Toward the end of the next day, I had not received an estimate. I called him and asked him to return my call. Nothing for 3 days. I called the owner after 4 days of hearing nothing, and he told me there would be a return call within the hour. At the end of that day, I did get a quote from the original estimator. The quote was competitive, but I did not go with them as how could I trust them to handle my furniture If I could not even get an estimate within the promised time.
Description of Work: Called to get me an estimate on a move from PA to Florida. He said he would have the estimate for me the next day.

Going with Allied Van Lines for your move? Think twice. I was overcharged by $700 without my permission, because they use a misleading contract that makes you think they can't do that. And when I caught onto them by checking myself, everyone would forward my calls to someone else and no one would listen to my concerns - let alone accept any blame. If you value customer service, know that Allied doesn't. They were able to keep passing me off like a hot potato because of the subcontractor arrangements. Local movers work under Allied as affiliated "agents," and the one that screwed me was a moving company in New Cumberland, PA, named MF Rockey (http://mfrockey.com). The guy at MF Rockey handling my move, Jim McDonald, wrote $2,799 into my contract as the maximum amount they would charge upon delivery. But what Jim didn't make clear to me is that the overall type of contract allows MF Rockey to charge the credit card they have on file however much they want. And they did exactly that - without telling me first! So, Jim estimated my move would cost $2,544. But without so much as a courtesy call, or an opportunity to request a reweigh, they charged my credit card for $3,250 before delivery. Hmm, think MF Rockey and other agents of Allied like to lure folks in with lowball estimates and then charge whatever they want later? I think we all know the answer now.
