I couldn't be more pleased with the results. The craftsmanship is excellent. The results are beautiful and the work performed has given my beloved old house a wonderful face lift. Damon is very particular and seeks out the client's input to ensure options were evaluated instead of just charging ahead to get the job done in a hurry. I am a control freak but have no qualms in surrendering some of that control to Damon as he offers significant experience and approaches the work as if it were his own property. His crews have been knowledgeable, polite and easy to work with. Damon stays in touch during the project and keeps things moving along the expected timeline. I would highly recommend Renaissance Construction and expect to use the company for additional projects.
Description of Work: Damon revamped a large wrap around porch on a 100+ year old house in a historic neighborhood. The project included rehabbing the framing, electrical work, mahogany tongue and groove flooring, re-pointing brick columns, new railings, trim and a new bead board ceiling. And painting/ staining all as needed.

Damon is a very interactive and engaged contractor who does very good work. Prior to the work and during each phase of the project, he was in very regular touch to make sure that details were done right and that everything was done to our specification. He has a relatively large skill set and can do many different things, and that is useful in a restoration context where there are always intersecting issues of masonry, roof, carpentry, paint, etc. There were a couple of small miscommunications that were immediately rectified. The quality of the end work was quite good, which was especially important to us since this job covered all of the front-facing surfaces of our house in W. Philadelphia. Working with Damon takes a fair amount of energy and regular communication on the client's part; if you are willing to do that and to be a daily consultant and collaborator, you will be very happy with the results.

Thisis was a very challenging job that myself and my crew are very proud of. We had to remove and reinstall several Victorian era carved wood posts after jacking up the porch roof to correct the pitch. We installed new framing and mahogany tongue and groove porch floor. The customers railing was a beautiful, traditional Victorian five piece rail system that came from a mill on the west coast. We installed that directly to the stone columns using hidden fastener system. The front facade had several paint colors and communication was difficult but we persevered and worked together to get a beautiful finished product. We thank you for the work and the kind words. Good luck for the future.

We love the work that Damon did in our home. Everything looks beautiful and works perfectly. It was a huge job, as he had to cut a hole in our wall to install the door. We live in an old, historic home, so of course there were hurdles along the way, but it came out perfectly. We couldn't be happier with the end product, and we would certainly recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Damon installed an entirely new door in a wall where there previously wasn't one, as well as installing a new door in another area that had to be cut to size.

This job was very challenging because of the unexpected variables possible when you cut a huge hole in a foot-thick ,200 year old brick wall. We coordinated 5 men that day to cut the hole, remove 4,000 pounds of brick, install a weight bearing limestone beam over the new doorway, and the new door with deadbolt security before nightfall. The second phase required new stairs inside and out, and new trim on the inside. The door added a huge amount of light to the previously dark kitchen, and we were happy to see the delight on the client's faces. Thanks again for being great customers!

My interaction with both Renaissance Construction and Harvey's Lock and Door was excellent. They communicated the issue, the repair, the cost and the timing very clearly. They did exactly what they said they would do and when they said they would do it. All on a weekend! I would recommend them to a neighbor, especially if they had an older home.
Description of Work: Damon Moyer Renaissance Construction) answered my call on a Saturday when I wasn't expecting him to be open because the hours listed on Angie's list were M-F. We discussed the jobs (lock repair on an old door and a broken bathroom sink) and I e-mailed him pictures. He called me back the next day, Sunday. and said if I was willing he could come out that day. After seeing the two jobs in person, Damon arranged for a locksmith(Harvey's Lock and Door Service/Robbie Chin) who knew old doors to come to the house and they discussed their ideas for repairing the door and the sink. On Monday morning they both showed up and Robbie fix my door lock, retaining the old hardware, and Damon fix my leaking sink by 2pm. Excellent work for a weekend!

We had tried to get someone to do this work for the past two years. One contractor looked at it three times but never got back to us. Several others promised to check out the job but never called back. Damon returned my call promptly. He did charge for the estimate but by this time I found that encouraging. The price ran over by about 10% but with a 100 year old house and the goal of restoration to the original look I was not surprised nor upset by this. I felt the total price was reasonable considering the task. Damon seems to do all things well but I must single out his carpentry skills as most impressive. All in all my wife and I are very happy with the work and expect to enjoy our porch for many years to come. Thanks Damon. [member name removed]
Description of Work: Built on sight a new beam to Replace an approx 12 foot section of beam on a 100 year old porch. He fabricated a piece of lumber to match the joining piece between the columns and the new beam. Looks exactly like the original three that are still there. He replaced rotten wooden column bases with blue stone and straitened the columns. He resecured 5 sections of railing to the stone columns. He also repaired another side of the roof beam on the north side of the porch. He chiseled out the mortar and repointed several columns by the front steps and beneath one of the columns. Finally he painted the porch ( not including the railings ) with two coats of oil based paint. Oh and before painting he replaced the glass in seven window panes and one door.

I was looking for a while for someone who could fix our wooden turret with shingles, but this proofed to be a very hard task. Thanks to Angie's List I found Damon from Renaissance Construction. He came by, provided me with a good estimate, then we made the contract and Damon performed all the work as outlined in the contract to our full satisfaction. The job took a good time and hard work, so it was not "cheap", but at the end I got the result that I was looking for, and found that I received a lot of value for the price I was paying.
Description of Work: Our building is a Victorian form 1896 with a turret and other "complicated" stuff. Damon did a wonderful job renovating the wooden turret (shingles) and then painting it. Besides work on the turret, he replaced an old wooden stair to the first floor and re-made the trimming around the door - now all is very nice and stable and looking great.

His first response to my request for contact was very prompt (by email) and his visit to our home to look at the job was within a few days. He discussed options and seemed to be very knowledgeable. A few days later he called and asked me if we would be willing to go ahead if he presented his quotation that same day. I told him we were still waiting for another quotation and expected it in a few days so if he provided his quotation, we would probably be able to decide by the weekend. He did not seem too pleased by this. I never heard from him again.

We put off having a lot of repairs and improvements to our home because we didn't know how to go about finding a quality contractor. I joined Angie's List and initially looking for someone to replace our deck door, stumbled upon Damon and Renaissance Construction. Damon called me back immediately and met me the next day to check out the house. He was extremely knowledgeable and I was comfortable with him right away. I let him know that we intended to sell the house and that we wanted to make improvements to it before putting it on the market. He was very helpful in making suggestions as to what would increase the value of our home. He got a proposal to me right away which I felt to be fair and reasonable.Damon and his crew were great about cleaning up after performing work and most importantly handling issues as they arose. For example, he made the discovery while replacing the fascia board under the roof that the roof had severe damage. He gave me a call and sent a quick picture to me on my phone. Yikes, it was ugly and definitely a problem. He was able to install a new roof the next day. I climbed up the ladder and checked it out, he did a good job. Damon also discovered a plumbing issue while installing a ceiling fan. Again, he took photos of the problem and made the necessary repair.I found all of Damon's work to be of high quality. Anytime I had a question or wanted something done differently, he did it right away. He was quick and worked around our schedule. He took the time to explain his work and ask for my feedback. He was always responsive when I called with questions. His work was great, so I added on more work as he went along. He did a beautiful job with the hearth of our fireplace and made repairs to the bathroom tile that saved us from having to replace the floor. The crown jewel of his work was the mahogany deck. The deck was a mess before he got there, just old and faded, two sets of wooden crates placed next to eachother. Damon took the time and care to craft a deck which totally transformed the outside space. The realtor was super impressed with it and considers it a selling feature of the home. I can't say enough about Damon's work, I would certainly recommend him.
Description of Work: Installation of new doors and windows, installed track lighting, new roof, new ceiling fan, built beautiful mahogany deck, new fireplace hearth, replaced broken and loose tiles, repaired rotten fascia board on the exterior of the home, and best of all fixed a plumbing leak he discovered midway through the job.

Damon was great to work with and his creativity and problem solving ability for our 75+ year old home allowed us to complete a sale in the very difficult market of May 2012. He responded to my request for a quote on the first phone call and came by that same evening to look at the problem. He spent at least 1.5 hours discussing the possible solutions and working with us to fix the problem. A home inspection revealed a support pillar under a rear addition that was leaning and no longer supporting the rim joists. Other contractors had looked at the problem and could offer no solutions short of complete rebuilding of the room with a new foundation. Damon's experience with older homes and his broad knowledge of the specialties required for home construction allowed him to creatively offer a solution that would stabilize the corner and address all of the concerns of the home inspection report. He also looked at the termite damage under the porch and the need for additional support of some cut joists in the basement. He submitted a proposal within 48 hours and promised to complete the work prior to settlement. He began the work several days before settlement and completed it on time. He is an excellent craftsman and was able to do all of the masonry work as well as the carpentry work. The foundation pillar he constructed looked great and was accepted by the buyer. He provided us with an invoice to be given to the buyer at settlement.
Description of Work: Damon Moyer was contracted to complete repairs to our home that had been requested by the buyer after a home inspection to be done before sale of the home. He assisted us in addressing the buyers' concerns about a foundation pillar and rim joists that were not properly connected. He came up with a creative solution and executed the repairs when other contractors just scratched their heads. He also replaced support beams in the porch that were damaged by termites and installed support columns in the basement.

I contacted Damon when I needed a skilled contractor to come, with very short notice, and inspect and assess the bay window exterior of a house for sale. He and a coworker were able to come with less than eight hours notice, including stopping by his shop to get a ladder long enough to reach the roof so that they could also inspect the roof. They arrived pretty much right on schedule and proceeded to place a very long a heavy ladder in a small, congested area to get to the roof. They obviously knew precisely what to look for and were able to give me a complete picture of the state of the wood structure and what work needs to be done to properly fix the damage and restore the integrity and seal. All in all, the service they performed and their expertise gave me the exact information I needed to make an informed decision in very timely fashion.

This consultation resulted in an extensive façade restoration project that was completed two months after this review was written. We repaired and sealed extensive water damage as a result of poorly caulked windows. We restored and painted the entire wood cornice and front of the structure in two colors. Using a high reach on this very narrow street , I weaved in between power lines and trees and miraculously reached every inch of the roofline and sealed the roof, which was a major contributor to the water damage. After completing all the woodwork, I repointed the brickwork entirely using Historically correct colored lime mortar, which will preserve the structural integrity of the home. Thanks to the homeowner for the opportunity to show our skills on a high profile job!

I found Renaissance Construction searching through Angie’s list. Renaissance Construction and Damon Moyer (the owner) were also recommended to me by Carl Yocky, owner of Artistic Masonry, a contractor who had done outstanding masonry work for me and an Angies List “Contractor of the Year”. I am doing am extensive remodeling of my home and was looking for a contractor that would be able to meet both my standards for quality at a fair price. I was fortunate to find Renaissance Construction. Across this wide variety of projects I have been consistently impressed Damon’s quality of work and professionalism. His knowledge and skill as a contractor and his willingness to work closely with me (through many changes and challenges!) were key to delivering a truly excellent result. On the porch and bathroom projects in particular, Damon’s help in the design phases were critical in shaping those projects and bringing them to a successful conclusion. Damon’s breadth of knowledge across carpentry, electrical, tile and construction come into play especially when trying to solve problems that are naturally encountered when remodeling and older home. Damon worked both “on the clock” for a number of small jobs I needed done (not listed above), and on an estimate and contract basis for the larger jobs. I found Damon's prices to be fair, really much better than fair considering the fine quality of the work he produces. I still have a number of projects left to do and plan to use Renaissance for these projects as well. Overall, an outstanding experience!

The overall experience was pleasant. From the estimate to closing Damon displayed a comfortable level of professionalism that was friendly and charming, yet he took care of business. That I really appreciated.
Description of Work: Damon took out the bottom portion of my stairwell to lift it back into it's originial groves. Due to lack of proper support beams the stairwell started to break away from the wall. He repositioned the stairwell & placed a support beam to hold it in place. He then replaced the underside of the stairs that was ripped out for "surgery". It is definitely a lot sturdier & looks great! He also redirected a downspout that was allowing water to seep through the roof above my porch. Not only did he reposition the downspout, he also replaced the damaged beam & water damaged area surrounding it. I highly recommend his work as he is detail oriented & creative in making things not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. I am also scheduling him to do other work for me including replacing my porch.
