I don't think I have ever seen such a poor carpentry job. The walls were built on a concrete base, but he did not use sill seal between the concrete & the sill, nor did he use treated lumber. There were gaps in many places; between the concrete & the sill, between the framing boards, and the OSB was not tight to the framework. He did not use house wrap to seal out drafts. The new walls were not attached properly to the existing house, leaving gaps. There were gaps at the top & bottom of the framework, appearing that the OSB was cut too short. (walls are only 7 1/2" high). The J-channel at the base of the wall was not level on one side (looked like a banana). Nails were not completely driven into the joists - left sticking out as much as 1/2". I WOULD NOT HIRE THIS GUY TO BUILD EVEN A DOG HOUSE !!

Response from JOHN PETRUSO BUILDING
In response to your letter of March 19,2013 I would like to set the record straight. We were hired to construct 3 walls to enclose a 12’ x 8’ porch. The porch is 103 years old. We removed the existing porch post and supported the existing roof to allow the masonry contractor to pour a new floor, what was contracted by the homeowner. After the mason finished his project we came in to construct 3 walls, 2-8’ walls and 1-12’ wall. The wall were set on a 103 year old cinder block foundation not a new poured concrete slab as the home owner as listed in her complaint. The exterior walls were constructed to a 103 year old roof and the sheeting was fitted to the existing structure as best as could be. The 4’ x 8’ sheets with a factory edge were installed to the 103 year existing roof, and yes there were hair line gaps between the sheeting and the roof framing, but is it the new sheeting or the 103 year old roof frame. The comment that we had nails sticking ½” is nonsense, we use an air nailer that shoots nails with 135# pressure and if there were any nails that did not sink we would have seen them when we installed the fan fold wrap on the exterior. Now the complaint said we did not use house wrap, I have used a fan fold siding underlayment for the past 25 years and it is a very good underlayment. The fact that we had not taped the seams on the fan fold is that we were not done. We do not tape the seams and expose them to the Edinboro, PA. Winter weather until we were ready to install the finish siding. Now I am out $800.00 in labor cost and the home owner has had the job finished with the supplies what were furnished by my company. The home owner has paid $2300.00 and the cost of materials is $2274.50. In my opinion we were removed from the project because this person thinks she knows more than her contractor and wanted to get her project constructed for nothing out of pocket. I have been in the contracting business for 25 years and I have 25 years of happy, satisfied customers and I find it very hard to imagine there can be these problems on a simple porch enclosure.
