My experience was excellent from start to finish. I called to set up an appointment and got one the very next day! Jason and his team arrived on time and were very polite and professional. He explained what the problem was and the service they were going to provide. I will definitely use them again in the future and would also recommend them!

Jason responded almost immediately to my message, provided an initial estimate and was able to schedule an appointment within a matter of days. They arrived as promised and installed two new lighting fixtures, one of which was a handblown glass chandelier from Italy. Not only did they perform a rather tricky installation (given that the chandelier did not include a mounting plate), but they also assembled and wired it. I would definitely use them again.

Jason had given us an estimate back in 2012 and we keep putting off getting the breaker box upgraded until we absolutely had to do it as we had no more space in the box. I called Jason and he updated the original estimate, however the price quote was the same which I was very surprised by considering its been over 2 years since the estimate. The work was scheduled for Friday November 14, however Jason called to see if it could be done on the 11th (Veteran's Day). I was more than glad to have to work done earlier. ON the 11th Dave and Steve came out to do the work. Now are box is in a finished basement in a closet with very little room to move and to get the new service into the house looked like a feat of miracles! Everyone was pleasant, easy to work with and we couldn't be happier with the new service. I highly recommend Hufnagel Electric and would/will use them again and recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

So this review is overdue... Hufnagel is a Father and Son company. They both are polite, very professional, competent, punctual and considerate. We started using them earlier in 2012 on smaller projects and then ended the year with them replacing our electrical box. When we bought our house in the fall of 2009 we knew that we would eventually need a new electrical box but wanted to wait until we had found a trusted electrician to do it. As you can see buy the dates on the services that they provided, the last time we need to use them was in the fall of 2012 when they installed our electrical box. We have had absolutely NO issues since the install!! I just got off the phone with Jason (the son) to schedule a job for them to install a 110 volt box for our new water heater. I have't spoken to Jason for nearly 2 years and he remembered our house. He was very sensitive to any timing issues since it is for a water heater but luckily we are replacing it before it breaks so this was not an urgent/emergent call. Nonetheless he is sending me the estimate via e-mail today along with appointment times available which includes this Thursday. There is s sense of relief to know that we have a reliable electrician!! I encourage you to give them a call for your next electrical needs!!
Description of Work: - November 2014 - waiting estimate for 110 volt box for new hot water heater - October 2012 - $,850 - New 200 amp box and all that goes along with that - October 2012 - $285 - Problems with basement heat floor and lighting (from previous contractors) - August 2012 - $475 - Install new power source and install motion light in front of garage (included lights) - May 2012 - $560 - Install new ceiling fan in vaulted cedar ceiling - required electrical box etc (including fan & remote)

The electrician and his assistant were polite and professional. The quality of their work was excellent and they cleaned up after themselves. They do not work by the hour. Instead they estimate a price based on the work to be done. The amount for the entry hall light was high because the electrician said it was more complicated than it looked. He thought that he would have to go through the crawl space of the floor above. Once he started working on it he realized it was a simple fix...much easier than he had anticipated. The price did not change however. We felt that we paid way too much for a job that took twenty minutes. The one thing that really bothered us was that Mr. Hufnagel told us that if we wrote a review (good or bad) he would send us a gift card. It made us realize that all the good reviews were motivated by the chance of getting something back and not necessarily because they were so pleased with the work done. We have used Angie's List numerous times and have never experienced this before. Perhaps it is Mr. Hufnagel's way of saying thank you but it creates an uneven playing field among service providers. Now we wonder about all of the Angie's List Award Winners and are not so likely to trust the reviews.
Description of Work: The entry hall light did not work. Electrician rewired box. I installed new light fixture. Electrician installed exhaust fan in bathroom. I provided the fan and the foil tubing to connect to the already installed exhaust pipe.

Response from Hufnagel Electric
Total work completed for $700.00 as stated by customer, please read the following and we hope to hear from you for your future electrical needs: Jason Hufnagel Performed (1) hour of trouble-shooting procedures on foyer light (1-hour minimum rate) Performed wiring adjustment in foyer lighting box to make ready for light install, by customer as requested Installed (1) GFCI receptacle in kitchen Installed (1) new double gang j/c in bathroom Install (1) new tandem single pole switch in bathroom Installed (1) new GFCI receptacle in bathroom Installed (1) new exhaust fan circuit in bathroom Installed (1) new exhaust fan since there was no exhaust fan in bathroom previously, then terminate to existing roof vent installed by roofing company. (The home had no attic access, only 12x12 opening we cut to work through that was later filled with exhaust fan provided by customer, doing this prevented the customer from spending further money on plaster work) The initial proposal that was provided was for $1,725.00 to cover all the electrical items that these customers wanted completed. After they received our proposal they contact us and had us revise the proposal to reduce their cost and complete only the essential items totaling the amount listed by the customer. After revising the estimate we included (1) hour to complete a trouble shoot on their front foyer light, (1) hour is our companies minimum charge for trouble-shooting as explain on our initial visit to perform estimate. We assumed that this was not going to be a simple due to the customers stating (2) other service calls had been perform by other electric companies on this same electrical problem with no resolution. Hence, our initial proclamation that we would probably have to go to a crawl-space access and the fix may be invasive. So, once we got on site we disassemble the switch and removed the cover they had on the lighting junction box. After 45 minutes of trouble-shooting we located and corrected a Knob&Tube wiring issue. I myself figured that after paying (2) other electric companies that yielded no result, this customer would be pleased to have found a service provider to pay that actually located and fixed their lighting issue. However, if that were the case I would not be writing this response. We also had an exterior spot light installation on the back corner of the home to perform on this same service date. Prior to starting the installation of this portion of the job we brought the customer into the back yard and explained to them that with the tree coverage they had in the side/back yard installing the light where the existing circuit would reach would not provide them with the quality of light they would be looking for. So instead of installing the new junction box & light to turn a profit, we felt it better to inform our customer of the facts so they could make an informed decision as well as save money. With all those facts above to provide our company with a “D” for pricing is unfair, especially since all of our pricing is upfront and didn’t change from their initial proposal. We have spoken to the customer and hope they consider making changes to their review to better explain their overall experience with Hufnagel Electric.

I left a voice mail for the owner of Hufnagel Electric "Jason Hufnagel" one evening after I was having some issues with half of my house tripping on and off then just off. Jason was extremely responsive, called me back real quick and reviewed how his service calls work and how much it would cost to have him come out and trouble shoot. He showed up with a crew of 3, all of whom were very professional. After a short amount of time trouble shooting, they found the issue then gave me an estimate and immediately began to fix the problem. The process was very professional, onetime and clean with very good communication throughout. I would highly recommend this company for work and would use them again if I needed anything.
Description of Work: - Performed consultation and visual inspection - Performed (1) hours of trouble shooting procedures on electrical circuits thoughout home - Found (1) open junction point that was sealed with electrical tape and not enclosed in a propoer weather-proof j/c box - Eliminated open junction point and removed section of burnt wiring to correct tripping breaker - Installed (1) weather-proof j/c box, proper weather-proof connections to prevent moisture, and terminated wires

When he looked at my light, he fiddled with the buttons to see if he could make it work. He then told me that they had to be played with in order to make the light work. My ceiling fan would go from nothing to full speed. He took the fan down and determined that it would need a part. He took the motor portion with him, leaving the blades and the lights. As he left, he informed me that the 5% senior discount wasn't applied until the very end, which doesn't make sense to me. A little while later, Jason called. He informed me that it will be $295 to repair the fan. I sent them an email requesting that they return the part that they took because I don't want to pay that much to have it repaired. I have yet to hear back from them.

10/1/2014 Customer called our company to ask if we could send someone out to check operation of 3 ceiling fans that were not working. Quoted price of Troubleshoot & Consult on phone and price was accepted. Arrived at site at approximately 1:30pm. Checked 3 fans. All had programmable controls and we were able to reprogram 2 fan controls. 3rd fan had a broken fly wheel. Recommended that customer replace fan and she said “I love that fan “and asked if we could repair it. We said we would try to get a replacement part and removed the fan to take with us and make repair if we found part. Called customer within 2 hours and informed her we found part online. We quoted price for part, motor rebuild, and re-installation of fan. She agreed to price and we ordered part. 10/3/2014 Part arrived by mail. 10/5/2014 Rebuilt fan assembly with new fly wheel. 10/6/2014 Received email from customer that a.m. informing us that the price was too high and she wanted us to return the fan and not repair it. We went to the residence that afternoon and informed the customer that the fan had already been repaired and was ready for installation. If they did not want us to install the fan they would still have to pay for the part and repair before we would hand over the fan. We offered to install the fan and charge the quoted price from the previous Wednesday for the work defined in the original quote. The customer agreed to have us install fan. When we were done, fan operated correctly and without problem after programming control. When presented with invoice, it was explained that we gave customer a 4% discount on initial charges when we first visited the residence. We discounted the charges for this day by 10% as an act of good faith. We left the site with the feeling that no matter what we offered the customer short of free, they would not be pleased. We treated the customer with respect as we do all our customers and even took a look at her garbage disposal, which wasn’t working, on our first visit. This was not part of the original contract and the 1 hour limit on the Troubleshoot had expired. We are sorry that the customer was not pleased with our service. We do not feel that the report she filed on Angie’s List was a fair review of our company or our work. We will use this experience as an example to train our employees that there are times when no matter how hard you try to please your customers, sometimes you can’t. As long as you know you gave your best effort, that’s what counts.

my elderly mother was experiencing problems with her electricity. The power would go out, come back, go out etc. over 2 days. Thursday night through Saturday morning. She called Duquesne Light on Saturday and they did come promptly. The Duquesne Light technician, after ascertaining that the problem was inside the house, not with their lines, came in & checked the circuit breaker (which he did not have to do, we were grateful for his kindness) and told her that's where the problem was. I checked Angies list for electricians with Saturday hours or who would provide emergency service and Hufnagel Electric was the most responsive. Jason answered himself and after I explained the situation said he would contact his technicians out in the field and see if any of them were in her area. If not, he said he would come himself. Since he didn't have anybody in her area Jason did come himself. He showed up about an hour after I called. He diagnosed and repaired the circuit breaker. He was done in under an hour. Gave my mother the Senior Citizen discount and was very comforting and reassuring to her. He was extremely professional, polite and clearly an expert. It was a tremendous relief to all of us and we were very grateful everything was resolved quickly and efficiently. I would definitely use Hufnagel electric again - both for my mother & for any work I would need as well.

Everyone at Hufnagel Electric was aces in my opinion. Jason originally did the estimate for me and after considering to do the job for a while we exchanged some emails because I wanted to add a couple of changes, he was kind enough to come out with his team that would be doing the work and look at the specifics again to make sure there were no mistakes and that what he quoted would be honored. A couple of days later Jason's Dad and Steve showed up EXACTLY when they said they would, did the work as specified, and if they had any concerns they asked before they went any further, they did not just assume that they knew what I would want. They completed the service in what I would say was a very timely, professional manner and didn't leave a mess behind. I would highly recommend Jason and his company for any electrical work you may be looking for. I know when I have future work to be done I will definitely go to them first for their input and quote.

Jason, Steve, and Dave are excellent. We originally contacted them because we were experiencing some problems with the house's electrical system and in particular, a short in the diningroom light. They fixed the light, replaced some switches/an outlet, and did some troubleshooting of the electical system on their first visit. They found water in our circuit box due to a crack in the jacket on the exterior electrical service. It took two more visits to finish the work that we agreed on. They always arrived within the window of time that they specified. They were polite, thorough, and cleaned up their work areas upon completion of the job. I especially appreciated the fact that Jason took the time to explain exactly what he was doing and why he recommended the repairs and replacements. He also gave the cost of each job up front and there were no surprises or hidden costs. We will definitely use them the next time we need an electrician.

Went exactly as planned. Sent three workers who finished all jobs within 1 hour. Guys were neat, and professional. Price seemed high, but this was the only company who responded to my request. I liked their detailed estimate and were very easy to work with to trim a few extras I had asked for,but decided were out of my budget. They were organized and prepared to the jobs we had discussed. They identified and fixed additional issues found with the neutrals in the panel. These guys were great! They came the same day I called, although it was after their regular work hours. As it turned out, I needed a plumber, but they showed me what was wrong on my water heater (which the plumber from Gillece did not do) and ended up changing out my breaker. The plumber they recommended (Joe Grguras) called me back quickly, came out the next morning and fixed my heater (on his day off!) I must mention that I was quite a way out from both the plumber and electrician's area, yet they responded quickly. I would definitely use them again.

We dealt with Jason and his dad when we first purchased our house 3 years ago, and when we needed more work done we didn't even think about calling anyone else. Working with the Hufnagel Electric is an easy, streamlined process - you get an estimate promptly, they always show up on time (giving you a call when they are on their way), work gets done quickly, they make sure you understand everything they are doing, and if they find any additional issues that need to be corrected they let you know and do not proceed without the homeowner's approval of the additional work and cost associated with it. Hufnagel Electric crew are consummate professionals and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

The power in half of our house started sporadically going off and on without tripping any breakers, so we knew we needed an electrician to come check out the problem. We have never had electrical work done before, so didn't have an electrician on hand, and after reading the reviews here, we chose Hufnagel. Right off the bat, I was extremely pleased with the level of communication and courteousness shown. I called late on a Friday afternoon and was told that while they were currently on another job for the rest of the day, someone would try to stop by at the end of the day if possible but would otherwise be there first thing the next morning (after double checking that it was in fact something that could wait until the next day if needed). Given that I had said it was no problem to wait until the next day, and it was already late on a Friday, I wasn't expecting to hear from them until the next morning, but Jason called later that night to check in and to confirm he would be there between 7 and 8 a.m. Saturday. He also called again at 7 a.m. the next morning to let us know when he was on his way. He was on time and after we explained the issue, he got straight to work. He walked us through what he was doing and periodically called us over to explain something he saw. After about an hour of troubleshooting (which, for this type of problem, involved going outlet to outlet to determine if there were loose wires/other issues inside), he pinpointed the main problem, explained what was going on and made the fix quickly. We were very happy with the service and will call Hufnagel for future electrical work without hesitation.

Outstanding! Jason and Scott were very professional and arrived on time. They replaced two very old breaker panels with one new 200 amp panel. The job took a lot of work, much more than expected, but Jason and Scott stayed beyond what most would consider normal working hours to finish. Jason clearly explained what needed to be done and even took the time to show us why. I highly recommend Hufnagel to anyone looking for electrical services.

I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. I had originally contacted Hufnagel electric last summer, and Jason was quick to respond and come over for a free estimate. The estimate was reasonable and I had every intention of getting the work done but the summer got away from me. I called him back this June and was pleasantly surprised to find he still had my information on file. He was still very thorough in describing the work he would do and gave me suggestions on installing the switch. He got me scheduled quickly and arrived on time (and called ahead to let me know when he was en route.) He arrived with a co-worker, Steve, who was equally pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable. They worked quickly and efficiently and left no mess behind - had I not been home at the time, I never would have known they were there (and it was raining that day, so that says something.) They even took the time to look for a line going to gutter heaters that we haven't been able to find, which I asked about that day. As a female, I appreciate when contractors, etc. take the time to explain things to me in a way I can understand and can do it patiently without being condescending or rolling their eyes. Steve and Jason both were some of the most respectful people I have ever come across in doing work at my house. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Ran a line for an attic fan and installed a switch to the line.
