Sparkle FX Inc

We recently purchased a house with an in ground pool that has not been used for about 10 years according to the sellers. I contacted Sparkle to see if they were able to open a pool in this condition as it is not a standard pool opening. Jim came out and surveyed the pool. I explained the situation and the fact that I had tried to start cleaning it out myself but the debris were so heavy that I was afraid I would break my leaf skimmer. Jim provided a very good price to perform the work and advised me of all the items he would do to ensure my pump and filter were good to go after sitting for so long. It was very easy to schedule the work. I had to arrange for some some family members to be there the first day and I scheduled to take off work the second day as I wanted to see how everything was assembled. Jim and his partner finally showed up early in the afternoon of the first day. They spent some time trying to get their pump to work to pump water from the top of the cover back into the pool. The pool cover is mostly pulled into the pool with the weight of the debris. They finally started pumping and then took a couple of scoops of the heavy debris on top. At this time they stopped all work and started to pack up. I received a phone call before they left to advise me that they could not open the pool. The water needed to be pumped out completely and refilled (note that the water is crystal clear under the cover as the previous owner did put some stabilizing chemicals in each year). Jim advised me that they won't do the pump out and refill as he was worried that the concrete pool would collapse or pop out of the ground. I asked Jim what was different from when he came out 2 weeks prior to now and he didn't have an answer. They did not charge us for the service visit (which is appropriate since nothing was achieved). I can only assume that he completely underestimated the job so it was better to walk away then take a bigger loss. I gave them a C 'Fair' rating since they didn't honor their contract but they didn't try to charge me. My only loss on this deal was arranging for a day off that I ended up canceling.
