Member, Thank you for talking with me on the phone today. I am very pleased that after all of the intense rain you "did not have a drop of water." I also appreciate why you said the experience was "okay." Everything related to waterproofing was fine, but the phone line that had to be run was the issue. Admittedly, as a waterproofing company, running phone lines in odd cases is not our forte. I am glad that things were resolved in a satisfactory manner in the end.

This was the first Angie's List deal we purchased. We had just bought a foreclosure home, and I decided $49 was reasonable to get an idea of what was needed in the basement. I didn't realize how serious Keystone was about meeting with both my husband and I. My husband works at night, I work during the day, and we take turns watching our daughter. On the day of the appointment, my husband was trying to get some sleep, so I decided to handle the appointment alone. (I often tackle these types of situations myself with no problem.) When Aaron arrived, he gave me the choice of rescheduling the appointment or having my husband join us. Meeting with only me was not an option. My husband and I found that infuriating. After Aaron walked us through the analysis, he gave us a few options, all of which were more expensive than we were expecting. Our immediate problem was a crack in the front porch that was leaking water into the basement. Aaron showed us solutions for that and other problem areas, but we decided not to go with Keystone. As I said, all of the options were too expensive, even with discounts for being an Angie's List member and for scheduling the job right then. I understand that to make a basement 100% waterproof it will cost money, but it just wasn't in our budget. It was helpful to get an idea of what type of work the basement needed and to get an estimate, but if I had to do it again I wouldn't pay $49 for it. Now that we have more experience dealing with contractors/businesses, we realize that there are good ones out there who still give free estimates. This, plus both of us being forced to attend the analysis is why we give the overall experience a C.
Description of Work: Met with Aaron for the $49 basement waterproofing inspection and analysis deal.

James Krall from Keystone came on a Friday night (right at the appointed time) to inspect our basement to determine the cause of recent water in the basement. After a careful inspection inside and outside, he determined that the cause was due to high water on the uphill side of the house during recent heavy rains. He showed how the brickwork extends two courses underground on that side and that the brickwork is not really meant to be watertight. He suggested a few low cost improvements to reduce the likelihood of this happening again (we've never had this happen before in 26 years in this house). He did not suggest any expensive unnecessary repairs. His inspection and suggestions were all done for free.

We ended up using them and they are currently doing the work for foundation and basement waterproofing. Their price is reasonable because we thought it was less than what we thought it would be. My husband handled most of it but I know he felt most comfortable having met with all of them. He felt that they were very honest, very good about explaining all the processes and what would need to be done and what the contingencies would be like if things go perfectly this what happens but this are all the problems that could come up because they don't know until they do the dating and that kind of thing so I think they are very good giving this well informed picture of what was going to take place.

After the initial inspection it was determined that our frequent basement flooding issues required the installation of an internal french drain. Keystone came promptly and the inspector/salesman was very cordial and professional. The work was able to be scheduled quickly due to another client cancellation and we were offered a price discount if we took this upcoming appointment. during the initial meeting. The work was done quickly over a 2 day period. There was a lot of preparatory work that we had to do to clear the three sides of our house of all shelves, food, equipment, etc. so that they could dig for the french drain. In general Keystone did a very nice job on the project and the drain / pump seem to be working well. With the intense rain we had at our house last week there was not a drop of water in the basement so the product is working as advertised. The crew was friendly and punctual and cleaned up as promised I have 2 small points that I was not entirely happy with about the project and working with Keystone: 1) I did not receive a single follow-up call or email from the salesman or anyone else at the company. For a large job of this size/cost I was disappointed that no-one followed up to see if we were happy with the work, if everything was ok, etc. 2) I was a little disappointed with the way a few of the 'finishing' items that were done by the crew. In general they cleaned up as promised and kept dust to a minimum but there was more work left for our family that I had anticipated. The pump was not 'wired' into our existing wiring and they just connected it with an extension cord which was left on the garage floor. i was responsible for routing the cord up and out of the way. The pump is a 'smart pump' which connects to your phone line and can call Keystone and your own phone number if there is a malfunction. The crew ran the phone line haphazardly across the garage and through an open door to the nearest outlet so that when the door is closed it literally pinches on the phone line. And the crew was a bit rough taking off molding and removing my workbench so that it required extra work for me to reconstruct and resinstall those items. I just got the sense that the crew is paid to finish the job quickly and they were cutting corners to get done and move on to the next job. The critical item was resolving the water issue which Keystone did but I was just a little disappointed in their finish and cleanup work especially for a job fo this size / cost.

(Member name removed), I am pleased to hear that after the intense rains we have been having that your home is dry. I am also pleased that everything is running as it should. I did, however, want to make one note about the electrical. As stated in your contract any situation where there is a need for an electrician for installation above the norm that is the responsibility of the homeowner. There are certain applications that require a master electrician (Code Mandate) to perform the service. Please refer to the electrical section. I hope that this helps. Thank you.

Not well at all. I purchased a deal from Angie's list for a basement analysis and $750 credit for structural upgrades. The representative came out on 7/6/13. He said I would receive a write up and estimate that night. I have not received it. I called on 7/9/13 to inquire and was told that someone from service would get back to me. I still have received nothing and have heard nothing. At this point, this was a mere estimate which should have been free, thus I am requesting a refund of my money. Also, the representative discussed his observations (there was no evidence of water in my house except what had come in through a hurricane door) and suggested recommendations with a quote and proposed service date. I was told that the $750 credit would not apply. He then asked to go outside to make a phone call to get the service date accelerated. When he returned, he told me that what he recommended would not be covered under warranty. He went on to propose something that would be under warranty; however, with an additional cost and would require work to the inside of my house where there was no evidence of water and could pose issues with radon. What a scam!!!! I lost all confidence and trust in this company at that point and it is supported by the fact that no one will call me back. I do plan to follow up with Angie's List. REFUND MY MONEY!!! 10/6/2013-- I have had subsequent reviews by other waterproofing companies that would dispute the provider assessment and response to my post. Also, if a provider can't produce a report when at the time of the service---honest notes and assessment-- as requested, it is very suspicious that they can be produced because they don't like the evaluation of a customer. Had the report been provided for proper evaluation against other provider estimates, this would not have been a problem. After a review of my complaint, Angie's list refunded my money. Thank you Angie's List.

Member...and to all of those reading this review, I am very please to respond to this review. I do hope that all who are reading this pay special attention to what I have to say in response. It is true that this "member" purchased a "Big Deal" from Angie's List. It is true that we visited the home to evaluate the problem. It is also true that we DID NOT provide you with a written report. This member is selling their home and they have a serious water problem. The problem is significant. So significant is the problem that if a prospective buyer discovers the true size and scope they may not longer consider buying the house. When we arrived at the home the "member" informed us that the basement had never leaked and that an "open basement door" caused the flooding. It took only a moment to see past water damage and that this claim was not true. Furthermore, the "member" was pressuring our firm to write down that this was a "one time problem" and that is not significant. Pennsylvania has a Full Disclosure Law where if you are selling a home the seller of the home MUST give an honest assessment of the condition of the home. The "member" purchased the Big Deal so that they would get a written report and then wanted our company to write a review that was not accurate...WHICH WE REFUSED...AND STILL DO REFUSE TO DO. When we refused to provide the false report the "member" got upset and posted this "F" report and asked for their money back. In regard to money back...Angie's List charged your card and holds the money. Only they can issue the refund and you have my 100% cooperation in that matter. I agree that your money should be returned posthaste. In regard to the situation with the "F" report, Angie's List tells me that this report must stay up as this is a representation of "how you feel about our company." Even though we do not agree that we should be penalized for not providing a false report I guess we will have to live with it. With that said, we have been told by Angie's List that we may also post how we feel in regard to the interaction with the "member." There is a lot I would like to say but I will remain professional. With that said, it is very common for a home to be sold and the new, unsuspecting homeowner to call us after a flood. Whenever we schedule an appointment we always cross-reference the address to see if we were out in the past. In certain cases we have been compelled to turn over our records to assist the prosecution when the matter of a fraudulent disclosure statement goes to court. In some cases the records are detailed and helpful. In others the records are sparse and useless. I will ensure that the record for this matter is robust and very helpful should it be needed in the future.

Seth , the salesman, explained all the work to be done. one side wall of the garage, back wall of garage and cellar. Then two other walls in the cellar for a total of approx 82 ft. Seth said the work could take 2 or 3 days. The waterproofing consisted of an internal french drain along the walls. They completed the work in 2 days, but I do believe they rushed to accomplish that. The cement work was very sloppy. We were supposed to have 2 cleanouts put in, but there's only one. The lid of the cleanout is partially cemented to the floor. Guess we'll have to chip that away. Cement is pushed against the convection ports also. I put in a call to Seth about an Angie's list discount and never heard from him. Even when he said "I'll call you right back" Sure !! My son used Baker waterproofing for his cellar. I'll vote for them. The cement work looked very professional and well done. In fact, the Baker system was more pleasing to the eye. To the Keystone owners; take some time out and come back and look at some of the work that's being done. Don't you have a supervisor that checks anything. How about a simple phone call asking if we're pleased with the work, or if there's any problems. A company that takes pride in their work will do that.

The crew was prompt, efficient, and answered all questions we had. Installation took about 3 days along three walls of the house that are below ground level. Tied the sump pump drain into existing drainage pipes. A few days after the completion of the work, there was a heavy rain and we did notice a wet spot in one corner where work had been done. We contacted Keystone immediately, and they reviewed the issue and sent one of the crew members out to fix the problem the next day. There have been no further issues, even with some rainy seasons since then. I would recommend Keystone Basement to anyone else needing similar work done to their homes.

I think that they are another major player in this market. They were very professional and a very thorough company. Thank you so much for the kind review. I think this review will help a lot of people understand who Keystone is and what we are about. Keystone Basement Systems has extremely educated inspectors with superior industry product and service knowledge. We marry this with a desire to ONLY install quality solutions for our clients. By providing tailored solutions specific to each home we are able to provide solutions that are the best for the home and control cost at the same time. I personally love what I do. Foundation problems are misunderstood by most homeowners. I love that we are able to diagnose and issue, explain the complex in general terms and offer a "REAL" solution to a issue. We do not bend to the pressure to cheapen our system to lower our price. Rather we stay on the cutting edge of quality products and methods and provide tailored repairs to make the project investment fair and a great value to our clients. In short, we do great work. Thank you for the kind words.

The inspection was done by one of your technicians, Jim K., who proved to be very capable and thorough. He carefully checked off several items that he found in need of repair under "Wet Basements, Structural Damage, Specs, and Cause of Wet Basement." He explained in detail what needs to be done to correct the problems to my son, his wife, and their son who has just received a degree in Sustainable Construction and Architecture from Penn College of Technology, and was very interested in the inspection process. As expected, it is a costly repair job and will require time to consider how and when we can proceed. Keystone has been in touch with my son since the inspection to follow through when and if he is able to enter into a contract with them. Since they have not performed the work, my review to share with your Band of Neighbors may seem to be incomplete. However, because the required work is both extensive and expensive, it may be quite some time before it is done, if at all, and may be done in time-consuming stages. As stated, we both were more than satisfied with the service and evaluation of your provider.
Description of Work: Because of time constraints on our part, we were unable to schedule this service until May 23. I had several conversations with Keystone Basement Services, and all were very positive, especially with Marcia Pabis. They were quite willing to work with us on a date for the service to be performed and were willing to perform the service at my son's home at a distant location.. I purchased it as a gift for him..

They came out and did an inspection and took a picture. They told me that the reason I had cracks in my foundation was because the downspouts were not connected to the French drains underneath the house to pump the water away. In order to stop further damage, they told me they would need to run French drains from each of the downspouts out fairly far, and they quoted me a price for 2500 dollars. I told them I was selling the house and I didn’t want to spend that much money on the project. They called me back to tell me they wanted to find a way to help me, and then they sent the same guy out again to give me a harder sales pitch for the same thing for the same price, which I found frustrating. I ended up getting an offer on the house and had to have the fire department come out to make sure everything was flowing into the sewer correctly. They told me there was no problem. I asked them what they thought the cracks in the foundation were from. They told me that bricks at the bottom would be cracked if the cracks were due to water damage. They told me it was due to the house settling. I really don’t know who to trust, but I know the guys from the fire department had no financial interest in telling me what they did. I ended up just telling the people who bought the house what both parties had told me and let them make an informed decision on their own.

***Please Read*** The drain pipes that we contend are not working are your footer drains...which are 8 feet under ground. The drains you had tested by the fire department are your sewer/downspout lines...these are two completely different systems that are not connected! The man at the fire department is correct that "water" caused the brick damage...a french drain is used to correct this type of water damage! In closing I would like to make myself personally available to explain this further. I hate to receive a "C" grade for this type of error.

The review went well. Mostly a sales angle to prepare the sales of the internal frnach drain. No interest in helping with the root cause problem (explained as cost prohibitive). The internal drain (wrong solution anyway) offered for 3x the price of another Angie's list "A" graded service provider. Offered a sump-pum for $2500 or even $2700 with the explanation those pumps have a uProcessor and can "call you" if there is a problem. Similar approach as if you want to kill a fly with an air missle. Off the chart, out of the scope - and it seems as a sales pitch for those who don't knwo better.
Description of Work: Visit for a free consultation and discussion about the humidity/water in the basement. The issue is with the foundation wall (outisde insulation, 20yrs old) and the rain water that makes the walls humid.

After reviewing the paperwork and the 23 photos of your basement it does appear that you have a water problem. Additionally, you called us because you have a water problem. In the end we only offer quality solutions. We do not dabble in half-measures or perform work that will last for a couple of months. Everything we do is a permanent solution...and we do not apologize for that philosophy. At the end of the day, you are judged by the success of your work..and our work is exceptional. In closing, if one is so inclined, they can read over 40 reports on Angie's List where Keystone inspectors recommended that no repairs are needed or minimal repair is needed. We do not "over sell" or "Over kill" problems. Rather we provide quality solutions that last. That is who we are and that is who we will ALWAYS be.

We moved into our house in August and knew from the start that the basement had waterproofing problems; there were several horizontal cracks in our wall, and every time it rained we would have seepage and puddles. We went for the $49 waterproofing inspection coupon because we wanted a thorough consultation. Jim came out for the inspection. He did a fantastic job---went over his recommendations in detail, told us what we could fix ourselves, explained what the problem was so we would understand what needed done. Everything he said was accurate and we were not pressured to use Keystone at all. We were very impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. After reading all the positive reviews from Angie's list and meeting with Jim we felt that Keystone would be the best company for the job. Jim recommended a french drain and sump pump installation and explained in detail how the process would go. We hired them for the job. The foreman for the job was Tony. He and his men Robbie and Mikey came out a few weeks later on the weekend, which was extremely convenient for us. All three were excellent workers; they explained what they'd be doing, answered our questions, then worked all morning into the late afternoon/evening to complete the job in one day. They were fantastic and our basement didn't even have any dust when they were finished. They showed us the completed job and made sure we were satisfied before leaving. They did a beautiful job; everything was clean and they even sealed up everything so that we would not have issues with our radon levels. I wanted to wait a few weeks to write this review because we wanted to see how well the french drain worked (though they assured us that they would promptly fix any issues we had if there was still water seepage.) I'm very pleased to report that after several weeks and several severe rainstorms we have not had a single drop of water in our basement. It's been bone-dry since the drain was installed. We could not be happier with the service we received. We are definitely going to recommend Keystone to our friends and family and we'll be sure to use them in the future with any foundation issues we might have.

They came out right away although I did postpone once with more than 24 hr notice because I was afraid that snow on the ground would prevent them from seeing draining problems that I thought contributed to the water in my basement. The advertised value of the service was 350.00 but I don't see how that visit added up to $350.00; I probably got what I paid for. The estimator came out with a crew foreman and they walked around, taking some measurements and were come and gone in an hour or so, including a sit-down to sell me a package. The estimator used a plumb line and advised me that I had a bowed basement wall. True, it is not straight and there is a crack but I have lived in that house for over fifty years and have not seen any discernible change in the wall in that time. I was not worried about it. There aren't that many straight lines or right angles in this house. There was some pressure involved in the sales pitch and I told them I didn't want to commit at that time. They offered to come down on the price because it was a slow time of year for them. I rejected that because I wanted to think about it and I probably wash't going to do the work for some time. I would probably hire them although I would look at other businesses as well and check updated reviews but I did not need the high pressure sales pitch, or at least that's the way it came across.

I did not use the services of this contractor because I decided not to go this route to correct my basement water problem.
Description of Work: I requested a bid for inside basement drains and sump pump instillation. Mike Nicholas was very helpful and curtious.
