Description of Work: Very well done work and very professional - besides, they did the exact deal I bought for the money I paid for so I have to give them an A overall. |However, when I asked for a quote for installing wiring in my 12X12 home office for a new ceiling fan, they gave me a $600+ quote which seemed very high. I just finished the exact same work last weekend with a local electrician for $282 and am very satisfied with it so while I like J&L Electric's work, it seems I'm priced out.

Very professional job.
Description of Work: I used a Big Deal special and was very happy with the service- I had several lights changed- chandelier replaced with semi flush fixture and ceiling fan replaced with another fixture. Also had a ceramic light fixture replaced- all in less than two hours! I also received some very helpful information regarding solar panels (for a future improvement) and he did a quick evaluation of my outdoor connections as well. This could not have been a better experience!!

He didn't want to work from the start. Wanted a big contract instead. Claimed the small jobs couldn't be done. Did only one task, and spent the time doing an estimate. He mocked the work done by another contractor, yet made excuses why he didn't do the other small tasks. The company didn't respond to my phone call. I won't use them again.
Description of Work: I purchased a coupon for two hours. From the start he wanted to use the coupon towards a total whole house rewire. I just wanted two or three small jobs. He did one small job of putting in a new line for a dish washer, in 45 minutes. He told me the other jobs of reinstalling an existing 220 line for one spot to another, with plenty of line couldn't be done, jet another company had no problem. Also reconnecting a line to a porch light wasn't possible. I call the company to question my concern. They chose not to return my call. So I ended up paying for the time to do an estimate. I'm not sure of the original coupon price. I would have to pull out my credit card statement. But the extra charge was $ 65.00.

I had called before purchasing an available Angie's List coupon to confirm that I was within the service area, and the office confirmed that I was within the service. I purchased the coupon, scheduled the time for Scott to come do a quote - and when he arrived, he informed me that I was outside of the service area, but that they had come out anyway because the coupon was incorrectly posted to a larger region by Angie's List. I was a little disappointed because a.) I felt as though I was inconveniencing them from the start, and b.) I was hoping to build a relationship with an electrician I could count on going forward. The bid was perfectly acceptable, and because Scott had what he needed to do the job, he offered to get started right away. It worked out great for me, because I had taken a day off of work for other projects. Unfortunately, after running into an issue with getting the wires down to the new switch, Scott realized that he needed to come back with a different power tool to finish the job. We arranged for him to come the following Monday, when my mom would be able to be at my house to let him in. He had planned to be there on Monday around 10 AM (after another job in the city), but around 11 AM I got a call from the office telling me that he was caught up on the first job and couldn't be there that day. He was going to come out on Tuesday. Unfortunately, my mother was unable to come back on Tuesday (she's about an hour away) - and I have a full time job. After a couple of phone calls back and forth, we agreed on Friday for him to come out and finish the job. Scott did come back first thing the following Friday, finished up the job, and I'm happy with the results. He was extremely apologetic about not being able to be there on Monday - and discounted the end price due to the inconvenience. While I'm happy with the quality and Scott was a very nice guy, I do wish that their office had informed me immediately that I wasn't in the service area. And while I understand that sometimes delays happen, as they did for Scott on the Monday that he was unable to come out, I do think that an earlier notification of the delay and a bit more consideration around how difficult it is for someone with a full-time job to reschedule would have been nice.
Description of Work: Scott from J&L Electric installed 2 pendant lights above my kitchen peninsula, where no light fixtures had been previously. He had to go into my attic to run the electric lines, install the boxes and bring it down to a new switch in the wall.

Approximately two weeks ago I called J&L Electric to talk to them about doing some electrical work at my house. I need to have a transfer case for a portable generator connected to my house's main circuit breaker. This is not a difficult job and am told it should take about an hour. J&L Electric said someone would be at my house between 12 PM and 2:00 PM today, 1/23/12 to do the work. I called them to this morning at approximately 8:45 AM to confirm the appointment and got hold of the admin. asst. She said she had been meaning to give me a call but their internet was down. Already making excuses and we hadn't even begun to discuss my appointment. That should have been my first clue. I told her that I just wanted to confirm that someone would be at my house from 12 PM and to 2:00 PM to do the electrical work that we had previously discussed. She proceeded to tell me that they never give anyone a specific time and that someone should be at my house between 12 PM and 3:00 PM. I told her this was not what had been previously agreed on and she told me that they never give specific times as they do commercial work that has to get done and as such they can never guarantee a time to an Angie's List customer. As such they only schedule in three hour increments she said. Although that was not my recollection of my discussion two weeks ago, I let it go. However, that should have been my second clue as this was a " 2 Hours of Electrical Work For $99" special that I was getting Although I did not have a good feeling about things, there was nothing for me to do at this point except wait for someone to show up. I waited and, lo and behold, no one showed up. A little after 3:00 PM I saw that I had a voicemail message on one of my four phones. The one that had been charging. Alas, it was from J&L Electric. I called and got the admin. asst. She said that unfortunately the technician that was supposed to come to my house to do the work got tied up at the job before mine and was not going to be able to do the work today. She apologized and said she tried to get hold of me several times. That's nice that she apologized. But it did not change the fact that practically my whole day had just been wasted. I don't know about everyone else on Angie's List, but I work for a living and when I need to have something done at my house I have to take time off from work. That is money to me. And that is why I try to plan things in advance. The J&L Electric admin. asst. said that they could have someone out to my house first thing tomorrow which is the the following day. I don't know about everyone else, but it is not that easy for me to change my schedule at the last minute, particularly when it is to accommodate someone who just gave me the shaft. I told the admin. asst. that the only way that would work for me would be if J&L Electric would be willing to do the work for free. She said that would not be possible. When I asked her why she accused me of yelling at her and hung up on me. I assume she thought I was being unreasonable. Actually, all I was doing was complaining about J&L Electrics' service.. Although J&L Electric will not admit it, I'm guessing what happened here is that a better paying job came along and I got bumped. Folks, if the kind of service offered by J&L Electric is what you are looking for, then perhaps J&L Electrics' $99 special is for you. However, if your time and money is worth anything to you, then you might want to try any one of the many other companies on Angie's List or perhaps get a recommendation from a friend.
Description of Work: J&L Electric was hired to install transfer equipment for a portable generator. Basically, all they had to do was make the wiring connections between the transfer case and the main circuit breaker. ** The $320 is an estimate of the amount of money I gave up by not being at work between the time I called J&L Electric this morning and 12 noon which is around the time the admin. asst. said she left her first message.

Response from Jeffers &Leek Electric, Inc.
My name is Scott Jeffers i am the tech that was assigned to this project. on the day in speaking i was at a job before his where that had a emergency there panel was on fire. I made the choice to stay at the job and take care of the emergency to ensure the lady and children were safe. again let me repeat this was a Fire Emergency. I had my office manager call him to tell him that we could not make it. She attempted to call the member starting at 11:42 am until she reached him several hours later. Our office called the member 7 times i can post the times if needed or the call log. During this time his phone was turned off and our calls went straight to his voice mail. When my office got a hold of him they tried to explain the situation where he berated and yelled at our office manager. The member told her that he did not care what happened and that we could make it up by doing it for free the next morning. (not in those words i can not type the actually ones.) After asking the member to stop yelling several times my office manager told him if he kept speaking to her that way she would hang up. when he kept yelling at her she told him were sorry we could not make it out to you and that you do not want to reschedule have a nice day and hung up. Here at J & L Electric we strive to be the best and we are sorry that we let the member down.

Exceptional Service!! They were there when they said they would be and worked till the job was done.
Description of Work: We lost complete power to our home. My husband called J&L and they were at our house within 20 minutes. The technician was very professional and helpful. After inspection he determined that our entire electrical box needed to be replaced, inside and out, due to a previous electrical fire that was caused when our air conditioner went out last year. He told us that the people who replaced the unit should have told us that the boxes needed to be done because it was a fire hazard. We are so thankful that we discovered this before anything bad happened to out home or our family.

This is the 2nd time I've worked with Ed and it was another positive experience. This time, EL Electric did the lighting for a basement remodel, which involved snaking wire from the laundry room above the basement down into the basement's tight utility closet. The best part of the experience was the fact that Ed thought about ways we might want to upgrade in the future and wired accordingly. For example, it's a basement and it might get chilly enough in the winter to warrant the use of a space heater. Ed wired an outlet so that it's set up to be easily moved to its own circuit. Another example, since we didn't know if a TV was going to be wallmounted or on a media stand, he accommodated both scenarios, hiding the wallmount wiring above drop ceiling panels. Ed also listened to how we're going to use the basement and made suggestions for lighting based on that. He is professional and thorough and knows what he's doing. We'll be using him again for additional outlet installation throughout the house and lighting design in a home office.

Ed had done some work on my home when I first moved in about 2 years ago - did a great job at a good price, including running a heavy gague wire thru a ceiling and around a corner - still don't know how he did it without having to tear apart the wall. Another contractor had told me the wire would have to be run around the outside of the house! Was happy with this scheduled service and kept Ed's card on hand in case I needed more work done...am glad I kept it! This Memorial Day, several of my appliances and other devices suddenly stopped working. I couldn't figure out the problem by checking simple things like tripped breakers. I thought there might be a major problem, as my electrical box was warm to the touch. I called Ed, in hopes that he might be able to help out on a holiday...if he didn't answer, my next step was going to be to call the fire department. He picked up the phone immediately and told me he'd be happy to come out for an emergency fee, which I thought was quite reasonable, considering I was taking him away from a family picnic on a holiday. He also told me to turn off the main power immediately. He arrived promptly, removed the box and found the entire box to be fried and charred...I was lucky there wasn't a fire! He was able to get replacement parts quickly (also after 5 pm on a holiday weekend!) and get the box up and running within an hour. Although I wasn't expecting to spend $500 on an electrial repair this weekend, I thought the service and immeidate diagnosis and repair made the price quite reasonable, espectially given the alternative of a possible fire and major damage to my house. Ed said I was lucky it wasn't worse, and I was lucky he was willing to help out! Ed took a couple of the seared and melted breakers to show his family that this was a true emergency, am hoping his wife has forgiven him for leaving the picnic to help out a customer! Thanks for your help and quick and professional service!!

Because we have no attic from which to drop electrical line, Ed had to channel into plastered walls, snake line through ceiling beams and put each fan on a single wall switch. He did a fantastic job! When one of the ceiling fans fell out of the ceiling at midnight (a fault of the manufacturer), Ed came back promptly the next day and went to bat for us, calling the manufacturer and insisting, politely and tenaciously (picture a polite, professional bulldog), that the company not only replace the fan, but also pay to have the new fan reinstalled. Needless to say, EL Electric will be doing all of our electrical work from now on.

We found them on the list. He was on time and he was very nice. I thought that his prices were excellent and I also got a price from another company from the list whose price was exorbitant and I did not use them. He was less than half compared to the first estimate I got for the exact same thing and he was great. I spent about $600 for that work.
Description of Work: We used EL. Electric in June or July and he replaced outdoor light fixtures that had been destroyed in the winter snow storm.
