Pell Tree Company

This company was excellent. Fast, efficient, professional, friendly. Cleaned up 100 % after their work. John was able to fit us in way ahead of the scheduled potential date which was an added bonus. And the service coupon purchased via Angie's List was a big help. All in all, an A-1 service!

John has a good interpersonal skills and customer relation traits. He provided estimate and timeline on time. However, the estimated work schedule date is just way outside of our needed timeline.

Had a wonderful crew. Very quick. He was excellent.

After I told the provider about the the coupon I purchased, but before I had received an estimate, he told me that he would not use the coupon discount. Instead he would provide an estimate with a separate discount. Instead of receiving a 50% discount on a minimum of $500 worth of work I received a discount of about 14% ($500) on a $3500 estimate. It was very difficult to determine the value of the work to be done. The only thing I could do was get another job estimate which was about $300 less than Pell's estimate and I did not negotiate a discount with the second provider.

The patio is beautiful, at long last. Over the course of the project, the office manager and the project manager left the company. The job was to be completed in 2-3 weeks. It was begun late, work was interrupted due to the men being pulled to other projects, and then the winter weather set in. The work was completed in 18 weeks. Mr. Pell did not take the initiative to update me, and when I called him each month he complained bitterly that he did not want to call me because I was too angry with him. The worksmanship is excellent. Almost every aspect of the business dealing I had with Pell were very disappointing.

He basically told me that my home was too far for him to travel for $250.00. I've had it done before for $200.00.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB! Amazing is an overused word these days, but in this case it is truly deserved. The crew took down three giant white pines which really took a beating over the winter and two dying cedars. They cleared out the dead and dying vegetation under the trees, too. They were professional, efficient and neat. They worked non-stop for hours to get the job done and we couldn't be happier with their services. My neighbor commented on how they continuously raked and kept the area so clean and he is recommending them to a friend.

We have been catching him through voice message; he has been calling my house and job. So I just haven’t had a chance to talk to him. We left him a message and he did respond, he was calling Jo on his cell phone and leaving him a message saying he wanted the address so he could come by in his travel, look at it and send an estimate over the internet. That is what he did. He gave us an estimate of $485. My main concern is the time when he thinks he can start the work and he said four to five weeks, which is fine with me because another company told me July. It worked out fine. He tried working around our schedule. He sounds like a reliable guy.

John was extremely responsive, returned my calls very quickly. Since he came by for initial quote when I wasn't home, he proposed calling me while at the property. I had described the job for him ahead, that wasn't hard, but I found the fact that I could talk to him while he was there very useful, as I ended up addressing more general questions that I had. He seemed knowledgeable and spent time discussing (also the day the job was performed) and giving me good information. We had a small incident with a branch being removed which we didn't want to have it cut. John came immediately to the site and resolved the issue very professionally. I gave a B for quality for that reason, and B for price because the quote seemed a bit higher than those from other companies (this is based on quotes to similar, not identical jobs). I should also note that because we have a propoerty with many tress we might be more price-sensitive than others. I am qualifying the B grades above to point out that B is a very solid grade, and I don't like giving As indiscriminately. I certainly would have liked a slightly better price and the branch not to be cut. However, I would use John again because of the way the rest of the job went, the professional way he approached the job and his knowledge. Also, with an Angie's list coupon his pricing can actually be very competitive.

Super job with difficult removal of large oak tree. Great coordination of labor and equipment. Guys worked all day in a cold rain. Easy going guys with reasonable pricing.

John was very responsive. I purchased a Big Deal for $500 worth of tree work and he contacted me the very next day. He came out to estimate the work on the Saturday, which was two days later. He walked around the yard with my husband to make notes of everything that would have to be done. He gave us a very detailed estimate allowing us to decide whether to spring for the stump-grinding on the dead tree in the back of our property. There was extensive damage from the February ice storm, with many downed limbs and branches, some of them very large. The crew worked quickly and our yard was unrecognizable in less than a day. We received a bill some weeks later for the balance of $1700 after the Angie's List Big Deal. We would definitely recommend John Pell to friends and neighbors.

Carl from Pell's landscaping came out after I called twice to schedule a meeting. After meeting, he promised a proposal in a couple of weeks. I hadn't heard from them after a few weeks, so I called. The owner told me they were a little backed up, and I would hear from them shortly. I never did. I called again last week, and got an answering machine, but it sounded like a personal number. Perhaps they've gone out of business.

Was prompt in responding to my call and even came at 8pm to make sure that he could provide a timely estimate.

John came out and gave an estimate then once I confirmed that we wanted the service done, he sent a team out and they completed the work quickly and professionally.

Pells did a great job. They were on time, worked quickly and the trees turned out good. I have one tree that was constantly breaking limbs, and when the bad storms this winter hit, including an ice storm, none of the tree branches broke! So, I think they did a great job.

They were very busy as you would imagine with situations that involved houses, etc. They initially got the trees out of my driveway so that we could use our cars and in subsequent trips to our house removed the trees from the property and then grinded the stmps down as far as possible. I was satisfied with the job except for the fact that they left tracks in my lawn from the grinding machine. The contract stated that they are not responsible but as they used planks for protecting the rest of the lawn (which was undamaged), the workers forgot to use it when moving the grinding machine for the final set of stumps near the house. I don't want to make too big a deal of this but more care should have been taken. John did come out to see what was done but did not offer to fix the situation and used the "contract" as an out rather than making things good as I would have done in his situation. I also said I was interested in potentially using their company for landscaping design and replacement services for the downed trees but I never heard from them again and am in the process of getting another company to do that portion of the work. A lost opportunity for them...business must be VERY good! Thus the B instead of an A was in order.

Pells did any excellent job trimming and removing all the downed tree limbs from the snowy winter.

hey were very good, very professional, very knowledgeable, and they did what they were hired to do. I just rehired them again, but they haven't done the service yet. They did an excellent job, cleaned up, and did everything they said they would do.

It went really well and he was very responsive and professional. He was easy to work with. He sent a written estimate and followed up on everything so we were very happy. They were clean and cleaned after wards and didn’t leave a mess. They made sure that everything was in order when they arrived and didn’t leave a lot of debris around or anything of that nature. They are quiet and very efficient. I got a notice that they are coming day before and they came in and were gone so quickly.

Pell's was great. They came out and looked at my tree. They gave me an estimate of $750 to $1000 or more to get the work done. The coupon was for $250. I was willing maybe to go $500 at this time but not more. I'd like a refund. Thanks.

They responded to our request and came out and gave us a price promptly. The price was good and they actually came the next evening (we have a street light right by the tree) and did the work. We gave them a B only because they didn't do the best job in cleaning up all the small branches left behind. They also gave us a good price to come back and remove the stump in the spring, which we will probably take advantage of (if this winter ever stops).

We hired Pell's Landscape Co to remove several large trees from in front of our home, and to prune several other trees. John Pell came to look at the work to be performed and gave us an estimate on the spot. We had received another estimate, and the one from Pell's was considerably lower. It took a few weeks to schedule the work due to many snow storms that we have been encountering, but we had told John that we were flexible with the schedule. When the day finally came for the work to be performed, John's crew were right on time, and had all the necessary manpower and equipment to do the work correctly. It took all day, but when they finished all the work was completed and the area was cleaned up. We are very pleased with the results.

Pells was great to work with, and I absolutely recommend their company, can not say enough good things about them!

It didn't work out for me at all. First of all, they didn't tell us how much it had to be estimated at in order to even take advantage of it. But I paid $250 through Angie's List. When I got a call they said, "The job that you wanted to be done is only worth $400. Therefore you have to have a job that's at least $500 in order to get the job done." I didn't know this until after I had paid. So I just said, "With all the work that has to be done on the tree, I'm sure another $100 is easy to do" because of the fact that I had limbs to be cut. What he had estimated was $400, but I had like $600 worth of work to be done. There was a disagreement around all that. He didn't want to do the work. He didn't want to estimate it higher which he could have done because I had a lot of tree limbs to be cut. So we ended up with me getting refund, finally. I would advice the contractor to be clear on the arrangements. I think he has done that, because I've seen other Angie's List paper works come through with his offers again and he is saying that unless the job is at least estimated at $500 or more you can't take advantage of it. That was not on there when I first took advantage of the offer. Even with that on there, it doesn't excuse the fact that I have a large, large tree and there is no doubt in my mind that there was $500 worth of work to be done on it because I had gotten it estimated from other tree service companies. One of them wanted to do it for $1000. So for him to say that the work was only worth $400 was just not something I believed. I wouldn't recommend them. I don't try to make problems for companies that are working and trying to make money. I don't pass that on but I certainly expressed that to the owner when I discussed it with him at that time. Their responsiveness wasn't good.
