Action Air Conditioning & Heating

I woke up on one of the coldest day yet, with No Heat, I took out the phonebook found Action Air Conditioning & Heating. A technician came out within the hour. Found that do to the old age of my furnace, it just died. The gentleman sat and explain to me my options, and about financing. After talking it over with my husband, and we did compare price with two other companies, action was not the cheapest, most was not the most expensive price. So we call Action back, and within two hours a crew came out, two very polite and friendly gentleman, and in no time we had heat. The service was great, and price was in our budget. We could not of ask for better service. They even took all the trash & clean up too. I will be telling all my family & friends about Action

I called action to come out cause I had no heat, the man arrive in no time, took his time cleaned and replace a part that my furnace needed, I also purchase a service contract. The gentleman left and I felt at ease now that I had heat and found out more that I needed to know about my furnace maintenance. I will be calling action out this summer to service my air conditioning.

Upon checking, discovered moisture in unit and indicated that the unit was "not worth fixing". I was verbally quoted $5000.00 for immediate installation of a new unit. Given the frigid weather, we accepted. OK, the old unit was replaced and the new one was working within several hours. That's the good part. The representative also indicated that the moisture from the old unit could warrant a chimney inspection, and seemed to indicate that one would be forcoming when the weather was better. I wonder though, given one of Angie's List subseqent emails advertising "Furnace replacement and chimney inspection for $1800", could I have gotten a much better deal elsewhere? I don't know. At this point, we're just grateful to have heat in the house, and assume that the promised chimney inspection shall come to pass at some future point.

To start the work was Fast, And excellent. But I'd recommend to AVOID at all costs! I called them at 9:00am to come take a look at my Furnace on a business day. They came and told me my furnace was ruined and I needed a new one. I was debating and the guy told me he'd need to know now if I wanted it installed today because they had to go pick up the part. Everyone seemed nice so I approved but the cost seemed so high.. the next day I called around to find that the Price was $1700 to $2200 higher than everyone else. I called to enact my right for a full return of the product within 3 days and I was told No by Ben (Service Manager / Owner). He didn't care, he's not changing his pricing for anyone and good luck call a lawyer. better luck next time! Liars and thieves Avoid at all costs! Refused to give me a breakdown of parts, labor and tax. Told me I signed something that waived my rights to return my equipment. Overchargin people by thousands of dollars because they are in a bad situation is horrible. And refusing to honr a return policy that they gave to me and had me sign that I undersstood it is insanity.

My Heating/Ventilation system was not running properly. At the same time, the weather was turning very cold out, so I called a few companies and went with Action Heating because they were able to schedule soonest. "Ben" (who I later found out thru a little detective work is actually the president/owner of company) was dispatched to my home to diagnose. I asked if the 'capacitor' was bad (minimal internet research on my part beforehand suggested this as a possible cause), he told me directly that the capacitor was "fine". Ben then quickly advised that I needed a whole new system costing several thousands of $$. There was significant pressure to move ahead with an invoice/contract and to do the job the next day. After he left, I called a different company for a second opinion... it turned out to be a $100 repair, that took less than 1/2 hour to diagnose and replace (you guessed it) the capacitor - $15 part. After all of these years in the HVAC business, Ben either does not know how to test a capacitor ...OR... he lied straight to my face. The capacitor was in fact "electrically dead". Take this under advisement (and several other VERY similar reviews below), and you be the judge.

Awful!!!! I feel for there trick the first time, but not the second! My recommendation is that Action Heating and Air Conditioning get NOWHERE near any homeowner's heating and cooling systems. Their dishonesty is appalling! Not only did it cost me over $1000 for the second set of service calls, I am pretty sure I was scammed when Action Heating and AC did this to my first floor unit as well!

My husband and I took on the task of gutting and restoring my mother's home in Seaside Heights NJ that was flooded by hurricane Sandy. We wanted to install heating and air since this was an opportune time to do it. I didn't know whom to call so I called Action to ask who they would recommend as I was unfamiliar with contractors in that area. Action is my go to for HVAC service, Since moving into my home in Langhorne, they have serviced the system since 2004. In 2007 our condenser coils were damaged and they replaced it within hours of the call. I found this amazing since it was in July and we were in the middle of a heat wave. In 2011 the air conditioning stopped working completely. It was 90 degrees at 8:00 in the morning so I put in my call to Action. Ben came out quickly and gave me my options. He was honest and posed questions to help us make a good decision. By 5:00 that evening , we had a whole new system. It was one of the best decisions that we have ever made. The system is efficient and we are saving money. As to the technicians, they were quick and very neat. So back to the shore house - much to my pleasure, Action could do our shore house. I was very relieved to see Ben walk through the door that day. He had a new system installed early in May before the summer started. The job was done quickly! I had the system fired up in August and am thrilled. The people at action - Ben, Melanie and the techs are great! They are expedient, honest and very nice. Don't hesitate to work with this company.

Our central air conditioner stopped working and I called Action Air after reading the reviews on Angie's List. He showed up in a timely manner and inspected the AC and determined the Freon was low due to a leak. He suggested it could be recharged but couldn't guarantee anything due to the age of the unit (14) and the leak. He was very knowledgeable and pushed to replace the AC and furnace. Action Air provides financing but I am not familiar with the Westinghouse brand so I am still shopping around. He followed up a couple of times as a salesman should.

I called a different contractor who came out and told me that the heater needed to be replaced. Then I called Action Heating and air conditioning. The technician showed up within an hour. I explained to him that the heater would only work intermittendtly. He promptly went to work and had it fixed within a half an hour. He said that he had replaced the limit (which he had on the truck). Altogether I was up and running for under 200 dollars. Great success!

The Action Heating and Cooling team arrived at my home, they were both very polite, as well as knowledgeable. My new units were installed surprisingly faster than most of my recent home improvement experiences. The team took great care of my house and when they were done there was no mess at all! Truly I joke with my family about just how clean the team left my home, and they laugh when I say that in fact, if I had not personally let these two men through the door myself, I would never have believed they had been there at all... much less had gotten all that work done, in such a short amount of time. The team seems to work very well together, They were both very professional and friendly to each other as well as myself and not only did they install my new units precisely, but I do believe they may have even left my house just a bit cleaner then before they had arrived! LOL

I FIRST HAD ANOTHER COMPANY COME OUT AND TELL ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW HEATER. I PANICKED BECAUSE IT WAS CLOSE TO 90 DEGREES OUT AND VERY HUMID. I COULDN'T AFFORD THE HEATER THEY RECCOMMENDED THAT I GET SO I TRIED CALLING ANOTHER COMPANY TO GET A SECOND OPINION, ACTION AIR CAME OUT WITHIN HALF AN HOUR OF ME CALLING AND FROM START TO FINISH WERE VERY POLITE, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS. THEY TOLD ME THAT I ONLY NEEDED TO REPLACE MY FAN CENTER AND DID NOT NEED A NEW UNIT. MY UNIT IS OLDER AND WILL PROBABLY NEED TO BE REPLACED EVENTUALLY, BUT I WILL GET ANOTHER FEW YEARS OUT OF IT. I WILL DEFINITELY CALL ACTION WHEN THAT TIME COMES.

The technician came over, looked at the A/C unit for less than 5 minutes and told us the unit is shot. He said we can purchase a new unit for $2490 plus installation price that wasn't included! He was trying to take advantage of us! I had a different service provider come out and fix the unit in less than 5 minutes! The unit just needed a new capasitor and a diagnostic check. They charged only $265 to fix the unit.

Let me just start off this report by saying you need to read no further if you want the bottom line because we do not recommend anyone use Action Heating and Air Conditioning at any time for any reason. The owner is not honest and that is why I am writing this report. Our Central Air Conditioning stopped working on a recent Sunday afternoon. My husband and I panicked because the forecast for the coming week was for a heat wave with temps reaching 100 degrees. We were also having our annual family party the following Saturday with over 40 people expected to attend. We of course went directly onto Angie?s list to see what companies were in the area and picked 3 to call. My husband and I do not have a regular air conditioning company that we have used as this was our first experience in 20 years of our system going down. We were impressed as the female answering the phones in Actions office told us that someone would be out in about an hour and a half. The service technician came in 30 minutes and we were thrilled, little did we know it was the owner Ben Lomas and the lies started right from the beginning. Soon after Ben showed up and inspected our system we were told that we needed to replace our whole HVAC system at a cost to us for $8900.00. We were not really given an option and he pushed us towards buying a Westinghouse system or a Rudd which is a good brand but not top line. Being a female I never knew Westinghouse made HVAC systems and my husband was leery too. We were given the next morning as an install appointment and although overwhelmed we were satisfied because our air would be back. My husband?s gut reaction was that something was wrong so he immediately started researching Westinghouse. There were really no reports of good or bad, it seemed people did not use them. So we called Action to question why the Westinghouse and not a Rudd that he briefly offered. Ben just kept talking circles around my husband and trying to intimidate into the higher priced equipment without given us time to research. Ben mentioned that Action was putting a sale ad in the Philadelphia Inquirer for the Rudd system the next day (how convenient). I must stress the way Ben used his high pressure sales tactics to lock us into his installation was very unethical. He was pushing to give us less then 24 hours and he would be gone and on to the next unsuspecting customer. The next morning we were both still feeling like we were being taken advantage of when the Action installers showed up. These two guys were two of the nicest installers I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Of course we looked in the paper for the sale ad that did not exist. Then when my husband called the office he was told that Ben was not in the office he was on a roof at Temple and that the guy on the phone was named Jim. We were told that there is no such person in the office by that name and it was most likely Ben lying to us. At this point we were done and told Action to please stop the installation, we were not interested. My only advice is to go with your gut and if it tells you something is wrong it is probably right.

Our central ac unit was not blowing cold air, I googled what the problem could be on the Internet. All the ac websites said the first thing to check is the capacitor. I called Action and they sent out their technician named Ray, he arrived on time. He asked me what the ac unit was doing, and I explained to Ray that the blower was blowing but the compressor was not coming on. There was air coming out the vents but it was not cold. I told Ray what I read on the Internet, they said to check the capacitor and it may need a cold start. He said he check the entire unit, after about 30 minutes he explained to me that the capacitor was in good condition and my compressor was bad. He said the cost of a new compressor would be 3/4 the cost of a new 3 ton unit. He called back to his office and gave me estimates for a new unit with the price being from 3800.00 to 6200.00. I told him I would talk it over with my wife about what unit we would purchase. The following day my mom told me about a ac repairman her friend knows. When this ac technician arrived, I didn't tell him anything about my experience with Action or the fact that I thought my compressor was bad. Within 30 min he asked me to turn on my ac and the unit came on and the air was cold. He told me I had a a bad CAPACITOR. This repairman who I now consider a family member charged me 25.00 for the capacitor and 75.00 for the house call. I was so happy I paid him 100.00 for the repair and a 30.00 tip. Action charged me 125.00 for a lie. I understand mistakes are made in life, but there is a big difference between a 100.00 mistake and a 6000.00 mistake.

From the estimate to the final product, I was extremely satisfied with my service through Action. Their mechanics are friendly, knowledgable, and very efficient. I called for an estimate, put down a payment, and my units were installed the same day! They work with your availability and do realize that you have busy lives. I would definitely recommend this company to a friend and will have them preform my yearly maintenance on my units.

Repairs were done properly. Very nice man. Well knowledged in every ascpect of his job. Did his job quickly and accuratly. Cleaned up perfectly.

old system did not send cold air upstairs and downstairs was always too cold . so we could get upstairs somewhat comfortable we had to run AC round the clock at 67...this was too costly. They explained what was being done and why system chosen would deliver what I needed . New system would cool each evenly. Installation was quick and efficient. Made sure I understood system before they left. i felt they were genuinely concerned with our comfort and didn't feel pressured to upgrade my system.

I called Action because my air conditioner refused to turn on, the tech was out in the exact time frame they quoted me on the phone. Turns out my system wasn't turning on because my kid flipped the emergency switch in the basement, I was so embarrassed. The tech was very friendly and instead of just flipping the switch and leaving, he offered to give my system a routine maintance with no extra charge. I will definitely be doing future business with Action.

My husband and I were entertaining over 50 guests. It was about 90degrees and our air went out. We called all the local companies and nobody could come until Monday. That was no way going to work. We called Action and they had 2 guys out here within an hour. The air was fixed...something like a coil and we were all back rocking and rolling within 2 hours. I am now using them for any heating or air conditioning needs I have. There will be nobody else! Thanks so much! Made our 4th of July party so much better. We even offered the guys a beer and food. They declined because they were heading to another job. On a SATURDAY NIGHT and a HOLIDAY weekend!!!

I was told by the salesman if I wanted to check out any other furnaces if the price was better they would match it. Small print says it has to be the same make and model and in the same town. The only other place that I ended up being able to compare was their sister store (Weidner)and they never called me back. SO basically I don't know if I got a good price or not. The men that worked in my house left small screws all over the floor and outside by the air conditioner. They took nails out of my beams that were already being used so they could use them. Guess they didn't bring their own. The men were very nice. The Westinghouse air conditioner was very loud but then a man from the sister store (Weidner) came and adjusted it and did a great job. Also a gouge in the wall. I was told that I would have a $300 rebate, but then later I was told I couldn't. The timeliness of them was great. Next time I will call Weidner for any repairs.

My central air unit was shooting Freon out of the evaporator coils in the basement on Friday night and had to be shut off. This was the beginning of a heat wave with temps expected to reach 95 degrees by Sunday. I called Action first thing Saturday morning and they came out within 2 hours. I knew my unit was on its last legs so I opted to have it replaced. They told me they could do the work that day which they did and even let me use a coupon for angies list customers that wasn't supposed to start until Monday. After installing the system my condensation pump was leaking and they replaced that for free.

Service man arrived as scheduled and assessed the problem (burned out compressor). Even though quite late in the day, an team arrived shortly thereafter and removed the old A/C and installed a new one.

My son called me as he did not have a credit card.I told the Tech that either he wait for me to come or do the work and leave the bill and I will either mail a check or call with the credit card number to their office.He did not want to do either.Then the owner came on the line who was very rude and unprofessional and said the Tech will not do the work and threatened that he will cancel the warranty.I have dealt with hundreds of businesses but they are the worst.I would advice Angies list members to stay away from them.

My air conditioning was not working properly and I searched through the yellow pages and called two separate contractors. The first company came out and gave me a price to replace the unit and was unable to explain what was actually wrong with the unit. He wanted to schedule a date to install a new a/c unit I then explained that I had another company coming to give me another estimate. He became irritate and disturbed with me and gave me the impression that I wasted his time. When the technician from Action Air arrived on time and very knowledgeable about my system and his products and offered several different options to solve the issue with my unit. I decided to replace my air conditioning and although his price was a little higher than the first contractor I choose Action Air due to the fact that the technician knew about his product and took the time to explain every detail about the installation and benefits. My unit has been installed for over 2 months, and I noticed that utility bills have been reduced by 20-25% lower. I would recommend Action Air to all of my friends and family. Their professionalism, their knowledge and they way the took care not to damage anything in our home during installation left me with the impression that they really care about their customers. They reminded me of the way service companies use to work. Good Old Fashion Service. Again, I would Strongly recommend them to everyone.
