Viola Building and Remodeling

It could not have gone better. I was initially concerned whether the project could even be done but Darrell scoped it out, gave me a price and schedule, and completed all the work on time as we he said he would. I definitely recommend Darrell Viola for any carpentry and associated work.

Darrel was able to complete everything on my task list in just 1 1/2 days. His work is always spot on and he is professional, highly skilled and reasonable. He promptly returns calls and was able to fit me into his busy schedule. I would highly recommend his work and will continue to work with him in the future as needed.

Darrell was great. I am happy with all the work he did. Darrell was having a hard time putting the spline that came with the pet screen in but came up with the idea to soak it in soapy water first and that made it go in a lot easier and that saved him time and frustration and me money. I like having someone that can use their head and think things through work for me. He does a good job, is polite, works hard and smart, a good communicator and the icing on the cake is he doesn't smoke.

It went very well, Daryl came out and gave us an estimate which we accepted and we set a date. He arrived at the agreed upon time. He was courteous, professional and very neat. He had to remove all the old dyed coch around each skylight and replace it very neatly. With the window he had to remove the wooden exterior trim, and replaced it with fhypon. It turned out very nice, and he kept to the estimate, we were pleased with his work and we will be using them again.

With the window, he had to remove the wooden exterior trim and replaced it with Fhipon (not sure of spelling). It turned out very nice, and he kept to the estimate. We are very pleased with his work and will hire him again.

From start to finish, the job was exceptional. Darrell promptly responded to my initial request for an estimate on replacing 2 interior doors (one with a new frame), repairing a wooden bi-fold door, repairing a bureau drawer and replacing an existing bathroom vanity/sink/faucet setup. He was able to perform the work in a timely manner and was both courteous and professional. The quality of his work speaks for itself and I am very pleased with the outcome of the project and would gladly utilize his services in the future.

When I called and left a message for Darrell, he returned my call right away. He explained that replacing my shutters would probably take a day, and he could do the job between his other, bigger jobs, calling me the day before he planned to come. That was fine with me - I understood it's not a huge job, I wasn't really in a big hurry, and my schedule is very flexible. He called a few weeks later, saying he's coming the next day at around 8am, and sure enough, he showed up when he said he would! That alone scores points! My husband and I had purchased replacement shutters from Lowe's already, so Darrell's job was just taking down the old ones and putting up the new ones we already had. After a short time, he told us something we hadn't noticed: the first-floor shutters are longer than the second-floor shutters. We just measured the one that was knocked off the second floor, and bought the same size for all the windows. Darrell went to a local building supplier right away and brought back a sample wheel for us to choose from, and we did. Before he committed to the purchase, he figured he'd go to Lowe's and see if they had the same thing we bought, only in the proper, longer size. Well, they did, and he bought them. Lowe's has a great return policy, so we just returned the original ones that didn't fit - no problem! Darrell did a great job and explained how the way he screwed the new shutters in would be sturdier than the original ones. They'll probably last at least another 16 years, probably longer. Darrell was very polite, friendly and respectful. He did all this running around in the morning and still finished the job by about 2pm! His actual labor charge was $350 ... the remaining was the cost of the shutters he purchased for us. We'd hire Darrell again in a heartbeat!

We have used Darrell on several projects now and have been very satisfied with the quality of his work, and find he is very easy to work with. He draws on many years of experience building and repairing homes, and has a very good understanding of how to work on an older house like ours (1901). He is also very versatile, and seems to be able to handle almost any project we throw at him. Best of all, he knows his limitations and makes recommendations for specialists (like an electrician and a drywall guy) to bring in when he feels they can do a better / faster job.

The job was completed in a very reasonable amount of time.The job was done well and the work site was left in a clean matter.

I sent a message to them via Angie's List. Mr. Viola responded promptly and we set up an appointment for him to come and give me an estimate. We agreed he'd contact me if he couldn't make it. The appointment time came and went with no contact and I haven't heard from him since. We have since moved on to another contractor who has been responsive. I don't mind if you can't make an appointment, but at least call me. I was disappointed since he received such good reviews. Hopefully this was just a fluke.

Darrell was on time and helped us to identify what needed to be done on several home improvement projects. He priced work fairly and he cleaned up after he did the work. We would absolutely hire him again!

All around great experience. The end result exceeded expectations. The front door looks great and the materials used will keep it that way for years. Even though this was a small job he worked it into his busy schedule when he could and took care of lining up materials.

It was a fortunate day for us when we found Mr. Viola on Angie's List. Our large wooden screened in porch was in terrible shape due to rot, neglect, and boring bees. The two beams supporting it had rotted and sunk into the ground. Darrell was able to jack up the porch and replace the beams with new treated lumber. He built new sets of stairs for the two doorways. The porch roof had leaked, ruining a section of tongue and groove ceiling boards. Similar boards were not available from local lumber yards, so Darrell made them himself. He also replaced all of the screens. Any boards or beams that were rotten, he replaced. The porch looks terrific! Darrell is very reliable. We needed the job done by a certain date for insurance purposes and he worked hard to meet that deadline. He is very creative and did his best to keep the cost of the job reasonable. All of his work is very professional. He was a pleasure to work with, and we hope to use his services again when we remodel a bathroom.

I would have to say that this was the best service that I have receive in a long time. He was very professional and courteous. He really is a hard worker and goes above and beyond. I highly recommend him for any type of handyman needs!

It went very well. Darrell Viola was very responsive and performed a number of duties that I had on my list. There was one item that he could not work on but provided a recommendation for someone else.

He was excellent from before he did the work till he finished. We discussed the best case scenario and the worst case, just to get an idea of the price. He was here today, right on time, did a wonderful job, and it didn't even cost me as much as the best case scenario price was. He's very efficient. I was very impressed with him and will recommend him to all my "old" friends...(I'm 71 and need someone I feel I can rely on) and all my young friends and relatives also. Mr. Viola replaced a drawer track, installed a vanity and sink in my powder room, replaced my mailbox and post and installed a new outlet for a new stove. I was very pleased with all his work and will definitely use him in the future.

My deck at the one corner was starting to sink. When I called Darrell viola he asked about the construction of the deck and would be out to my house to inspect it. He arrived when he said he would discussed various options to fix the deck and gave me an estimate what it would cost in time and materials. We made the appointment and he arrived on time working the full eight hours. He did a very good job and cleaned up the area before leaving.

I bought. Deal for eight hours of work. He was on time, did the work I asked, and was nice to work with. The only negative is that he has a busy schedule, so sometimes you have to wait a while til he can gt to your job.

Over all it was a great success.

Darrell arrived on time and communicated with my husband and I throughout the process. He brought additional materials to assist in completion of the project. He worked diligently to complete the task well and thoroughly.

It was great. He was excellent. The thing I liked about him, being that he was a contractor, he did not require any money up front. He charged $40 an hour and that was it and I paid him at the end of the week. He remodeled a house for me. He did the kitchen, the bathroom, he painted, he did trim and pretty much everything. Doors and windows.

We contracted with Viola Building & Remodeling for an Angie's List special ($249 for 8 hours of contractor services). This was to repair a badly rotted section of soffit and fascia, and paint the entire soffit and fascia on that side of the house. We also needed several other runs of soffit and fascia on the house painted , and asked Darryl for an estimate to do the additional work once the first 8 hours was done. I can't say enough good things about this experience! Darryl contacted us right away once we had ordered the special deal. He came out within a very reasonable timeframe to look at what needed to be done, and see what materials were needed. Right away I was impressed with his knowledge and thoroughness. We had had a couple other people out to estimate the work, but they either couldn't do the carpentry work or had to hire it out to someone else; Darryl could do it all! And his prices are very fair. Due to the weather, the work couldn't be done right away, but he kept in touch with me regularly. After a couple of cancellations due to weather, we finalized a day. He showed up on time, did 100% of the work contracted for within the 8-hour day, and we had him back the next day to finish up the other work. He completed everything we had talked about, did a great job, and charged his standard rate, which is quite reasonable, for the extra work. All told, with the first day's special rate and the second day's work, we spent a little more than $500. He thoroughly answered any questions I had and didn't try to con me into thinking I needed any more done than what was necessary. I was happy that he gave us the option of buying the materials and paint ourselves, which some contractors don't do. We had him buy the lumber for the repair work, but bought the paint ourselves. I prefer certain brands of paint, and appreciated the option of selecting that myself. We have been looking for a general contractor/handyman person for some years, as the fellow we used to use isn't around anymore. We've found that independent, self-employed contractors such as Darryl--when you can find a reputable, competent one--generally provide the best work at the fairest prices, and like to give our business to them. But finding one is hard, and we're very glad we found Darryl through Angie's List! We plan on having him back later this summer to do some additional work, and have a large project that needs to be done next year. We plan to have Darryl do this as well. We would recommend Darryl without reservation to anyone looking for a good contractor. Thank you, Darryl, and thank you, Angie's List!
