We were pleased with Keystone. We called before the 4th of July holiday and were pleased that the salesman was willing to make a sales call on a holiday weekend (July 5th). We dealt with Clarence, who was great: very straightforward, no hard sell, seemed very trustworthy and reliable. He went over my options, but really there was only realistic one: internal French drains and "vapor barriers." Clarance even gave me his personal cell phone number and responded to every call or text. It took me 3 weeks to clear my basement for them (it's a crowded basement). This is a big house and a big job, so your price will not (hopefully) be as much... The lead installer called me the night before the scheduled job just to go over details. While I was not home for the job, my wife was, and she reported that they were clean (very clean, wrapping up the contents of my basement in a giant plastic wrap) and professional. It is a heavy, messy job but they got it done in 3 days. This includes digging a trench, putting in a pipe and a sump pump, back filling with pebbles, then concreting over. We are talking thousands of pounds of materials going in and out of my home. My basement is DRY now. Dry as a bone, even in horrific downpours. Very pleased. The white vapor barrier looks clean, even though it's just a very thick plastic, reinforced sheeting. Only one tiny complaint: they left one back of trash and the cardboard box for the sump pump behind, which I had to put out with the trash/recycling. Nothing heavy, just a minor annoyance.
Description of Work: installed internal French drains

They were outrageously expensive and the first visit, I had one of the workers came out and he said that I can't use the quote because he gave me the lowest price. I got really mad and so I called them and said that I don't like the particular man because it's kind of rude. They sent out another person and the bid sticks basically. They tried to make it right by sending somebody else and they handled the situation. They're very apologetic and sympathetic and they handled it perfectly perfect. We had 2 people that are completely professional and one person that's not professional.

Member, As you know from talking to us we never meant to upset you. In the end, multiple people came out to your house in [member information removed] and verified that you unfortunately have a lot of damage. That is the reason for the quote, as verified by another team member and myself before writing this response. In the end, we have no control over what type of damage or how extensive it is before you call us. All we can do is properly access it and fix it.

I saw these guys in a booth at an event. I needed some foundation repair work done. I explained what the problem was, and the guy at the table scheduled an appointment to come and give me an estimate. Josh called later to confirm the appointment and stated that both my wife and I would have to be there, or they would not give me an estimate. This was not mentioned at the booth. I was interested in an estimate on a specific problem. I will be the one making the decision. I did not understand why my wife had to be there, nor was any explanation ever given. Josh also said it would take at least an hour and that a table around which we could discuss the work would be useful. I have no idea why it would take so long to produce an estimate nor why a table was necessary. It seems to me that if detail, complicated explanations were necessary that on site would be a better place to explain things. When I said my wife was not available or needed Josh declined to give me an estimate.

Member, Let me address both aspects of your complaint: 1. Confirmation of the appointment - You mentioned that you met our event coordinator at a show. I certainly agree that our rep should have informed you of what Keystone requires to send our our engineer to inspect foundation issues. I apologize if he did not. 2. Requirements of the engineer inspection - The service you requested was for our structural engineer to come our and perform a 68 Point diagnostic. This is normally not a free inspection unless you meet us at an event or trade show. Normally this is a $350 charge plus drive time due to the advanced knowledge and skill of the engineer. That said, even though the appointment is free for those at events, there are requirements to the inspection. They are very simple and are as follows: 1. You must own the property in question 2. You must have an issue that our company fixes 3. All interested parties must attend the inspection Let me explain #3 so that the reader understands the requirement. Because we are not charging to send out a highly trained engineer to your home, we must address and answer all questions and concerns in 1 visit. We certainly cannot send someone out 6 times to answer questions that could have easily been asked on the first visit. The only alternative is to charge for every visit. We love that we are able to find a middle ground with most people and send out a trained engineer for free. All we ask is the interested parties be present. That's all.

He was prompt in arrival, very courteous, and very honest about what could/could not be done with my basement water/dampness problem. It turned out the company wasn't able to help with my particular problem, and offered a full refund. It was very nice to find a company that wouldn't try to push services that weren't needed! I would use them if I ever do need their services in the future.

He came and basically told us that we did not need the water proofing. He did suggest another solution to the issues that we were having, his company did not offer this type of service. We ended up taking his advice and adding a drainage pit in the back and it’s working well so far! We have so far not needed to spend thousands of dollars thanks to his advice.

The work two years ago and now was done in a very professional manner. They are prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, polite, and competent. This year when we had them install the outside membrane, the regional representative for the membrane manufacturer gave them the wrong directions for installing it, i.e. to install it above and below ground. When we and they discovered this error, that it should only go underground, Keystone was very responsive and took responsibility for the error. They corrected it to more than our satisfaction. Great companies stand out in how they respond when something goes wrong---and this one was top notch. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them to you. Andrea C., Fox Chapel, PA
Description of Work: Two years ago they gave us a complete basement waterproofing system: internal French drain, 2 sump pumps, wall treatment etc. Our house was constructed in a strange way, however, so moisture came in over the top of the foundation. They returned and put a waterproof membrane on the outside perimeter of our house, digging down 18 inches.

Member, I have to say, out of all of the reviews we have on Angie's List, this is one of the top 3 I am most proud of. I am most proud of it because this was a project were we messed something up. I will admit it. Even though the regional product rep gave us the incorrect maximum height, this was still our project. I am a firm believer in admitting when I - or my company - is wrong. Additionally, the bad information we received from the regional rep is not your fault...nor should it have impacted how quickly we fixed the issue at your home. The bad information is a separate issue that I will deal with now that this problem has been addressed and your situation satisfied. In closing, I want to thank you for your review. I have said countless times on this forum that what separates good from bad companies is not if they have an occasional problem. It is how they respond to that problem that makes them good or bad. Thank you for having the patience to write the review afterwards.

We were very unhappy about how the estimating process went. They came and put on a hard sale, acting like the foundation was going to cave in if we didnt put the drain in soon. They said their schedule was really full and we should sign up for the service now to at least get on the schedule, and they we could cancel if we changed our mind. Well, they failed to state that we only had three days to cancel otherwise we would be locked in to the contract. The only way out after three days was to pay 20% of the estimate. Not knowing this we continued to shop around and got a lower quote from another basement company, but then we found out that we were locked in to Keystone. We feel that we were taken advantage of and had to pay more that we really needed to. Lesson learned, read all the fine print. The only up side was the installers were very professional and did a teriffic job installing the drain and pump. They kept the disturbance to a minimum and cleaned up nicely afterward. They also did a real nice job finishing the concrete over the drain. If the estimators were only as good as the installers it would have been a better experience.

ANGIE'S LIST REALLY NEEDS TO LET US POST SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS! With that said, this review takes the cake. We initially met you on 3/27/13 and provided you with a proposal. You signed and agreed to a scope of work. We then came back out on 1/4/14 and revised the paperwork. We then came out on 1/25/14 to install the work. That is almost 11 months of time from when you met us until we put the work in the ground. This was probably the greatest amount of time in our company history from meeting a client, signing up with a client and then installing the work! Yet, we have a review that we pressured and forced you to move too quickly!!!

At first, we were a bit skeptical when deciding to go with Keystone as our basement waterproofer. Their initial quote was much higher than any of the other providers we contacted. Also, they seemed a bit pushy on the sales side of things. We initially declined a commitment after the first guy showed up to give us an estimate. A few months after, they came back with a reduced quote. After giving a bit more of a discount, we took the bait. The final price was 30% less than they originally quoted. It still seems a bit high, but that might just be my buyers remorse nagging me. The workers arrived promptly and were very professional and courteous. The work was completed on-time and it didn't seem like the noise or dirt was too bad. I'm no expert, but the quality of work seems good. It has been about 6 months since the work, and the french drain seems to do its job. We have not had any leaks yet, and have much enjoyed the increased usable floor space in our basement. We did have an incidental problem with the job. We have a chest freezer in the basement that was originally plugged into an always-on outlet. However, one of the workers moved the plug to a switch-controlled outlet (used for basement lighting). We did not realize this until about 3 weeks after the job, so all of our food in the freezer spoiled. We reported this to Keystone, and they promptly apologized and sent us a check for $200 to replace the lost food. Their customer support is really on the ball. The only other item I would bring up is that in the original quote/estimate, they proposed installing two cleanouts, one at each end of the french drain (since the sump pump is in the middle). The contract we signed only had one cleanout listed, and I didn't notice this until after the work was done. I don't know how we/they will be able to maintain the end without a cleanout, especially if it gets clogged at some point. I asked Keystone about it, and they stood by the signed contract, understandably. Some future work may be required, but we'll keep our fingers crossed and enjoy our new basement. Thanks, Keystone!
Description of Work: Keystone Basement Systems installed an indoor french drain around 2/3 of the perimeter of my basement. They installed a dual sump pump system in the middle of the french drain (one line-powered sump, one battery-backed DC pump). There was one cleanout installed on one of the french drain ends.

EXCELLENT! They started on a Thursday morning, job was complete with everything cleaned up by Friday afternoon. We had no dust or debris upstairs from the work, because they use dust covers on the equipment that jack hammered the floor. Carried the debris to the truck by hand with buckets. They explained everything, there was always a project manager on site to handle any questions, issues or concerns- but we had none! They re poured concrete to cover the drains, and put everything back as we had left it. We cannot say enough good things about them. Promptness, communication- quality of workmanship, everything was fantastic. It may seem like a lot of money - but we have never regret the investment, if you are thinking of any basement work, these are absolutely the people to go to!
Description of Work: We had inside French drains and moisture paper placed on the walls, and a sump pump. It was a lot of work - not to mentioning that they had to remove about 2 feet of concrete floor away from the walls.

I used this company in October 2012 and then again in July 2013. I did not want to write an immediate review as a home improvement like this isn't something that can be judged quickly in my opinion. First off the company is professional in everything they do from start to finish. My water problem was fairly serious and the Giulio expressed surprise the walls weren't buckling due to the pressure exerted by all of the water. I explained what I was looking for and Giulio did not pressure me to have the system installed all the way around the house (had I known I would have had future problems I would have done that though). The appointment for installation was set a few weeks out; the day arrived and the crew was professional in all aspects even moving items in the garage I did not have time to rearrange. They were done in the 2 days they scheduled and took great car to make sure dust and debris were contained. Everything was fine until the water found another path into the basement along 2 walls that were not part of the original work. My first call was again to Keystone Basement and Giulio again came out and provided a writeup. This was also scheduled a few weeks out. The crew that was handling the install had this section wrapped up in a day and left me with a basement that now had an interior drain system that went along every part of the basement that was below grade. My only minor complaint is that I am disappointed in the price for the second installment; it was more than half the cost of the first installation which included the sump pump, it's backup, and more linear feet of drainage to install. I was expecting a price $500-$1,000 less than what I paid given that no pump installation was needed and 15 less feet of drain was required. My biggest regret is not voicing this concern outside of immediate family and friends. However I wouldn't let that deter me from using this company again if needed; I have had zero water problems since they completed the second installation and there have been some heavy rains/melting snow that tested this system. I can confidently say to any future buyer there are no water problems in the basement or garage. I am very pleased with Keystone Basement and I would recommend them to anyone who needed services they offer.
Description of Work: Installed 85 feet of interior sump pump drain system with 1 sump pump, external drain, & back-up pump. This was broken into 2 separate projects where 50 feet and the pump were installed and then another 35 feet were added~9 months later after the water problem cropped up in a different area of the basement. The price listed is for the entire project.

I had a doorway with stairs and roof put in my basement 10 years ago and the contractor did not add a drain. It appeared there was a drain but I guess sticking a screw driver in a hole and adding a drain cap was good enough for him. The last couple of years our basement leaked more and more. With a flash flood, we had a river in our basement this passed spring. I hired Keystone to fix the problem and I couldn't have hired a better crew. It was completed in 1 day! They added an exterior drain and an internal pump and solved the problem. This company was a life saver. I will use them if I ever have another issue with water.

Tony who works for Keystone Basement Solutions did an outstanding job. My husband and I used this contractor back in 2006 to fix a serious water leak in our home and we were very pleased with the results. When I discovered that water was coming in the basement at my mother's home, I called this company again. My husband and I met with Aaron Stull who is a Certified Structural Repair and Waterproofing Specialist, and he presented a solution in a very professional manner. He recommended a sump pump under the front porch where the water was coming in and also explained that his crew would point and seal the mortar joints in the basement both outside and inside so that there would be no further problems. In addition to this, Marcia Heatherington, who handles the administrative tasks in the office, was very responsive to my calls and did an excellent job of keeping me informed of when the job was to begin, how long it would take, and was just a pleasure to do business with. I would highly recommend this firm for anyone who is experiencing water problems in their home and want to get it fixed.

Before and after the company started and finished the job I was told and guarantee by the salesman and foremen that I would not have any more leaks in my basement. Well about two weeks later whenit rained I had a leak in my basement that was not there before they started. So when the cmpany was told this I was asked to send pictures of my leak and was quoted a price to have them come and do the work, but I told them that this was there responsibility not mine so someone from the company came out to repair the problem but when it rained again my basement is STILL has an leak where the company started the work or where the pipes start at. This is the second time this has happened. I was told my the company if this happens again that it would then be my finicail problem to get it fix. I would not ever use them again and I would not refer them to anyone else. I went with them because of the rating on Angie's List. I think I should be reibursed some of my money to get the work that I need completed compelet. IAM NOT STIFIED AT ALL WITH THIS COMPAY. I have more problems now they before.

We were having one wall that was leaking with some water in the basement. When we had the inspector come out (Jim Krall), he was very honest and gave us advice as to what he would do if it were his house. The issue wasn't with our foundation, but the water flow from the downspouts into the cistern that was facing the wall that was having the leaks. He came up with a few solutions and gave a reasonable estimate based on what needed to be done to correct the problem. The team came out and did all of the work in one day. They were very polite and friendly. It's been a few weeks and no noticeable water in the basement where there was a dampness before. I would use them again in the future for any basement issues. I appreciated their honest and non sales approach to doing business. They could have tried to sell me something that wasn't really needed, but instead offered the best solution that was possibly less profit for them and best for my situation. Jeff Krall was a great field inspector and I would highly recommend him to come and look at what you are having an issue with if you can request him to see your property.
Description of Work: Retrenched the downspout lines on the north and south sides of the house. Drained the 1,000 gallon cistern, and back-filled the cistern with gravel.

It sucked in my opinion. I was there when they were doing the job and they didn't have the proper equipment to lift the building. They had these devises but not the complete set. They were supposed to have an engineer there to come with the finish but he never came. I was just very unhappy with their professionalism and I thought they charged a little bit too much. My impression of them was that they just wanted to sign up for money and get some contractor to do the job and basically get off.

Not only am I the owner of the company but I am a Certified Structural Repair Specialist (BHA #149-CSRS). When we met you asked if we could lift the floors of the house to level them. My answer, as well as the standard contract language on all of our paperwork is the same..."We will lift until a point where we have reached a reasonable level floor or until the structure will not allow additional lifting without causing harm elsewhere." This standard answer is not only reasonable, it is professional. We cannot knowingly satisfy a customers request to lift a home if we are going to damage or destroy other areas. Not only did I explain this to you before you signed up with us but it was explained during and after the project as well. I understand your disappointment that the floors only lifted 75%. I wish the house was strong enough to endure additional lifting...but it was not. Not because Keystone or anyone else did anything wrong, but because it was 120 years old and was neglected for a very long time. In closing, I wish to express my interest to Angie's List to allow vendors to attach evidence such as pictures or contracts. I have the exact clause stated above written on the contract with the customers signature 2" below. I spend a lot of time responding to every review but I think people want to see the proof. Anyway, members should ask for this as I think it would be beneficial.

That turned out fine. The company came out and did an assessment for us which was stated in the Big Deal . They put together a proposal and the communication with this company was good.

The basement is still leaking. We provided the feedback that it was still leaking and the french drain did not help our issue, no one contacted us about the issues we are still having. Basically the installment of the french drains, upon recommendation from our consultant, were worthless and we will have to contact another company to do the work again this summer. After seeing this review on Angie's List Keystone Basements came back out and looked at the work done last summer. They advised us that the contracting company they hired to do the original work did not do a good job and sent someone else out to pour concrete around the drains. Unfortunately they also advised us that the drains we installed were not the correct fix to the problem so we are still getting water in our basement. At this consultation we were advised that we would actually need to hire someone to come out and reangle our back patio so that water flows around our house which should have been the original fix. We now have properly installed ground water drains which is nice however they were an unnecessary expense which we would not have incurred had Keystone Basements not advised us to add them. (The original consultant told us that these "ground drains" or "French drains" should fix the issue of water getting into our basement and if we wanted to we could add sump pumps to get rid of water that may make its way in. (We decided not to go with the sump pump because our concern was the water damaging the foundation by getting in.)

I AM SO PLEASED THAT THE MEMBER ATTACHED A PICTURE. FOR THOSE REVIEWING THIS REVIEW IT WILL BE VERY BENEFICIAL...LET ME EXPLAIN. As a basement waterproofing company we see a lot of homes. Some are in great shape, others are not. From time to time we encounter a floor that has so many holes and cracks in it that we must recommend a new floor in addition to waterproofing. Now, new basement floors are very expensive. A lot of customers say that they do not want a new floor...which is perfectly reasonable and fine. That said, if you have a massive hole in the floor and you don't get it fixed you very well CANT BLAME THE CONTRACTOR!!! If you take a look at the wonderfully attached picture you will see the floor has many holes and is less than an inch thick...even though code is to have a 4" thick floor. Additionally, if you look even closer you can see that the wall that is leaking is not even a wall we treated. The basement is unfinished so you can see plain as day that we did nothing to it!!!! In closing, after looking at the notes I see that a new floor was proposed - and refused - by the property owner. The cost was $13,000 so I get it. That said, you cant say you don't want the floor and then complain when a hole in the floor leaks! Naturally I will have Angie's List remove this bogus review...but I wanted to put this response up so that during the investigation time if someone reads it they know what they are looking at.

Tony's crew was great. They cleaned up and the work was done in a timely manner. Tony answered all of our questions. I even called him after because I had one more question. Highly recommended. The person who came out to give the estimate was great too. He came back to our house after he had been gone about 10 minutes. We decided to use keystone and let him know so he turned around and got the paperwork started. He saved us a few bucks by doing it that night. Thank you!!'

BGREAT service. I called to schedule a free estimate for potential repairs of the foundation/basement of a house we are considering purchasing. Of course, I was imagining that there would be a very hefty price tag for this "free" estimate, but how wrong I was. Jim Kraal met me right on time and proceeded to spend the next 45 minutes inspecting every inch of the basement. The biggest surprise was the he did NOT recommend and further work at this time. Jim and Keystone Basement proved to me that they are professional, punctual, thorough, and perhaps most importantly, aside from the fact that they are experts, they are also honest. I'm pleased to say that I HIGHLY recommend Keystone Basement Services and particularly Jim Kraal! You can be sure that If i ever have a problem in the basement, they will be my first and only call!
