They came out and quoted me to replace a patch in the ceiling. The guy who came out to look was the same guy who did the job. He took an hour longer than quoted which I was charged for and did still did not finish the job. He also asked if I could pay him cash for the supplies that he had to get. I paid over $200.00 for a drywall patch, I asked for it to be ready to paint. He said he could stay longer and finish and it would cost me more. It is not ready to paint I will have to pay another contractor to fix this job. Waste of money and time!

FANTASTIC! I wanted a ceiling fan installed in our bedroom. This would have to be a new installation. After Jim carefully inspected the walls and outlets for wiring, he reported it would not be possible without many hours of work, at least 3 large holes in ceiling which would then have to be spackled and then entire ceiling painted. He suggested we get a stand fan which would give us what we needed in terms of air circulation and the ceiling fan would not have been more quiet than the stand fan. I've worked with other electricians and handymen before Jim, and I absolutely know that no one would have been so up front and honest about the work. He could have said "no problem" as many others have done, and I would have been left with a huge bill and a big mess with the ceiling and wall being torn up. I also needed the bathroom sink faucet to be re-installed. The stopper was not working and the drain was leaking under the sink. A few days before today, I had a plumber here to install this new faucet and after he left, the stopper was not working at all and I had a leak under the sink! And he charged me what came out to be $200 an hour!!! And refused to take responsibility for what was not working right!! In addition, Jim was very accommodating when I asked him to remove child safety clips from 6 cabinets. They were not in original work order. Only when I asked did he give me advice about the exterior of the house. His advice was invaluable. Jim was clean, professional, friendly, gave fantastic advice, arrived on time, and the HandySeniors office people were thorough when I called to ask for someone to do what I needed. I called one day and Jim came the next day....terrific. I would re-hire in a heartbeat and from now on will use HandySeniors for everything they do. USE HANDYSENIORS! I had a lot of expensive work done here before I knew about HandySeniors and I wish I had known about what HandySeniors do, which is just about everything....see their website....all they do and all their charges are all up front for you to understand.

They painted a bedroom and the work is not complete, not a professional job at all. The walls were white, I had them paint a tangerine color and can still see white through the new color. The woodwork and doors were not painted at all. I am going to have to pay someone else to come out to re-paint the bedroom. I am very disappointed. I let them know I am not happy with the job. What a waste of money.

Response from HandySeniors LLC
This customer engaged HandySeniors to install a new flapper in a toilet, assemble a microwave cabinet, rearrange items in her basement and to remove a small area of wall paper on ONE wall and paint the four walls of the room. Unfortunately, we did not visit the customer’s home prior to accepting the painting job to review what she wanted. As a matter of practice, we look at all painting jobs prior to estimating or accepting jobs, i.e., we do not estimate or accept painting jobs without physically looking at them first. The impression we had over the phone was that she wanted wallpaper removed from one small wall in the room and to paint the wall where the wallpaper was removed. As stated, we accepted the job without visiting her home. At that time we did not understand she wanted all four walls painted. The toilet repair, microwave cabinet, and the articles in the basement were completed to customer’s satisfaction. When the HandySenior arrived to do the work, the customer told him she did not want him to remove all of the wallpaper on the wall. The customer instructed the HandySenior to remove just the wallpaper that was peeling and the areas she had attempted to remove wallpaper herself prior to his arrival. She asked him to apply compound to make a “smoother” transition between the removed areas of wallpaper and the wallpaper left on the wall. She told the HandySenior to do the best that he could and acknowledged that it would not be “perfect” so he proceeded according to her wishes. At this point I would like to state that if the customer had told us on the phone prior to the start of the painting job that the entire room was painted wallpaper, walls and ceiling, we would have told her on the phone we won’t paint wallpaper as matter of policy and would have declined the painting part of the job. The HandySenior was unaware of that policy and repaired and painted according to her instructions. The customer provided the paint. After the first coat dried did it was apparent that a second coat was required for proper coverage because the color of the walls was being changed from white to tangerine. The HandySenior on the job pointed out to the customer that a second coat was needed for proper coverage and offered to apply the second coat which she declined and said she would do it herself. Several days after the completion of the job, the customer called the office to tell us what a good job the HandySenior did, except she was not happy with the painting because there were areas of white bleeding through the new paint and we needed to “look at the job.” Painting the trim and doors were not a part of the work we were engaged to perform. She did not request HandySeniors to do so over the phone and she never asked the HandySenior that did the work to paint either the trim or the door. The first we heard that painting the trim and doors was part of her expectation was in the content of her complaint on Angie's List. The apparent reason the customer did not want the HandySenior to put on the second coat was because she afraid the cost would exceed what she wanted to pay for all of the jobs done. Her complaints to HandySeniors were directed at trying to get us to come back and “fix the problem” for free (i.e., apply a second coat and, apparently from her complaint here, paint the trim for free). We regret this customer chose to take the position she has as stated in her complaint. We are sorry she is not happy with the job she requested and was fulfilled according to her instructions for less than the amount of money she wanted to pay. At HandySeniors we strive to make sure our customers are satisfied with the work done for them and typically go up and beyond expectations. We spent a great deal of time on the phone with this customer and visited her home to assess the job to find out how to make it right. We offered to put a second coat of paint on the wall (which the HandySenior offered at the time the job was done), but she would be charged the normal rate. She refused. The next time we heard from her was in the form of a complaint on Angie’s List. We appreciate that the customer paid her bill in full. However, we have “closed the books” on this matter and will not entertain further business with this person.

My husband had been rushed to the hospital with a serious infection. I came home the next day to find our mailbox and post on the ground. The wood had rotted, and it had fallen over. I had to return to the hospital as soon as possible and I just wanted to find someone who could just take care of the mailbox. I found Handy Seniors on Angie's list, I called late at night, left a message and the next morning I received a call from one of the partners. I explained the situation and after a few questions and a couple of details, the work was scheduled and I didn't have to worry about any of the details or even need to be at home when the work was scheduled. As promised, the Handy Senior assigned to my job showed up on time, he was professional, completely prepared for the job, had all of the tools, including the new post. He was pleasant, efficient, and did a fantastic job. I could not have been more pleased.
Description of Work: Removed old mailbox post and concrete foundation, purchased (at my request) a new post, installed the new post in concrete, replaced the mailbox and house numbers.

They were wanting to rewire my entire house in order for it to be "To Code." They were also not curtious to my instructions about knocking on my door or ringing my doorbell. My dogs had just had surgery and I requested that they call me right before they got here so I could let them in without disturbing my dogs. I asked repeatedly for them not to knock or ring the bell and they totally ignored that. They were also smoking on my front porch, which I did not appreciate. They would also send someone different everyday that they came out. I had contacted a different contractor and was told I did not have any safety issues with my electrical wiring. This company did not seem very professional to me. I ended up firing them before they finished.
Description of Work: I called them out to put in new drywall and paint in my basement where I had a flood. I also wanted them to do some electrical work for me.

Angie’s List members, please note that this customer for some reason has decided to submit this review more than 2 years after the work was done (work was done April 16, 2012 and April 17, 2012). It seems it is the only review she has written as of the date of this writing. The customer might want to check some of her facts. 1) The customer called HandySeniors to estimate three jobs, one of which was to re-install basement drywall and paint the basement. During the estimate we spent two and a half hours walking around her house taking pictures of a variety of jobs she wanted done and jobs that she was dissatisfied with that her “handyman” had done and wanted HandySeniors to fix (we still have the 125 pictures taken that day, all of the email correspondences, estimates, project plans, and database notes). 2) HandySeniors does not rewire houses, so we would not even propose to rewire her house. However, we did find two electrical code violations with potentially dangerous conditions, a circuit breaker installed on a floor joist in a drop ceiling in the basement and exposed live Romex wire that her electrician had run through a wall to the exterior of the house, then along the deck, unprotected and unsecured, and then ran it back into the house. We informed her of those code violations and the potential danger to damaging the wire which could turn into a fire hazard. During the course of the job, one of the HandySeniors happened to be a Licensed Master Electrician (and is still currently). She wanted his opinion on a number of electrical issues so when he was working on her basement drywall, she asked him to walk around her house with her to assess various electrical issues and conditions. He spent 45 minutes with her. We charged her for his time. She did not think she should be charged since he wasn’t “working” even though she interrupted his current job to ask him his professional opinions. She did, however, pay her invoice in full though. 3) She did ask us not to knock on her door due to her dogs’ having surgical stitches. We actually had a great deal of trouble coming up with a convenient date and time for her because she was taking her dogs to Maryland for stem cell treatment and other medical appointments. I asked her if she wanted us to wait until the dogs’ stitches healed before starting work. She did not. As a side note, due to the clutter that was in her basement, the drywall had to be cut in her driveway (we explained that to her before we started) and had to be carried through her laundry room and dog “shower” room to the basement door. I was concerned that the dogs might be upset from the commotion, but she insisted they would be fine. We were there for two days (though I was there multiple times for estimates and to introduce the HandySeniors). All of the HandySeniors were 10 to 15 minutes early for their appointments, so none were ever late. There were two HandySeniors on the first day, and a different HandySenior on the second day (i.e., a total of three). I had developed a formal “project plan” with dates, times, and personnel which she had been emailed a copy of. The HandySenior who was scheduled for the second day has very strong drywall finishing and painting skills which was what was required for the work left to be done. On the first day, the one of the HandySenior knocked on the door. He had forgotten and we apologized for that. On the second day, I called her cell phone and home phone (HandySeniors has a policy that the customer is to be called at least one-half hour prior to arriving at a customer’s premise) and left messages on both phones. I did not think it that peculiar that she did not answer her phones because she had scheduled appointments with me before, not been home, and I had to wait for her to get home. When I arrived, the HandySenior was parked in front of her house and had been waiting for me for about 15 minutes. He had called her, too, with no success. He did not want to knock on her door because of her instructions. I called her again with no success. Finally, I decided we needed to knock on the door before we left just in case she was home and before I left a note that we had been there as scheduled but had left. Unfortunately, I had been smoking in my truck when I arrived (I was the only person in the entire HandySenior organization and subcontractors that smoked at that time) and inadvertently was still smoking when I knocked on the door on her front porch and she answered the door (which, again, we thought she wasn’t home but we were just making sure). She informed us again that she didn’t want us to knock on the door to which both the Fred and I showed her our cell phones with her phone numbers on them. I told her I left a message on her answering machine. She said she “didn’t get it” and that her phone had been “giving her problems.” She claimed that she did not expect anyone to show up that day. I had told her previously that Jim and Tom would be there Monday and Fred would be there Tuesday. Jim and Tom told her they would not be there Tuesday and apparently she got confused with it meaning “no one” would be there Tuesday. She was okay with Fred working that day. Insofar as being “fired,” she simply kept delaying the additional work (finishing sanding a drywall post, then the painting the room), said she wanted to wait, and then argued about her invoice, some of the billable hours, and discounts, but she never complained about the quality of the work done. She did, however, want to make sure she paid for the work done up to that date, which we thoroughly appreciated. She was supposed to contact us and told me she would be calling in a few weeks, but she did not. The basement walls were left pretty much paint ready. I made a guess that she thought we were "too expensive" and she went back to “her handyman” who was cheaper even though she verbally complained about the quality of his workmanship. I do not want to elaborate on the number of issues we had with this customer. Suffice it to say that we were not disappointed that she did not call us to do any more work for her after she paid her bill.

I found Handy Seniors on Angie's List and was so glad I called. I had two different workers do work in our home. One was a handyman, who did a day of installation of various fixtures (plumbing/light), hung art, put together some furniture, etc. The other gentleman did painting. They were punctual, gave me honest estimates, and did great work. They were good for conversation and made me smile, almost like my dad was there with me. :) Their work isn't the fastest, but it was thorough, and I LOVE the concept of this company. How fantastic to keep handy seniors working. Highly recommend!

I love them and I have had them twice now. It is the same man who came out both times. They were easy to book them. The man was on time, he was knowledgeable. First time I had him to make the space large enough to accommodate a double oven and he had to put certain support systems and he was just wonderful. He did that and it was the same man who came out put in the light fixtures and one of them was a problem because the fixture itself stopped working so I thought I may be had a huge electrical problem and what it turned out was that I had put a too big a bolt and it just burned it out the fixture so it turned out not to be too big an issue. But he was great and he just explained what happened, he did not try to con me or anything like that. He is a retired engineer and he is just awesome.

The gentleman assigned to repair the basement stairway did a wonderful job. He replaced some of the foundation, built new steps and overall performed the job much to our satisfaction. He was efficient, thorough, friendly, and cleaned up after himself so that we didn't have any mess to worry about. He was also helpful in repairing some windows. I definitely recommend this company to anyone needing professional handyman services! The only issue I had was in reaching someone at the office in order to place a new job request. My phone message was not returned and no one ever responded to emails. But if you can reach them, they are definitely worth it! UPDATE: I spoke with Brian regarding the low mark I gave on responsiveness. He agreed and apologized that my second call for service didn't get returned (a phone message glitch, I believe, which can happen). But I realized that I gave him a low mark in responsiveness for the first job and that was my error. They were very responsive to my first request and performed the work well. I would not hesitate to use them again!

Handyseniors apologizes for any unresponsiveness as we try to be as responsive as possible. We appreciate the high marks in all the other areas and when we see less than high marks in any area we try to address it immediately. We will be contacting the customer in order to determine how we seem to miss the mark with her. We are a little confused at the low marks regarding responsiveness as the customer gave us straight “A's” on our Voice of Customer card. According to our database and billing records, the customer contacted us on July 2, 2013, through Angie’s List. We replied to her on July 2, through Angie’s List. The job was scheduled on July 3, 2013, and completed on July 5, 2013. She was invoiced on July 11, 2013, in the amount of $334.50 of which was paid within a week (which we always appreciate!). We will be investigating further to find out what happened here and communicating with the customer as well as back to Angie’s List. Again, we apologize for any inconveniences as we truly try to return all phone calls within a business day or less and all emails in no more than a business day as a matter of policy. Sincerely, Brian Clark President HandySeniors
I'm an Interior Designer and needed a Handyman since my contractor was unavailable. Harry called a few days before to confirm and verify my client's location and services. Arrived 20 minutes prior but did not charge for that time. I needed assistance with hanging drapery hardware, 14 mirrors all over the house, picture frames, blinds and moving furniture. He did an excellent job and consulted with me prior to finalizing any of the projects. Very friendly and knowledgeable. I will recommend and definitely use their services again.

Jim arrived on time and went right to work. I had ordered a lighted medicine cabinet with LED lights from the UK and it required a 110 volt electrical line to work. Jim was very kind and easygoing. He knew exactly how to approach the situation and worked neatly and quickly. At one point he needed a hand holding the cabinet while he lined up the mounting holes. We were glad to help. Another company I called about an estimate told me it would probably be a two man job and more labor costs because the cabinet might be heavy. Jim cleaned up the work area and we are now enjoying the finished product. We will definitely use Handy Seniors in the future.
Description of Work: The work was to install a lighted medicine cabinet in the upstairs bathroom. It was necessary to run a 110 volt electrical line from an existing outlet.
