We have an old 1800's 2.5 story brick semi-detached house in need of much plaster work. Once I got a hold of him, Merv was very responsive, recommended by a renovation contractor. He certainly knows plaster, drywall and old homes. Since I'm a DIY kinda-guy, I asked Merv both to do the big plaster repair spots and recommend how I might do the easy stuff myself. He eagerly obliged, coming once to assess and show me a few pointers and then twice later to work. He charged hourly. His first job was $200 after about a half-day of work. His second job was almost as much for just 2.5 hours after which I protested. He said it was also for "travel time"(and expense I assume since gas was expensive and his truck was big)but eventually lowered the price somewhat, though still not according to the hourly estimate he gave me. It gave me a sour taste in my mouth, but overall, I think I'd still have him back to help with plaster work. He REALLY knew his stuff and was very willing to help me save money on the job by showing my how to do it myself.
