It wasn?t too bad. When they were not actually able to fix the problem for me, they told me how I could do it. The $79 I paid was for them coming out to fix the issue. The price was misleading because there was additional charge for a couple of small things. But they knew what they were doing. They were on time. I will probably not use them again because of what they charge.

After the purchase yesterday, I got an email specifically to me using my name. It welcomed me & said how much they were looking forward to serving me. It said I should call and give them a priority of work that needed to be done and schedule an appointment. When I called today to make that appointment i was told by the person who answered the phone that they do not service my area. I am livid. I spent hours looking for the deal that would serve me best, I confirmed the purchase would suit me needs on the phone with Eric. And Eric confirmed the deal that said it covered my area. So I purchased the 2 deals. Now more than 24 hours later I am searching again. I was hoping to make an appointment with Mr. Sparky for this Friday because I am flying in from Kentucky and I wanted to get things started. This is a lying, undependable, untrustworthy company. I strongly encourage anyone who is seeking a good electrician or plumber to look past this company and find one that stands by their advertisements. It appears that they pick and choose what jobs they want to do and then toss the other jobs out with some lame excuse.
Description of Work: Mr Sparky posted special deals on angieslist.com I called angieslist with some questions about purchasing 2 different deals from the same company. Eric answered the question that I was able to purchase the 2 deals because they are different deals. The deals specified what areas and counties around me they provided service. Eric looked them up in his computer to confirm that they serviced my zip code

The service was excellent. The repairman found a couple of faulty GFI outlets that were causing the problems. He explained everything to me, detailed the pricing, and then replaced the faulty outlets. The service was quick and reasonably priced. I will absolutely use them again if I need electrical service.

He did a nice job, but I thought it was rather expensive. I paid out five-hundred-and-some dollars, plus the $79 for the $200 deal. I thought that was a lot for three outlets. He did a good job. The price was just outrageous.

The service was fine. There was a $13 additional charge on top of the $79 Big Deal. I have no dislikes. I am quite pleased with the service. There were no issues. They had scheduled me originally for Wednesday and then, they had to reschedule for Thursday due to a conflict which was not a problem for me because I am retired.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for Mister Sparky Electric. They added a circuit breaker and straightened out the polarity on two outlets for me.

The guy came out and he didn't know anything about the type of electrical service that I have. In an email they said that they worked on this type of system, but the guy said they thought it would be just a light bulb. The guy was really nice about it.

Thank you for your review and again let me apologize for the inconvenience. When we setup the call, you stated that you had 2 low voltage circuits that were not working. Low voltage systems are not uncommon in homes in regards to under cabinet lighting which we certainly do work on. However, as we explained at the appointment, the system in your home is a very rare low voltage system powering the entire home. Normal system utilize fuses or breakers whereas this system used transformers. Due to our inexperience with this type of system we did not feel it was advantageous for either of us to move forward. We do apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you can find an electrician to complete the needed work. Thank you again for your interest in our business.

The electrician that came out was good and found our problem. Unfortunately, our bill was $290 for about an hour's worth of work due to Mr. Sparky's tiered pricing (as opposed to hourly pricing). Keep in mind, too, that that price only included finding our problem -- repairing the problem would have been additional cost. So I can't complain about the electrician's expertise in terms of diagnosing our electrical problem. I'm just unsatisfied with the way this company handles pricing.

The deal you purchased (on 11/22/13) was an Angie's List big deal of $49 for $249 of service. This deal basically provided you with a voucher for $249 worth of any type of service. The particular task that you requested was to install a ceiling fan in your home. Our electrician arrived at the appointment (on 5/30/14) to do his initial exam. As is our practice, we present all of our pricing upfront, before any work has begun. The electrician on site quoted a price that was over $249 meaning that you would be responsible to pay the balance due after the Angie's List voucher. I am sorry if there was any confusion involved here. We try to be as upfront with our customers as possible regarding the price of all of our work. Since we did not charge you anything for the appointment, we cannot refund you any money. The deal you purchased was through Angie's List and they would be able to process your refund request. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you.

That turned out okay. There was a minor error with the work they did. Just one electrician came out and he was very nice. We noticed singed wires on a basement outlet, we had him come out to identify that for us. We also had him run a new dedicated line. We had to pay about $450 out of pocket in addition to the Big Deal; I knew there was going to be an additional charge for the additional work we requested.

Charged me another $150 over the 79/200 for the diagnosis; which I was told would be waived. Electrician determined, yes I do need a new motor installed. Quoted me a price to replace of another $850.00, the next day when they arrived on site I was told it would cost a $1000.00 more than the original estimate. Ultimately, I paid almost $1000.00 to get a motor in hand that I could have purchased in less time for about $350.00 and I still had to find an electrician to install it as I was not about to pay the extortion.

Thank you for voicing your concerns. While we can appreciate your frustrations and apologize that you had to endure an electrical problem, there are many items in your review that need to be addressed. When you called requesting service for your commercial restaurant, Mister Sparky responded the same day and had one of our electricians out to the location that afternoon. The service requested was for a restaurant exhaust fan that was no longer working. There are several reasons why we did not and could not bring “the part you needed.” 1. As professional electricians, it is our job to identify the source of the problem. It would be a disservice to our customers to assume that a part failed just because it failed. As a simple example, think of a light that is no longer working. We could certainly replace the light bulb, charge and be on the way, but when the light still doesn’t work, who is to blame? Perhaps the original light bulb never actually failed but it was something farther down the electrical line. The same applies in this situation. Yes, we could just replace a fan motor and hope that it was the problem, but there is no guarantee. 2. The second reason that we could not bring the part you needed is because we had no idea what type of system we were dealing with since we had yet to be on site. There are many, many types, sizes, manufactures, and so on of fan motors and obviously we cannot stock them all. Our practice is to identify the specific part needed on site, by a professional electrician. We do have a $53 service call fee for the electrician to arrive on site and do the initial investigation. In a message to you through the AL message center, it was stated that this would be waived with the repair. I apologize that this was not clearly communicated to the electrician on site, and the cost has been refunded to you. Upon arrival, our electrician determined that an in-depth circuit diagnosis would be needed to be performed to properly identify the cause of failure. This price was presented upfront to you, as is our policy, for your approval. After receiving your approval, our electrician began the work. The cost of this particular circuit diagnosis was indeed more than $200, so the balance of the cost was chargeable to you. A circuit diagnosis is different than a service call fee which is charged to have the professional electrician I do not know of any time when we stated to you that the circuit diagnosis would be waived? After completing the circuit diagnosis, the fan motor was identified as the failed component and a price was quoted to you for the installation of a new motor to be done the next day. The following day, our safety adviser went to the site to perform an inspection of the task needed to be done. As you know, the exhaust fan is situated 3-stories up in such a way that you must lean out over the roof edge to work on the motor. This was deemed unsafe without one of the following protocols: 1. We could utilize a roof tie-off for fall protection while working on the motor. This would require accessing the attic of the building. When investigating this option, we were refused access by the tenant citing that there was “no attic access” in the apartment. 2. The only remaining option was to rent a lift to access the fan from the wall side. Due to lack of safe access to the roof, our only option left to present to you was the renting of a lift which would have indeed incurred additional cost. After meeting with our safety adviser, you communicated that you understood our reasoning. You also opted to purchase the motor for the fan which we had already ordered and you would have it installed by another company. Additionally, we refunded you the purchase price of the Angie’s List deal ($79) and the additional charges so that there was no cost incurred by you except for the purchase of the motor for $425. If there is anything else that we need to explain or address, we would welcome the opportunity.

Ben did a wonderful job! He cleaned up everything after he was finished, including the boxes from the items I had purchased. I had purchased this deal thinking I would be getting just the ceiling light/fan installed but then he told me I had $ left over so I ran out and bought another light that needed to be done. He installed that as well and it only cost me an additional $42.

I was not happy with them. The deal said it was a whole home electrical inspection and they didn’t diagnose the problems. They charged me to diagnose the problems and just walked around my house. They sent one guy out to do the job. They forgot to cancel one appointment and I got double scheduled.

The deal you purchased was for a “$39 whole-house electrical inspection.” As stated in the details of deal as well as in my correspondence with you via the Angie’s List message center, the inspection included the following: - Checking for proper placement of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors - Testing all alarms - Checking all electrical panels, main breakers, and circuit breakers - Testing outlets for proper operation and safety - Inspect water heater disconnect, air conditioner disconnect, and furnace disconnect to make sure they can be safely disconnected during an emergency - Checking GFCI and arc-fault breakers - Evaluating electrical service cable and grounding system - Includes a post-inspection report identifying areas of safety concern This inspection was carried out by our electrician. I understand that there was a problem with a light in your hallway not working properly. While our electricians are more than capable of doing electrical troubleshooting, it is not included in this particular inspection deal. For this reason, the electrician on site did present a price to do a circuit diagnosis. All of our pricing is always present before the work is done. This process is foundational to our business and is something that we do in effort to maintain clear communication. The price of the circuit diagnosis should have been presented to you upfront, before the work was done, providing you with the option to accept or decline. This is our process and if it was not followed, please let me know and we will address this immediately. According to the notes, the electrician did do the circuit diagnosis and after some troubleshooting, identified the light fixture to be the problem. I was able to go back and review our correspondence via the Angie’s List message center. According to the notes, you had called in and scheduled an appointment for several days in the future. However, our schedule did have availability for same day service, which we provided to you. I apologize if we failed to cancel the initial (later) appointment and I hope it did not cause you any inconvenience. Again, thank you for your feedback and I hope that these answers provide some clarity to your concerns. Thank you for your business and we would certainly welcome more dialogue on this call if you desire.

The work was done satisfactorily and the technician was polite. It was just too expensive and you don't simply pay for the specific services.
Description of Work: I had two electrical "issues" which I needed to have taken care of plus two light fixtures I was planning to have installed. The "$199 was deducted from the overall bill, but I didn't realize how expensive it would be. I ended up returning the light fixtures to the store where I'd purchased them--installation per fixture exceeded the price of the fixtures.

First, thank you for purchasing the deal through Angie's List. We appreciate your interest in using our services. The job was run on March 8, 2013 by one of our electricians. He was responding to several problems you were experiencing including a bath fan that would trip a gfi receptacle and under cabinet lights that were not working. Both of these issues required circuit diagnosis to determine the cause of the problem in addition to the actual repairs themselves. Electrical systems can be complicated and it is not always a straightforward problem with a clear solution. Sometimes it does take the skill of a professional electrician to locate and provide a proper solution. This troubleshooting is something that we charge for and did contribute to a higher invoice. Regardless of the work that was done, all of our pricing is presented upfront, before any of the work is begun. We do this in an effort to avoid any unknowns at the end of the job and to make sure that the electrician and homeowner are on the same page. As a homeowner, you always have the option to decline the work. If our electrician did not present price to you before doing the work, please let us know and we will address this immediately. According to the notes of the call, you did opt to replace the bath fan with a new one and to replace a malfunctioning transformer to fix the cabinet lighting. We do strive to clearly communicate in all areas of our service from the initial appointment through the end of the bill. I have reviewed his notes and found that he recommended replacing your panel due to it being manufactured by Federal Pacific. This is something that we would highly recommend as the FPE panels are well known for their serious safety concerns.
