I called to set an appointment last night. While on the phone I saw the $79 coupon for 200 dollars worth of work. They called in the morning and gave me an estimate over the phone. I told them about the coupon and the guy thought it was a $75 off coupon not a coupon for $200 worth of work for $79. I spoke with Roland over at Benjamin Franklin in Owings Mills. He told me they don't honor the Angie's list coupon. So now it's 9:30 am and I'm out $80 (which i will likely get refunded) and have no plumber to come fix my service. Now Roland COULD HAVE made an exception and honored the coupon but he chose not to. To me that's poor service and I would not recommend using the Owings Mills Office at all. Also the York office COULD HAVE chosen to go outside of their service area and do the work in order for me to use the coupon and get the work done. So obviously this company is not willing to go above and beyond for it's customers. Not to mention Roland's over the phone quote if $360 is WAY higher than most quotes I received. Angies list says I won't get my refund for 10 days. This is truly frustrating. I need this money to pay for my plumbing services. Bad all around!! ******** Update... i changed this from an F to a C. 1. Angie's list refunded me quickly. 2. Nate from the PA Office if Benjamin Plumbing was very nice and responsive. 3. My main issue was with Roland and the MD office. which apparently doesn't take part in Angies list deals. When I called to make the appointment they should have been able to tell that rather then me spending un necessary money. SO my complaint is with their over all scheduling department for the most part.

Thank you for providing this review and for taking the time to update it after the fact. I do apologize for confusion that happened on this call and I hope that I can shed some light on the scenario. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing is a franchise organization and each location is independently owned and operated. Basically that means that while we operate on a national level, each location can market and advertise independently in their territory. This is true when it comes to Angie’s List Big Deal as our franchise (Lancaster, PA) was offering this deal, but other franchises (Owings Mills, MD) were not. In this particular case, you called our scheduling department and upon providing your zip code, the call taker directed the business to a different location (MD) that was not offering the big deal like we were (PA). Our office (PA) got involved in the matter Monday, the day after you called and scheduled, and confusion ensued. Since you were located outside of our territory, we were not able to provide service to you. For that, I apologize and am sorry for the inconvenience that it caused. I worked with Angie’s List to expedite the refund of your Big Deal purchase in order to best accommodate you in this situation. We have also worked with Angie’s List to restructure our big deal offering to prevent this from happening again. Again, I apologize for the frustration that you endured and hope that you were able to find a professional plumber to service your home. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do to be of service.

Everything went great, the guy was super informative and friendly. When he flushed the water heater he let me know that the anodizing rod and elements needed to be replaced as well as various other fixes that could be done. He gave me multiple options but I decided not to have any of the work done at that time. Pretty much I could refresh my 9 year old water heater for $600-650 or I could buy a new one and install it myself.

We purchased the "Big Deal" where they replace your outdoor faucet. We were fortunate they offered this deal since our faucet broke about 2 weeks ago. We purchased the deal on Friday evening and Tuesday morning they messaged us to set up the time. This was Memorial Day weekend so we were not expecting any contact prior to Tuesday. They were able to schedule us for the next day between 8 and 9 am. The tech (Marc) arrived around 8:30 and started checking out the job. He asked questions about this specific job and several questions about the plumbing system in the house. He did attempt to upwell a few things but was not pushy at all about them. He got to work on the faucet and the only reason it took 2 hours was because he had to put some new cement in and wait for it to set. When the faucet was done Marc asked if he could flush my water heater to check it out. He noted that it was in pretty good shape (I appreciated his honesty and not an unnecessary sales pitch) and he did mention the service plan offered. After that we just signed the papers and he was on his way. I gave them a "B" for their price because as Marc was mentioning other jobs he could do while he was there, he asked if I wanted a shutoff valve on the line he was working on. I asked how much it would cost and he stated an extra $147. I had a quote from another plumber to do the shut off valve and the new faucet for under $200 while it would have cost me $247 from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and that is with saving $270 on their big deal.

I had a frost free faucet which wouldn't shut off, so I purchased the frost free faucet replacement deal from Angie's List. After the plumber looked at the faucet location, he let me know that the wall would have to be ripped open to get access to the stem. No work could be performed at the time. Opening the wall would have been quite expensive, so I wanted a second opinion and had another plumber come out to look at the faucet. He pulled the stem out and found that a small rubber washer had deteriorated and was missing. Within a few minutes, he had replaced the washer and the faucet was back to perfect working condition. I left this in a message to the provider on Angie's list and was pleasantly surprised to receive a call back from the service manager himself. He apologized and said that their plumber should have considered the possibility that the faucet could simply be repaired rather than replaced and that he would refund the Angie's List purchase price. I was VERY impressed by their professionalism and courtesy. I have no doubt that their staff is well trained, and it's easy to overlook something like this. Even though they weren't able to solve my problem, the way they handled the situation says a lot about them and I would definitely use them in the future.

We initially signed up for the $49 Big Deal for Ben Franklin to come in and inspect our plumbing system and to flush our hot water heater. Our hot water heater was about 13 years old and the pressure was down to almost nothing so we knew we probably needed a new heater, but we were hoping a flushing would work. When Chris and Jimmy first came in they sat down with me and told me what they planned on doing, got feedback from me on what I thought the condition of our plumbing was and answered any and all questions I had. In fact, they encouraged me to ask questions. They answered all of my questions thoroughly and professionally and I felt very comfortable with them and their expertise. I also had questions regarding our toilets and their functionality and potential leaks. Once they inspected and evaluated, I knew exactly what we needed to bring our plumbing up to par, what it entailed and how much it was going to cost. They were extremely easy to work with, just the right amount of friendliness and professionalism. They actually were able to do the work right then. The next day (today) I got up and the furnace wouldn't work. I thought it was the pilot light but I wasn't sure so I called Chris on his cell phone. I knew he had the day off but he had told me that if I had any problems or questions to not hesitate to call. So I called him about 7:30 a.m. and left a VM. I explained the problem and he called me right back. I work in the morning and Chris knew that so he told me not to worry, go ahead to work, and the technician would be out about 1:15, which is about what time I got home. He arrived about 5 minutes after I got home - very prompt! He had the problem fixed in about five minutes which was a huge relief, at no cost to us. The bottom line is their customer service is excellent, Chris and Jimmy (our technicians) were great and I would not hesitate to hire them again. I feel like I have found a great plumber, HVAC and heating company that I will use for all my needs.

I had made many calls to plumbing companies to replace a 14 year old water heater which stopped working (leaking in my basement) Saturday. I called Benjamin Franklin which sent someone to my home immediately. I could not be more pleased with their service. Marc, who was the plumber, was friendly, professional and paid attention to detail. He was able to secure a new water heater close to my residence and had it replaced within a few hours. Since we have been without water for 2 days I could not tell you having important it was to have it replaced immediately. Marc was even pleasant when he had to carry buckets of water upstairs in order to drain the old water. I would use Benjamin Franklin for any future plumbing needs and would recommend them to other people in my community who would need plumbing services.

The plumber was very helpful and knowledgeable. I knew previously to appointment that I might need a new water heater. The plumber inspected my water heater and gave me a fair estimate ( with a discount) on a replacement. I decided to have the plumber install the new water heater. Everything that I need fixed or cleared was completed to my satisfaction. Superior service.

The sump pump installation was completed correctly, as it should have been done the first time. At the plumber's recommendation (which I interpreted as scare tactic over selling) I agreed to have a new sediment filter installed. When he finished re-connecting the water line I was horrified at the result. He used plastic pipe and compression ring connectors. The end result is that in approximately 2 linear feet of piping I have 16 of these connections that are held in place with a compression ring. To me this looks like nothing more than multiple leaks waiting to happen. Perhaps if the plumber had concentrated more on the job at hand, and not trying to oversell me on every POSSIBLE problem he could find, the quality of the work would have been better. I agreed to have the faucet installed, though it cost me $532. The same or very similar Moen faucet sells at Loews for under $200, which means I paid over $300 for a faucet installation. And this includes my "discount" for having a support agreement. The plumber also pointed out a leak in the feed lines to the sink where the faucet was replaced. I approved the repair of the leak, but upon reading my support contract discovered that cost was covered. I had to argue with the plumber before he agreed that the cost was covered and removed it from the invoice. While I approved the work that was done by Benjamin Franklin plumbing, I feel victimized by their pricing, and stunned by the lack of quality and follow-up in their work. I will not use them again.
Description of Work: 1 - Completed the installation that was not done correctly on the first visit; a fact that I needed to point out to the owner after I read the installation guide. 2 - Installed a sediment filter on the water line - recommended by the plumber 3 - Flushed and inspected the water heater; a task that should have been done as part of the "free" plumbing system inspection, but was not.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. I am sorry for your dissatisfaction, and I would like to address some of the issues your mentioned. As we have already discussed in person, we did miss a step in the installation of your battery backup sump pump. The controller was indeed supposed to be mounted to the wall and we failed to do so. I apologize again for this oversight and appreciate you holding us accountable. We were happy to return to your home, at no cost to you, and remedy our mistake. Just as a reminder, the work we did installing the sump pump and everywhere else is warrantied by us for 1 full year. In regards to the sediment filter that you had installed, we still feel that you made a wise decision. Keeping the water in your home clean is an important health concern for you and your family and we were happy to provide a solution to this issue. The technician who installed the sediment filter used PEX fittings to complete the installation. This is a widely known industry standard and is recognized as one of the most fail-safe plumbing solutions on the market. We feel confident that this method of connection will provide you with peace of mind and leak free operation for years to come. Our plumbers are highly trained to take care of the client and home as a whole, and not provide band-aide solutions. Sometimes, recognizing multiple red flags while doing the work can be interpreted as finding problems, but in reality, we are trying to solve the big problem instead of a “quick fix.” This can be illustrated by the technician pointing out the leak in the supply lines to the new faucet. We feel that there is value in providing a complete installation at the time of service instead of multiple calls for closely related items. While it is true that you can get lower priced faucets and plumbing equipment at local hardware stores, please remember that it does not include installation, warranty, or the professional expertise that comes with our plumbers. Lastly, in regards to our follow up and response to these issues, please explain where you feel that we have fallen short. If you feel that we have left any work uncompleted or any issue unresolved please let us know.

Mark arrived on time and I explained about a small leak under the sink. When he first checked he couldn't see anything wet and said it could be the garbage disposal so he would take that apart. As he started he realized the disposal had not been installed properly when I replaced it a year ago. There were three places it should be attached but ions had been missed. He was able to get that third place connected and that solved the problem. I paid $79 for $100 worth of plumbing work and then paid another $24 (I think) so the total cost was $124. There has not been any more leaking under the sink.

The pricing was ridiculous. Also, the plumber informed me that I would need a new garbage disposal b/c I had not saved all of the necessary parts from my old one...fair enough. He then said he had one in the truck for $400 (not including labor) that was top of the line, etc. He said that pricing was the same as Lowes. Went to Lowes as I wasn't feeling he was the highest of character. Same exact disposal: $209, not on sale, full price. Returned with disposal and told him that his services were no longer needed. While I was gone he had reconnected the new facet...for $400. The facet connection is great, but far, far, FAR from worth the costs...I will be doing my own plumbing from now on.

Thank you for sharing your experience with this review. I am sorry that we were not able to meet your expectations for premier customer service. I wanted to take a few moments to address some of your concerns. Our pricing is founded on a flat rate pricing guide. All of our plumbers use this to show the homeowner exactly how much a job will cost before we ever begin any work. This allows the customer to decide if any particular option is something with which they want to move forward. Our garbage disposal prices include the labor to install them. I’m sorry if this was not clearly expressed or understood. Any price that our plumber quoted you would have included the disposal as well as the installation. All of our work and material is also guaranteed for one full year. This means that if something goes wrong with a product we installed or work we did, we will come back to your home to fix it for free. This is something we do to show that we stand behind our work for each customer. It is likely that you were able to find a garbage disposal at a hardware store for less than our price because it would not have included labor or warranty on the work. In regards to the character of our plumbing technician, if there is something specific that you felt was dishonest about him or our process, we would welcome more dialogue on this issue. We work very hard to train our staff to give premier customer service. Thank you again for your review. I’m sorry that you were dissatisfied with our service, and we would welcome more conversation about this job if you desire.

Very pleasant guy came to my house about an hour before scheduled (cancelled a meeting to get home in time), so technically, I suppose he was near-punctual. | |First thing was to attempt to up-sell me, then when I didn't go for a contract or the company's prices to replace "all of the guts" of a couple of bathroom fixtures for a near-astronomical price (at least 200+% over subsequent quotes from local plumbers), I only had two repairs made for my Angie's List purchase and an additional cost of close to $100 ("well, we've gotta make some money on this"); one repair failed within about two days of the service. Some parts from the "repairs" were left on my bathroom rug. | |First and last time I'll consider this company, which is evidently a subsidiary of a very large national energy company. UGH.

Thank you for posting your review. We appreciate you letting us know your experience. I’m sorry that you felt that our service was not professional and I would like to address some of the issues that you conveyed. First, let me thank you for recognizing our plumbing technician. We work very hard to train and challenge our staff and are proud of the individuals who work for our team. We desire to care for our customers in our service. We do indeed offer maintenance contracts to our customers because they provide a lot of value (including discounts, repair coverage, 24/7 service, etc.) We simply intend to provide options to homeowners for ways to save money at the time of service and in the future should any more plumbing issues need to be addressed. Our pricing structure is based on a pre-defined flat rate guide. Each price is given upfront without any hidden fees or additional cost so that a homeowner can know exactly how much the bill will be. I trust that this was done in your case, but if it was not please let me know. If an option or a price is not the direction that a homeowner wants to go, there is no need to move forward with the repair. It is always your right to refuse service. Each job is assessed at the time of service so that our plumber and the homeowner can both be on the same page and know exactly what it will take to get the job done. This is in effort to prevent any type of confusion about what is included or what is required. All of our work also comes with a 1 year warranty. This simply means that if something fails that we did or installed, we will come back to your home and fix it for free. This is done as a symbol of how we stand behind our work and the quality of the parts we use. If something that we did failed within two days of service, we would certainly be happy to come and examine the situation. This is our guarantee and we stand behind it. In regards to the parts on the rug, our plumbers make every effort to leave the workspace as clean if not cleaner than when they found it. If our plumber left something behind, I apologize as that is not our general practice. I regret that you were dissatisfied with our service. We would welcome more dialogue on this call if you choose. Thank you for your business.

Looks great. They also had to install an access panel inside my garage, so we could get to my water pipe to the outside faucet if I ever needed too. The workmanship on the job that was done, was excellent. I thought the price was a little high. The serviceman was very nice to us, while he did the work.

It cost the cost of the Angies "bargain price" plus $111 service call. Other work we considered having was way too expensive. This was NOT a bargain at all, I will not do this again.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your call on November 8, 2013. We appreciate the reviews of our customers as they help us understand how we are performing and what we can do better. I understand that you are frustrated about the pricing from the call after purchasing a Big Deal for $200 of plumbing service for $99. It is our goal that we are straightforward and upfront with all of our customers and our technicians strive to maintain this reputation. In doing so, our plumbers are trained to present the price of the service call fee and any repairs prior to even beginning the job. Do you feel that you were not presented with this price before the technician began the work? If this is the case, please let us know and we will address it immediately. Again thank you for your review. Please let us know if you have any other concerns that you would like addressed. Thank you.

They could not install the described deal so I opted for a regular faucet replacement since mine was leaking. The replacement cost me the same as the deal even though the standard faucet cost less than the frost free one. He said that it wasn't the "deal" and couldn't work with that price. I don't understand why I would pay the same for a regular faucet as the frost free since it cost less for the part. the tech was more interested in trying to sell me a maintenance plan than trying to come up with a compromise to the "big deal" offered on AL

Thank you for your recent business with us and for sharing your experience. We appreciate hearing your feedback. I understand that you expressed some frustration regarding the Big Deal that you purchased. I reviewed the notes and spoke directly with the plumber who was on site and wanted to provide you with a response. The Angie’s List Deal that you purchased was for a frost free faucet replacement for $100 (does not include wall access). After the plumber investigated the leaking faucet, he determined that it would take opening the wall from both sides to make the appropriate replacement. The alternative was to fix the leaking faucet with a standard replacement, which you opted to do. Replacing a faucet is normally $147, but I understand that the plumber was able to honor the original price of the deal and perform the replacement for $100. I regret that we could not complete the frost free faucet replacement for the $100 price, but I’m sure that the standard faucet will perform well for you. If you have any more questions or concerns, we would welcome more dialogue on this topic. NOTE: The price reflected in this review includes additional work that was done outside of the Angie’s List Big Deal.
