They were very punctual and the young man took his time to explain what he could and could not do with my current equiptment. He also took the time to answer all questions that I had and explain the technical terms. He also explained they don't do a lot of install for 2 prong adapters, which 2 of my 5 were, and he did not have any on his truck. He had a co-worker drop them off within minutes so that he could complete the job.

Had coupon which I thought was good for an electrical service, but really was only for finding the problem not fixing the problem. So make sure if you get coupon verify what you are getting before you make purchase. I will never order coupon from them again.

Thank you for your review and feedback. The Big Deal coupon purchased by this customer was for a discounted service call fee of $29 instead of our normal service call fee of $73. Our service call fee allows our highly trained, professional electrician arrive at your home, investigate the problem, and present options on any repairs needed. This exact deal was worded "$29 for a Professional Electrical Service Call!" and so we understand and apologize that this may have been confusing. Our customers that call our scheduling department are made aware of our service call fee before the electrician comes to the home. When our electrician arrived at this customer's home, we investigated the situation and determined that an arc fault breaker was tripping when the treadmill was in use. We determined that the amp draw on the circuit was well below the limit for the 15 amp breaker and proceeded to test. Additional load testing on the circuit could not reproduce the results first experienced by the customer. We offered to change the breaker, but the customer decided to just continue use since it was working. Again, we apologize for the lack of clarify in the Big Deal offered.

He was prompt and thorough....had some concrete suggestions on items that needed to be fixed or changed. The prices he quoted for those items, however, sounded pretty high, and I told him that my regular contractor (Bell Valley Contractors, another Angie's List member) could do the same work, he admitted that my contractor could probably do it for quite a bit less. I appreciated Ben's honesty in admitting that.

Thank you for your review. Our electrician performed an electrical inspection of this customer's property and found various concerns. There was evidence of water entering the main electrical panel which is a very dangerous situation. We found signs of corrosion in the main panel, adding to our concern. The home was also missing smoke detectors in multiple required areas. Using these findings, we recommended replacing the main panel, installing the required smoke detectors and several other safety measures to protect the home and family. The customer decided against our recommendations and we completed the call. The purpose of membership we offered is to provide this type of inspection and other benefits on an annual basis to keep the home safe and functioning efficiently. We regret this client's dissatisfaction, but we were trying to present a solution to safety concerns found during the inspection.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was good. The information of the service was not very well defined. He told me what it was, they would come out and inspect the whole electrical service in the house prior to buying or selling and that's not what I had wanted. But they had accommodated what I was looking for. That's not what I read in the deal that I bought. They did what I wanted. He was eager to do the right thing. I would not use them again not because it wasn't good but because it's a big company and their overhead is just too much.
Description of Work: I have electric heating and wanted Mister Sparky Electric to check the electrical to the heat exchangers in the baseboards to see if they're still working at all. I got information that I needed to replace several of the baseboards heaters.

We had a whole house inspection before we bought it. Of course after we moved in the whole living room line blew. Come to find out we still had some of the old wiring that was supposed to be removed and we still had some copper lines that were still hot. He did a really good job and we kept him here longer than he needed to be. He fixed everything. My husband made the arrangements quickly after purchase and they came right out. We did spend more than the big deal. There were a lot of problems going on, we paid $500 on the first inspection and they said it cleared. Which it was not livable, we could have had a fire at anytime. He was very professional and my husband got along with him. He explained every little thing that was going on. He was very nice. We new that something was going on, because the house was built in 1870. After we get reimbursed some of our money, we are going to have him do some more work.
Description of Work: Mister Sparky Electric we had blown fuses and they figured out which ones were shorted out and he replaced all of the outlets that were shorted out.

I called Mister Sparky. I was asked to delineate the work I wanted done. I said that I wanted someone to fix a wall fan in a kitchen, fix a light on a range that wouldn't go out, and replace a fluorescent light bulb. The person at Mister Sparky told me that they couldn't repair an appliance, so I was aware that that particular item wouldn't be fixed. The first two items, i.e. the fan and the range, are in an apartment in my home. The fluorescent light is in my basement. My plan was to have the repairman tell me if he could provide the fluorescent bulb (the company's ad implies that their trucks routinely have many such basic items on board) or if I would have to do so. I was told I would have to provide it, and in fact that it would be wise to replace both bulbs in the unit. We then went to the kitchen where the fan was located. He told me that he could not repair it, that since it was in the wall (which I had told the person with whom I made the appointment) it was a "construction job". I then had to go to a store to buy the fluorescent bulbs, leaving the repairman alone in my house. (Had he been repairing the wall fan, the tenant in the apartment would have been with him.) In the short time that I was gone, he took it upon himself to walk through my house and open my electrical circuit box, without my permission or request. He tried to sell me a major electrical make-over when I returned with the bulbs. I might add that in the past I have actually replaced those fluorescent bulbs by myself, but as I'm getting older I hesitate to climb on step ladders. However, you can bet that if I have to replace them again, I'll be struggling to do it myself. My bill? $152.00!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: I provided this information by telephone in detail. However, to repeat: all he did was to replace two fluorescent light bulbs. I provided the light bulbs.

Thank you for your feedback on your recent Mister Sparky appointment. I’m sorry that you are dissatisfied with the appointment and I thank you for pointing out your frustrations so that we can address them. When our electrician came to the home, we were planning on working on a wall fan (above a range) and replacing light bulbs in a fixture. The client/tenant wanted to clean the wall fan (fully functional) and could not take it apart. Upon investigating the fan, it was determined that parts of the fan were stripped and could not be removed without die tools. After explaining this to the client, we also explained that to gain access to the fan in any other way would require tearing the wall apart since the fan was built directly into the wall. This was an old model fan that is not produced anymore as opposed to new range fans which are mounted directly above the range. We apologize for not being able to work on the fan, but we only determined the type of fan and situation upon arrival and evaluation. In regards to the light, Mister Sparky does stock thousands of parts on our trucks. However, due to the extremely varied styles, sizes, and types of fluorescent bulbs, we typically ask the homeowner to supply any replacement bulb. Upon determining the light bulbs needed, we explained the situation to the customer and she decided to pick up the lights herself, after which we were happy to install them for her. The reason we suggested replacing both bulbs at once is based on our experience with fluorescent fixtures. Typically, when one bulb stops working, the other one is close behind so it is best to replace both at once. This best practice, in combination with the homeowner’s hesitancy to climb ladders created our suggestion to purchase two bulbs. While the homeowner was gone, our electrician did perform an electrical safety inspection to the home as added value while we were on the call. However, the homeowner is correct in that we did not ask permission to do so. We sincerely apologize for this oversight and understand the frustration it created. This is part of the reason why feedback is so important to us as a company so that we can continue to refine and better our practices. Thank you once again for your business. We regret any misunderstanding that may have happened and would welcome more discussion regarding the call.

It was just too expensive. Let's put it this way, they gave me an estimate for something that was more than five times where I got another estimate from. Yes it took us seven time, it's ridiculous. The estimate they gave me was over $5000 and I got from somebody else for like $800 or $900. That was too much I think and they charged me a trip charge so that pretty much wiped out the deal, it was $500, they were terrible. The quality was fine. I guess that's the reason why I hadn't submitted a review because it was so ridiculous that they gave me, it was just absurd. And that what I was thinking about the other part, if I would just have gotten estimates instead of getting their deal, I've could have gotten much cheaper. The thing I wasn't happy with the deal they offered me for $99, they had some deal where you get 10% off on the service that they did and and on the future while I have other work to be done and I can get 10% off on that, like I said their estimate was so ridiculously high that I'm not going to use them. So now I paid $99 and all they did was come back and changed the batteries on my smoke detectors.

Everything went well. They were punctual and professional. They were kind enough to look at some problems I had in the attic regarding some wiring and duct work in relation to my A/C since they also do HVAC as well. They made some recommendations and gave me an estimate on some extensive work I may do in the future.

The gentlemen were very professional. They had all the necessary tools with them, (no continual trips out to their van for supplies or tools). They wore shoe protectors, even though they were working in an unfinished basement. They cleaned up every speck of trash they generated. The very best part of their visit was they informed me that the breaker that controlled my well pump was the wrong type and could be a hazard, so they changed it to the proper type, NO CHARGE and refused to accept a tip. there was a very soft sell of subscription service, no problem. I would call these guys for future work.
Description of Work: Mr. Sparky's crew of electricians (or techs) arrived on time and installed a whole house surge protector. The model installed would have cost me $190.00 so installation cost only $10.00. Where do you get an electrician to do anything for $10.? The work entailed making the connection in the breaker box.

The serviceman arrived on time. He reviewed the specific items included in the electrical inspection.I was surprised that he completed the inspection as quickly as he did. I thought it would take more time. When he finished the inspection, he reviewed the items with me: the condition of my electrical system;the proper grounding and how it was in compliance with codes. He then made recommendations for a maintenance contract and for other items which could make the system even safer/better. There was no pressure to contract for any further services but written prices and plan information was given. The serviceman gave me a card to access a review site from his own company and requested that I submit a review. The serviceman was personable and professional. He was knowledgeable and able to impart info in easily understandable terms.

Finished by telling me we had a code violation & safety hazard by not having the house grounded. I pointed out to him in a home inspection report done just 4 months prior when we bought the house that showed the house did meet code & was, in fact, grounded & where it was located. He went & rechecked & found it as it was partially buried. I then asked for an estimate to install two ceiling fans in our ranch home with completely free/open attic & one outside spot light. He gave me a written estimate of over $3,000! Unbelievable! Another technician advised it should be less than &1,000.

Thank you for your review, we do appreciate hearing feedback from our customers. Let me apologize for the confusion with the grounding rod. In this particular situation, we did not notice that the grounding rod was buried and so we wanted to bring that to the homeowner's attention. Code requires that the grounding rod be visible above ground (which it was buried) and we did not find visible evidence of this. It is not our practice to dig up a customer's yard without necessary reason, but in this case, after the homeowner provided more details we were able to locate the grounding rod. Again, I apologize for the confusion. It was our intent to bring a safety concern to the homeowner’s attention. In regards to the pricing, our technician provided multiple options to the customer for multiple repairs. According to our paper work, 3 options were given for $392, $1793, and $3708 based on the customer’s needs and desires. The $3708 option included the following: -Install 2 paddle fans -Install wiring and switches for fans in bedrooms -Install spot light -Install 6 smoke detectors -Install Steady Power whole-house surge protector -Rewire outlet in living room. Installing the 2 fans involved much more than just attaching them to the ceiling. New circuits would have had to been pulled from the panel box to feed the fan. The various other line items included in the option made up the complete option price. Additionally, all of the installed equipment and labor performed would have come with 2 year guaranteed warranty. We hope this helps explain our position on the situation and would welcome continued discussion on the matter.

The phone call to set up an appointment was very professional. She was very careful to ask all the details of my problem even asking the name of the landlord to contact for permission to perform the work. She was very friendly when I informed her that I would be responsible for the bill and not the landlord, since it was my ceiling fan. I received a friendly reminder/confirmation call before the appointment. The technician, Ben, arrived within the time space specified and used booties to protect my rugs. He inspected my fan and wrote me an estimate which I agreed to and initialed. When he finished the job he informed me he did not need to do what he thought he had to and adjusted my estimate to a lower cost...which thrilled me :-) My landlord asked him for business cards to hand out to friends and neighbors, which were given freely. I am VERY satisfied with Mister Sparky and thank you Ben for all your helpfulness and expertise.
Description of Work: I had a ceiling fan that became loosened from the housing. The light was blinking and I was concerned for electrical consequences. Mister Sparky was highly recommended by Angie, which was the reason I called them to repair my fan.

Excellent. Ty Brown was professional, insisted on putting on booties to keep the house free of dirt (even though my whole house is being remodeled bit by bit and is quite a mess). He explained everything clearly to me. He worked efficiently and quickly. And explained options to me prior to doing the work. I will use him/them again in the future, especially since it turns out I have 4 rooms still with knob and tube wiring that I definitely am going to upgrade. He has given me lots of pratical advice about this upgrade project.

A contractor overloaded one of our circuits which caused a circuit breaker to trip and break. Apparently after several attempts to overload the same circuit the breaker actually stopped working. Mr. Sparky people were quick, knowledgable and did the job right. I thought the price was a little high but since I know virtually nothing about electricity, I have to pay for someone who does know. I would certainly not hesitate to use them again. I just wish I was able to fix things like that myself. Recommended.

Description of Work: Mister Sparky was called to repair an outlet that was "not working" and look at the possibility of installing a ceiling fan. The gentleman that came out (I think Ben, but not sure; can't read his handwriting and don't remember his name) showed us the "Straight Forward Pricing Sheet". This way we would know exactly what we were paying for. We decided against the installation of the fan right away as there was a bedroom over the area we wanted the fan. It would have been much more involved that we figured. Now, I must say we haven't had an electrician do any work for a very long time and just were not familiar with current pricing. Anyway, he showed us the pricing sheet and said to diagnose the problem of the outlet would be a level four and would cost $243. (the charge for service/travel was extra, not included in this price.We had a coupon that reduced the normaly $73 service fee to $ 29 as we were a first time customer.) I asked if it was that price and level if it only took him 5 minutes to find the problem. He said it would be that same price. I grumbled inside but we needed the outlet to work so we said to go ahead. He came back to us in about 5 minutes and had found AND corrected the problem. He did say he had called his boss to see if he could reduce the fee and was told he could reduce it to a level 2 fee of $ 121. You will have to decide for yourself if you would pay those fees. I thought they were very high and would probably try another electrician.

In today's world, travel has become increasingly expensive, and it is no different for a business with trucks on the road. Our service call fees help us keep our prices lower. In your specific situation, $29 provided you with travel time, a professional electrician at your door with a fully stocked truck, and a guaranteed, on-time appointment. In regards to the diagnosis, electricity can be a tricky thing. Depending on where you start checking, it could take you 5 minutes, 50 minutes, or more to discover what is causing the problem. In this case, Ben started at the right spot and was able to identify the problem quickly. However, he didn't just assume the GFCI was the problem, but checked other possibilities as well to be certain of the cause. Very good, Ty was great, very considerate as I had someone here doing a home appraisal at the same time and he was very patient waiting for me to talk to him before he left.
Description of Work: Installed whole house surge protector, inspected electrical panel and tighened up some lose wires. Checked everything over very well.

I purchased a whole home electrical inspection that was offered for $49.00 (it was a "Big Deal" offer). The vendor, Mr. Sparky Electric, was friendly and professional from start to finish. The woman who helped to schedule my appointment (I regret that I did not get her name) should teach a class on customer service. She was friendly and genuinely made me believe she wanted to help me...which, unfortunately, has become a rarity today. I scheduled my service between 11:00 and 2:00, and the technician showed up around 11:15. This was probably just the luck of the draw, but it made me so happy for once to have the appointment start at the early end of the range rather than the late end. It has been my experience in the past that "between 11:00 and 2:00" really means "around 2:00, and possibly even later", so again, this relatively small thing made me very happy. The electrician, Ben, was very professional and friendly. He talked me through everything he was going to do, answered all the questions I had, and made some suggestions for work that should be done without pressuring me in any way. While I cannot speak to the skill or quality of their actual electrical work, I do know that when I decide to have the necessary work done, Mr. Sparky has earned my business. Having spent many years in the customer service industry I value that aspect of professional interaction very highly, and Mr. Sparky met and exceeded my expectations. Also, I suppose it is important to mention that I think $49.00 was a great price for this service!
