We originally contracted D.J. Cross just to clean our fireplace and oil heater chimneys but they discovered that the Terra Cotta tile lining the flue for the oil heather had broken away and nearly blocked the entire flue. They told us it would not be safe to turn the oil heater back on because of the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning. They were able to squeeze us into their schedule to reline the flue three days later. All the workmen on both visits were prompt and professional and cleaned up after themselves. Because of the emergency nature of the situation we didn't have a chance to "shop around" and sort of felt like we had to pay whatever they said it would cost; but afterward I checked Angie's List for similar service and their price seemed to be in the ballpark. Still, it would have been nice to have received an itemization of the expense on the invoice.

Workers were on time, polite, neat and efficient. They took time to explain the results of their inspections and make recommendations for future maintenance.

I am very impressed with this company. I received an appointment confirmation call from the company the day before they were scheduled to arrive. The two chimney sweepers, Jon and Jim, were punctual, extremely polite, introduced themselves by name, and were very careful with my belongings, spreading cloths to protect the carpeting. Jon offered to inspect my heater vent and dryer vent for fire safety, went into the basement to check on the construction of the hearth, and advised me on how to prevent fire hazards. The chimney and firebox had not been cleaned since we built the house in 1989, and I am grateful for the great-looking fireplace and the peace of mind for preventing a potential chimney fire. I plan to have them come back and install a chimney cap.

Excellent. The two crew members who came to the house were very professional in their work and easy to talk to. They seemed careful and thorough in their work. I was able to observe some of the work (from afar, since I was not going to climb up three stories to the roof!) and I was impressed. I am very confident in the work they do.

Excellent work. Company called 1-2 days before to confirm appointment and time. Arrived on time, very professional. Cleaned up after work finished. Also did some repointing around chimney and chimney cap.

Excellent service. This company uses a camera to do a thorough inspection of the inside of the chimney from top to bottom. Other chimney sweeps had told us that our chimney was fine when it obviously is not. D J Cross gave us a lot of information about chimney inspections, chimney deterioration, and prevention. This is the first chimney company we have used who knows what they are doing. They are thorough and knowledgeable, and very attuned to safety, which is a big plus in my estimation.
