 + -1 moreThis is the second time I have used Fence by Maintenance Service. They installed a privacy fence at my last residence and based on that experience I called them for this job. It was a much bigger area to fence then the last time. Dan came right away to measure and provide an estimate. And they did a great job once again.
Description of Work: Installed 157 feet 6 foot privacy fence, and 330 feet of split rail with vinyl coated chain link, 4 walk gates and 1 double drive gate.

 + -1 moreGood experience. This was a 2 hour job, so it was a very small job for the company. Instead of quoting me a full day's labor, the company had an employee come on a Saturday to do the job. This is why I hired them. A competitor quoted me a much higher labor fee. The materials were identical (i.e. same brand of fencing). A mistake was made during the installation - mistake was corrected with just one phone call and without a hassle. We really appreciated the "no hassle" and quality work. I would recommend the company and hire them again.

 + -1 moreDespite the fact that this company's web site (http://www.fencebyfms.com) states the following regarding split rail fences... " Sometimes, parts of split rail fencing will need to be replaced. Whether you need one piece, one section, or a whole new fence, Fence By Maintenance Service, Inc. is there to help!" ...when I called, I was told that replacement of two posts and the corresponding rails was too small of a job, but that there was someone there who does that kind of work "on the side". I left my name and number. When I was called back, and I explained the work needed, and then said that we were in the south hills of Pittsburgh, I was told that was "too far" (and that, plus "Sorry!", was the last thing I heard before they hung up), despite the fact that the profile on Angie's List says that they cover the "entire area". Not sure what "area" is being referred to there. So, this company may indeed do very nice work, but don't bother calling unless you have a BIG job. And the information on their web site may or may not be accurate.
Description of Work: We needed repair work on a split rail fence (2 posts replaced and some rails either replaced or just re-set).

 + -1 moreAfter waiting a year for a local fencing company, that had put in a 50' by 50' by 8' high chain link fence in my upper yard area, to "fit" me in his schedule,and getting very tired of his excuses, I called Dan at Fence By Maintenance Service in Wexford, Pa., and my call was answered within that work day. Dan came out within that week to give me an estimate. The price was $300.00 less than my local guy. I was scheduled within two weeks. Dale and his two crewmates arrived the first thing in the morning of the scheduled day and immediately started to work. The crew was courteous and professional and had my 196' of fencing up by early afternoon. Great guys did a great job! Cannot say enough about the quality of their work.Very pleased. My neighbors have all commented on how nice the fence looks.
Description of Work: We had 196' of 4' high green vinyl coated chain link fence installed over uneven terrain in our side and back yard areas.

 + -1 moreThis company was recommended on Angie's list and my experience was terrific. They were prompt in doing the work (indeed they installed the fence at an earlier date than I expected). The work was completed quickly; they cleaned up the debris to the point you would not know work was done on the property. And the finished job looks terrific. The fence replaced an older split-rail fence that was falling down. When they measured for the new fence, they configured it in a way that is much more attractive than the original.

 + -1 moreThis is usuall a two person job, but with me being retired I was able to do it myself. It's nice to have a pickup truck with tow hooks in the front and a come along to stretch the chain link fabric. When you purchase terminal posts including corners posts from Fence by Maintenance Service all hardware is included in the post price, which are sold separately from the box stores.
Description of Work: I'm a DIY person, who usually fixes things myself. When my chain link fence was hit about 2 months ago, I filed a police report and submitted a cost of repair to my insurance company. I received payment for the repairs and after some checking I decided that I was able to repair the fence myself. I checked out the local box stores (Lowes and Home Depot), they didn't carry everything that I needed; if fact most of the replacement items were 2 two week back order. I checked out the Fence by Maintenance Service Site and gave them a call. The do sell retail, so I gave them my list of materials and they had everything is stock. The store is approximately 20 miles from my home so I drove there and picked-up everything I needed. I estimated that it would cost at least $500.00 for the materials. I was surprised that I was able to save $170.00 It took me 2 days to make the repairs. One day to remove old bent posts and concrete in new ones, with 24 hours for concrete to set. Second day I was able to finish the job. Do have a complete list of the items that you will need. If possible have a drawing of the posts, gates and dimensions in feet and inches of how much fence fabric you’ll need.

 + -1 moreThe whole process went very smoothly, from the estimate to the scheduling to the installation. Everyone that we encountered was very professional, and the fence is very good quality. We have been very pleased with the fence. This was not done with pre-fab sections. Each post was mounted in a cement base, and then the individual horizontal and vertical boards were added one by one. The workers were obviously very skilled and experienced as they worked quickly and efficiently, but with a high level of quality. They cleaned up thoroughly. There was one place where the ground was uneven and they came up with a great solution for that so that there wouldn't be a gap under the fence. Overall, we are extremely pleased with our fence and gate and haven't had any problems in the last 5 years with it.

 + -1 moreI called them the prior week and gave them the approximate size and details of the fence and the owner, Dave, gave me an approximate price over the phone. It was much lower than previous estimates I got. He could not come out that week, but said that he would come at the beginning of the next week - and did. He measured the yard on Monday 2/14/2011 and his estimate was almost exactly the same as his phone estimate. He was able to begin the next day, which was important as I was moving in on that Friday 2/18 and wanted the fence in so that I could let my dogs out. They had the posts in on Tuesday and finished the job by Thursday that week (2/17). The work was excellent and the fence is great - exactly where I wanted it and exactly as ordered. Everything was great and the price was unbeatable. Dave arrived on time for the estimate, and had the fence in one day earlier than agreed. The work was professional, on time, and as requested.
Description of Work: They provided a phone estimate based on the feet of fence, number of posts and gates I needed. They came out and measured and provided a written estimate. They then installed the fence (chain link) and finished one day early.

Description of Work: Dave Hartman is an amazing person, not only as an owner of his family company, but as someone who cares. I called him on a cold and wintry day to see if he could install a fence for me within the next week. Not only did he come out to my home one hour after we talked on the phone to provide an estimate, he offered to begin the job in the following week. The job was rather large as my back yard needed to be fenced in for two large dogs. Dave explained the materials, how the installation would proceed, walked with me around the perimeter of my yard and offered suggestions on better placement which afforded me extra room for my dogs to run. He works with two guys that completed the install, Ron and Dale, who were extremely efficient and in the coldest of days, showed up on time, worked hard, and cleaned up carefully so no nails or sharp objects were left on the ground. I couldn't applaud this company any higher for their workmanship, quality of materials, and attention to detail and customer satisfaction. Amazing company, reasonably priced, and excellent service!

 + -1 moreThey stayed within the estimate. The one problem was with time frame; they had to build the fence around a tree and we had to call several times to get them to address the problem. The price was wonderful.

I called him on Friday to give him the job and he sent workers out on Monday. They did a nice job and the fence looks great.
Description of Work: We wanted 120 feet of split rail fence in a straight line on the side of the house. There was a tree in the path and we wanted to keep the tree with the fence leaving about six inches on each side. This is exactly the work performed.

Subsequently, I received a call from Dan at FMS after requesting information online through an affiliated fencing supplier. He was absolutely amazing and patient, as I am sure that I won the most difficult customer of the year award! Before even providing me with an estimate, he walked me through the entire process from what my township (McCandless) actually allows under its building code to what I needed to do to obtain the appropriate permit. My husband and I changed our minds several times as to what we wanted done, and Dan graciously stopped out each time to give us a new estimate. I am very satisfied with the work done and highly recommend them. Very rarely do I come across someone so patient and willing to please!

 + -1 moreI was not happy that this company presented itself on the web as available for all jobs when it is not. If they are that busy, shouldn't their computer be up and active, so they can personally respond to people whether they can take the job or not?
Description of Work: The work I wanted was not done. Even though the web site claims to do jobs large and small, the secretary gave me the name of another company: "They do small jobs like that." I took the time to describe the job in an e-mail since the e-address was listed by their name on Angie's List. After no response for two days, I called and the secretary told me, "Oh, we don't read our e-mail; our computer is down." I left a message for the manager to call me but he never did. After a second phone call to them, the secretary gave me the name of another company in the area that does small jobs like mine.

Gave professional opinions & advice without being pushy. Price quoted was price charged - no hidden fees. The installer did an EXCELLENT job. Each picket was individually attached & cut to fit so that line of fence was even all around, which was not an easy job, considering the undulating landscape. An impeccable job. Job site left spotless. Would hire again in an instant & would recommend to anyone.
