Jason and his crew can be trusted to do an amazing job. Our project was large and complicated, requiring close attention to detail. I am glad we trusted Jason for this project. Everyone in his crew worked hard, even on Saturdays, to finish the work on time. Also, during the work, Jason sought my advise at every step of the way to make sure the work was done according to my liking. We had to make a few changes during the construction and he was very open to do them, often giving his own suggestions on what will look good. The end result is spectacular as can be seen in the attached images.

If I could give Jason an A++++ I would. The job was done beyond my expectations. The minimal yard damage from soggy soil was fixed and reseeded. He answered all questions and kept me up to date on what was going on. Even sent me instructions for maintaining and what to do with the newly planted grass. Would hire again in a nanosecond.

The job went very well despite a few rain delays!! Jason and his crew did a great job!! I would definitely recommend his work and i would definitely use his services again.
Description of Work: Yard makeover including a new walk river rock and border around the house, timbers to border the yard on the street side and river rock around the ornamental grass bushes along the side of the yard..Jason and his crew also paid attention to the little details like putting and extension on the dryer vent before installing new covers on the window wells..He also took time to level the air conditioner. They also did a great job with cleanup and removing all the debris from the yard.

Jason returned calls immediately and He started the job on time and completed it on budget. The completion of the project was delayed because of weather, but his team were here whenever possible. Jason made numerous recommendations on the design and materials, many of which we adopted. We are very happy with the results and we have recommended him to several of our friends and neighbors.

VERY well. Jason Palat was very responsive in the quote and work phases. He made several proposals for materials and designs. We agreed on a design and his guys showed up on time each day, and took 5 days to complete the job. Demolishing a wood deck and cutting and placing stone pavers is not a clean job, but Jason's guys did an outstanding job of keeping the mess to a minimum, and cleaning everything. There were a few things that needed follow-up, and Jason was on top of it immediately. I have him coming back for another project this spring.
Description of Work: Our duplex has a 19' x 23' "backyard" with an existing wood deck with a terrible configuration and condition. We wanted it all torn out and replaced with a functional stone/paver patio, with some perimeter room left for gardening.

Overall: We were very pleased with how Jason and his team performed the work. This was not a particularly easy job to do, and they acquitted themselves of their task very well. The design is simple, but nice, and the result looks very good. We will need one or two years to see how the new stairs hold up through all seasons, but the craftsmanship seems very good. The work was completed relatively quickly considering it was done in the middle of winter, and we thus had a couple of snow days. Jason and his team always showed up exactly when they said they would. Communication and price: We tried to contact many different contractors to complete this job, and received a handful of quotes. Even though Palat Landscaping was not the lowest bidder (they were in the middle of the pack), their quote was reasonable, and they gave us plenty of information, including an idea of the design, and pictures of similar work done elsewhere, to make an informed decision. In addition, Jason was extremely responsive and far more communicative than the competition. We would gladly hire again.

We are extremely happy with the patio and all of the details. Our friends, family, and neighbors have all been very complimentary. The patio itself really turned out as nice as we could have imagined it. It is well constructed, sturdy, and visually appealing. We love the 'smokeless' fire pit, it was a great suggestion by Jason. The grill we ordered and purchased ourselves and though it was bigger than expected, Jason and his team fit the grill in nicely and it is very stable and well built - plus it looks great with the countertop materials that Jason suggested. Jason also suggested a simple border accent around the parameter of the patio (just inside the seating wall), and that turned out remarkably well. The lighting that is set into the seating wall looks amazing at night and is on a timer so we never have to worry about turning it on/off. There were a couple of unforeseen items that we really wouldn't have been able to anticipate ahead of time. It a blessing in disguise that we got some heavy rain during the project because it allowed us to see how much we needed to account for good water drainage so we decided to add a French drain. Another item was related to how our original deck was poorly constructed, where water was getting trapped in cement blocks located just below the patio door. Jason pumped the water out and sealed/insulated this area very nicely. Neither of these items added significant cost to the project. The small increase in price was more than fair for what we got in return and we are very pleased that Jason had the good judgment to suggest the French drain because we would be dealing with significant water issues otherwise. The yard was torn up quite a bit with the use of the backhoe (and the heavy rains); however, Jason and his team replanted the grass. Some of the grass grew back in the late fall but much of the yard is still mud. We will have a good bit of work to get the yard back to what it was before the work began, but I don't see how this could have been avoided. Jason and his team did start a little later (maybe a week) than he originally estimated and the work did take longer than expected (estimated to be ~2 weeks) because of the additional items mentioned above and some bad weather (heavy rain). But even with those things, the majority of the work was completed in about 4 weeks. We were not always familiar with the schedule that the team had, so sometimes they were later than we would've expected or they didn't come for a day or two because of the weather, needing to get supplies, or personal issues. Sometimes they showed up on a weekend when we weren't expecting them. It all worked out in the end but the next time we work with Jason and his team, I will ask for more details about weekly schedules and daily start/end times so our expectations are appropriately set. Outside of that minor detail, the team was very friendly, pleasant, and extremely easy to work with. We will absolutely work with Jason and his team again - we already are planning to get estimates for rebuilding our front yard retaining wall and extending the outdoor lighting around the house.
Description of Work: We needed to replace an wooden deck with an updated patio. The new patio would be about 350 square foot with a seating wall, two columns, a grill wall/countertop, and a fire pit using primarily pavers and a little natural stone. The seating wall was to include inset lighting and the fire pit included a Zentro smokeless insert. The original contract ($20,000) included removal of existing deck and waste, replanting of any damaged grass, and all labor and materials to be used in the new patio. The original contract amount did not include the lighting and accent border (which we added after the project began) or the two incidental items (water removal and French drain install) discussed below.

It took a while to get the crew to our house (several delays were due to our vacations). Once they started, the work went fairly quickly, and the new walls were 100% acceptable. A little was left to be desired on the cleanup and finishing (example - dirt was not filled in behind walls, tractor tracks left in yard).

Jason gave me a proposal on August 4, 2015. He wanted 50% down and I gave it to him the next day August 5. He told me the work would be done first week of September. It was not done then I was given a date of September 29. I took the day off work to be there to show them where to put the threes and they did not show. Jason said I must have been confused. I had to push for a commitment on a new date which they started on Wednesday October 7. At the end of the day all the trees and shrubs were sitting on the ground not yet planted, and two large piles of topsoil were on top of the grass. Jason said they had to go to another job and would be back "Friday" or "maybe next week". I argued due to rain in the forecast with piles of dirt on the lawn and so they came back October 8 to finish. A few days later I noted the crabapples were crooked and about 8" above the ground. He sent two guys back the next day to replant. I still had to cover the top of the roots with soil. Three of the hemlocks were not upright but were too heavily buried for me to straighten up. Also when they planted the grass they did not roll the topsoil and the mushroom manure they spread on top was in large clumps. I paid him the full balance on October 14, less $120 he deducted for two shrubs that were not delivered. After the grass had grown in, the first week of December, i was picking up the last of the leaves in the yard and ran my push mower over the new grass and it was so lumpy the mower got stuck and was bouncing around. There were also a number of areas where the grass didn't come up. I notified Jason and he said let's leave it till spring and if it is a problem he would come back and even it out. Mid-April 16 2016 I notified Jason the lawn he put in is still lumpy and one of the shrubs he planted is dead. He came to look at the grass and said he did not see a problem. June 1, 2016 he had not addressed either and one of the hemlocks was dead. I sent Jason a picture per his request. June 16 he said he would get around to these issues "hopefully sooner rather than later". July 1 he left the replacement hemlock, and the replacement shrub laying in my front yard, a few handfuls of topsoil and grass seed thrown on the bald spots in his lawn installation which washed away in the rain a couple of days later. I had to cancel my plans that evening and plant the tree so it wouldn't dry out. He claimed i told him to not to enter the back yard. I had only asked they not bring trucks or heavy equipment in the back yard as it took a long time for the lawn to recover after his crew had done their work. When we took the dead tree out it was still wrapped in burlap and baling wire. His response is that is proper planting. On July 17, I notified Jason that the crabapples have huge bark split. He says they are frost-cracked (it's possible, it's just as possible they were left to dry out too much while he had them before they were planted). On October 4 I told him two more of the hemlocks are turning yellow and dropping needles. He says this is seasonal and writes several paragraphs calling me a whiner and the worst customer he's had in 16 years. Jason guaranteed the plants for a year but it is not written in the contract. Also the contract does not hold him to a time frame for completing the job. I strongly advise other people to ask for these things when getting work done as well as the quality of the finished work. This was not a sophisticated job, just putting the trees and shrubs into clear ground - no mulching or other landscaping was done. Jason sent others to do the work, did not inspect the job when completed, it was poorly done, and he complained about being asked to address it.
Description of Work: Three major tasks (total est $6200) Soil and seed a 15'x75' area of front lawn from which a gravel base and drive up to a shed had been removed $1775 Plant 5, 4-5' Hemlocks and 20, 3-gallon shrubs along the property line and 3 crabapple trees ("$150 size") in the middle of the back yard. Response from Palat Landscaping Inc
First thing to note this review comes in directly after he attempted to black mail me for a refund a year and half after the work was completed. This is the first F ever given to my company for quality of work and customer service, I would except it without response if it were true but it is far from the reality and I think my track record on here proves, my customer service and quality of work are up to par. After a year and a half of complaints where I offered solutions provided a replacement tree and did some spot seeding the only 2 things that could be rectified. I would have to say he for sure just likes to complain. First it was about how all the contractors he's been calling are no good as they did not answer the phone when he called, likely this is due to them working during the day when he was making calls I advised him the only reason I answered is because I happen to be driving. Second complaint was the speed In which my workers moved. He was actually mad and yelling in the phone that they move to slow. ( I could not believe what I was hearing my response was just sorry you feel that way but I'm not sure why you care as your not paying them by the hour ) Meanwhile there was a machine digging the holes and all the plants were in the ground on day 1 not weeks later like he said. Long story short, every-time he sent me an email with a complaint or concern I addressed the situation immediately and without annoyance. Some of his complaints are due to the fact we were not done he was complaining before I had a chance to email him or even asking if we were to come back to finish. The only 2 things i could do in the end were to Were to spot seed the front yard as there was a few spots that did not come in, Very normal And I left a tree for replacement as he requested cause he did not want me on his property again but it was OK to do the seeding in the front? One hemlock settled and was not perfectly straight I offered to fix this but again he did not allow me in the back property. He emailed me again about 6 months later complaining about the tree not being straight and that 2 of the crab apples had frost crack on them from winter, I already gave him the information about the frost crack and the best treatment methods also reminded him of my offer to straighten the tree. His emails were honestly quite depressing to read, using language like this is all your fault and your slogan of quality is a lie etc. Last thing to note, the job was in fact inspected by me the owner when completed and I saw no problems or of course they would have been remedied and if it was not done to satisfaction that why did he pay the balance? thanks for reading my response I can promise you will not have a bad experience with my company should we do business after 16 years, Ive never had a problem or unsatisfied customer, unless of course we count this one. Jason did a nice job on the whole project, even when we expanded the project midstream he was able to work with us and see the job through to completion. He is easy to work with and a good listener. Communication was always good and he was always easy to reach. This was an extremely involved job that required interaction with a number of people including landscape architects, Jason was up to the task.

Jason and his crew raised a manhole that was on our property and turned a 15 foot slope into a level backyard. The quality of all the work was exceptional. Jason always was quick to return calls and emails and constantly looked for the best and most economical way for the job to be done. He is extremely knowledgeable and offered many good suggestions. Our daughter had Jason put in several versa lock walls last year and she was equally satisfied.By seeing the work that he did on her yard we did not even get other bids. We absolutely love the work that was done and would definitely recommend Jason.
Description of Work: We had a rather steep backyard that was becoming difficult and dangerous to cut. Jason met with us several times and walked the yard determining what our best options would be. In the end we had a huge timber wall added to the side of a hill, added a wall across the back of the yard, terraced the upper yard with a wall and added a large paver patio.

Jason and his team were exceptional. First, he was the least expensive of several quotes I received. Then, as we started the job, Jason helped us design the backyard from the ground up, down to the smallest detail. He has a good sense for aesthetics and functionality. As we progressed, largely figuring out what we wanted as we went (we being the homeowners), Jason was patient and never seemed annoyed when we made changes. He was extremely accommodating. He also seemed to genuinely care about the outcome of the job and took pride in making sure we were satisfied. This was especially evident after the job was completed; when we had little tweaks (seeding dead spots on the lawn, for example), he was always there to do them, well after we had paid our final balance. I would happily work with Jason again - can't recommend him highly enough!

I sent a request for estimate via Angie's list and Jason replied within a day, he walked the property (large corner lot with beds on all four sides of home) with me to discuss work. Jason is down to earth, eager and knowledgeable. He recommended a few areas of concentration and provided a written estimate within a few days. I accepted the estimate and he and his team completed the work within two days. They were punctual, efficient, and thorough. Jason is very accommodating and customer "focused"!! Extremely pleased, our property looks great!

JASON PALAT DID AN EXCELLENT JOB WITH THE MULCH AND EDGING PROJECT. WE SET A DATE IT WAS DONE ON A TIME SCHEDULE WE AGREED TO WITH MODIFICATION FOR UNUSUALLY WET WEATHER. JASON STAYED IN TOUCH WITH EMAIL. CALL AND LEAVE A QUESTION ON HIS PHONE AND HE ANSWERS THAT DAY. AT THE INITIAL VISIT HE ALSO NOTICED THAT OUR LAMPUS WALL WAS CRUMBLING AND WE THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WALL FOR $15,000. JASON STUDIED THE WALL AND DETERMINED THAT MOST OF IT WAS SOLID AND ONLY ABOUT 30 CAPS NEEDED REPLACED AND A FEW PIECES USED FOR STEPS. THE END RESULT WAS A BEAUTIFUL REPAIR THAT STARTED AFTER I WENT TO WORK THAT DAY AND WAS COMPLETED WHEN I RETURNED HOME THAT NIGHT. WE SAVED A FORTUNE USING JASON'S IDEA AND HIS PROFESSIONAL WORK. NOW THAT SPRING HIS HERE AND IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO DO THIS KIND OF WORK AND A LOT MORE DIFFERENT TYPES OF WORK FOR YOUR LANDSCAPING I RECOMMEND JASON. WE'LL USE HIM AGAIN THIS YEAR.

This review is rather late in coming, but I wanted to be sure to provide this review for Palat Landscaping, better late than never. Jason Palat replaced an old railway timber retaining wall with a versa lok wall that is shared with a neighbor. We received numerous bids on the job, and Jason's bid was very competitive. He was extremely responsive in providing the bid, arrived only two weeks past his estimated timeframe (which is good for outdoor contractors dependent on weather conditions) and worked well with both parties involved. The job turned out to be rather complicated as there was not much room between the two houses to get his equipment in. He and his crew had to haul the heavy blocks by hand which added significant effort and more time to the job. But the wall they built is absolutely beautiful! It turned out much nicer than we expected, and we were very impressed with the herculean effort that went into its construction. Despite the scope of the job, he and his crew finished within a week. We also hired Jason to build a round patio in our backyard surrounded by river rock to solve a drainage issue in our backyard. We had a number of landscapers suggest solutions to the problem, often more elaborate and costly, but Jason's solution was simple, straightforward and did the trick. Now we have a beautiful patio and we aren't wading in a swamp. We will use Jason any time we need hard landscaping solutions!

Jason and amazing crew completed two projects for me. First we had them design and install a front walkway. Jason was meticulous in ensuring the walkway was level and very creative in his design (we had some curves and different colors bricks). Also, Jason is also a good communicator, which is very unusual in the contractor business. He would let me know the schedule so there weren?t any surprises. Because he did such a great job on the front walkway, I hired him for our backyard patio. This project was about four times as big as the front walk and included demolishing and removing the existing patio (a huge, back breaking job), building a fire pit with a curved wall (slightly complicated), designing and installing the actual patio, and installing a built in grill and smoker. Both the fire pit and the grill have gas lines. The project took a lot of planning and creativity and Jason really spent a lot of time working through the details with me. He was willing to change things a long the way when needed/requested. Jason and his crew worked long hours and even worked on a Saturday to get the project done. After the patio was completely installed, Jason did an amazing job of fixing the landscaping, planting grass, fixing the landscape lighting and power washing the driveway. Jason?s creativity with landscape/patio design, his attention to detail and his strong communication skills make him a contractor that I highly recommend as well as someone I will hire again.

Iwas looking to redo my front entrance walkway/rear patio in the early spring and Jason Palat was the first to reach out and schedule a quote. He was punctual, professional and provided a timely and reasonable estimate on the work. He provided a well thought out plan that offered several suggestions that I was not thinking of. These were not all add ons and nice to haves, but practical solutions to my space limitations and issues. Palat Landscaping kept me in the loop as to the timing of the work to be performed and were able to lock in a solid start date two weeks prior to the start of the job. This is quite difficult given the rainy summer we had this year. Once the project started, the team showed up on time every day during the 5 weeks of work. They were curtious, professional and cleaned up after themselves on a regular basis. They had top rated equipment and used quality masonary stones Minor construction issues arose during the construction as they always will. Palat Landscaping seemed to always have several good options for the difficulties encountered, which demonstrated the team's experience and expertise. The best part, was that there were not large extra bills and add ons at the end. Jason stuck to his original quote and the only "add on's" were for design changes we made during the project. Our outdoor living space includes a seated fire pit area, and outdoor kitchen (grill and smoker combo) and a ton of living space near the house. We have had several parties since the completion of the constructions and our friends and family have not stopped raving about the fabulous job Jason and his team did. In fact, my neighbors watched the project as it progressed and were so impressed with the day to day constructions protocols Jason and his team showed and with the final results, they too hired Jason for a front walkway and outdoor patio engagement. Two months after the job has been complete, it still looks fantastic. The family is loving the fire pit and the fact that I am always outside using the gas grill and smoker.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced my front entrance way, back patio and created an outdoor kitchen and living space.

Jason and his team were FANTASTIC. We have a transformed yard, everything is beautiful, and the price for the amount of work we had done was quite reasonable, compared to the other estimates we received. Our backyard is a very steep hill and presented a real challenge, and Jason worked with us to come up with a perfect vision for the space. Instead of the squishy, boggy patch of grass we used to have just outside our back door, we now have a beautiful and enormous patio, with a seating wall, that's going to be where we spend all our time in the warmer months. We had rickety, unsafe steps leading up the hill in back to our parking area, and a scraggly lawn, and now we have new, secure steps that match the patio very nicely, new plantings and mulch on the steepest part of the hill, and brand-new grass that came in quickly and well. Since we were having such a large job done in back, Jason worked with us to come up with fixes for the front of our house that would be reasonable, and that too is much improved. Jason was a pleasure to deal with in every respect, always prompt and responsive. We could not be happier!
Description of Work: Installed a huge new patio, new seating wall, new outdoor steps, new lawn, and ivy plantings in our backyard; pachysandra plantings and a new patch of sidewalk in front of our house; new LED lighting for front and back.

Jason and his team did a great job and Jason was absolutely great to work with!! I am so thankful for his help! I have been searching for someone to rebuild the retaining wall on the side of my house--a wall that's been rotting away since before my husband and I moved in three years ago--and I was desperately trying to find someone who would be able to do the job before winter. I'd had a contractor set, but they ended up having to bail out at the last minute due to their current workload. That was fine, until I took on the task of trying to find someone else to hire---of the 6 landscapers/contractors I emailed/phoned, NO ONE got back to me to even say that they were too busy to take on the work---no one except Jason. He emailed me back the day after I filled out a quote form on his website and was punctual and prompt in every single email/phone call I had with him. He came out to see firsthand what we needed done; listened to our concerns; quoted a very reasonable price and timeframe; and did the work promptly and on-schedule. The wall looks great and I couldn't ask for anything more. Jason's professionalism and courtesy really made him stand out and I'll be sure to recommend him/rehire him in the future!

Jason and his team came in and replaced my retaining wall as well as removed a stump in my front yard. Overall the project was a lot of fun to work with Jason, the yard looks great and Jason had a lot of great recommendations during the project. Jason worked with the elements and showed when it was raining and worked as many days as he could until the job was done and done to my liking. I really enjoyed working with him and his crew. I would highly recommend them again and will use them again at some point in the near future.
