The work order was signed on May 2, 2012 and we were told work would commence on May 14, 2012. We paid $7,750 as an initial deposit. Not only did work start 6 weeks after the work order was signed (versus May 14) but we had no communication at all unless we prompted it as to what the status was. Work commenced and a progress payment of $2,000 was required with the completion of the half wall and window installation. We paid this on the day requested. We also requested a change order for outside stairs to be built and installed as well as 2 ceiling fans. This change order was a total of $1,200. We paid this amount when requested. Note - the ceiling fan installation was $150/fan even though both connections were pre-wired. The remaining work progressed and a request was made for a final payment of approximately $6,000. This was incorrect as the Owner had forgotten our initial payment was $7,750; not $4,000 as he had calculated. The revised amount requested was $2,250. This was also incorrect as the contract and payments to date netted $1,750. Upon inspection of the final result, the sliding glass door was not working properly, the sliding glass door screen was not the right size, the exterior corners were exposed with the blown insulation. Since the final payment was due, we requested the work be completed. The specific concern was that the quality and/or installation of the sliding glass door had defects and if this had to be redone, it would exceed the remaining balance due. It was our way to ensure everything was completed. The Contractor acknowledged these items needed to be done but requested to be paid regardless. I would not agree to this in order to protect our investment. The Contractor has a temper and is very impatient so if he calls and does not reach you within a short period of time, he will escalate his tone and messaging. Within 2-3 days of demanding payment, he left a voice mail at my office threatening to file a lien on the property and "...sieze any value in our home..." At this point I would not make final payment until all work was done and the Township CO had been issued. He had not even requested the final Township inspection; I asked him to do so. I would not release payment without the CO being delivered; we also requested all warranties for the windows and any other material provided. The first rainfall occurred and there was leaking along 3 of the 4 walls. I was told that "his helper" may have forgotten to seal these areas - "no big deal..." Fast forward - I paid the contract in full, had a Lien Waiver signed, had the documentation of the work done and payment in full signed and assumed this would be the end of a really bad Contractor chapter. Within an hour of signing everything, the Contractor indicated he had not been paid in full, my summary of the amounts due were incorrect. Two days later, I received a "revised" invoice for the exact dollar amount I had provided and paid in full. However, the Contractor indicated I still owed him money and if I did not pay - he would have his Lawyer contact me. He also indicated I was pretending to not know what he was referring to. Since his "revised" paperwork showed nothing was due, I was confused. He eventually discovered his error and agreed (a second time) we had indeed paid the contract in full. The Contractor may have good references for the quality of his work. We would rate the work a "C" overall. However, even if his work is "A+" you have to enter any agreement with him with a very detailed scope of work, keep all documentation, and have a clear agreement on when he will be paid and the conditions of that payment. We would never work with him again and in fact have asked he not contact us or use our property in any advertising. This is after being threatened with legal actions on more than one occasion and being told "we know what we are doing, don't play games with him". This would all be justified had we not performed to the agreement but we did and in a very prompt and consistent manner.

I would never recommend this company. He showed up late the first day and borrowed my tools and ladder. He told me that he used a plumber to install the dishwasher when in actuality he used his carpenter. As a result, a hose broke and my basement ceiling fell down. Since he used his insurance company for the claim, he wanted me to sign over the check to him and intended to pocket half the money using the other half to fix his mistake. I filed a police report on him when he threatened to come in and trash my kitchen . I also received some threatening emails asking for payment before the job was completed.
Description of Work: Remodeled 30 year old kitchen.
