My husband and I would certainly recommend Electric Man. We have been extremely impressed by the electricians Ruth Sallowski and her assistant Dave. Ruth was very knowledgeable and thorough. Her professionalism and attention to detail were outstanding. Both Ruth and Dave are a credit to Electric Man, a company which, as proven to us, is a fine and trustworthy electrical service.

I asked him to leave because I doubted that he would be able fix the situation.
Description of Work: The fee was for him to come to the door. the service person did not examine my high intensity fixture that I thought could have had a loose wire and had a papers and a written estimate of the cost totaling almost $200.00) He wanted me to sign that I would pay this before any work was done. I would never recommend this company.

These guys have it down to a science. They are well versed in their trade. Overall it went very well. Originally it was scheduled to take place over two full days. The front office called the day before and indicated that Ron and Dave would not be there at 8 AM, but at 1:00 PM. Sure enough the guys were prompt and worked commenced. The next day work started at 8 AM. Around 1:00 PM it became apprent that the guys would not finish up prior to 5 PM. Ron asked if they could stay to fininsh the job, I agreed and they did. These guys basically skipped their meals and blew off their Friday night to get it done. Couldn't be happier with the crew. OK - checked the outside work for the cable of of the FIOS, looks a little sloppy. Don't know if I will have future problem. Appears there is a coaxial contact exposed to the elements. Need to investigate further. Update: Contacted by Chris, agreed to have Ron come back to rectify my issues. Ron arrived when scheduled, was professional and all is well. They will get my repeat business.
Description of Work: 1. Switched out bathroom exhaust fan with new one I supplied. 2. Set up two flatscreen TV's on the wall , which included the installation of a new HDMI connection and inwall cable connection(I supplied the brackets). 3. Provided two new in-wall outlets . 4. Disconected two electric base- board heaters. Ron and Dave were punctual, courteous and hardworking. I told Ron that I received 2 other bids, and some things were much less and some things were a little less. On the whole I felt the price I paid was about $200 (10%) more then it should had been. The thing I liked is that Ron spent the extra hour with me when he was shown the work and wrote up my bid right away. The fact is, I may have gone with a different "A" rated electrician if he had sent a timely bid ( i got it about 10 days later). Electricman presented me the bid by the person who was going to perform the work and was able to schedule the job while he was still at my home. The work performed was well done. I would welcome Ron or Dave back into my home again when I need eletcrical work performed again

It went great. Ruth was very nice and very knowledgable. She offered advice and thoroughly explained everything. She gave me options too. She performed all the tasks quickly and easily. I felt she went above and beyond in answering my questions and making sure I got the most for my money. I would definitely request to have her again if I needed more electrical work in the future.
Description of Work: I purchased the big deal: $99 for $200 worth of electrical work. Ruth replaced the outlet in the basement that was attached to a switch and made it a GFI. She also cut the power to the outside receptors that we needed and changed one 2 prong outlet with a 3 prong.

I love this company. We recently moved into a new home and we hired the electric man to help us remove dated fixtures and add new recessed lights throughout. We also updated some exterior fixtures and outlets. Jed also helped us to wire the cable into jacks for our tvs. Jed and his team were prompt, professional and very polite. They were very efficient and pleasant to be around. We love the look of the new lights and are very pleased with their service. I will definitely use them again!

This was an emergency. They responded the day after we called and fixed the problem the day after that. I really can't comment on the price because we did not get any other estimate. They were very good about calling and updating us on their schedule; in fact, they called to see if they could come earlier than expected.

After finding The Electric Man as a top-rated electrician on Angie's List, I chanced a call and was amazed that they had time on their schedule to fit me in - and th ey showed up in less than 30 minutes! On what was the hottest day of the summer to date, I expected them to tell me they were too busy to help me on that day, but sure enough, Rob showed up immediately. He was well dressed, clearly explained everything about their company, policies and services, then proceeded to provide quotes ( NOT estimates) on the work I wanted them to accomplish. Their prices were extremely reasonable and so I had him begin work immediately. His work was outstanding, fast and he kept the work areas spotless, ensuring that we could get around him to continue working on other projects. I would recommend this company to anyone without hesitation. Please treat yourself to this example of best-practices!
Description of Work: Move an outdoor GFIC outlet to make way for a new stone wall - requested by stone mason while he was working). Also had Electric Man quote on installation of two outdoor lights (a very difficult installation that previous electricians and carpenters really didn't want to do). While he was here, he offered me their special on whole house electrical inspection and recommended repairs/upgrades. The inspection was part of their special offer to make me a "preferred customer" which would guarantee my first priority service in case of emergency.

The overall experience was very good as the price I was quoted was comparable with other companies I'd spoke to about the work. The electrician was on-time and completed the work the same day and Chip followed-up with me afterwards to make sure the work was completed. An independent inspector came out a week later and he found no issues and Chip provided me with copies of the permits and inspection information in case we needed in the future. After everything was completed I did have a billing question which Chip responded to promptly. Overall I was very satisified with the workmanship and customer service of the company.
Description of Work: I had requested an estimate in 2008 for the replacement of the main circuit breaker in my house. We also chose to have a surge protector installed with the panel. The electrician came out and provided the estimate and answered all my questions but at that time I decided to complete other home repairs. I reached out to Chip earlier this year to get an updated estimate to do the same work and I was pleased to see that the costs had not changed significantly in that time. We had the work completed in Apr-2011.

The phone call to the service was answered promptly and professionally. I indicated I was interested in an estimate for the oven installation, and was told they would need to have a technician at my house to provide, and that there was a minimum $19.95 charge, and further that they would be able to have someone at the house that same day. Based on this information, I scheduled the appointment. The technician arrived in time and quickly looked at the new oven (I had unpacked from shipping material) and the electric panel. He then handed me a large brochure on Electric Man company and explained that they work from a fixed price list. He produced the price list and spent over 20 minutes writing up a quote for the requested service - referencing the price book throughout. He then presented me with an estimate for the work requested, as well as an estimate to install a panel based surge protector. The price for the work requested was $695, and the installation of the surge protector an additional $300. And further that he could do the work immediately. My initial reaction was that the price was very high for what should be an hours effort - and I shared this view with the technician. He fell back on the price book as defense, indicating the prices were based on experience and supplies, etc. We had a short debate about the logic of this approach - given he was in my house and could specifically assess the work to be done - perhaps the price book allowed for all sorts of potential situations that were not relevant in this instance. He also pushed hard for the surge protector installation along the way... In any event, he would not move on price, and after considering the benefit of having the job done immediately vs. paying what I felt was at least 3 times an appropriate cost - I indicated I would look elsewhere, paid the $19.95 estimate fee, and he was on his way... I returned to Angie's List to find some alternatives and left some messages - one of which was returned later in the day and received a phone estimate of $150 - $200 for the work - which I scheduled for early the next week. Overall, I was not pleased with the approach and business tactics of Electric Man. Given they work from a fixed price book, they should have been able to easily provide an estimate over the phone without requiring a service call and $20 charge. This approach seems in hindsight to be a bit of a scam - get them into the house and you already committed to $20 and without the option to do any comparison shopping. I also did not like the fact that he included work I had not requested in the estimate - the surge protector. I would not have minded him mentioning the opportunity and asking if I was interested - but the presumption to include on the estimate I felt was high pressure and inappropriate. Overall, I am very happy with my decision to go elsewhere. The work was completed within a few days by another contractor at a cost of $200 - even with the $20 waste on the Electric Man estimate charge, I saved over 70% vs. Electric Man's fixed price.
Description of Work: Used Angie's List to identify an electrician to install a new in-wall oven - identified Electric Man from this research and secure an estimate and schedule to complete.

Jed was both the person who quoted me the job and did the work. Overall the work and experience was excellent!. I bid the job out to 4 different companies, while the Electric Man was not the least expensive, Jed did such a thorough inspection of my existing service pannel and the area requiring work while estimating the cost (and explained everything in terms I understood) that I felt I would get the best service for the money from him. I think I was right. The job took about 6 hours, and the results were beautiful. Best of all, for no charge he "fixed" some sloppy wiring he noticed in my electrical pannel, and repair an outside light fixture that stopped working by completely dis-assembling it, cleaning it out, rewiring it and putting it all back together. Now it works! Other's that quoted the job told me they would look at that light, but fixing such things wasn't normal and that I should just replace it. Jed did do some up and cross selling, and told me about the latest products on the market, like whole house surge protectors and the like, and promoted other service providers affiliated with his company, but that's OK - I found the pitch to be useful information. Lastly, I did buy a preferred service contract, which actually lowered the total cost of the job since it was expensive enough. For that, Jed did a whole house inspection as well, noted what was not up to current code (seems as if every outlet these days needs to be GFI...) and recommended (with a $ quote too) what should be updated. You rock, Electric Man! Ask for Jed.

The two electricians arrived on-time to the minute and were extremely professional and pleasant. They put two layers of booties on over their workboots to ensure that they did not track anything into the house. Before they did any work, they explained their fees clearly and made sure that I agreed with the pricing before performing any work. The lead electrician also took the time to tell me about his qualifications and background. I explained that we had some problems with ceiling light fixtures. They removed the faulty fixtures, diagnosed the problem and made sure that the wiring in the home itself was safe and undamaged. Before they left, they let me know the exact price of replacing the fixtures and left me an easy-to-read written quote. I could not have been happier with their service!

I ask Chip for every thing from the line feed into the the barn to wiring in the house's attic. He was very patient and polite. Had great ideas and suggestions. He was obviously fully engaged with the process. I subsequently broke the job down to a smaller, but still enormous project. He sent me a very complettive bid for the region. He's bid was timely, and detailed. We didn't use him for personal reasons. I would absolutetely call on him again, and recommend him to friend.
Description of Work: I got a free estimate from Chip. I wasn't the easiest customer. We have recently purchased an old farmhouse with out buildings that need all new service. New breaker boxes, trenching from one barn to a second , to the house, where all new wiring and breaker boxes were needed. We also asked for a generator to support the electrical service.

Great experience with Electric Man. I called for repair of 2 wall outlets. I was delighted with the service rep who went beyond my request to repair the 2 outlets I knew were no longer working, to check all the outlets in every room - including removing wall panels to check behind the walls - to discover another that also needed replacement. Although it was still working the wires behind the wall had detioriated near the connection posing a potential hazard. It happened to be an outlet we used every day so I was very happy that this was discovered before an electrical fire might have occurred. I also asked that a kitchen light be checked - 2 of 3 bulbs weren't working in spite of being replaced with new ones. It was a simple fix and now all 3 fixtures are working again. The technician was friendly and very courteous.

Ruth was extremely professional, on time and her work was excellent. The only negative with the experience was the price. The structure is that they come to the house, review the work to be done and then provide a real time estimate for the work to be completed. If you agree, they begin work immediately. Price is deteremined by a per project price quoted from their book. If I had done my homework in advance I would have known that the price quoted was excessive, but candidly I was anxious to get the work done. The job had to be done over two days and I ended up cancelling the second part of the work because of the price.

From start to finish Ruth and her assistant were terrific. They coordinated their work with the plumber and contractor so there would be no delays. They worked all day for two days and completed the demo and rough in, and some other odds and ends that we requested. One of the things that we loved about Ruth was her attention to detail. She noticed that some of our switches were not GFI protected. We had her bring those up to code. She also noticed that the main ground for the house had not been done properly. She corrected that. Once the contractor was finished they returned and completed the work. We found Ruth and everyone we have used from Electric Man to always be professional, competent, knowledgeable, punctual, neat.
Description of Work: Complete demo and rewiring for master bath including wiring for hot tub, steam shower, and new lights, heat, vents. Corrected house wiring that had been done wrong by the house builder. Primary ground for the house was corrected. Electrical wiring in the basement for a sump pump. Installed GFI where they should have existed before. Installed cable line in family room.

I'm writing this review about 5 weeks after completion of the work. The tub apears to be working fine, so the ulitmate job of installing the power appears to have been successful. But many other aspects of the job were pretty bad, hence my low scores. Although they did finally get the job done before the patio installers showed-up, their responsiveness and puncuality was really lacking. Since they needed access to the house, I had to stay home while they worked - and that turned out to be a long time. Once they arrived, they had to go back to the shop several times to get more, or the correct, materials. Overall the project took much longer than expected. In fact, at one point, someone else from Electric Man came to my door, looking totally annoyed and asked the other guy what was taking so long. She came in, finished the job and left in a huff. But even her work was shoddy - she breaker she used to connect the power in the main box was found to be incorrectly labeled. They promised to come back Friday to complete the job and I waited, and waited. Then at 2:30 they said he'd be there by 4:00. Then when I call back later to see were he was, they said he wouldn't be coming that day and could they schedule sometime next week because they were busy! I pressed them that the job needed to be completed and they sent him out the next day to make the final hook-ups. That took all day! In fact, I ended up helping him and drilling the hole to run the cable in the tub. As for quality, like I said the breaker was mislabeled, the caulk seal around the box where it exits the house is already cracking a separating, the trench is not at the depth they promised and they failed to run the 110 line along with the 220 line. I wanted a separate line to hook up lights and a fan, so the 220 line would be dedicated to the tub. They said they forgot and didn't have enough cable on the truck and if I wanted that line, the job would be delayed. That delay would have caused me to miss my installation window with the patio pavers and put off delivery of the tub. Regarding the trenching, they said the soil was too rocky for their trencher and decided to bury the cable at a shallower depth. Turns out one of the patio installers (see my review of CKC Landscaping - they did great work) later dug the trench out by hand with a shovel, without complaining about rocks. And lastly, I never heard back from them regarding the permit and filing fee work they agreed to do in the job contract. I got a call last week from my township warning me that I failed to get a permit. Turns out Electric Man had called my township and found out that the electrical permit was part of the hot tub permit, so Electric Man decided not to file the permit, leaving it to me to file the hot tub permit which would cover their work - and they never told me! So, I get blindsided by my township code enforcement office and have to spend another work day taking care of that. Bad experience.
Description of Work: The installed the power supply for our new hot tub. The job involved running the power line underground about 80 feet around the house and to the tub site. They installed the GFCI power box and then hooked up the tub after it was delivered.

I was very pleased with all the people and the service I received from Electric Man. Chip came out and gave me the original estimate and offered to explain things in detail or answer any questions I might have. My overall impression was that he would make sure the job was done the right way and that he was happy to communicate with me the homeowner. I was at home for the bulk of the work so I spent a lot of time with the guys who did the rewiring Steve, Shawn and sometimes Bob. They were all friendly, courteous, and good communicators. I felt comfortable both being in the house with them or leaving them alone while I ran arrands. Steve will let you know how the job is going around lunch time and at days end. They try their best not to leave any rooms without power after finishing for the day, but if some unforeseen problem comes up they will run extension cords so you can plug in what you need. They also clean up any messes, say made from having to cut holes into 80 year old plaster ceilings, before they finish that day. Chip visits the site frequently to make sure they have all the materials they need and that they have updated punch lists for the work that needs to be done. He also always asked me if I had any questions or concerns about how the job was going. I know my house frustrated them often with it's irregularity's. The attic space was deep enough to fish wires on the front end but too shallow on the back end. Not all the walls were the same depth so they needed shallow and regular electrical boxes. The first floor has ceiling joists that run both in both directions. The enclosed porch was newer construction but the electric had been piggy backed off the second floor knob and tube circuit. Through all this they were professional and let me know what needed to be done to get around those problems. If I need any other electrical service in the future I'll be happy to call Electric Man again.
Description of Work: House is an 80 year old twin. Replacement of original knob and tube wiring in the entire second floor, all first floor ceiling fixtures, all outlets and switches in the living room, rewired line to enclosed porch and parts of the basement not yet converted. All rooms on second floor had to be brought up to current electrical code. Dedicated lines were added to our master bedroom for air conditioning and to our living room for the electronics. The house's original 100 amp panel was replaced with 200 amp service with serge protector and electrical meter was moved from the basement to the outside. A programmable thermostat was added. I also had them add some additional outlets to my kitchen and to the basement, put in a 3 way switch for the upstairs hall light and fix some bad wiring in the bathroom.

This is my first experience with Angie's list! I have a small electrical repair problem, but one that I think requires a professional. I don't mess with electricity! Electric Man was the highest posted provider. I called Electric Man on Friday November 27. They advised that "all of their technicians" were busy that day and the next day, Saturday. The first appointment they could make was Monday the 30th at noon. We made the appointment. I advised the rep answering the call that I would have to stay home from work in order to meet the technician, but I was willing to do so. At 11 am on Monday, the rep called to say that the technician had "twisted his ankle at home" and would not be able to meet the appointment that was scheduled for 1 hour later! AND, they would not be able to reschedule for a week, again at noon on Monday December 7! I declined and I am now looking for someone else to do the work. They don't have anyone else who can cover for the injured "technician?" If he was injured at home, why didn't they call me first thing in the morning so I didn't have to miss a day of work? Bogus!
Description of Work: Small electrical repair. Circuit breaker will not reset.

Response from Electric Man LLC
This member's rendition of the event is correct. His call was placed on Friday the 27th and was scheduled for Monday the 30th as all of our technicians were busy with previously scheduled calls. The technician assigned to the member twisted his ankle on the way to the van on the morning of the appointment. The technician iced his ankle down in attempt to go back to work later in the day after rescheduling his the morning appointment. Unfortunately as of 11 AM that morning the technician was still not able to get his boot back on and the sprain required a doctor's visit and three days of rest. At 11 AM our dispatcher reviewed the schedule. Our work force was out at other customer calls in the middle of jobs which we will not interrupt once begun. At this time the member was contacted and given the option to reschedule the call or cancel outright. It is very unfortunate we were not able to serve the member in a manner he deserved. Our intention was to provide service as promised and our thinking was this would be possible given what seemed, at first blush, a fairly minor injury. Perhaps in retrospect we should have contacted the member in the morning to alert him of this possibility. We will review our procedures to see how to prevent a similar mishap in the future. I apologize to the member for his inconvenience and would like to thank him for his comments.

I called on Monday, May 18th but due to my schedule we couldn't coordinate until Friday, May 22nd. Jed showed up on time and immediately put protective booties over his shoes so he wouldn't track dirt in (I love that!). He looked at the situation and brought all the necessary materials to get straight to work. He placed tarps all around and cleaned up when he was finished. I am thrilled with the results! No patching of the ceiling was necessary (he warned me that, depending on what he found above the ceiling, he may need to make small holes). The recessed light matches the others exactly - it looks like it came with the house! I didn't need to sweep, paint or anything! It couldn't have turned out better. I am very picky so that's a high compliment (believe me)! :-)
Description of Work: I wanted a 4th recessed light installed in my kitchen to match the existing 3 that came with the house.
