I am a repeat customer, having used them before to handle a gas leak in my laundry area. I had a stack pipe leak. They assessed the problem, explained what needed to be done. Performed the work in a timely, professional manner providing great care to the bathroom and to the surrounding work area, using drop cloths as needed. This work required cutting an opening in an adjoining bedroom wall to reach pipes needing replaced. An access panel was constructed and installed and the finishing work was excellent. There was also some other minor plumbing that was done. The men were courteous and kept me informed about the work. This a fine, family run business and a pleasure to work with. I definitely recommend them and would hire them again.

I called John Haughey and and Sons plumbing to repair a leaking drain in the laundry room. I had attempted to repair this myself but was a little concerned about where the drain tied into the main sewer. I had first called another plumber, and they promised to get back to me in a day or 2 but never did. I then called John Haughey based on a recommendation from a family member. I explained by issue and concern to the man that answered the phone and he seemed very knowledgeable and assured me that they would be out the next day and would be able to resolve the issue. The next morning, John called me about 8am to ensure that I was home, and said he would be there in about 1/2 hour. He did show up at exactly 8:30 and I showed him the problem. He said he would be able to fix it and would add a vent pipe as well to get it up to code. I also asked John to look at a leaking shutoff for the dishwasher, which was nearby and although I hadn't scheduled that work he said he could fix that as well but would have to turn the water off briefly. John did complete all work in less than an hour and did a great job. He replaced all the pipes and ensured that the tie in at the main was sealed and that a proper vent was in place. He also replaced the old shutoff for the dishwasher with a new ball valve. Great Job! John and I discussed some other plumbing that I would like to do in the near future and i'll definitely be using John Haughey and Sons.

Showed up as expected to estimate job. Did the smaller jobs the same day and returned a few days later to complete the bigger job at the shed. Workers were prompt, courteous and helpful. All the work was done satisfactorily and quickly. The estimate I received was very reasonable, but haven't received the actual invoice yet. There was a little confusion about the day they were to come back to complete the job, but were very apologetic about the confusion and showed up on time after the date was re-confirmed.
Description of Work: Had a broken pipe in shed wall for hose connection. Relocated pipe to other side of shed so it was not necessary to cut wall. Also fixed several small problems with leaks in sinks, toilets and another hose connection at the house.

Here is why I'll be calling on John Haughey Plumbing and Heating John Haughey Plumbing and Heating again: The two young men who fixed the problem HAD EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ME. They didn't, and having been taken advantage of in the past, I can assure you, this was a welcome relief. The price was more than fair. The quality of their service was unsurpassed. Responsiveness was spot on, and they completed the job in record time. Finally, their professionalism was exemplary. In my humble opinion, you can't go wrong with John Haughey Plumbing and Heating.
Description of Work: I noticed mold on the bottom course of concrete block in my garage. I knew the outside gutter ran parallel to the garage. I feared the worst. I called John Haughey Plumbing and Heating yesterday afternoon (September 4, 2013). Jay returned my call this morning, less than 15 hours later which, in and of itself, should be noteworthy. On occasion, I've had contractors who simply didn't return my call. Two employees (one of whom was "Ray;" the other name escapes me) arrived at my home at 8:45 AM. They assured me that it was, in all probability, a relatively minor problem of debris clogging the system. They were right.

There was a break in the sewer line under the basement floor and we were unable to use the master bathroom located on the mail level of the house. The plumbers were professional, knowledgeable and trustworthy. They jackhammered an opening in the floor, excavated the dirt, replaced the broken pipe, added new dirt, concreted the opening and cleaned up the area. Mr. Haughey advised us of the responsibility of homeowners insurance and provided the insurance company with a detailed account of the work. The insurance paid for the greater portion of the total bill. That would not have happened without his involvement. I am very satisfied with the job and would highly recommend this company to anyone.

They arrived for an estimate. John called with estimate. Over the phone, he stated that they would jack hammer up the basement to find the broken pipe and would replace bad part of sewer pipe, use fill from that dig, back fill trench, then fill with concrete and finish trench. He also stated over the phone that his estimate was on the high side because it included bringing A-1 Sewer (they initially found the break in the line--good company, used at least 6 times--prompt, great) back to the property to run a camera through the line prior to them closing the trench. John also stated that if they got in there and it was worse, bill could be more. We agreed that he would call first with any proposed additional work. They showed up at the house (a rental property of mine) as promised and began the work. I never heard anything from him until 2 days later when he said the work was complete and there was an additional and quot;couple hundred dollar charge.and quot; I then became angry stating that no one had told me about this. He stated that the fill in the basement was unusable and he had to have a dump truck full of stone brought in. The trench was just that, not the entire basement. I then asked about the camera and if it had been run through the line prior to closing the trench. He said and quot;we don't do that.and quot; To which I replied, you said you would have A-1 return. He denied ever stating this, then asked where it was written in the contract. I had never received a contract, nor did I sign anything. In retrospect, this should have been a red flag. I receive and sign contracts to authorize work for large jobs. This estimate was approximately 2000. I argued with John to no avail. It ended with him stating and quot;what did I care, I was selling the place in 2 months.and quot;. I explained that the house was on the market for two years and It wasn't selling. I also said that regardless of sale, I paid for a job that did not get satisfactorily completed. I then received a bill for an additional 550. I emailed him that I never authorized the additional work and he never fulfilled what was promised and I did not pay the additional money. I would have left it at that, but today I received a call from the tenant stating there was another sewer backup in the basement. I called John after hours-his cell message was that he was probably eating or doing something else and couldn't answer. Unprofessional, in my opinion. I left voice mail on office phone. They got back to me later stating that his voice mail did not say that, etc... I told him that there might be debris in the trap from the repair. He stated that rocks will not block a sewer pipe. The phone call ended with him calling me a and quot;r*****.and quot; I had explained to him that I had run an HVAC business for a time and that he was not dealing with someone who knew nothing about service work. Long story short, I had to spend an additional $300.00 with A-1 Sewer. They found debris from the repair stuck in the trap and were able to use a shop vac to get it out and remove the blockage.

John Haughey came to give us an estimate approx. 2 weeks before date of work. Estimate turned out the be the lowest by a few dollars and they were the closest (geographically) outfit that gave us an estimate. I almost went with someone else but they were a bit higher in cost and did not offer to replace the drywall that they had to cut though too. I thought I may patch the wall but wanted the option to have them do it. I almost did not go with these guys because I felt that their drywall repair estimate (which was about the same cost as the plumbing job) was too high. John seemed like a real pro by the way he talked on the estimate. I first was surprised to need the work, then surprised to find out that a cast iron drain pipe would have been tied to galvanized pipe going through the roof. Both estimators told me that this was the case and also explained how this cast iron failed. Although cast iron can last a lifetime frequently on track homes (this was one) the plumbers used the cheapest thinnest wall stuff that they could find. After coming out I saw that the stuff was thin. It was original and the house was built in 1949. John said that his son-in-law and would come out to do the work. He told me that he was young but had been working for him since he was 17 and knew what he was doing. John (I believe this was his son-in-law's name too) came with a helper. They quickly went over the work to be done with me and proceeded to cut the drywall. While the helper removed the toilet John secured the galvanized stack pipe going up through the roof with a strap to the 2x4's in the wall so it would not fall when the drain pipe directly below it was cut. They cut and removed the old pipe. They also removed the old toilet flange. Next they measured cut and installed the new PVC pipe and toilet flange. They did not have to replace most of the lavatory pipe since it was already replaced with PVC. They checked the drain from the tub (even though it was copper). They told me that copper drains can fail too because water tended to cut a path over time in the soft copper and wear only one side until it was very thin. They determined that the copper to the tube was fine. They made all of the tie-ins and then replaced the toilet on the flange. I even asked them to fix the sink drain trap (which leaked) and they did it. I felt that the drywall estimate was too high and since their drywall guy could not come for another week (which was OK since the house was not live in at the time) this gave me time to think about it. Overall I fell I got what I paid for - a professional job from start to finish! They were real pros with good equipment and they knew what they were doing.
Description of Work: Cut and replace old 3" cast iron stack drain, replace old toilet flange, reconnect to tub and bathroom sink drains. Tied into existing 2" galvanized vent going through the roof.
