The grand daddy of insults. The worst in-home experience of my life. I have been on a tear this week writing up a recent train wreck with Kitchen Savers and a past run in with Renewal By Anderson Windows, but I would be remiss in my duties to the Angies List comminity if I did not share this experience. My wife and were at the Lancaster HD in the kitchen section. A nice young lady with a clipboard did the ?would you like us to come over your house and give you an estimate blah blah blah?? She looked desperate to get someone?s name on the list so I went against my first instinct and said ok. An appointment was set up and off we go. A beautiful young lady came over (imagine a taller Heather Locklear) and for the next 3 hours trudged our way through the design process. No hints were given to the price of things. We need a complete kitchen refresh but the estimate was for cabinet refacing and a countertop. We went with Cherry solid wood doors. Nothing over the top. Well the price wheels spun and spun and the numbers came in. $35,000. That?s right $35,000 to reface the kitchen cabinets and provide a LAMINATE countertop. No backsplash, no soffit/floor/appliances/sink/nada. $35,000 to reface cabinets and provide a laminate counter top. We were pretty much forced to watch/listen to a testimonial movie on her laptop. In every case it was a much older couple talking about what a nice young man the installer was. ?That Bob was sooooo nice?. This is the same tactics Kitchen Savers was using. Shame on both of them for exploiting older and uneducated customers. Shame shame shame!!! I wonder how these folks would like it if someone did this to their parents! I don?t know how some people are able to go to sleep at night. Anyway, that was that. 0% chance of sale. Thank you very much, don?t let the door hit you in the back on the way out. 3 hours of my life I?ll never get back. Right about the time my wife and I were recovering from this the company did a follow up call to see how they did on the estimate. I guess Heather Locklear forgot to tell them to take us off the Christmas Card list. My wife who is very reserved, let them have it. 35 grand. Are you nuts. To which the reply was ?well how much did you think it would cost??. Click?. Ten minutes later they called back. The regional manager Bob was in the Lancaster store and wanted to come right over right now and give us ?the price of a lifetime?. Is there no bottom for these vultures? Well a few weeks later we were back in the Lancaster store. I went back to the kitchen section and found one of the regular kitchen people. Not one of the predators. I let her know what happened and what kind of estimate we were given. Her jaw hung open. She immediately got the assistant manager (John Pulich) over. He was totally mortified when we told him of our experience. He informed us that for 35K he could do a new floor/cabinets/appliances/granite counter top. He was so sorry for a HD representative having wasted 3 hours of our time that he wrote us a ?use anywhere? discount card. He seemed genuinely upset, as he should be, that people representing HD are out there doing this. I just wrote up a review on Kitchen Savers today and felt compelled to share the HD story and also one about Renewal by Anderson replacement windows. These jackals are out there looking for weak/lonely/trusting/uninformed/elderly people to stick it to. They try to sweet talk them and gain their confidence then slam them with ungodly prices. If they posted these prices at the stores and kiosk that they use to solicit they would never get anyone to bite. They use the in-house high pressure and charm game. They hit you hard between the eyes and hope they can get you to sign before you realize what happened. Read my other reviews. Good to the good and bad the bad. There are a lot of good people out there willing to do honest work for honest money. None of these 3 fall into that category.
