The salesman, Bryan (I think) came out and looked at the job. He provided me with several different options to fit my budget. I had also gotten another estimate from a different company and was going to go with them since I was dealing directly with the owner/operator of the business who would actually be doing the work and not a salesman like American Heating had. However before I made my final decision, Bryan called and told me he had an even more affordable option than the 3 he had already given me. He provided me with the details and I researched the AC and Furnace unit (a Goodman) and found that it hadn't gotten good reviews. Bryan told me that most of the problems people have with the unit comes from faulty installation and that his company installs many Goodman brand units. He also pointed out that the manufacture backed their product with an unprecedented 10 year Parts AND 10 yr Labor Warranty and that they wouldn't do that if they didn't trust their products. It made sense so I decided to go with American Heating after getting a commitment that he could install the unit immediately. He said he had room for an installation the following week. Told me it usually took 2 days so plan on being available on Wed and Thursday. The men came out on Wednesday as promised and at the end of the day told me it wasn't finished. I expected them back the next day (I took off from work) but they never showed up. When I called, they said they couldn't come out until Friday (so I took another day off from work). They didn't show up on Friday until 3:30 PM, they sat in their truck eating lunch for an hour, worked for 30 minutes and then said they'd be back "sometime next week". I had to take off two more days. Finally, the installation was complete after 5 days. However, I noticed that when they hooked up the units, rather than adding a new breaker to the electrical box that I had upgraded for this purpose (which had plenty of open slots to add new breakers) they unhooked my dryer without telling me and put the unit on that breaker. When I brought this to their attention the two workers that had been left to finish up the job on days 4 and 5 had no idea how to fix the problem. I had to pay my electrician who had upgraded my service a few weeks before fix their screw up. NOW---FAST-FORWARD one year later American Heating of Delco is out of business. Fortunately for me another company, Service Today, brought them out and is servicing their customers because I did have problems when I went to turn on my 11 month old AC unit. The fan started but it wouldn't blow cold. Turns out somehow there was a leak in the line and Service Today had to recharge the unit and fix the leak (in my less than 1 year old AC unit) I'm glad this company went out of business. I understand the original owner was up in age and turned it over to people who basically ran it into the ground and tarnished the reputation the original owner had built over decades of servicing the community. RIP American Heating Of Delco. I hope never to see your salesman or workers again. .......................................................................................UPDATE: 7/14/2014 - I had to have a Repair Tech out for the 2nd time in ONE year because this "fantastic" GOODMAN AC unit stopped working. The tech told me the compressor was bad. How the h*** does a compressor go bad in a 1 year old Central AC unit that has only been used for a total of 5 months?
Description of Work: Installed Central Air Installed A New Furnace Installed A Chimney Liner . WARNING: Do NOT Buy GOODMAN Products. They are junk. My Central AC unit is 1 year old now and was used for just 5 months when the compressor went and had to be replaced. I also found out yesterday (7/14/2014) that there is a class action lawsuit against GOODMAN for allegedly selling defective Central AC Units. Something about the coils being too thin which is causing the refrigerant to leak.

Response from American Heating Of Delaware County
[Member Name], I am very sorry to hear that you were so displeased with the service that you received from American Heating. I can assure you that the equipment you purchased is a fantastic system. I wish you had let us know your frustrations while this was going on so that we could have addressed them and made it right for you. Please know that customer service was extremely important to us as you can see with my response even after we are no longer in business. This type of service is uncommon for us as noted by the other reviews on AngiesList. I am happy that Service Today was able to get you taken care of but very upset at the poor taste American Heating left in your mouth. For that, [Member Name], I am truly sorry. Your salesman, -Bryan

The repair man, Ryan, arrived on time, was extremely professional and courteous. The York air conditioning unit that needed repairs is over 20 years old. When it stopped running, I was sure it was 'over'. But Ryan was very diligent in checking everything out and determined the problem was with the capacitor. Once that part was replaced the unit started up and has been running fine since. I was very impressed and did ask about having my furnace scheduled for the annual tune-up. It is less than 2 years old but it is an oil fired boiler system which other than propane is the only type I can have in my area since there is no gas line in the vicinity. Ryan said that their company doesn't service this type of unit. But, for any air conditioning issues in the future, I will definitely call upon American and will recommend them to friends and family.

They did an excellent job and I am happy that they came out and showed me how to do the filter. The person that came out was very helpful, prompt and was a very nice service person. The customer service was very good; they set up the appointment promptly. I appreciate the work they did.
Description of Work: I used American Heating of Delaware County to check out my heater. It was just a service call; the filter needed cleaning, which I did not realize.

I was paying out the rear for oil heat in a house i just bought and wanted a heat pump, not to mention a central AC for the summer. I got a few estimates and they were all within $1000 of eachother. From the get go I really liked the American Heating team. Bryan was great to work with, EXTREMELY responsive, and really seemed to want to work with me to get the business. They weren't initally the best price but I walked them through some other bids I had received and they matched the best price. They installed the units and ducts over a few days, within a week or 2 of the contract. A few hiccups here and there as would always be the case, but nothing insurmountable and no and quot;additionaland quot; or and quot;hiddenand quot; charges. Chris and Frank on the install team were professional and diligent. Chris showed me the thermostat system and how to operate it, and gave us some tips on how to make the system work efficiently. They also helped me get rebates from PECO and the YORK equipment factory. I have recommended American Heating and AC to friends and relatives already. I would use them again. Great experience. In March I saved about $100 on my heating bill since I moved off oil to a heat pump.
Description of Work: Full house heating and AC unit installed. New interior ducts throughout, inside/outside equipment, intakes, wiring, etc.

American Heating of Delaware County did an outstanding job. This was a big job, that they handled easily. I have been very impressed and pleased with their work. I was happy that the required additional work was priced fairly and not overpriced. This was a big job, but I would not hesitate to call them for a small job, or routine maintenance as well. For me it is important to have the job done right the first time and that is what they did. I really didn't have have to worry once they began the job. Overall, clean up was excellent, equipment removal was excellent, equipment install was excellent, timing and followup was excellent! I'll be calling them back when I need another estimate for other jobs large or small.
Description of Work: American Heating of Delaware County did an outstanding job. They had to remove an old (50 year) oil heater, oil tank, install chimney liner, install hot water heater, install new gas furnace (converted to gas from oil), clean up from all the chimney soot, etc. No doubt this was big job.

Installation: To say there weren't any snags in the installation would be lying. We knew there would be issues, but as previously mentioned, the problems and options were discussed and solutions found. Chris, Brian and John were very patient, thorough and dedicated to getting the job done right and with a high level of quality even in very confined spaces with tight clearances. Scheduling: We began the process in early November, but with holidays, delays and duty schedules (we are an active duty family), it was what could be scheduled. Just because this winter has been relatively mild thus far does not mean that every person who had a minor heating issue or major emergency didn't call these guys for a rescue! As a homeowner, we understand that an emergency call with no heat trumps an installation in a home with a fully functional existing heating system. (Remember we had working baseboard electric). The guys at American Heating were excellent and upfront with their communications. Brian called us and asked for our approval to suspend our job prior to commiting to any and quot;rescueand quot;. As we appreciated their candor, so did American Heating appreciated our patience, and ultimately payed for our local permit!!! It was an unexpected gesture yet, greatly appreciated. Final Product: We ended up installing a York, modulating, 98% efficient gas fired furnace with a 3 ton, 16 SEER puron condensing (A/C) unit, a Honeywell electronic air cleaner and completely new and sealed ductwork to supply the entire house. The ductwork was very tricky as the and quot;newerand quot; section of the house was not included on the central A/C. The difference in our home is profound! With the electic baseboard heat, each room was a different temperature regardless of consistant thermostat settings. With the new system, the entire how is warm and at a consistent temperature. Today our PECO electric/gas bill arrived. Even though the unit has not been installed for a full billing cycle, we are already seeing a drastic reduction in usage vs. cost. Our gas usage has gone up by 75%, but our KW/h has dropped by over a third, even taking into account a milder weather pattern. Comparison is not apples to apples, but we estimate that this unit will more than pay for itself within 4 years at present gas and electric rates. When adding the PECO and federal tax rebates to the projected monthly savings, the new system could techinically pay for itself even sooner.
Description of Work: The crew at Amercian Heating were fantastic from the intial contact with Darlene(secretary) in the office to the completion of the work. We interviewed four local contractors. American Heating was the only one to arrive at the scheduled estimate visit with both a sales rep (Brian) and the technician, (Chris) who would actually be doing the work. So, the estimate was not just a sales pitch, but a true "Can we do this?" evaluation. The communication back and forth between us and American Heating was incredible throughout the entire process including numerous calls to and from the office to add/change/question items in the proposal/work order to scheduling concerns. The job was completed more than three weeks ago and yet I had a question today and was treated as if I was an old friend. Goal: We wanted to install in a gas furnace into a house that had individial room controlled electric baseboard heat. We also wanted to add a central A/C system that actually provided cooling to every room, rather than requiring several window units. In addition to the fact that there was only one installed duct line in the entire house, there is also no space in the basement for a furnace. The solution that we all came up with was to install the furnace in the attic and cobine it with a new A/C system, then run ducting throughout the house to supply every room. The challenging factor was that our house was built in the 50's, with several additions built on. What made the difference for us above the other estimates was that Chris of American Heating cut, measured, and fabricated all the ducting to be used in our home himself. There was no secondary contractor involved. If something needed changing or an addition piece was needed, there was no lag time ordering it and waiting for delivery. Chris did it all! Much of this job was "fabricate and create as you go" since we didn't know what we would find inside the walls - and problems did arise. The other thing that we really appreciated and that set them apart was that when problems came up, Chris and John asked for our input and ideas knowing that we had done some minor remodeling since moving into the house. We had found a few paths and spaces within the walls that they would never have known about or would have been able to utilize had they not included us when formulating a new strategy. Consulting with us saved us fixing or replacing much of the drywall in the house. Up front we were told that American Heating is an HVAC contractor, and not a licensed/bonded carpenter/drywaller. They have the skills to do drywall, but do not do so. They told us right away that we would have to find someone to make any repairs to the walls after they were finished. They promised to keep the damage as minimal as possible when installing the ductwork, but that there would be some damage. We have no problem doing drywall, so we promptly agreed. If you have existing ductwork, you will not have a problem with this issue. As we never had ANY ductwork (except for that one short run that they were able to use), cutting into walls was a necessary evil to get the ducting to the lower level.

I spent $75 on the service. I liked the work that they did. The man that came out was very polite and very courteous. He wiped his feet before he entered my house. He went down the stairs to take a look at the heater and got the part up that had to be replaced. He showed and explained what the part did. He also showed me what had happened to it. He went to his truck and got another part in order to replace it. The heater worked fine after replacing the part. Everything was great. However, the only problem I had with this company was that the secretary had forgotten to tell the workers about the problem I had. I had called the secretary in order to have a serviceman come out and look at my heater. She completely forgot to tell the serviceman about my call. So, I was without heat for many hours. She does that all the time. She forgets about the calls. Hopefully, they would have replaced her by now as there were many complaints against her. Otherwise, the company is fine. I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used American Heating of Delaware County, six months ago. They fixed my heater at that time.

The actual installation of the heater went well. The men who were doing the work were excellent. They cleaned up after themselves and took everything with them. Dealing with the owner of the company was not as good. Even though my landlord had called him to discuss the estimate, on the day they were suppose to install the heater, the owner called to ask for contact information for my landlord. I told him I had a check for half of the cost and my landlord would get me the other half within a day. They did install the heater but only after speaking with my landlord's wife who assured them they would be paid
Description of Work: My oil heater broke down and was red tagged by the oil company. I contacted several companies for estimates and we decided to replace the oil heater with a gas heater as we already had a gas hot water heater.
