Horrible. They sent "Dan". Apparently incompetent because when he checked the aquastat operation he left the "high" setting actually set LOWER than the "lo" setting sending my gas usage through the roof. After noticing huge spikes (about $400 worth) in my gas usage and an increase by my gas company's budget payment, I requested Berkshire send someone other than "Dan" to fix whatever "Dan" did. When talking to the clueless service manager, "Scott", he insisted that it should have saved me money that way. They sent "our best guy, Jason", who concluded, in writing, that there was nothing wrong with the boiler and that "Dan" set the settings completely wrong. Jason set the settings correctly and assured everything was functioning properly. It even says on the aquastat unit "set the hi temp setting 20 degrees higher than the lo temp setting". They performed the second service call at no charge, to their credit. After going through the gas co. with no satisfaction to get my bill lowered due to Berkshire's incompetence and filing a complaint with the PUC and waiting out their investigation, they concluded that I used the gas billed and should talk to Berkshire about getting reimbursed. Finally got to speak to "Scott" the service manager again today and they refuse to cover any costs related to their incompetent technician's actions. He said "a window must have been left open". I requested to speak to his boss, Owner Michael McDermott, and "Scott the clueless wonder" says "I don't know how to transfer you". Lesson being: do not let anyone with "UGI" printed on the side of their truck work on your gas boiler. It's like giving the keys to the henhouse over to the wolf. Onward to the Better Business Bureau and beyond.

Response from BERKSHIRE MECHANICAL
I am writing in response to the complaint made by a customer. On Feb. 4, 2013, we provided a service for him at his rental property. We cleaned and brusher the gas boiler and burners. We checked the smoke pipe and chimney base for obstructions and oiled the circulator and bearing assembly. We drained the expansion tank of water and filled the system to 12psi. We checked operation of the boiler and that completed the service. This entire service was completed under his direct supervision as he has stated in his first complaint to us. I received this complaint from out HVAC Service Manager on 5/29. In his complaint he asked that we send out a technician to reset the aquastat since he is not qualified to work on things like this. I sent a second technician out and reset the aquastat at no charge. He has since asked us to cover the additional gas usage charge that he had incurred due to the aquastat not being set correctly. We are taking the position that our technician never set the high limit tower in the first place. Dan has been with Berkshire mechanical for several years and is trained in gas and oil boilers. The customer was with Dan the entire time he was providing the service. We believe that we have resolved this problem to the best of our ability.

I have used them before and they did a good job. They did a fine job but their price was the only problem.
Description of Work: I hired them to fix the work that another company messed up in my heating & air conditioning system. They fixed the problem for me.

They installed boiler when they said at the contracted price. During installation they called and said the hot water heater needed to be replaced and they would install it at a nominal charge which I approved. Months later my tenant called to complain that the heat wasn't working. I called Berkshire and they sent a repair person out. The service man said that the boiler wasn't installed correctly and Berkshire refused to repair. I also found out that they didn't install the hot water heater they promised. Now issue has gone to court. Would not recommend. Even after they promised the Judge to repair, it took two weeks and many phone calls to finally get the boiler working properly.
