Member, I love when we get reviews such as this one. The public has a mild distrust of contractors...with good reason. Far to many companies "find problems" with home even when there are none. We do not do that. We give an honest assessment of the conditions of the foundation and I am pleased that we satisfied you. One side note, and you or whoever is reading this may find it funny, we actually have received bad reviews on Angie's List for finding NOTHING WRONG...haha. Strangely, when you find nothing wrong, some people think your inspection was not thorough and get upset. Oh well...you can't please everybody. In closing, I am glad we satisfied you. Aaron Stull President
Prompt, polite, and professional, even went out and bought more than enough gravel to cover the digging done through our gravel driveway and have enough left over to level off a dip by the steps to our porch (which was not their doing). I must clarify the zero cost. This was work done to fix the poor installation done by another crew from this same company about seven years ago. So, we were upset with the company after the original work was done, as we told them the outflow pipe wasn't deep enough, but they disagreed and didn't do anything about it back then. The company did not hesitate one second to make right on those earlier mistakes when we called this year, and the new crew was excellent.
Description of Work: Replaced sump pump in basement that broke down when water froze in outflow line during last freeze of winter 2014-2015, and replaced the outflow line too, using a wider pipe and burying it deeper than was originally done.

Member, Thank you for your review. Believe it or not I find this kind of review wins us more business that any other. No person or company is perfect. We certainly make a mistake from time to time. That said, how a person or company handles mistakes is what defines then as a "good" or "bad" company. When we make a mistake we fix it. That is in the DNA of Keystone. People like that. It's easy to be a good company when everything goes right...but what if there is an issue? Will the company be back to help? I am proud to say that we do! Thank you for the review. The crew was thoroughly responsible and knowledgeable and they left my basement cleaner than it was when they came. They were very reassuring and professional. I was in a sort of panic mode and wondered if the work would be top quality and it was in every way. I received a guarantee on the work and the pump and I could not have been more pleased. I've always believed you get what you pay for and even though this bid was a bit higher than another I felt confident with this company and was not disappointed. I would use Keystone Basement systems again and would recommend the company to anyone.
Description of Work: Installed a French drain inside of the 3 outward facing walls of my storage room under my front porch. Included support straps for the walls and sump pump with extra life battery.

Member, Thank you so much for the kind review. You said it perfectly..."you get what you pay for." That is so true. As a business owner you constantly have to make decisions that impact the price you offer to the consumer. Do you offer quality equipment, or do you buy cheap parts to save a buck. Do you offer good healthcare to keep good people, or do you rotate part-time workers to avoid health care responsibility. Do you pay a livable wage, or do you offer the lowest dollar and hour and have heavy turnover. Keystone offers a high quality system which is installed by high quality workers. We pay a livable wage and offer healthcare for the employees and families of our team. Our workers are happy and they tend to stay with us for a long time. This is our secret to success...happy workers and quality equipment and material. That said, does this impact the offering price to the public? Obviously yes. To offer the public the lowest price the company must have the lowest overhead. They must pay the least amount possible to their labor force and use the cheapest material. Since the wage is not sustainable to the worker, the company has high turnover. High turnover means that most of the workers are "learning on the job." Quality suffers and morale is low. When morale is low quality is not main the concern of the worker. In the end, the customer gets a poor job. In the end, you get what you pay for. We do not claim to be the lowest price...we claim to be the best value. For your money you get excellent work, great material and equipment, an excellent warranty and a company that will be around down the road to help you should you need it. Thank you for your business and kind review. Aaron Stull President

Tony' and his crew was on time, polite and professional. The company estimated that the job would take 3-4 days and it took that long. Because my kitchen was sagging and some of the walls were cracked, they told me that they could not guarantee that they could lift the floor all the way to where it was. I was pleasantly surprised when many of the cracks were minimized and my kitchen floor was almost flush to the wall again. Everyone that I dealt with from Keystone was very polite, professional and skilled in basement repair. I checked out the finished work and it looks great down there! Would I use them agan? Absolutely. ( but I am hoping I won't have to). I have already recommended Keystone to one of my neighbors, who has similar basement problems,
Description of Work: Replaced the main beam in my crawl space (was rotted) with a new one and to control the moisture in the crawl space they, added a new sump pump, dehumidifier and vapor barrier. They also discovered poor framing in the crawl space that was creating a sag below the powder room. They installed 2 posts and an I beam.

First let me begin by saying this company is great when it comes to communication. One of the office staff, Charonda, did an excellent job of setting up an appointment so that the service technician would come out to assess the problem. She was very good at calling me back and made sure after that everything went well after the appointment. When the Head Service Technician, Ron Gongaware and his assistant Ed arrived at our house, my husband explained that the water was not draining and the sump pump was not working properly. The pump was filling up very high and was not removing the water. Ron and Ed were very professional and it was obvious they knew how to fix the problem. Ron explained to me that they installed a Blue Angle pump which will drain the water faster. Apparently, this pump was not available nine years ago. My husband and I were very impressed that we got a better pump and very pleased they were so fast and responsive. Although we had a warranty on the original sump pump, we were not expecting a better pump and they did not charge us for the trip. Ron and Ed did an outstanding job installing the pump and Charonda was great in the office! I can tell you that I used them over my mother's house several years ago and they did an excellent job at her house too. By the way, this is the second time that I have submitted an excellent review. I would highly recommend this company to everyone.

Sales representive was straight forward and did not play any sneaking games like another company's salesMEN did. His approach was more on the engineering and did not try to scare or rush us into a decision. He even used architect scale and protractor to draw a cross section drawing of how water can get into the basement. He made sure to design a solution that fit our specific issue. He did not try to sell a "standard" package that would have been total overkill for our problem. Installers were professional and courteous. Finished the job in 2 days which was awesome.

Giulio came twice to examine our basement and foundation problem. The house is approximately 110 years old and has a stone foundation. He was very helpful, clear and answered many questions, provided references which we requested. Tony and crew were the ones that did the actual work, which, for the underpins involved digging 3 holes through the basement floor, going under the stone and placing about a 3 foot section of concrete with rebar there. The idea is that these concrete pads act as a foundation under the house to prevent further sinking. The post replacement involved shoring up the post first, then removing it and digging a 4th hole, pouring a concrete foundation and then replacing the post with a "C" tube on top to cradle the beam. Tony and crew were on time, very neat and clean, worked quickly and as far as I can see, did an excellent job. The final evaluation will be over time to see if there is any further shifting in the foundation. Tony told me he has never had a call back from failure of this repair and I hope that this will be the case for us as well. I would certainly hire Keystone in the future (although I hope I don't have to - nothing personal!!) Update November 2015: Had a major crack occur in the corner where this work was done. I requested that Giulio come to see and advise, however, they told me he was unavailable and only sent out a repairman, who basically said nothing further could be done. His only work was to patch the crack and apply a crack monitor, which moved the next day! I called back, sent photos of the crack monitor and asked for advise. No one ever called back nor did they send anyone out. Seems like I wasted my money with putting in the concrete pads and I'm disappointed in their lack of response after this failed!
Description of Work: Had a problem with foundation sinking. Neighbors on both sides have had the same. Called 3 contractors for advice and proposals. Keystone advised placing footer underpins rather than piers, which were proposed by the others. Neighbors have had piers placed, which are much more expensive and at least one has already failed. While here, we also found one of our post supporting the main beam of our house was warping on the top. This post was replaced.

From beginning to end my experience with Keystone Basement Systems was a pleasant and painless experience. My initial call for an inspection of my leaking basement was prompty answered by Giulio and he was onsite the next day to inspect. Giulio listened to my description of the problem and after a careful and thorough inspection presented me with options. I greatly appreciated that Giulio's approach was low key and that he also pointed out a termite problem that I later fixed. Aaron, the president of Keystone followed up with a phone call and offered me a discount to the price Giulio offered. I had three other estimates and Keystone was the most expensive but my research kept leading me back to Keystone and I had the install done before Thanksgiving. On the day of my install the three man team of Tony, Wesley and Charles arrived promptly at 0900 with the team lead, Tony, explaining exactly what they were going to do. Tony's professionalism and obvious knowledge of the process just confirmed that I had made the right decision. I noted to Tony that I had to have the drain installed and complete by COB the next day IOT begin planned Thanksgiving Holiday travel. I was very impressed by the expertise and professionalism of Tony and his team and that they completed the work by the end of the first day. A key indicator of an outstanding company is the follow-up after the job is done and Marsha called to ensure that my basement stayed dry and that I was satisfied with Keystone's work...I was and am. This was a major fix to ensure the maintenance of the structural integrity of the house and am glad to have chosen Keystone Basement Systems. In additon their lifetime warranty is not only indicative of the superb quality of their work but also they will stand by their promise of a dry basement even if I sell the house with their transferrable warranty. I am very satisfied with my choice.

Member, I never get tired of reading reviews like this. Nothing tells other people what kind of company we are like a well written customer review. Thank you for spending the time to share your experience. I also thank you for your business. Sincerely, Aaron Stull, President
Julio conducted the home inspection and confirmed what I had suspected and what other providers had assessed. I was very concerned because of the extensive nature of this process and the significant cost. The reduction for being an Angie's list member was very helpful. I had what was to me significant water coming in and they were able to do the repair very promptly. He told me his crew would move the items in the areas being done, which was a great relief to me. It turned out they had a cancellation and were able to do the work less than a week after the insepction. The day before the work began I got a call from the job foreman, Tony. What excellent customer service! Tony told me he had gone over the job with Julio but had a couple things he wanted to review and did I have any questions. He again explained the process, assured me he was very neat and would not leave any mess, and that he would treat my house like his own. We discussed my special concerns (my pets who I needed to relocate away from the area.) I also explained to him that I was anxious because of the extent of the work and the cost, and he was very understanding. He told me if I liked he would send my pictures via text messaging of the work as it progressed and invited my father to come down to observe the process if he wished. He told the truth. He did treat the house as if it were his own.The crew moved the heavy items out of the way, taking care of them. A plastic barrier separated the work area from the finished game room. A cloth pathway was put down from the entry through to the work area. There was absolutely no dust. For a job that had the potential to be very messy at least from my perspective it was not. Again any questions I had were answered, any concerns addressed (Like are you sure my downspouts/outlets are good? Yes, we tested them with the equivalent of a hurricane) I was amazed they were done in two days. I knew what to expect in terms of the time it would take for the concrete to dry He explained the back up batteries on the pumps..I even texted Tony with a question a few days later and he answered me. (It was taking longer for the concrete in the garage to dry, not unusual as I now know) Now, for the important part. I have waited to write this reviewto be sure the process really worked. Despite all of the before and after pictures I've seen, I couldn't believe that drains in the floor would reduce the dampness in the walls. And, since I still have never "heard" the pumps kick it, I wanted to be sure they really worked. Well, it has now rained for two straight days. There is absolutely no water or dampness in the house basement and the garage is drier that it has been for a very long time. So, though I do not hear the pumps working, they obviously are. The quietness was a pleasant surprise. Tony is not only an absolute professional at what he does, he has excellent customer service skills. A wonderful combination!

This was a very thorough walk through of the way my house was built, and addressed several drainage opportunities I could take advantage of with minimal work around the foundation. The Keystone Team was exceptionally knowledgeable about the issue I was dealing with, and how I did not have to worry, given the way the house was constructed. They could have easily made a lot of money off me given my concerns.

ANGIES LIST NEEDS TO ALLOW ATTACHMENTS!! With that said, my response is very simple. This customer is less than truthful in his review. Additionally, I went to court with this customer and won. (I wish I could attach supporting documents). This claim is baseless.
I had a French drain and sump pump installed by Keystone in June of 2013. I called today to clarify a question I had about the service ports. I spoke with Marcia who was able to answer my question quickly and professionally. When the inspector arrived, he immediately wanted to inspect the basement. He told us the "walls were full of water" (we later had someone else out who measured and told us that the moisture in the block was fine) and tried to sell us on a french drain system with a fancy sump pump (cost almost $10,000). When I asked about where the water would drain, he said into your exterior drain pipe. That's what I originally wanted them to quote me on (as ours was clogged), so he went outside and called his engineer who quoted us over $2500 (it might have been more, I'm not sure of the exact amount since it was never written) to replace our drain pipe. I told him we didn't want a french drain (and that wasn't what we called them for, we called for the drain pipe). He gave us the hard sell, and proceeded to tell us that the discounts he quoted us (Angie's List, and some other discount) were only good if we signed a contract that day for ALL the work. I later got a call back asking why we didn't sign and again tried to get us to hire them to come out that same week. They offered to send out their lead engineer to see if they could do the work for less, but I declined as I did not like their pressure sales tactics.
Description of Work: We called Keystone Basement Systems and asked if they would replace our outdoor downspout drains. They said they would so we scheduled an estimate. To make a long story short, the inspector ignored the original request and proceeded to give us the hard sell on a french drain.

Member, I spoke to your inspector about your issue. He contended that he believes you do in fact have water in your walls. He also showed me the pictures he took while at your location. I certainly cannot make any definitive statements based off of pictures, but something is going on...or why would you have called us. In regard to feeling pressure, I never want that to happen. Obviously we let you down on that front and I have spoken with your inspector about this. We pride ourselves on providing sound and accurate information. Additionally, our company policy is - and always will be - that our price quotes are good for 30 days. This gives you the time to plan and budget and feel comfortable with your decision. I have reinforced this with your inspector and offer my apology if you felt he conducted himself otherwise.

In our laundry room the contractor was informed by us that the Prego flooring was floating and not glued down. Unfortunately he did not take our information and used a saw to cut the floor where he needed access, his claim was the floor was glued down. When we contacted a handy man to help us put our laundry room back as it originally looked he showed us how easy the floor came up and was not glued down. This of course caused some additional problems besides expense, the prego floor style we used was no longer available and we spent considerable time finding a close match, of course we had to order boxes which caused additional delay. As it was not a exact match and was a smaller size it led to a lot of cutting and fitting by our contractor. As of this date(9/03/14) our room is finally done. There where a few other minor problems but they were not problematic. Had the floor been lifted up as it should of been we would of saved additional money and been completed much earlier. As we spent what I felt was top dollar with this contractor I felt we should had a better result in our laundry room.

Patrick came on site in the evening to assess and discuss solutions. After taking a through tour of our basement and outside perimeter of our house, Patrick gave a very through and detailed description of our possible problems. It was determined that the exterior of the foundations protective exterior coating is no longer 'working' and cement blocks are porous - allowing water in our basement. His suggestion was to install internal french drains inside our house (28'x39' or 134 linear feet) and two sub pumps. He estimated one week to complete the job. He described their piping method, re-creating the basement floor and clean up. Very knowledgeable. I liked that Patrick addressed both myself and my husband equally.

I hired this company through Angie's List, but my father found another company and I hired them. I called keystone and explained the situation and they were very understanding and asked for me to keep them in mind in the future. You have great personable helpful people answering the phone.

Keystone Basement Systems is a very high quality, professional business. They did a very good, very neat job and were courteous and professional. All work was completed in two full days. Getting this type of work done is a big expense and a very serious step in insuring the safety of the foundation of your home. I feel confident in the work that was done and would recommend them to anyone who has serious water problems in their basement/garage area.
Description of Work: Thoroughly inspected the basement and garage. Explained the drain / sump pump system in detail. Explained payment options. Installed drain system along the walls of the basement and put in a pump in one corner of the basement. Installed a pump in the garage and a drain along the exterior of the garage opening (driveway area).

Member, Thank you for the review of your work. You hit the nail on the head when you said this is a "serious step" in protecting your home. We feel the same way and that is why we only use quality solutions and avoid short cuts.
The first crew came and installed indoor french drains, and a new sump pump in my storage room. On the outside they installed a floor drain in an area in the back of my house where water pools. That drain was tied into the sump pump. They also tied my downspouts and my sump pump into the ground out to the road. They worked very hard! They were here for about 10 hours working on all that stuff. They were on time, courteous, answered all my questions, and kept me informed on what was going on. The second crew came out another day to paint the room where the sump pump is. It looks so much better now. They also removed the window that was there and replaced it with a nice looking block window. The one that was there was like a dryer vent window, very ugly and pointless. They also cemented an old drain closed for me that was causing issues. That crew also filled in the holes along the ceiling that were creating a draft. Since both crews came out to my house to make repairs I have not had any water issues at my home, which is such a relief. The reason I had them come out was because my basement was under ankle deep water. I'm thankful for their hard work.
Description of Work: Installed new sump pump, indoor french drains, floor drain, block glass window, paint room.

I've waited over a year to write this review, but feel that I should share with the Angie's List community. Our overall with KBS was "okay". Here's my reasoning for that raiting. 1. Pushy sales process that resulted in rushing the install. 2. While third party teams weren't to be used, the team that showed up to do the install was indeed not KBS employees. 3. We had numerous leaks soon after the install that resulted in having a very professional "fix it" gentlemen come out to our home three times. 4. Communication was poor at best. The documentation shared from client to sales person to installers was "poor". An example is that the installers had a single sheet of paper when they arrived with none of the fine details that we had purchased. 5. Lake of customer respect. I attempted to give valued respectful feedback to the sales and customer service team. That was responded with defensive comments and a sense of we're right and you're wrong. Home owners please be cautious.
Description of Work: Rushed install with a 3rd party team that resulted in having them come back three times to repair.

Member, I am sorry that you feel this way. I freely admit that we had to do more work than anticipated at your home. This sometimes happens as we cannot see all of the damage under ones concrete floor. Some damage (like that of the right hand wall) cannot be seen as it is underground. I (Aaron Stull) even came out personally to meet you and review your issue. Once we discovered the additional damage we fixed it...at no cost. In closing I just want to explain that we fix unseen damage that is under ground. We evaluate and look at evidence and suggest a repair. Sometimes we need to add more repair work based on new information. This is what we did in this case.
