Besco & their Manager Bill are great as is their installer Kaz. But had major issue with one large circle top window from JOYCE MFG.(Ohio) It kept leaking in the rain, but Besco kept coming back many times to try & fix & then also bringing a factory rep. Well Besco did everything right. It was Joyce Mfg that made it wrong, Finally after I threaten Joyce's VP with legal action, they replaced the window & now everything is OK. Only bought the Joyce brand because of their better efficiency rating(u-factor) for double pane.

Besco originally installed all of our windows in March 2010 (~$8,000.00). Bill, the salesperson provided us with a high quality set of windows that met all the requirements for the Federal rebate program going on in 2010. In fact, Bill assembled all the paperwork required for submission. The two installers were terrific. They completed the job in 2-days with outstanding quality!! We have been enjoying our energy efficient windows now for 6 years. It's so nice to have easy to open (and clean) windows. They make the house look so much nicer too. Recently, we noticed some marks that appeared to be contained in-between the glass layers of our large (~4.5' x 4.5') window that's part of the front bay window. I found my original paperwork from Besco and realized that the windows have a life-time warranty. So, I called Bill (again) at Besco. I explained what was going on and he suggested the window is defective. He immediately ordered a new window. The same two installers arrived to replace that large window. ALL at no charge to me!! I cannot possibly ask for better service and will definitely use and recommend Besco in the future.

1) Worker Anthony sawed-out the flooring to access piping and discarded it. "It is easier and cleaner this way since there is a plastered ceiling below the floor" he told me. As a complete job, Mr. Cimino, the salesman, certainly expected there was rot across most of the entire floor. In fact only one sheet of plywood was used and a little stick lumber. Extra charge $425! 2) The Moen shower requires leveling supports and squaring to the room. This is detailed in the bid. Extra Charge $320! 3) After two months, we chose a Linoleum style from his book, no additional money mentioned. Extra Charge $200! 4) After cutting the tiled wall with a saws-all to install the 34" door, a few tile fell off. The tile had to be cut to width anyway. Same at air duct and border with shower. Instead of a machine re-grout, he "scratched" the seams and re-grouted the 3-half-walls of tile. It was in the bid. Extra Charge $171! 5) Anthony took-off 9-work days to plow and sand for his customers, leaving us hanging. During one incident, Jim called and said that Anthony will be "sick" for two days before a major storm. No regard for the dust and filth in our home! 6) Joe had looked squarely at my wife and promised "a two week job and you will have your shower on the second evening". We had no shower for 8-days and finally went to a motel. The BESCO response was "Get that receipt to us!" We should have gone for all eight days and charged them. We had misplaced loyalty because Bill, the window man, who did $40,000 worth of work here since 2008, (when we could work), had always been on time and held to his bids. 7) The web site claims "30 employees, NO SUBS. In fact, a sub "painter" did a terrible job, which was sanded-off and he came back to paint it again! The job is barely adequate. 8) Jim brought a cheap light fixture and Med cabinet and I protested that we paid extra for the right ones. I had a diabetic attack and laid down. Upon rising, he had installed the particle board med cabinet and cheap light. After complaining, they came back and corrected the cabinet. We purchased the light fixture!. 8) After two weeks of calls and e-mails demanding a final bill, BESCO finally billed us an extra $1,084, beyond the shower chair, med cabinet and Water Wise toilet upcharges which we had signed. After all that they put us through, they prey upon a disabled couple by inventing "extra" charges on a firm bid job. There are no provisions on the contract for any contingencies. $13.563 is a lot of money for what was bid .The job took over two-months, not the promised "two weeks" to complete. My wife became ill because she had to wait 8-days for the motel shower. Their treatment of a senior, disabled, loyal customers is outrageous. We live our lives without any debt. To have our final payment "applied" to our account is criminal! They have "A" because of their window crew. This bathroom work, under different people, is sickening. We demand an immediate credit for the $1,084 which was pulled from the air. They must live-up to their firm bids! I had also requested an apology but the credit will have to suffice. Update as of 7/28/2015: we have never resolved the additional money this company is trying to get me to pay, which I still maintain is unjustified. Now we are running into a quality issue: the floor squeaks, and it will always squeak. The reason for this is because they didn?t screw down the oak flooring over the subfloor prior to installing the linoleum. This means when you stand in front of the sink, the floor squeaks. Even though this should be covered under the warranty, the company is refusing to come fix the work. After living with our $13,850 "remodeled bathroom, the 4" x 4" x five foot enamel cover threshold has enamel chipping off and one can see and feel round hammer marks on the entrance end which I spoke to Bill about over a month ago. He said he could find out what enamel product was available. Now I will go to the manufacturer. There is no written warranty with BESCO so do not be suprised at massive up-charges and NO WARRANTY. Prepare for two months of nonsense. Buyer beware!
Description of Work: Remove bathtub and toilet from 65-year old 10' X 10' bathroom, install larger door, save and re-grout existing tile beyond walk-in shower, install new light and large aluminum and mirrored med cabinet, remove several layers of flooring, install flooring over new floor, all plumbing, electrical, (no new sink), prep and paint all woodwork, ceiling and walls. This is a firm and competitive bid, 29-points signed and countersigned and faxed. W/ signed upcharges and credits, exactly $13,563.

Response from Besco Construction
We are very disappointed reading [member name removed]’s letter. Besco Corporation has been in business for fifty eight years. No company remains in business that long by mistreating their customers. I would like to take a minute to clarify some of the points [member name removed] made in his complaint: 1) The flooring was removed under the shower area due to rotting decks and joists. This was unable to be performed from below the deck because the ceiling in the basement was plastered along with the fact that we would have to climbing over the homeowner’s abundance of storage. The change order, an increase of $425.00, is for the labor and material needed for repairs. [member name removed] was made aware prior to replacing the decks and joists that this would be billed on a Time and Material basis. 2) The installation of the Moen shower unit was included in our proposal but wall preparation – squaring the existing walls – was not, as explained to [member name removed]prior to the start of the project. The change order, an increase of $320.00, is for labor and material. 3) At the onset of the project, [member name removed] had chosen a stock material to be installed as included in our proposal. He subsequently decided to change the flooring he had selected. He was shown other selections and chose another flooring. When we contacted our vendor to place the order, there was a material upcharge for the new selection. [member name removed] was issued a change order for the material upcharge cost only and agreed to pay the difference. 4) The existing tile on the walls was from the original construction of the bathroom. These tiles were glued directly to the walls. The glue was old and dried and the mere touching of the tiles caused them and others to fall from the walls. To re-adhere the tiles that fell from adjacent walls (not included in our proposal) as a chain reaction to retrofitting the larger door and frame resulted in more labor. [member name removed] was made aware of the issue via email and verbally. A change order, an increase of $171.00, is for the labor only needed to reattach his tiles not directly related to the retrofit. 5) The work area was cleaned of dust and debris at the end of each working day as is our standard. Prior to the onset of construction, [member name removed] was made aware that there may be possible days needed for snow removal as yes, we also contracted for plowing. He was okay with this. 6) We dispute guarantee of a shower install on the 2nd evening of construction as the scope of work entailed with this project makes that statement impossible. [member name removed], being the educated man that he is, knows better than that. 7) We are a general contracting company. Nowhere on our website does it say that we employ 30 employees or that we do not subcontract our work. Certain trades are subcontracted on an as need basis. Perhaps [member name removed] was looking at a different website. 8) [member name removed] supplied us with a picture of the medicine cabinet and light fixture he desired. We provided the closest match from our suppliers. The medicine cabinet and light fixture was accepted by [member name removed] and they were installed. [member name removed] then sent specifications on what he wanted which incurred a higher cost not included in our proposal. The new medicine cabinet and fixture was ordered and installed 2 days later with [member name removed] covering the material cost of the light fixture only for which he was credited. 9) [member name removed] never contracted us regarding a final bill . Upon final completion of the project, [member name removed] was told we would send him his final bill on his satisfaction. The final bill included all of the necessary change orders as agreed on by [member name removed]. When you work on a 50+ year old house, unforeseen issues arise when you open walls and floors. [member name removed] himself stated that we would run into issues as he had in the past working on the same bathroom. No credit is owed to [member name removed] but payment is owed to Besco Corporation. If you refer to our customer comments on Angie’s List, you will find that we treat ALL of our customers with respect and fairness. We are very sorry that [member name removed] is unhappy. He had been explained everything from the proposal presentation through to the completion of the project with all lines of communication open. His concerns were not voiced until he ultimately had to pay for the work completed.

Besco installed a Guida front door and did a fabulous job. The installers arrived on time, explained what they were going to do and went to work. Several months after the door was installed, the paint on the door and side lights started to develop vey fine cracks. I called Besco and spoke to Bill. Never once was I put off and all calls were returned promptly. Besco came out each and every time to look at the door and they stood by their installation and service. On one appointment Besco arranged for the door manufacturer and paint supply company to come out and look at the paint. After consulting with the paint manufacturer, they agreed there was an issue with the paint and how the door was painted. The door manufacturer (Guida) replaced the door and both side lights. Each and every time, Besco was there for the customer. I am now in contact with them for an estimate for windows.

I love this company! Such a super nice bunch of guys, including the owner. I received quotes for replacement windows from at least two other companies, and BESCO provided a top-quality product that looks and performs great and was professionally installed. The quote was very fair and their windows (Dove brand) met all of my very detailed energy-savings & aesthetic requirements. The installation took one day. One window frame ended up leaking, though, but it was fixed the very next day. To clarify, the window itself didn't leak, but the house itself had a hidden leak for many years prior that wasn't discovered until the old windows were removed. I inspected the raw sill and I felt it had too much mold on it to stay in place, so I requested the installer to buy & install replacement wood, which he promptly did. However, in the next rainstorm it leaked (slightly; not a waterfall, but I saw stains through the wall paint), and when I told the company, the installer remembered the job and pinpointed the issue before he even returned to fix it. He conveniently came in the evening and fixed it probably within one hour, and it's been perfectly dry every since. This company is one of the best and most accommodating companies around. It's family owned and they stand behind their work. I need to point out another instance in fall 2012 where this company rose to the occasion. I had separately bought a sliding glass door from a different well-known local company in Dec 2008, which promptly went out of business. Unfortunately, the door has a leak somewhere causing copious amounts of water to pool onto my kitchen floor during very strong and windy rainstorms, but I've never had it fixed (for money reasons, but also because I tried to file a claim, which was rejected). So, when Superstorm Sandy was going to hit us in late October 2012, I called BESCO for help in tarping the door, and the owner himself brought an installer out after it had started raining and tarped the door for me at no cost (in the driving rain!!!). They even refused the bottles of wine I offered for them (which went to good use during the storm). They are SUCH NICE AND HONEST PEOPLE. They really care about their customers, and I have finally asked them to officially schedule a time to come over and help identify why and where the sliding door is leaking, knowing full well that we won't know what it will cost or how extensive the internal damage is (I can virtually guarantee that there is serious structural damage). I trust that they will not overcharge me for fixing a door they never installed. I truly think these guys are great; their replacement window installation is professional and top quality at a fair price, and their windows were eligible for the 2010 federal tax rebate and were well worth it. The windows have drastically cut down the heat transfer and they are beautiful. They even tilt in for easy cleaning and I paid a little extra for full-length screens so I can pull the top window down. I have a 10 year warranty on labor and lifetime factory warranty on materials. They took away all debris; left nothing on curbside.

Estimate was provided at the time and date arranged. Estimator was prompt and explained exactly what would be done and all about the windows they would use. After placing the order we were given an estimated date of installation based on estimated maufacturing of windows for our order. Windows are made to order to fit existing window openings. Installation was a bit earlier than estimated. Installers arrived a little early, after phoning ahead. Went to work and efficiently removed the old windows and installed the new windows. Drop cloths were used to catch demolition debri and after installation was completed the workers cleaned up everything. We were also having a problem with our patio sliding door. The company took out the door and replaced the bottom rollers so the door worked like new. This was done with no extra charge. Great company to deal with and we would recommend them highly. I've had failures of two windows since installation. Besco has been quick to replace the problem windows. Very responsible company.

I was in the market for replacing my windows (10) with enregy efficient ones. Bill came out to my property, expained about the windows that would be used and gave me an estimate. The estimate was competitive and Bill's presentation was very professional. I decided to go with a firm that was able to do my windows, garage door, cement work and roof for an amount that was equal to the combined estimates given for each separate job. Doing so simplified the process for me as I only now had to deal with one company. I would not hestitate to use Besco in the future.

VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE. RESPONDED TO PHONE CALLS PROMPTLY, TOOK THE TIME TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS AND DISCUSS OPTIONS, PROVIDED PLENTY OF POSITIVE REFERENCES, EVERYONE I DEALT WITH WAS VERY COURTEOUS, EVERYTHING OCCURRED REASONABLY ON TIME AND ON SCHEDULE, AND THE CREW DID AN EXCELLENT JOB WITH THE INSTALLATION. AFTER THE INSTALLATION WAS COMPLETE, I NOTICED THAT THE BATHROOM WINDOW DID NOT HAVE LOW-E GLASS; I CALLED BILL, HE TOOK THE TIME TO UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM, ORDERED NEW SASHES, AND ARRANGED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER THEY ARRIVED, AT NO COST TO ME. PRICE WAS VERY REASONABLE, AND THE QUALITY OF THE WINDOWS AND INSTALLATION IS EXCELLENT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
