About us

David's Chimney service is owned and operated by Karen Dwyer. We have been in business for 26 years. Owner is almost always on sight. David passed away April 21, 2018. The business is continuing on in his honor. Please bare with me as finding a replacement has been very difficult. I am still taking appointments however getting to everyone is a challenge. I will be cutting back on chimney repairs especially during the busy cleaning season. Forms of payment are cash or check only. We always offer a neighborhood discount for 2 or more participating neighbors on the same day of service. Services provided are: Chimney Cleaning, Chimney Repair, Stainless Steel Relining for Furnace-Hot Water-Wood Stoves-Fireplaces, We install Stainless Steel Chase Covers and Chimney Caps as well as the Top mounting Lock-Top Damper TM. We waterproof chimneys as well. If you or anyone you may know is looking for seasonal part-time work please contact me directly. Pay is negotiable. (The less I have to physically do the better the pay)

We paid David?s Chimney Service $225.00 for 30 minutes of work. During the cleaning process, David apparently knocked off our chimney cap. We found it in the yard a few days later. We called at least 5 times asking him to come out and put the cap back on the Chimney. Finally, after leaving several messages we received a voicemail from David asking us to be patient. We are now 7 weeks later, still no action.
Description of Work: Accidentally knocked off our Chimney Cap while cleaning Chimney system.

The chimney cap was still on the chimney both before and after the chimney was cleaned as observations were made by both [Member Name Removed] and Karen. It is unfortunate that this occurred an effort was made to rectify this situation. The chimney cap was not installed by our company and was one that was slid down inside the chimney. There is weather documentation of high winds in the are after the cleaning was done. In fact this is the same time the large power lines over I79 on rt 228 had blown over causing the rd to be shut down. This residence isn't far from there. As for responsiveness and punctuality, The customer flagged us down in his neighborhood and had us follow him to his house to perform the cleaning. Had the cap come off during the cleaning it would have startled if not come down on his daughter that was sunbathing just ouside the chimney.

We are very sorry to hear this. We have not received any calls from this customer stating there was an issue. We don't quite understand, if the product failed after a year why weren't we notified until 2 years after the fact and only finding out after a bad review was given here on Angies list? The product has a 10 year warranty and if there was a failure then it should have been made know so we could contact the maker for replacement of product. If an attempt was made during 2012 -2013 We were shut down while David batteled cancer.

However, after the second winter, the brick problem reoccured. I called David several times to come back for additional work. He did not return, or call, to follow up on his "workmanship". He appears to be a humble "chimneys are may life" expert. In reality, he is a shrewd salesman who apparently refuses to stand by his work. Let the buyer beware.
Description of Work: Some brick faces were breaking off our chimney; a moisture problem according to David of David's Chimney Service .He was quick to come out and give me a price. The work was completed about 2 months later. I paid almost $800. to have about ten bricks replaced and a sealer put on the chimney. Unfortunately, I did not have any other estimates,so the price is not something I can compare. The completed job was nice looking.

Our most sincere apologies to your situation. I'm sure we also informed you that it is possible for some bricks to still have issues and we may need to come back for further repairs should any more bricks continue to spaul. There is no charge to re apply the water proofing but there is an additional charge for replacing more bricks. David's chimney service had to close down from September of 2012 through August of 2013 until David was cleared from battling Large Difuse B cell Lymphoma stage 3 B. Please give us a call and we will do our best to rectify this situation. ( David is currently in remission)

The member was ver pleasent to deal with however his situation required the cooperation of his neighbor as they share a chimney in their type of housing.The quote was issued for the repair of the entire chimney with the bill to be shared by both homeowners. It was a very difficult situation and as was told to the member we could not do half of the chimny as it would most likely not solve the issue of water coming into his side of the home. Most of the damage was on the neighbors side of the chimney.We really wish we could have done more.

He returned my call and came out. We discussed the project. He mentioned putting a coating on the chimney. He said he would get back to me and let me know of some houses in the area with this feature. He called one night, left a message and said he wanted to meet with me again. I called him back, asked why he hadn't sent the bid, and stated I wanted to just do the brickwork and not the special coating. He never sent the bid.
Description of Work: I needed chimney repair.

If one chooses another company over us , we have no feelings of ill will in doing so.That is the choice of the homeowner. We are a company of only 2 people. When we show up to a home you get the homeownwers not someones crew. We try very hard to give each and every customer the utmost respect. We want to treat you the way we would like to be treated. Sometimes we are actually human and some things will slip through the cracks. If we inadverdently missed sending a quote then we truly apoligize for your inconvienience. We hope you were able to get your problem taken care of. It happens occasionally where a paper with information gets misplaced or even a phone message accidently gets erased. Human error. Sometimes it would be nice to have a reminder call for a customer, especially when the customer only has the contractor to think of.When it's in the hands of the contractor ,the contractor has several customers to think of at one time. A little team work on the part of the homeowner is greatly appreciated as well. Sometimes we just need a small reminder.

Excellent start! Downhill after that.
Description of Work: When I 1st contact David's Chimney(October 30, 2008)I spoke with a very professional, polite individual whom I was very happy to do business with. Contract was agreed upon. Project did not need completed for approximately 10 weeks so I felt I was leaving enough time for completion. When the time came to do the project, there was one problem after another. By mid January, when the project was not going to be done before Feb 3, I had to find another contractor to do the job. After numerous phone calls, my money was refunded and I found another contractor who did the job in less than 10 days.

THE PERSON CREATING THIS REPORT IS NOT THE HOME OWNER. SHE IS THE HOUSE KEEPER FOR THIS PERSON AND IS SOMEONE I WOULD BE VERY CAUTIOUS IN DOING WORK WITH. WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR 17 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH A CUSTOMER LIKE THIS. IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT WEATHER WOULD BE A FACTOR IN THE ABILITY TO COMPLETE THE WORK AS THIS JOB WAS ALSO CONTRACTED DURING OUR BUSY CHIMNEY CLEANING PERIOD. AFTER STARTING THE JOB IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE JOB WAS GOING TO BE MORE DIFFICULT AND WE HAD TO ORDER DIFFERENT PARTS THAT WOULD WORK WITH THE CHIMNEY. THE HOUSEKEEPER THOUGHT IT WAS TAKING TO LONG AND BEGAN THREATENING TO HIRE ANOTHER CONTRACTOR. WE WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE ANOTHER GOOD DAY OF WEATHER AND CAME TO THE HOUSE TO FINISH CUTTING OUT THE DAMPER AREA TO ALLOW THE LINER TO COME THROUGH. IN THE PROCESS OF ALMOST COMPLETION OUR SAW HAD QUIT WORKING THUS STOPPING THE WORK. WE KNEW IT WOULD BE SOMETIME BEFORE WE GOT OUR SAW BACK FROM REPAIR SO WE OFFERED TO ALLOW THE SUPPOSED OTHER CONTRACTOR SHE HAD THREATENED TO USE TO COME IN AND FINISH THE WORK. IT BECAME APPARENT THAT IT WAS AN IDOL THREAT AND THERE WAS NO OTHER CONTRACTOR. THE HOUSEKEEPER THEN STATED SHE WOULD HAVE TO START THE SEARCH PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN SO SHE WOULD LIKE US TO FINISH. SHE THEN ALSO STATED SHE WANTED US TO "RENT, STEAL OR BORROW ANOTHER SAW TO FINISH THE JOB" AND DEMANDED IT DONE IMMEDIATELY. SHE FOLLOWED THAT WITH FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND TWO OTHER COMPANY RATED FORUMS (WHERE WE HAVE PLENTY OF SATISFIED CUSTOMERS). ONCE SHE STARTED SLANDERING US THE DECISION WAS MADE TO REFUND THE $600 DEPOSIT SINCE HER CLAIM TO BBB STATED SHE DIDN'T THINK WE SHOULD BE PAID ANYMORE MONEY BECAUSE IT HAD TAKEN SO LONG. IT'S NO WONDER THE OTHER CONTRACTOR DIDN'T TAKE AS LONG CONSIDERING WE HAD ALREADY DONE A MAJORITY OF THE TIME CONSUMING PART OF THE JOB. ANYONE WHO HAS HAD TO CUT OUT A HEATALATOR SYSTEM KNOWS HOW LONG IT TAKES AND HOW MANY SAW BLADES YOU GO THROUGH. PLEASE BE ADVISED IF DOING ANY WORK FOR THIS PERSON UNDER EITHER NAME.

Dave answered my call very quickly. Though he completed the job in two sessions, both times he called a day ahead. He left a visual report of areas of the chimney/repair which was really helpful to me because I don't understand all the terms or the function of each part of the chimney.

They told us that they would take of some of the price if we took of some of the old bricks are self. They were friendly and I thought they where trustworthy.
