challenging.

The service was fantastic. They were right on schedule and reasonable priced. They were very patient with us and the whole service was very good. We plan on using them again in the future.

The service was great. They came out for the estimate on the day they said they would and did the work on the day they said they would. I came home in the middle of the work and were accommodating to a few requests I made. I was very happy with the work.

Mr. Pell came to my home to assess two dead trees on 8/9/13. The first tree (about 30 feet tall) was resting against a neighbor's garage. The trunk of the tree had disintegrated and the tree looked like it could collapse at any moment. The second tree (about 20 feet tall) was in better condition, standing on its own, but completely dead. I told Mr. Pell that I needed to remove the trees as cheaply as possible. He agreed to send me two price quotes - one for the complete removal of both trees and a second quote for the cost of cutting down the trees, but leaving the wood in my yard. When I had not received the price quote by 8/12/13, I sent a message through Angie's List requesting the quote. I received the quote the next day. The quote was $1650 to completely remove both trees and $1250 to cut down the trees, but to leave the wood in my yard. I decided to go with a company that had given me a lower price quote. If I had not received a lower bid from another tree removal service, I would have booked the job with Mr. Pell because he was prompt, courteous and professional. I would consider his company for another landscaping job.

I was not told when they would arrive and thus missed the beginning of their work. I got out there just in time to prevent them from removing more than I intended. Obviously the gentleman who came out to establish what needed to be done and I had a different concept of the finished job. The men who did the work were excellent. They were pleasant, careful and cleaned up completely after themselves.

Pell's Landscape Company were very punctual, looked at the tree, and emailed me an estimate but it took them a day or two to contact me after a competitor gave me another estimate. They are good people and they followed up.
