Description of Work: First, I intend to review the results of Keystone's work after 30-60 days to insure the designed sump pump system works effectively without problems. | |I will give immediate feedback on the result of the three day job they completed. Keystone was contracted to install a sump pump system with battery back-up on two walls in our basement , a total of 63', and install a driveway EZ drain system of approximately 17'. Marcy of Keystone provided information two days ahead of scheduled work starting on May 21,2014. She indicated "Tony's" crew would be assigned to our project. | |On May 21, 2014, Mike, crew chief, Dan and Jorge started work @ 7:45AM. |Mike was always asking, "Do you have any questions?"...a good sign in my book. The job was originally scheduled to take 2 days. Due to a call-in of sickness by a team member on the 2nd day of work. The project was pushed to two days. The project went relatively smoothly. Mike's team was diligent, professional and communicative. | |They initially hung plastic in three rooms of our basement to limit the amount of dust that would accumulate while they were jack hammering the cement on our foundation. | |The crew took extra care to let us know of the progress and timetable daily. | |During a check of our down spout system that Mike was going to use to hook into the sump pump. We found that there was a clogged down spout due to the ground settling over many years. Mike quickly came up with a solution that was very innovative and would not cost us any more money. He recommended and my wife and I concurred that Keystone would redirect the down spout to the EZ drain system that they were installing and cap the plugged line. This was accomplished in a very efficient manner. | |Mike and Dan's skill sets in preparing and finishing concrete were exceptional. Both were perfectionist. | |The crew worked extra hours on a holiday Friday to complete the job! | |I hope that the ownership of Keystone recognizes exceptional talent that they have in this crew. | |Finally, Mike was very proactive in telling us what could happen with the sod they place back onto the lawn and the cement that they used on the Driveway. He recommended using "Sika" cement joint compound that comes in caulking tubes to seal any cracks that would develop later between the new and old concrete in the driveway. | |I would give Keystone 9 out of 10 in an overall rating. | |Hopefully, in the next update review I can report effective running of the sump pump system and the EZ drain driveway. |

Member, thank you so much for the kind review. I never get tired of hearing that our inspectors where fair and honest...and did not "push" something unnecessary. The fact of the matter is that our inspectors are the bearers of bad news in some cases. Many times the bad news is unfortunate. People need to know that we are always going to treat them fairly and honestly. Thank you for helping the public know that we are a fair and honest company.

[Member Name Removed], after reviewing your field report you displayed Stage 3 damage to your wall. In light of this your problem warranted repair. I am sorry that you disagree with the findings. No one is ever pleased to received such information. That said, I feel that your opinion of us as a company based on what we found is erroneous. If one is so inclined they can read no less than 43 reviews where people have stated that we told them that nothing was wrong with their basement and were fair and honest with them. Please take the time and have a look...I think you will be surprised.

Description of Work: I contacted the provider and informed them that I was not aware of the meed to have both homeowners at the house when the inspection was performed. They told me it was noted on the Angie's list website. I told them my father is in his late 70's and I don't want any hard sale tactics. They told me to request a refund then from you.

Response from Keystone Basement Systems & Structural Repair Inc
Member, I don't know what I can say here. It is common sense that we have to meet with the person who owns the property in question. This is hardly a "sales tactic." We very well cannot go to peoples homes, without their consent, and perform an intrusive inspection. In most of our inspections we are cutting moldy drywall, removing paneling and performing other intrusive diagnostic functions to find out why the basement is leaking. How in the world are we going to do this without the homeowners consent? I am starting to get a little upset with the quality of reviews on Angie's List lately. If we cannot even ask for the actual owner of a property to be present at the inspection without receiving an "F" review from someone we neither talked to or met than I do not know what to do. For all of you reading this review the person who posted the 'F" was not even the person we scheduled the appointment with. Even worse, this person has given us an "F" because we asked for the owner of the property be present for the inspection...absurd! I am sorry if you can sense my frustration in this response. I am the president of Keystone and I founded this company. I care very deeply about my companies reputation and the work we do. We are not perfect. If you read our reviews you will see that when we make a mistake we own up to it, make it right and learn from the experience. Every company, like every person, makes mistakes. It is how you handle your mistakes that define you as a good company or a bad company. I love that Angie's Lists brings this into the open for all to see. When you are a good company you do not fear transparency...you thrive in it. Some of our best reviews are ones where something went wrong and we did everything in our power to make it right. It shows that we are both imperfect but willing to do what it takes to make the customer happy. Can there be a more honest stance for a company? But this review...this is absurd. In closing it has been my understanding that Angie's List only posts authentic reviews. Since we did not even schedule with this person I do not see how this review can stand. But if it does, I hope that you understand how absurd this is. How can we show up to a house and start demolishing drywall and other things without the home owners consent?

Description of Work: They don't seem to know who called them despite me leaving my name, number, address, and email more than once. When I talk with the person that answers the phone, they don't seem to know their own schedule so they can't schedule an appointment for me and keep telling me they'll call me back but they do not. They finally called me yesterday (July 23) to schedule an appointment but I am not interested in working with this company anymore. I've been trying to schedule an appointment since July 15.

Not well.
Description of Work: I find it amazing that there are still women like Marcia in 2013. This inquiry did not get beyond the initial phone call as I found Marcia assuming that I was the "little woman" ( I run 2 businesses) and that I had a husband (don't). When I expressed a need for only an hour appointment because of time constraints she became repetitive and condescending. Without asking I was then connected to the owner who basically stated that he wanted to know whether I would be an acceptable customer. At that point I said no thank you. Always remember who is writing the check!

Response from Keystone Basement Systems & Structural Repair Inc
I must say that this review is disappointing. Obviously we did not do a good enough job communicating with you. If you view our PUBLIC profile it clearly lists criteria for an appointment...none of which have anything to do with husbands or wives. Our only intention is to get all "interested parties" involved. Although this is posted on our Angie's List Public Profile I will post it here as well to avoid similar incidents in the future. Please read below: Keystone Basement Systems Inspection Process If you have received this message it is because you have some questions about our inspection process. We understand that our process may be different than what people are used to. With that in mind we wanted to make sure that all of our potential clients fully understood the motivations and reasons behind our process. The Philosophy Keystone Basement Systems (KBS) subscribes to a completely different inspection philosophy than most in the marketplace. Whereas most companies use commission-based salespeople with little training in foundation systems or foundation diagnostics, KBS employs highly trained inspectors who have achieved Basement Health Association Accreditations in Basement Waterproofing and Foundation Repair. Our philosophy is that inspectors who are well trained in their field should perform inspections. The philosophy seems simple, but operating in this way comes with tremendous challenges, as you will see explained below. Inspection Process One of the most fundamental differences between KBS and other companies is the inspection process. It is our core belief is that you must fully understand a problem before you can create an accurate solution. The challenge is that this process takes a little more time. On average our inspection process takes 25% to 50% longer than other companies. The benefit of a thorough evaluation is that you provide accurate and detailed solutions. The downside to this level of attention and detail is that we have less appointment times per day available. Inspectors At KBS we invest tremendous time and resources into our inspectors. Our inspectors have monthly continuing education requirements as well as formal training on a myriad of repair products and processes. KBS is the only company in western PA with Certified Waterproofing Specialists (CWS) and Certified Structural Repair Specialists (CSRS) on staff. Unlike other companies who hire untrained "salespeople" when they get busy, we do not. KBS will only allow trained inspectors to meet with homeowners. Therefore we have fewer inspectors than other companies. Scheduling As you can see, KBS is not a large firm with an army of under-skilled salespeople. Rather KBS is a smaller firm with a core of very well trained inspectors. Consequently we only have time to visit with serious clients and refuse approximately 30% of those who inquire for an inspection because they do not meet our scheduling requirements. Our Scheduling Requirements 1. You must own the property you wish to have inspected If you do not own the property in question we will not schedule an appointment with you. We do not meet with tenants, real estate agents or property speculators. If you are a buyer of a property you must have the seller contacts and schedule the appointment. 2. All interested parties must make themselves available for the inspection Serious homeowners would always make themselves available for the inspection because they are interested in what the inspector has to say. Your time is valuable, and so is ours. To offer the level of expertise that we do, at no cost, we only schedule appointments with serious homeowners who are interested in solutions for their issue. Our inspectors cover a great deal of detailed information and will need to ask questions about the history of the problem and future plans for the home. Therefore we will only meet with serious homeowners willing to have all interested parties available for the appointment. With that said, we understand that people are busy these days. To allow for all interested parties to be available we offer appointments 7 days a week from 10AM to 10PM...Even on Sundays. 3. The problem must be a basement waterproofing or foundation issue We ONLY fix foundation issue and nothing else. In closing, we hope that you consider KBS for your foundation inspection.

Description of Work: the service was to repair a foundation problem. A front bearing wall was cracking and pulling away. The floor of the garage in the area of the wall was also cracked. The person who showed up to do the estimate was supposed to be the general manager. He was pushy and unwilling to quote us a price that we could then compare against others offering the same service. His quote was only good if we agreed to have the work done on the day of his visit and the price changed a couple of times during the interview. Since we were sure the work needed done and we had already purchased the discount form Angie's List, we agreed even though we were uncomfortable with his actions, The agent was also in a very great rush to schedule the job. The work was actually subcontracted out . The team that did the work was polite, neat and timely in completing the actual repair. Unfortunately the work done did not include repairing the appearance of the area where the work was done, so we still have a badly cracked wall on the front of our house. We have contacted the company and after waiting for two weeks we were put in touch with the subcontractor who did the work. He was as confused as we were as his orders had only included the foundation repair and not the cosmetic completion of the job. He was to recontact the original agent and have him resolve the issue with us. A month later we still have heard nothing. Since the job was not completed as we understood it would be the service was extremely overpriced. ****They stood behind their work. We felt that they did not complete the work which was a mis-communication with the salesman. When the owner found out that we were upset he personally came out and finished the job. We are extremely happy with the work now. We would definitely recommend this company.

Dear Sir, I take objection with this post. All conversations are recorded for quailty assurances purposes so I reviewed yours carefully 3 times. From the onset of your call you were upset. One the second question we asked you "can you explain the problem you are having" and you were upset from that point on. Look, it is not good form to argue or bicker when responding so I will simply say this... You purchased a Big Deal. The Big Deal, as properly outlined in the description, is a full foundation diagnostic. It is not a 20 minute free estimate. The process takes 2-3 hours in some cases. This process is not free, nor will it ever be. It is, however, sometimes discounted on Angie's List.

Description of Work: The firm sent out a person with engineering background who assessed quickly, and I think accurately, the nature of the problem. Two men later came out to install the four epoxy wall "braces" that then protected the wall from bowing inward. They were meticulous, very nice, and finished the job within the appointed time frame. I have no way to compare prices since I went with this firm, which is the only reason I wrote good rather than excellent regarding price. I would definitely recommend this firm again.

Description of Work: I purchased the Big Deal to have Keystone look at my foundation issues and tell me what needed to be done to fix them. A young man came to my house, arriving somewhat late, and examined my house. He told me that he thought my drainage pipes might be clogged and that new drainage pipes should be installed, along with a sump pump. This sounded reasonable to me; however, he then quoted a price to do the work of roughly $15,000. He suggested installing the drains inside, as he felt that an entire sidewalk would have to be removed if it were done outside. I was so taken aback by the estimate being $15,000 (a lot considering how much the entire house cost!) that I didn't say: "How about putting the new pipes in NEXT to the sidewalk." He asked me if I could make a decision on whether to proceed, and I said "no." He seemed very nice, but I'm not convinced that his approach is the best. It certainly is very expensive! Also, I thought the Big Deal was more of a consultation as opposed to paying for a sales call. A professional assessment would be needed in order to do the work Keystone offers. Therefore, I don't know why I had to pay for this. I noted the professionalism to be only "fair" because I didn't think he should have asked me to make a decision right on the spot + I think the price was too high. I'm really only having trouble on one side of my house. Yet I was quoted for 3 sides of the house. No alternatives were offered. When I am ready to get this work done, I'll consider Keystone again, but I will also seek other opinions/estimates as the $15,000 seemed very high relative to the problems I'm having right now. I don't remember how much the Big Deal was, so the amount I spent is an estimate.

Description of Work: They did a complete basement waterproofing: French drains, two sump pumps, wall holes etc. Keystone sent Tony Aquilina and his crew to do the job. I have nothing but praise for them. They were knowledgeable, concerned with doing everything right, impeccably clean, polite, helpful, efficient, timely. I could not be more pleased. I have had two previous companies "waterproof" in the past, and both did it incompetently. Tony and the crew made it right. I would recommend Keystone and the Tony crew without reservation and with the highest praise.

Excellent.
Description of Work: Kevin Blank did a survey of our basement and gave us a fair estimate of the services needed to fix a possible problem with water leaks in our basement. When my wife reminded me that we had left an outside faucet on for twenty four hours a year ago, Kevin determined that the water stains that we saw were from that incident. He then said we didn't need the service at all. How honest and refreshing. We did have a minor problem with drainage from our front porch and Kevin said that since they have a minimum charge far exceeding the cost to fix this small problem, he suggested that I do it my self and told me how. A day later his supervisor called and explained to me in detail how to fix the problem and even told me where to buy the materials. If you want an honest evaluation and estimate for your basement water problems, this is THE place to call.

Description of Work: I have been having ongoing problems with water in my basement, and used Angie's list to have them a**** the problem. He was very helpful at diagnosing the problem. Others have been mostly puzzled. We did discuss that I had previous work done by another company with a warranty and he suggested I talk to them first. Description of Work: Applied 9 carbon fibre strips to two bowing walls in the basement. Tony the crew leader was very professional, turned up on time and walked through the finished project. The only negative was the "dust free" environment that was promised was compromised by a crew member blowing the contents of the grinder toward the house after the work was finished. Other then that, the job was done as promised. Additionally, the price that was originally quoted was lowered due to a scheduling hole that needed to be filled, and to match a competitors price. Overall - pleased with the job.

Description of Work: The owner of the business arrived promptly and, after surveying the area, gave us an estimate. We chose not to use them and are going with another company basically based on price.
