They answered the telephone call promptly and tried to help me get the alarms, which had been going off for the last 15 min. They then got here within 45min. and spent considerable time tracking down the electrical box breaker(and marked it for the alarms afterwords) and then determining which alarms were defective and which were fine. Diagnostic was $140. They disconnected the faulty unit leaving everything else working and came back the next afternoon to replace the faulty unit at $145. They were prompt to meeting my needs in spite of their busy schedule and as always, friendly and informative.

Hufnagel Electric is the only provider that responded immediately and was available to accept my phone call into the evening, which was great because I work all day. They sent me an estimate right away and scheduled the work upon my acceptance. Dave and Bryan arrived timely, were extremely courteous and professional. They also finished the job within the hour and provided an explanation of what had happened and what they had done. I will definitely call Hufnagel again. They clearly take pride in the business name, their work, and have a commitment to service. None of the other two electricians that I had called before finding Hufnagel were interested in the job. One electrician actually told me that the job was "too small" for him to handle, i.e., I was not important enough for him to bother - despite the fact that this outlet was connected to my standalone freezer and radon system, which was kind of a very big deal to us. I would never treat a client this way. Little does that guy know it's the small jobs that often lead to the big jobs and repeat business - particularly when the potential client he discarded works with 130 other people who request referrals for electrical and other services on a regular basis. That other electrician will never get a referral for me but Hufnagel will. A thank you to Dave Hufnagel for making me feel like I "matter."

Excellent from start to finish. They were immediately in contact with me after my initial email. They had given me a quote and secured an appointment within two days. Really excellent work in a very old (over 100 years) house where the previous owners cut corners and made a lot of mistakes during the self-renovation. We greatly appreciate that Hufnagel Electric was able to work through the problems and give us a great new fan!

I paid Hufnagel Electric $165 to repair a bathroom light fixture which required less than one hour of their time (40 min to be exact). I called the company because I saw a ?today?s deal? - $75 to replace a GFCI outlet. I talked to Jason on the phone who said that to replace an outlet or a non-functioning wall switch would be $75, but if the problem was not the switch, he would need to ?troubleshoot? the problem. I said that I would just pay to have the wall switch repaired . As it turned out, the problem was not the wall switch. It took Jason and his partner about 10 minutes to show me that the current to the wall switch was good. Did I want him to ?troubleshoot? to figure out the problem? He said that it would cost $100 for him to ?troubleshoot? the problem and an additional amount to repair the problem. I should have said ?No,? but I signed the contract which said that Iwould pay $100 to troubleshoot. That was in addition to the $40 service call. I helped Jason remove the light fixture above the sink and, instantly, the light went on because he showed me the loose wiring for the fixture. He said the repair would be $25. I agreed (I couldn?t leave the light fixture dangling). It took no more than 20 minutes for he and his partner to replace the plastic caps covering the splices joining the wires attached to the fixture. They re-installed the light fixture and re-attached the wires in the light switch controlling the light fixture. They provided one new switch as well as a new wall plate. He said that he would not charge extra for the switch or wall plate (probably a $3 cost). The total time for the diagnosis and repair was no more than 40 minutes. I would guess that the going rate for plumbers and electricians is about $80 an hour. I don?t think that it is common practice for a plumber or electrician to charge $100 to ?troubleshoot.? I have had many plumbing, heating and roofing repairs and never had to pay $100 to troubleshoot. No one should be asked to sign a contract to pay $100 to ?troubleshoot? (most contractors provide free estimates for the work). Diagnosing a problem is part of the repair process I have no recourse because I did sign the contract to pay $100 to diagnose the lighting problem. I would have felt that a fair price for 1 hour or less of electrical work would be $80-$90, at the most --- not $165. Buyer beware ?.
Description of Work: The provider fixed loose wiring attached to a bathroom light fixture and reattached the wires on the bathroom light switch. The provider also installed one new light switch in the bathroom as well as a new wall plate.

Response from Hufnagel Electric
Initially this customer call regarding one of our store front offers. We did not have a store front offer at the time that matched her situation. But I said we would match the pricing on one of our store front offer for a switch replacement. After speaking to customer over the phone and informing prior to scheduling the switch may not be the problem and we may have to enter into a trouble shoot contract if the switch replacement was not the issue. She felt that would not be the circumstance since she last has a handyman service replace the switch 2 years ago and that corrected the issue then. We then schedule a date for service at a rate of $75.00 to have a technician come out and replace the switch only. Once I and another technician arrived on site we tested the switch the customer wanted replaced and informed her that the switch was working properly and a new switch would not resolve her problem. The customer then provided us the switch that was removed by the handyman 2 years prior, it tested as working properly. At this time I told her she could have us trouble-shoot the issue on an hourly basis and provided her a contract (with all pricing & details) that she was able to read as we wait. After she had read it she seemed a bit hesitant to enter into the contract, at that point I told her we didn't have to perform the trouble-shoot and she could pay a discounted $40.00 service call fee and we would be on our way. She replied that it needed fixed and to please proceed since we were already out there. With the experience of the technicians our company employee we are able to find most electrical issues quickly. That was the case in this time, as we started to remove the 4 bulb light fixture the light came on which immediately told us it was a wiring issue in the light fixture. After repairing the wiring issue in the light, we gave her a complimentary single pole switch install to operate an exhaust fan as well as a double new switch cover, which do not cost $3.00. The total amount of complimentary parts and services totaled $40.00. The reason I decided to give the complimentary services, we had the junction box opened and second single pole switch showed significant signs of wear. Doing this would prevent the customer from having to contact a service provided in the near future which would cost her addition money. I am sorry that this customer feels our costs are too high at $165.00 for a service call, trouble-shoot (finding the actual issue), & completing a repair (that will stand the test of time). Maybe in the future she should contact her handyman service to correct her electrical issues. Cause after reading the customers review of our company it is very clear the cost of corrections out weighs the fact that electrical hazards over looked by an untrained person can be dangerous. This is just proof to me that no good deed goes unpunished, hence her review.

We had an estimate of the work to be done, and upon finding it to be fair and reasonable booked the job. Jason and his crew arrived on time and got right to work. They were all very professional and friendly. They went over everything that needed to be done and when any questions arose, were sure to ask us exactly what we wanted. They worked very efficiently and clean. The end result was exactly what we wanted. Hufnagel Electric exceeded our expectations and we would not hesitate to use them again.

I learned that the fan has a heater, and I was smelling dust. The heater did not usually come on, so Jason checked the switches and found a loose connection. He replaced the cap, and his partner did a thorough check of the fan to make sure there were no signs of burning. I was pleased that Jason was able to get me on the schedule so soon as I had called on Saturday.

These folks returned our original call promptly and fit us into their schedule quickly when a cancellation became available. They gave us an over-the-phone estimate up front and fine tuned it only a little when they reviewed the work in person. The team was punctual, efficient and very professional. I was very happy that three electricians came to do the work at the same time. It really minimized the amount of time required to get all the work done and minimized the intrusion. They were also wonderful with our dogs.

The earlier outdoor safety light (LED) had been far too bright, and had shown directly into the neighbors' windows. Efforts to redirect it and to make the sensor less sensitive (so that wind blowing through the trees didn't set it off all night) were unsuccessful, even after a month of complaints to the previous electrician. The guys from Hufnagel Electric knew about this and therefore came with two possible alternatives. They wired up both of them so I could see the brightness and the direction of the light, and then we tested the triggering to get the sensitivity right. The light I chose came with adjustable settings, and was much more suitable for the location. Unfortunately the old light wasn't going to be useful to me, but since it was functional, they were going to give it to Habitat for Humanity, so that it could be used elsewhere. My only wish is that I'd started with them in the first place.
Description of Work: They fixed four things: 1. A faulty outlet switch 2 and 3. Replaced ballasts in fluorescent lighting fixtures (and installed the new style bulbs) 4. Replaced an outdoor safety light after a highly unsatisfactory job done by another electrician (not on Angie's List, and no longer my electrician)

Brothers Jason and Brian routed cable TV line from basement through garage and up into Living Room. They did a great job routing the cable through the joists in the basement. Special care was taken to minimize the hole size and appearance when routing between the basement and the garage. Brothers did a great job angling the hole through the garage ceiling into the Living Room wall, They were able to do this without having to cut a square 4" x 4" access hole in the garage ceiling to access the wall up above. Cosmetically you would never know I had this work done. I had a competitor review and bid on this job a week ago. Their quote was ~ $960.00 vice the $330.00 Hufnagel charged and the 4" x 4" access hole would have been required. I would have then had to perform a drywall repair of the access hole had I gone with the competitor. Hugnagel scheduled this work on very short notice (1 week). Additionally they provided the quote over the phone. I had the confidence during the quote discussion that they frequently route cable TV lines. Based on their performance this is definitely true. Finally, they were courteous and professional and removed their shoes when walking on our carpeting. I highly recommend Hufnagel Electric.
