Carney's rep showed up to look at our 7 year old water heater which was not keeping water hot for more than a 5 minute shower, which Carney installed in our home. We had purchased an extended warranty from them, and was told by their rep it covered "parts and labor". He was supposed to show between 9a-noon. He did not show up until nearly 3pm, and only after two calls to the office. Things went downhill from there. After about an hour, he presented us with a bill for $700 to replace a dip tube an anode rod, saying this was what he needed to "fix" our water heater (a $200 repair at most). When inquired about the $190 warranty he told us it was "parts only". I would not purchase a "parts only" warranty for a water heater. Besides the tank going, I know most water heater parts would be fairly inexpensive. I even showed the plumber our invoice, which has written on it "10-year warranty - $190". After politely asking him to leave, we contacted corporate and got a call back the next day. They explained the original person who worked on our water heater no longer worked at the company, but was fired for doing "things like this in the past". They offered to cut the bill roughly $300 (not even half), and apologized for the person who was originally dishonest. We found a plumber who replaced our water heater with the exact same one for slightly more than the original $700 estimate. Carney has lost both our business and our respect. Buyer beware.

Response from Carney Plumbing Heating & Cooling
We are extremely disappointed that Mr. [Member Name Removed] was dissatisfied with our service, we will always be the first to blame ourselves for a bad experience. That being said it seems as though there were a series of miscommunications that occurred here. We did apologize for our technician being late and multiple calls were made to keep the customer informed of this. We do give a window of service and we do our very best to keep that time frame but unfortunately the nature of our business can dictate this at times. In regards to the warranty, what was purchased was a manufacturer warranty which takes the existing 6 year tank and parts warranty to 10 years. The warranty information that was provided clearly indicates this and there is nothing on our original invoice that states our labor would also be covered for 10 years. We provide a 2 year labor warranty on water heaters and we currently do not offer any extended labor warranties. As far as the technician in question, he was never let go for dishonesty or anything of the sort, he just simply doesn't work here anymore. The apology offered was not at all for dishonesty but rather for any lack of communication between the former employee and Mr. [Member Name Removed]. This was clearly expressed on a phone call and I am completely baffled by his interpretation. Lastly, the price given was to drain down and thoroughly flush out the tank, replace the defective parts and to do a full diagnostic on the remaining parts such as the elements and thermostats. Any additional parts would have been replaced at no additional charge at the new lower price that was given. Perhaps our technician failed to communicate this properly and that's why Mr. [Member Name Removed] thought the price was too high. Please understand that we felt like we made every attempt to satisfy this customer including discounting the job tremendously for any miscommunication that may have occurred previously. We sincerely value each and every relationship that we have with our customers and we hope that Mr. [Member Name Removed] will give us chance to earn his business back at some point in the future.

We do our very best to provide the highest level of service at a fair price. Upon having a phone conversation with this customer, I am disappointed to say that she failed to see this value at the time of her service call. All of our pricing is presented before any work begins and although she may not have been pleased with this aspect I am happy to see that we scored higher in other areas, perhaps some of this value was realized after all. We appreciate the feedback regardless, we are always striving to better serve our customers!

They are always punctual, quite clean, and professional. On Friday of memorial day weekend, we had a blockage in our pipes that backed up the kitchen sink and bathrooms. They came right out and got it squared away. They did not charge us extra even though they sent a second plumber and it took about five hours for the two of them to get the pipes open.

Work was completed in less time that initially estimated. The only issue was that we were not told how to flush trapped air in the water lines. When they replaced the hot water heater 8 years ago this was done for us. Also, there was an additional cost (approx. $200) to what was agreed to in the contract.

They have done a very good job for me. They have done repairs, they installed a whole house generator and they maintain it, they have put in a hot water heater and they do general repairs. I like working with them they do a good job, so I said I need a hot water heater they put it in, I made no price comparisons. The work is high quality, the work has always been completed in one day and I've never had any problems with anything they have installed.

They are excellent. I have used them several times. I am a repeat customer of theirs. Most recently, I had a problem with our air conditioning during the 90 degree snaps we had a couple of weeks ago, I left a message sometime after six at night and then, I had a technician out at my house the next morning at 8 o’ clock. They have good service. They respond to service. They show up when they say they are going to come. They do the job at a fair price and they stand by their work. It is more expensive than some other HVAC companies, but they do get it right so it is worth paying the extra money.

We had a sudden sewer backup and were unable to resolve the issue ourselves. Since we had a similar issue the year prior, we decided we needed a professional to take a look and get the sewer unclogged. We called Carney PHC because we used them to install a new HVAC system in our home and were regular maintenance customers. Jeremy was dispatched to our home and arrived that afternoon. He snaked the entire length of the sewer line. Once he removed the tree roots blocking the line, he was able to insert the camera to view the problems. The camera showed the line had cracked and was also sunken causing the tree roots to enter and clog the line... not uncommon for a house over 50 years old. We were able to use the sewer again so we scheduled the sewer line replacement to take place after the first of the year. Everything was handled through Carney PHC.... the Call One notification, the township inspector, the company to do the trenching, etc. We are very please with the quality of work and the professional way everything was handled. Thank you, Jeremy, Bob and Sarah. It was a pleasure dealing with all of you.

I got 3 estimates, and was very happy that Carney was not more expensive than the other 2. I use Carney for the maintenance and really wanted to get the furnace from them, but was worried they would be too expensive. I actually told the man that when he came to give me an estimate. The price was fair. They are always professional at Carney, no matter who you meet. I am really liking my new furnace with the variable blower and dual stage heating. I actually think my sinuses are feeling better in the morning as soon as I got the new furnace. Hope that continues.

Everything went very well from the start. I got 4 different estimates from various companies. Carney took the time to get the estimate correct, including measurements and ideas for solutions to my HVAC needs. Install went very smooth and great crew who were professional and knowledgeable. Very happy we went with Carney. Includes 2 service turn ups for the first year. They also proactively sent to me all the tax rebate info during tax time which was really helpful and "above and beyond" in my opinion. Highly recommended, don't have any constructive or negative to say.
Description of Work: I had a complicated job due to living in a historic house where all previous owners seemed to do everything wrong, including the HVAC. Had oil heat coverted to gas and much more efficient. Also had 2 ductless units installed.

Contacted Carney to do a sewer line inspection during our home inspection. While inspecting the line, they found a cracked pipe, and we were able to use that in negotiations. After purchasing the house, I contacted Carney to replace the line. They came out early in the morning, removed the old line, put in a new line, and filled in the hole in about 9hrs. Was a very professional job. Will definitly use them again in the future if I have any sewer issues. Update: Since my experience with Carney went so well for the sewer line inspection, I contacted them about an issue that I had with my AC in August 2015. They came out, inspected the system, identified an issue with the coil in the inside unit. The tech contacted the manufacturer for me to see if it was still in warranty (unfortunately it was not), recharged my system, and let me know what i needed to do in the future. I then brought them back in March to replace the coil. The repair was done quickly and with no issues. They also setup a time to come back (2wks later) to do a follow up inspection. Great company and will definitely use them again (especially since I setup the 2x/yr routine inspection).

Our main shut off valve began to leak on Memorial Day weekend. Upon contacting Carney's we were told it would cost $110 to dispatch a tech to diagnose regardless of what they saw or did to fix the problem after. Knowing that the problem was coming from the main shut off valve, we inquired as to the pricing up front. We were told that they do not have a way to give any pricing information over the phone prior to a tech being on site. I then proposed to have a quote for simply fixing a main shut off valve to see if it was billed hourly or per job type. They again stated they needed to send someone out for $110 just to tell us how much they would charge to fix the shut off. Once the tech was on site, he confirmed that yes, the problem is the valve itself and that it needed to be replaced. They only work that ended up needing to be done was soldering less than 18" of a section with a shut off valve in the middle of it. There were a total of 6 solder joints. The entire repair could easily be done in less than an hour. The tech then stated that he did not have the right key to turn the water back on at the curb and that he was going to wait for the water company to come out to turn it on after the repair was done. The total amount he stated would be $490 for the labor and parts. This did not include the $110 previously mentioned. The tech then proceeded to explain that this was a fixed price for the job and is always the same amount. I asked why I could not be told this information when I originally requested it PRIOR to paying $110 to tell me the already known fixed amount. The tech completed the work itself in less than an hour and was waiting for another hour to have the water company turn back on the water from the curb. The tech stated that he has most of the keys to do this himself but did not happen to have this one that fit our service at the house and thus had to wait while doing nothing for the water company to come out. This resulted in being charged $490 for one hours work with maybe $20 in parts. When I asked for an itemized receipt, I was told they are not able to do that. I then asked for a supervisor to contact me and was told there wasn't any supervisors that could help me. After sending about 4-5 emails, I was told that someone would call me back later that day. The person did in fact call but they claimed basically the same information already outlined here. I requested another call back from a plumbing supervisor who called the next day and was unwilling to explain why they do not give quotes out when specifically asked to replace a 1/2' copper main shut off valve. He also was unable to explain why they do not have an itemized receipt nor the fact that the tech charged $490 for one hour of actual work at the location.

Technician Kevin Lannigan (sp.) was awesome. He came to my house that I had just purchased to give me an estimate for what I thought was a broken shower diverter. He found that the tub had a leak in it and the drywall behind the tubfitter unit that the previous owner had installed was rotted away. He gave me an estimate for the work that day. The work was scheduled almost immediately. We were told it would be three to four days and while Kevin would not be doing all of the work, he would be there at the start and the end. Because we have not yet moved into the house, we were not there everyday. This made things tricky as far as communicating with us. We live half an hour from our new house and with a five year old who needs to get to and from preschool and a one year old, my wife ended up leaving a key for the workers so that she did not have to drive back and forth daily. This is where some of the issues come in. The three or four days of work ended up turning into 10 days. Multiple people were in and out of our house and it was tough to find a point person. One day we were contacted by the tile guy. Another day, when my wife was at the house, someone other than Kevin was there. Nobody communicated to us that the job would be longer than the original three to four days. I had to continuously contact a manager at the company. While his responses were always prompt and informative, it would have been nice to have had someone contact us and inform us what was going on. Spending over $5,000, you would think that they would keep us in the loop. In the end, however, the company made up for any of the miscommunication or lack of communication. A cracked tile underneath the toilet was replaced for free and, while the company normally does not install shower rods, we were offered a new curved chrome rod to be installed free of charge to make up for the other minor issues. Overall, the work done was good, the technicians were knowledgable and friendly, and the company handled the minor issues in communication with great customer service. UPDATE: Technician Matt Chandler came to install my shower curtain rod. He was extremely professional and asked for my input every step of the way. The work done was solid as he had to drill into the new tile. Overall, I was very pleased with his work and service.
Description of Work: Removed bathtub and surrounding walls that had rotted out. Replaced walls, installed new bathtub and fixtures. Tiled walls from tub to ceiling. Replaced cracked floor tile underneath the toilet. Installed new shower curtain rod.

Carney was responsive from the first call. Jerry came out initially over the weekend and provided us with a price and work scope. I called back on Monday to move forward. Again everyone was professional. Matt came out to do the work.(he called ahead and he arrived on the early side of the time window the scheduling department provided). Matt worked hard, was professional, he was pleasant and he put up with my questions throughout. The workmanship was great. We're pleased with the outcome and the clean up he did was superb - he left his work area spotless! We will use Carney again.

They confirmed the appt., arrived on time, finished very quickly and cleaned up after themselves They went over how to operate the system, left all required paperwork, explained the tax benefits of a high efficiency system. There were two free maintenance visits. They were very polite and professional. They may have done the work too quickly, though, because after a while, the furnace wouldn't turn on- but they came over, discovered a screw that must have dropped into it and was jamming it up, and fixed it.
