chimney sweep

Description of Work: December 4, 2008 - Cleaning and inspection of chimney that had not been used for several years. As we had never had a fireplace before, I needed some education on the whole process. Mr. Sterner explained what he was going to do and why, spent some extra time doing so. Prepped well and didn't leave any mess. Cleaned thoroughly, inspected firebox, flue, chimney from inside and rooftop, cap and flashing.

+ -1 moreThey did a really good job of cleaning up and also preparing the area for the sweeping.
Description of Work: They cleaned out our fireplace and flue using a brush and vacuum system. They also inspected the chimney to ensure it was up to code. They took about an hour or so to complete the work and all garbage was thrown out by them.

chimney sweep
+ -1 moreHe arrived on time, spread his drop cloths, and cleaned the fireplace and chimney with a special vacuum and brushes. As far as I can tell he did a fine job with that. (I really have no way to tell, except to say that we have had fires in the fireplace and the house hasn't burned down.) The problem was that somehow he got a stain on part of the carpet that he hadn't covered. All his equipment was very dirty, so all it had to do was touch the carpet with and it could have left a mark. I pointed this out to him after he was finished, but he denied that he caused the stain. I explained to him that it was a brand new carpet and that we hadn't moved into the house yet, so it had to be him. He continued to assert that it couldn't have been him and left quickly. I haven't been able to get the stain out myself and will probably have to call a professional.
Description of Work: Regular chimney cleaning.
